@GoldenDevilGamer with all honesty, Toradora had a much-much better looking fight scene or animation in general. and that's a romcom, not an action series. well, it's their most popular work after all (by MAL means)

this just really shows how fucked their schedule is and the staff arrangement. it's really sad considering the fact that OPM is such a huge battle action show, especially after that high plank that s1 had set
Agreed, it's not like as if J.C Staff is untalented. They just have a piss-poor schedule. From their recent works, Taboo Tattoo was actually pretty heavy on sakuga and it looked quite good (crappy color palette though).

Regardless though, this is J.C Staff's best production in years. Post-2015 J.C Staff has been the studio at its worst.

Saying something about the animation at this point is kind of useless, so I just will say that I liked King. I was already spoiled that he was a normal dude, but his otaku side was amusing to see. Looking forward to Fubuki's role in this.

RoboHachi and Shoumetsu Toshi don't have better or more sakuga that this episode. They wouldn't even fit the criteria of being average either. Stuff like Mix, Furuba, and Fairy gone have better production values, and out of the three I've mentioned, only Fairy gone has better production values than this episode. I was asking for 5 better looking productions, and the ones I'd list of the top of my head is Kimetsu no Yaiba and Fairy gone. As for upcoming, BSD S3 and SnK S3 P2 are bound to look better, and maybe even Sarazanmai. But I'm not trying to prove a point of OPM S2 looking good. I just want to prove that it's an average production.

Also, Piano no Mori is technically from last season, and I can't say it's anything better because its low points are worse than this episode, and its high points aren't quite sakuga heavy

I'm glad at least you know average doesn't in any sense mean good
Average production values doesn't result in an average anime either. A series can have poor visuals and still be a good anime; just drastically inferior to its source material depending on how every other aspect was handled.

Never did I call this a good production anyways. As someone who'd been watch almost every anime in a season for the last couple of years, I'd label this episode above average, because personally, I found a bit more good animation cuts than bad cuts in this episode. Honestly, I had a bigger issue with the sound design.

This is the same type of shit I said when DxD Hero was looking bad with the new art and people called me a hater and how it's supposedly good (even though the art for that season was vastly different compared to 1-3), while the art here does slightly resemble season 1 but it just looks weird and bad in comparison. Honestly, if Bones or Madhouse are able to do the third season if we hopefully get to that point, then I'm all for it instead of JC doing it again.

Kinda think that people's worry for OPM began when anime sequels under different studios come out being worse than the first under the original studio, and I feel this all started with DxD Hero of last year. And apparently DxD fans said the new season was being really loved in JP, even though the BD sales were considered poor for the series. Let's just hope OPM can get through this for now and then we can have the quality back again

Yeah, I would rather have a studio with experience in action anime do it, than someone like JC Staff. Although, the animation is not the only problem. Actually, the animation wasn't even that bad, honestly. But the art is kinda jarring, Genos looks like he straight up came out of DeviantArt or something. And somehow, they managed to make Saitama look all weird too. The saturation and the "shading" on the faces look weird, the metallic part of Genos' body looks cheap... It's funny because people were worried about animation but that came out not bad but the art is suffering.

I hope the third season gets picked up by another studio or it just goes back to Madhouse with the staff that worked on the first season. But there are a lot of good fights in these parts of the story that deserves good animation and art.

Anyone else finds scene transitions in this episode really frustrating and rushed? Feeling like certain frames were just removed from the animation? Things like Genos jumping high in the air and spinning, only to show the scene where he lands on the ground split second after.
I enjoy fast-paced action in any media, but this episode doesn't even give time to appreciate those moment, because it immediately shows something differents. It felt really weird especially when the action was jumping from King in his apartment to the fight outside.

Honestly, the animation isn't the main reason why this Season will most likely be disappointing. It's the direction. It's too fast paced and the story is basically copy and paste of the manga. I was completely bored on the 2nd part of the episode because of that (the events of the show were just there, and didn't make an impact on me). Basically the soundtrack and the story itself will hold the show from being bad

Bet most of these crybabies never even read the webcomic. The art is fine. Not as good as season 1 but it's fine. Complaints about pacing are ridiculous this early. Maybe it'll be rushed but you sure as hell can't tell from a single episode.

The pacing of the ep on a whole was the same as last year, but the pacing on just the fighting was ass
What fighting? The throwaway Genos fight that was half off screen? Who cares, it's just set up

The saturation and shading imo is terrible compared to the bright but natural look on the art from S1. Everyone just looks kinda off really, especially Saitama. Genos just looks weird and out of place with his CGI armor, and some parts of the fights just felt cheap in a sense. I'm happy though that Fubuki is at least still good looking and heavily thicc as well, but I'm expecting a drop in quality by the 3rd or 4th episode given how the rumors and statements said that JC Staff had only recently finished past the second episode.

I really don't know how well the fights are gonna be this time, but I'm just hoping it's enough to not call this season full on trash before it goes to a different studio hopefully with the same staff as season 1

This is pretty average, nothing on the story it's still great but directing could be better and more impactful.

But oh god, you could just use cel shading alone, why the need of this
I N T E N S E B O O T L E G U F O T A B L E S H A D I N G ?

dude
DUDE,
you're literally shadowing the fact you can't animate by trying to look like ufotable anime, and it's failing badly, some shots look good but that's it, shots, other looks crappy and because you have these ''high budget'' shots you think everything can be just still images with mouths moving that no one is going to care, it needs motion, impact and movement.
It looks just weird and by wasting time making deep shading for everyshot you are sacrificing the time to make a better lineart or animation.

The bar was set too fucking high in the first season, I've been spoiled!!
I'm not sure what to expect, the animation and choreography and sometimes even the character art definitely is a step or two or three down. I'm perhaps ignorantly optimistic in thinking a studio wouldn't take on such a great project unless they knew they could back it up right?....right?

The animation isn't as trashy as people make it out to be. It's just somewhat average.

With that said, the directing is plain bad. There's no ebb and flow to the pacing at all. It feels like I'm speeding through the manga as fast as I can, and ended up unable to feel anything. Every shot transition is a hard cut to the next scene without any connection to the previous one, combine that with how fast they cut between shots and it's giving me a headache.

Of course, they had to go with the one style of sound design that I absolutely despise, yet is becoming more and more popular these days, where the sound effect is turned up to eleven so that it's 20 times louder than everything else. Every clash and explosion is a full on ear-rape that makes me wanna mute it for the rest of eternity.

Okay this a pretty hefty downgrade. Fans really wanted a second season and looks like they are happy with even this shit, but should we really settle down for something like this?

And those of you who haven't read the manga, please check it out. It's great and has just the kind of fun that was present in the first season. This cheap-looking adaptation is not going to do its source material justice.
After S1 I've started reading manga and that's where I get the story, plot and comedy parts of OPM. Anime added awsome graphics, animation voice acting and music to pretty acurate (for my taste) source material. You can just get the feeling that everything fits perfectly fine leaving you with positive vibe after each episode you wanna come back to with smile on your face.

Now that S2 is stripped from visual and audio values of it's predecessor I guess there's nothing to get from it for manga readers (at least not for me).

Am 100% sure that I wouldn't be drawn to OPM if what we see and hear in S2 was standard for the anime since EP1. If not for Madhouse (Bones) I would just drop it immediately and never look back.

Saitama deserves better

I thought Genos looked good for a new character.

Animation poor, King was annoying, no humour and to rub salt in the open wound where OPM used to be it has turned into a stupid western comic book persecution complex POC.

Now i see this should NEVER have been made, season 1 was amazing, time to leave it alone and move onto something else.

My only real complaints:

- King's long face D: is just... horrible, a disservice to murata's character design.
- Genos CGI boy (the arms are KIND OF ok but the chest looks really bad)
- The skin "blush" o however you want to call it (where it has darker tones mixed) is horrible.

Animation was ...OK

I went with low expectations and left feeling overall good after the episode

The animation wasn't bad whatsoever. OPM s1 had literally the best animation of all time. This animation isn't close to OPM s1, but it still isn't bad at all. I personally prefer the shading, but I can see why people would dislike that. The comedy was great as always and the scenes with King were amazing.
