They are also trying way too hard to turn Rak into a meme character, he's very annoying in the Anime.
Khun's struggle during the third test was pretty cool in the Manhwa, and pretty cringy in the Anime.
The beginning of the crown game is kind of disappointing as well. The moment with Anaak blowing everyone away and putting on the crown gave me goosebumps in the Manhwa, and they turned into a comedy scene instead.
But other than those few complaints, the episode was fine. The next episode should be the first highlight episode if they do it well.
I came to basically say that. I hate what they're doing with Rak. Also with Shibisu. They add character traits that are not really there to begin with. Shibisu is not full of himself. I was really expecting to see how they would treat him resolving the clock enigma. I was very disappointed. That moment was supposed to be the defining moment for him. That despite being weak as fuck trying to make himself look better, he was probably the smartest of the characters here, by finding hints even Khun didn't find. That is also what made Anaak and Hatsu respect him. But here it was turned as a joke.
Then there is the Rak case. Making him run everywhere during the test as a gag character destroy everything. Rak is a warrior to the bone. That kind of action feel really out of place. Part of what makes Rak funny is that he takes everything (too) seriously. Here he is just a clown. Most of his funny moment come from situation jokes, not him acting like a buffon.
Then there is the Khun. He is NOT the type that lose his temper over something like that. He is the archetype of the cold calculating man. The emphasis put on how he felt is so off character. Changing the I'm overthinking the thing so much I nearly failed the test by a PTSD moment nearly made me fail the test. And let's not even begin with that "protect the eyes" thing... And the rumor about them being lover? Everything about Khun seemed done to catter some kind of fetish that are popular. Several decisions feel like this (like making Rak a joke). As if they were forcing ToG character into tropes popular with anime that the original work didn't have.
Up until now, I was fine with the change they did, even finding some of them really nice (the fact Baam and Rachel don't enter "together" was one of the most pleasant surprises). But here we modify their defining traits, and that's not right to me. Up until now despite some defaults, I thought it did pretty well transcribing the serie.
I also hate Baam's voice more and more. Baam is innocent, but not a wimp. He is determined despite being weak. But the voice acting make him sound like a big pussy.
I'm also annoyed by the fact they add some questionnable comedy scenes while cuting pretty much all the good jokes.
Now, it's still decent, but I begin to have a bad feeling about this.
Shibisu I thought was portrayed pretty well in the Anime so far. I didn't like how they made Anaak and Hatz react to him solving the challenge, because in the Webtoon they seemed like they were starting to respect him, while in the Anime they only seem annoyed. Though it doesn't bother me too much. I'm glad they kept the scene with Shibisu talking to Bam in and they even managed to make it look more natural. I liked Shibisu a lot in the Webtoon, and I still like him here.
Rak was turned from a hilarious but respectable and powerful character into an annoying meme-ass fuck. He was already annoying in episode 2, but episode 3 really pushed it. Khun's inner struggle was over-dramaticized to the point where it felt nothing more than awkward, but aside from that one scene, he's been fine. I see no hope with Rak, though, who is probably only going to become more annoying from here on.
Right, Bam's voice, completely forgot to mention that. Bam's voice is getting more annoying episode by episode. In general it feels like they tried to turn him into a wimp just because for some reason this is the trend for MCs nowadays.
Adaptation is still fine, though. Next episode is gonna be big, they have to nail that.
