While Kei clearly has bad intentions with deleting the messages, IMO the deletion will have a positive effect for Miyako. I dunno about you guys, but someone going psycho like that would just make me want to get out. Fast. Now she can still start from scratch and pretend nothing happened.

The phone messages part was brilliant. So twisted, and beautifully executed. It was unsettling to watch, but that was probably the point.

srsly? i'm surprised it wasn't chihiro who would act like miyako. i srsly laughed cause i found her being so.. obsessive, too ridiculous.. it's just one day, and the sudden part of her parents starting to drift away from another was too sudden to absorb and understand her situation.

but now i rly don't know who hiro will pick, kei or miyako, because kei just did a b*tch move. if i was kei, i'd actually "read the txts", than she'd know something is wrong with her and wouldn't try to hurt her.

with renji, disappointed.. hope hiro wont pick either of them, and hope renji gets along well with chihiro once again.

I absolutely loved it.

Oh my God. Everything just went wrong, in a way you can totally relate to, it's nothing incredibly out of this world. The ED sequence had me holding back my tears, really.

Where do I start? I see what pains Renji. The girl in the book is her. With every word she types, she gets farther from him, somewhere he can't reach. He talks about happy endings, but she talks about breaking down. And then she blurts out that he should kiss her, "This is where you kiss me", like it was some sort of story, like it should happen just to happen. It's just wrong. And the animation showing Renji's state of mind really touched me, it was so painful to watch.

And Miyako? There was nothing psycho about her. With every new message, she just broke down more and more. I think we all had moments like this, where you don't know if the person is listening, if the person cares, if you did something wrong, and then you apologize, take the whole blame just because you don't want to lose the person. The only difference is that she voiced all of her thoughts and feelings, in a desperate way to get him back. She didn't just wait for him, she kept reaching out her hand to catch him. And then the ED, the so perfect ED sequence showed exactly how Miyako felt inside, and it was powerful.

I definitely love this. And I wish Kei will cry and cry and just be miserable because the thing she did at the end was despicable.

Agreed. Damn, what Kei did was truly despicable! It hurts to see both Renji and Miya Miya like this.. D;

Since I found Miyako so annoying in every single scene she's been in and since she was so calculatingly hostile to Kei, I can't feel any sympathy for her even as she goes crazy (and so was just repulsed instead). She wanted a "fight" for whatshisname (why's he so amazing and desirable, anyway?) and she got one.

The part in the flashback when Miyano's mom calmly went to the cabinet and started breaking all the dishes was wonderfully chilling. So much more jarring and disturbing than something like showing her parents yelling at each other.

Damn, this love triangle is ruthless. Miyako's desperation was very touching. Yeah it was irrational but how can she calm down and wait when she's already been abandoned by her parents without a single word, without knowing what she did wrong if anything and on top of that Kei had recently given her declaration. And it was extremely well executed, you could see her falling apart and her messages to become more and more pleading, emotional and weird.

But I'm more interested in the other love story; I wonder what Renji will do now that he seems to have truly realized what kind of reality Chihiro is living in. Since she's only narrating her experiences to herself like writing a novel, both Renji and any extensions to her personality and experiences after the accident are pretty much like novel characters would be to normal people.

The distortions Renji felt probably came from how he started to think of the situations a bit like Chihiro does after working with her on the novel for a while. That must be a massive mindf*ck especially when it also turns his perspective of their friendship/romance into something that may seem hopeless and empty since it also means she can basically never fall in love, among other things. Or to pinpoint it a bit more, I guess it really struck him when she said her interpretation of reaching the boy in the paitings (Renji) is nothing but an illusion, and accepting him is a sign of her breaking down rather than finding happiness. I really want a happy ending but it's probably going to require magic at this rate.

This. I'd be scared to find so many voice mails on my phone. It reminded me of a manga that I read where the ex-girlfriend kept calling the main girl at her home phone. Then when the main girl unplugged her home phone, the ex-girlfriend started calling her cell phone. It got to the point where the girl panicked every time she heard a phone ring and considered suicide because she wanted it to STOP . That's what a stalker does. It's terrible.

I dislike both of the girls. I'll even go as far as to say that I hate Kei.
I don't like the love triangle at all. I'll just focus on Renji x Chihiro because I support them.

Poor Renji... that was really sad to watch. T_T

god, this episode was brutal, for both stories....

renji and chihiro's story was going great until renji broke down out of nowhere :/

watching miyako's phone scene was literally torture. i felt so bad when kei walked in on hiro and miyako eating together in his apartment a few episodes back, but after seeing what kei did here just makes her so damn despicable....

i really hope miyako doesnt end up an insane yandere or suicidal after this

Wow, this episode... I completely agree with you AngelLily. Miyoko's progression in the messages scene was completely believable and realistic in her position, though admitedly it could be scary on the receiving end, depending on how you take it. Knowing her backstory is the key to being able to really feel her pain. I don't know how Hirono will take it, if he even ever finds out...

Also, I just have to say that I didn't quite dislike Miyako from the start, but I wasn't rooting for her, since she was just butting into Kei and Hirono's relationship. However, this episode made me do a complete turnaround in terms of my opinion of both Miyako and Kei. I feel really bad for Miyako, but even more than that, what Kei did is just not ok.

What relationship? Kei had more then one chance to confess and it clear Hirono didn't seem to have feelings like that for her even when they were kids. If anything Kei is intruding on Miyako and Hirono, kind of like she did when Hirono paid attention to Chihiro instead of her.

but it was still a bitch thing to do though.

I just can't understand why people think Miyako is crazy or yandere because Kei reopened her unhealed trauma causing her to ask Hirono out in the first place. ._. Then, she became desperately scared to have the same trauma happen to her again, and realistically broke down as she felt that her path to finally escape her trauma begin to disappear. One bad thought lead to another until she's in an endless paradox of thinking whether she is being ignored, hated or abandoned. It could almost be compared to the trauma of having someone special dying, or possibly worse because that someone special is living on without wanting to remember your existence.

Kei is just as human as Miyako is. She's selfish and wants to be happy spending time with Hirono and that causes her actions to be realistic and reasonable, wanting to get rid of obstacle in her way. She even does it to Chihiro when they were just children and looked what happened to the poor girl. It's not her fault though, she obviously didn't intend for it to happen. As the show has shown continuously, she simply didn't understand the concept of being alone and didn't like it when she experiences it.

Too bad for Kei I really liked Miyako and I already had a bad impression of Kei in the first place thanks to what she did to cause Chihiro's memory defect so Kei has become one of my most hated characters of all time. >:(

Oh and this is the first episode discussion of the show I'm posting in and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to see what happens next!

That thing about deleting messages... I see it as running away from the truth, which I cannot agree to, at all. Kei should pay for that.
(I prefer Miyako from the start anyway. As for Chihiro, I'm not sure what to say, I'm still trying to make up my mind.)
What's the point of all this? // There's no point. I'm doing it because I can. That's all there is to it. // What will be left behind after this? // Nothing at all. She'll die and I'll burn out. The end. That's all. (Requiem for the Phantom)

I had other moments in anime make my tear up, but they usually had more of a build up. I mean, this could simply have been a "you wheren't there, so i hate you, idiot" phone call like used so often.

But not only did she call 99 times instead of ditching him after two minutes, they also showed that it was not just a number they made up to make it look impressive. It (at least i don't think so) wasn't 99 messages they let us hear, more like 20 or so, but i don't think any more would have really added something anyways.

And then Kei goes and deletes it within a few seconds. Destroying is always easier, but rarely is it portrayed with such extremes.
