Can someone explain to me why Fido get destroyed? Did I miss something?

This episode was kinda sad and I didn't expect the aftermath of the last battle from the surviving members from Eighty-Six point of view. I think we're going to see the Republic's side in the final episode or I could be wrong.

I think that the Fido destruction thing is yet to come chronologically. If you pay attention to the dates, you would notice. If I remember correctly, last events that we were shown "in real time" happened around mid October, whereas the last Fido's scene took place in late October. I predict we'll see what was going on in next episode.

I'm wondering if they'll pivot to Lena's perspective for the last episode and leave what's about to happen to Spearhead for the start of the second cour.

Whatever they do I "JUST WANT A HAPPY ENDING"

I don't think I can take another episode of being lulled into a false sense of security and then getting hit with a feels bomb.

Yeah, I think they'll show Lena's perspective and finish it off with the start of the new battle, leaving the suspense for what is to come.

sooooo apparently they really could have just fcked off to some forest and live a happy life all along
but first, they needed to wait for the main dude to do his revenge thing, meanwhile most of them dying, what a great dude he is! truly inspiring leader

If it weren't for shin all of them could have died already cause shin have some kind of ability and he's the best fighter in 86 and he's a kind guy that all in the district something 1 respect him and shin didn't want to drag in he's team from his own problems just because all of his selfishness it was shown recently in ep 9 it was their own decision to support shin you should rewatch it if you don't understand anything or maybe just dropped it if you really can't enjoyed cause to much of dialogs........ well if you're problem of the series is only this then good you're problem has been solved

What I am saying that apparently they could have just run away ages ago, if Shin would have decided so (all others seem to be unable to act on their own, they need to follow Shin like sheep), but instead, he decided to sacrifice most of them to wait for a chance to destroy a computer with a recording of his long-dead brother on it.

Also, they probably have a better chance of running away without Shin as he is a walking legion magnet.

Also, it is so funny, that in this anime we seem to be mourning a machine getting destroyed a lot more than when actual people die.

Amazing! Simply Amazing. It's been a long time since I've felt emotional watching an episode.

Seeing the five surviving members of the Spearhead squadron being free from the Republic put a smile to my face. Especially Shin. They all suffered a lot.

The second half of the episode with the Fido montage was incredible. Fido was there from the start. Seeing the wishes of everyone at the start and, seeing and knowing the fate of them, like Haruto and Daiya, was really sad. :(

An outstanding adaptation from A-1.

I wonder if Figo can be considered alive in the same sense as the Legion's black shepards; And if so, can shin hear Figo? That seems to be somewhat implied with comments on how Shin can understand Figo so well, even though his (her? :flushed:) movements are very limited.

They could never have "run away" the only reason they're still alive is because Lena "cleared a path" for them.
On the other sorties you can be sure they did not take extensive supplies with them.
Shin didn't sacrifice anyone, he prolonged the lives of many. It was remarked that no other "Special Recon" mission had gone out with so many surviving members of Spearhead.

You'll find that the posters saying each individual's death meant nothing to them are the haters, you know your gang...

Every death meant something to me
The point of Fido's death isn't just the loss of a long time companion but the reminder of all the others we got to know and the loss of that precious record of the moments of their painfully short lives.
(Hmm, just the thing the Republic is trying to erase)

Honestly you're coming off as pretty nasty with your angle on things.

It's honestly impossible to tell if it's either 86 or Vivy that is the best anime of this year, at this point. I was inclining more toward Vivy, but this episode changed everything. Fido's montage at the end was soul crushing.

Very emotional episode, Fido's death caught me off guard and some invisible tears happened. Now, this is confusing the hell out of me, but I do not remember many of the squadron's deaths at all. I don't even think these happened.

I went back to watch the final scenes of every episode opening to see which ones died and skimmed through every episode to find these deaths, but I just didn't find how everyone died. I just remember Kaie and Daiya.

I swear the anime just showed how one of the girls from this trio died, the rest I don't even know.

I only remember how the middle one died. What about the other two?

Offtopic: Having bad reviewers in the anime page makes me not want to come back and write in these forums. It is a terrible fucking idea to let "people" write a review whilst not having finished the show, AT LEAST. And my reports get denied because of freedom of speech. Good riddance.

You point out one of the major flaws of the first volume, in my opinion. Most of the other 86 in the squad died off-screen in the novel, the anime makes a good effort to expand a bit more on how it happened and have the viewer actually care about them. Even Daiya's death was entirely off-screened.

As for the reviews, I'd just wait for this cour to conclude and have people who stuck to it give a proper opinion. I think it only started showing it's strength in the 2nd half when it actually established some of its characters and the world.

I wonder how Fido gets his energy. It might be fuel so hopefully he doesn't run out. But it would be best if it was solar energy.

Edit: I just saw the end of the episode. I think his energy source is his smallest problem rn.

I see.....

Well they really do want to follow shin for a lot of reasons

Legion magnet isn't shin ability can only heard the voice of a legion when they're close to him about 3 kilometers maybe so im pretty sure shin can't attract legion (correct me if im wrong)

Its now episode 10 and its good.. which makes me think of the meaning of life, that we only have this one life to live, and only a selected few are lucky enough to live longer depending on the circumstances.. and they are lucky enough to live thru their journey.. but what really awaits them at the end? Will they be able to reach another country? As at the end of the episode, fido went offline and exploded.. along with all the memories of its life with the team.. which makes me also think, that memories are what makes time as a human so valuable and irreplacable, aside from the wisdom and knowledge gained thru time.. as they all think on how they will die, that theyre now free.. anyways, i rate the episode a 9.5 of 10, 9.5 for both story and art..

This is also quite untrue as they can only avoid the legion because of Shin knowing Legion's whereabouts, they cut the fire in this episode only because Shin warned them in advance or they would have been legion's prey quite easily.

If there wasn't Shin acting as a Radar, they would need to scout manually and then if they alert Legion or Legion scouts find them first, they fight, face losses, and if they win they would have alerted legion and need to shake off pursuers and that cycle would continue ad nauseum... No peace for them, and they would need to have supplies that last for more than a few weeks for survival, I just can't see them surviving by running into legion infested territory without supplies and Shin, Republic regulates their supplies so they wouldn't be having enough of them to just up and desert the battlefield at any point. Also if they try to desert, you forget the mortars which can tear them into pieces with ease. So yeah, they'll die if they try to desert and they'll die without Shin as well

Shin only attracted Rei, also they have to follow Shin because he is the legion Radar, so most of your complaints straight up don't make sense.

I thought it was something of a new journey begins, so I expected nothing really hard happened...
But that Fido's flashback hits different. The square blurry resolution camera, Hands Up To The Sky in the background, recording everyone's journey from the very beginning. Sadly the next episode is gonna be the last of this season, can't be helped. A-1 Pictures did a fantastic job!

Although I was not expecting Fido's POV like bloopers. That hit melo until the cliffhanger. Hope he's alright.

Man this episode was feeling like a nice lighthearted change from the other episodes. Then came the ending of the episode. Seeing all the moments from Fido’s POV with the music in the background was great but was also an obvious death flag for him. RIP Fido.
Also, does anyone else love all of the music in this show as much as I do? The OP, ED, and background music are awesome imo.

as far as what I understand from the show, running away into Legion's territory means suicide! they couldn't run away especially with so many ppl and no resources! and in the beginning, some of them thought they would survive if they fought for 6 months, they didn't know the truth. it was a suicide squad anyway so they decided to accomplish something before they die!

I wonder why Fido had to die. I felt it coming as soon as I realized the camera POV was Fido's lens. Feels like a symbolic way to leave the past behind... this show hits the right chords with me, definitely knows how to pull the strings of emotion.

I was unsure of what was gonna happen after they went into uncharted territory. Episode 9 was action packed and this episode provided some much needed respite. The ending montage from Fido's perspective was also phenomenal. I do wonder how Lena is going to be reintegrated with the story tho. Thus i shall read the light novel.

This was beautiful but somehow not. 13th October 2148 everything looked good for the group actually,

....30th October 2148 :(

Poor support unit, it was so beautiful how Fido went through all the memories stored, in a quite cinematic way. Kurena was so funny there *sweet*. Kind of very sweet memories, aside from unfair fighting conditions a 86's life wasn't all that grim.

This is just my speculation, without Fido there is little they can do, if no miracle happens they will either get blown up or starve to death. But they have all accepted their fate since a long time already. Its still fascinating that they show this attitude without complaining actually.

They usually beat back the robots with realatvie ease, so when there were a lot more of the squad, they proabably could have cleared a way for themselves. Now they have already seen a tons of new robots (from a lot closer than usual, usually only radar picks them up, but now they saw them with their own eyes), so if the robots didn't "aggro" on them now, they probably could have avoided them earlier too.

Now compared to previous times, NOTHING has changed, the robots are still out there (they destroyed plenty of robots in a fight before too), but now apparently they can go free.

We are saying this, because the anime did very little to make us care about the characters, and in the anime 99% of the time, other characters don't give a sht about their teammates dying, so why would we?
So far fido's death is the only that they presented as "sad".

In one of the earlier episodes they explained, that everybody who got transferred here knew the truth. Knowing that they are on death row they would try to do something about it, but nah.
Accomplish what? Protect the "nazi"-s?
What I really dislike about the show that the 86 are in a terrible situation, but they are still the most obedient sheep ever.
Why is it better now to go into the enemy territory than before?

We only ever seen the republic transport stuff once (since they don't come by every day, they have to transport more stuff) and with several big crates, so it probably is a reasonable ammount of resources to last for a while.
They don't have any more resurces now, and they seem to be doing very well.

Yes, the anime is full of this. It lacks consistency. There are no clear rules, there are some, but they only apply whenever it is convenient.
Also the random dying robot somehow knew where Shin was, the other robots for some reason don't.
Before, I belive it was explained that it is a 2-way street, he knew that his "brother" is out there, but his "brother" knew that he is here.

Let me address these one by one, do we need to see the republic deliver supplies every time they do, to know that they are the ones to regulate it? It's like saying that the 86 aren't living at all except for the times they are shown to be living or that they aren't fighting legion except the times we see them fighting... And there is the point that Lena sends a 'big crate' full of fireworks that last one evening, surely you don't believe several 'big crates' can last for months together.
Also before they go off for the mission they are given a month's resources for each of them, you'll see what will happen to them without proper maintenance and dwindling supplies this week (since the preview indicates as much)

Lena aimed it and then checked impact with para raid... she didn't aim it with para raid, in the case of Lena using duds against Shin's brother, she asks Kurena to guide them to avoid error so that Shin isn't caught up in the mortar strike... Also they can just cut the audio off but they are still visible to them on the screens, granted there is no proof about that. But it would be like switching off the gps everytime you get off a call, it's idiotic if you consider the situation they are in

Random dying robot didn't know where Shin was, it was just going elsewhere, didn't you see what Shin said initially? He said that they won't even meet with that unit if they keep going their way and that it didn't even notice them. Shin just goes there to put it to rest, the in-universe rules are consistent enough imo.
Also yes, he did say that his brother knew where he was, that could be because his brother was searching for Shin particularly, the how isn't really explained though.

Yes, Human eyes can spot better than robot eyes(/s), by the time they spot legion, it's common sense that Legion will spot them as well, especially with a fire. Also why would Legion camouflage themselves in their territory? I'm quite curious

Can you SPOIL ME AGAIN, would they talk again? Or since they are out of range, does that mean the next 2 LN volumes will be like 2 separate lines, typical her story and his story ?

They could never have "run away" the only reason they're still alive is because Lena "cleared a path" for them.
On the other sorties you can be sure they did not take extensive supplies with them.
Shin didn't sacrifice anyone, he prolonged the lives of many. It was remarked that no other "Special Recon" mission had gone out with so many surviving members of Spearhead.

We are saying this, because the anime did very little to make us care about the characters, and in the anime 99% of the time, other characters don't give a sht about their teammates dying, so why would we?
So far fido's death is the only that they presented as "sad".

Honestly you're coming off as pretty nasty with your angle on things.

Sorry to bother you with logic.

Logic is a dangerous weapon to bring to a sci-fi show, it requires a comprehensive understanding of the in world rules, not trying to shoehorn in real world logic. You consistently demonstrate that you misunderstand these rules, and even go further in denying them once another poster explains how things work.

Of course some stuff is close to real world but you even get that logic wrong.
The standard Legion are easy, but they are many. Silly you for not understanding the difference between an individual and a swarm. Go try it out with hornets.
Supply lines rule, try turning off the water and electric to your house and see how long it stays pleasant.

Top marks again for empathy.
Oh look someone died, but they didn't make ME care. You sound like an Alba !! Individual deaths can be sad regardless of what we know about those who die. Don't you feel sad each time there's another mass shooting news story? The sadness comes from understanding the circumstances, not knowing the individuals.

And you think the other Spearhead members don't give a shit, this really shows how little empathy you have.

Such a wholesome episode. Much needed. It's this downtime, the interludes between the story that set this show apart. Giving us time to absorb everything.

Fido's whole perspective was so refreshing. Like seeing a recap of everything we know with more detail. Haruto :( Kureha's (?) little girly rants. Shin's private moment with Lena, promising to survive.

You know, the second in this episode where they were like "Shin, how can you understand Fido so well?" I'm like, bruh, Fido's an 86 trapped in this robot isn't he? (anime only viewer here, just a theory)

Well, that was a nice episode, extremely well done,it was good to see Shin and the rest enjoying their freedom.
And then they showed the Fido recap!
Holy crap, that nearly had me in tears! - It was so good, and yet so sad,and then to see what happened to Fido, damn, that was heartbreaking!

The studio has outdone themselves yet again. All the way through this anime so far, they have shown how capable they are at putting together a series that pulls emotions in all directions.

Like i'm sure this is a good adaptation and all but i really don't give a shit about ANY of them except maybe Shin a bit, so that montage at the end did nothing but bore me.

Pure speculation.

Was the research that created Fido somehow related to the Legion?

It's fine, it's fine. I don't know what you usually watch, but if what you saw so far didn't impress the hell out of you, then this is probably not for you 🤤
