These goddamn cliff hangers! Finally the Xings have entered the fight. I didn't quite understand the aura sensing ability that the Xing seem to possess.
Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!

So that wrath/envy/gluttony scene in the beginning was anime only? It seems like the team really wanted to show the close connection between Lust and Gluttony. They did that a lot in FMA.

So we finally get to see Ling and Ran Fan in action.

Havoc, out :( I liked him, I hope he stays around via small cameos here or there.

Fight against Scar is going tough, then the Homunculi show up. King Bradley is being pretty straightforward now, jeez. He's attacking Ling and co now?

Next episode should be interesting!

Also, I love the gag of Winry hitting Ed with the wrench. I laugh everytime, but this one was even better with Al "catching" Ed's soul and putting it back in his body xD

Bradley is not wasting his time...seems that in Brotherhood the stuff are happening faster, but I guess it's because the original had fillers...

Episode enjoyable, the story moves forward and things are increasingly dissimilar to what was seen in the FMA, as to the question of Dr. Marco, good gags and interesting final with a nice twist.

The fact that Führer revealed his true identity to Ling and his bodyguard means he isn't planning on letting them live. And he's one skilled fighter too, I hope they're going to live through that. Someone please come to their aid!

The Elric Brothers volunteered to act as living bait to lure Scar in with Ling's assistance but things got complicated with Bradley cramming himself into the picture, slicing up Lan Fan in an instant.

Havoc survived Lust's deadly attack but he got off worse than anyone could've thought. His legs might not work anymore but Roy's not letting go of him just yet.

I've seen so many shounen anime with bad comedy, especially the past year (Jujutsu Kaisen still haunts me with its awful comedy this season), but FMAB surprisingly does get me with its comedy. The scene with Ed teasing Roy about his failure against Scar due to rain was pretty funny. Other than that, another great episode again with a nice cliffhanger of King Bradley attacking Lan Fan. Edward and Roy had some great chemistry this episode as they look to bring out the homunculi as well as confront Scar at the same time.

Poor Havoc though. He's loyal to Roy but due to him not being able to move, he forcibly had to let himself go and try and push Roy to move on to become the fuhrer without him. Roy leaving the room for Havoc to join him again eventually when he is ready was nice though, he sure loves to never give up in people no matter what, especially those he's really close with and trusts.

Been enjoying this rewatch massively. It's so convenient to have this huge thing on streaming with dub, very accessible. Back in the day Netflix only had so many parts so now you can watch it straight through.

Plus my sound is better this time, not sure if that's making a difference. I'm using my hi-fi for the sound after I got a toslink cable. So I've just been breezing through.

The pace of this is great! It's moving very quickly.

Tone is top notch! Always know where I am.

Director has clearly made a masterpiece here, no doubt this time. Why do I know so? Cinematic shots, grand sweeping scenes, character movement. On rewatch I'm really appreciating the intricacies of everything characters do. Cutbacks to manga references that they liked, but also movement and choreography.

I think from episode one, the director has made an epic statement about his expectation for this piece. And episode one was so impressive!

You know, I never bought into the manga back in the day. But then I never bought into One Piece manga either. So having easy access has definitely made me want to rewatch things.

Back in the day, I really wanted the gritty anime with the darkest stuff. Nowadays after having experienced the darkest stuff, it's like my mindset has changed, I take things easier as they come. So with age and maturity has come a new perspective. Or perhaps I'm lazier these days.

Well anyways, I think direction here is unimpeachable. Watching from episode one has totally fixed the held-over issues I had with characters like Edward Elric or Hughes or Mustang, who came off as annoying or arrogant or overly nice in the 2003 adaptation. It's funny how old memories can really mess with you. Back when the dub for FMA 03 came out, I thought, what IS this!? Who are these people!? They're so annoying! I really hated the tone of the show, compared to things like Bebop I didn't understand what the author was trying to do at all.

It was sort of a rude awakening. I just thought it was a shounen for kids!

But this show has totally clicked here for me so far. One cannot question the production staff, director or the making of anime here. As for the story, I'm only 1/3 through so far, so we will see. I'm more a hunter for story, so my expectations may be high.

But this is clearly the greatest anime adaptation, there's no doubt on rewatch. SO MUCH effort went into producing this anime. And now I understand when people say it gives you a 'feeling'. The total overall effort in character movement, crisp animation, direction, cutbacks to manga...it's just overwhelming the massively heavy work that went into this series. It's romantic because of this, you get swept up into the story, and you keep hungering for more and more.

This is quite a project! But I had to work for this rewatch. It's likely the culmination of many years of watching anime to be able to enjoy a work like this in this way and compare it in my mind to so many things. I am at the proper place where I can enjoy all that this series has to give me.

So we shall see the rest of the way if the story can keep up with the adaptation and prove worthy of it. We shall see. Excited to see.

not really much to say. Winry's still a bitch, Ed and Al still easily get whatever the plot wants them to have easily, Ling still follows and leeches off them, and Mustang still cares more about being their dad than getting his priorities straight in becoming fuhrer for some reason. If the homunculi are really that concerned about harming their sacrifices why don't they just confine them like they did with Marco?

Ed and Al are just too high profile. Dr. Marcoh was already in hiding/trying to keep a very low profile from the military. Ed and Al were very active in the military, frequently in Central, and would have made waves if they were to suddenly disappear. Plus, with them being in the military, Bradley could keep a pretty good eye on them. But with Dr. Marcoh, the homonculi could keep an eye on him, but it would have been more of a burden. This is just too obvious, don't know how you missed it.

The problem is that the military is being portrayed atm like the homunculi are literally in control of everything, it's all to their advantage. If Ed and Al were to mysteriously disappear, any consequence as a result to that could be negated considering Envy was able to manipulate the media into believing Ross killed Hughes pretty easily

It's due to Father's superiority attitude towards the brothers. Father considers them as mere ants which can be crushed anytime he wants and unlike Marcoh, Ed and Al knows nothing of Father's plan, the puppet government or creation of philosopher's stone so there's no threat and need for their imprisonment. This would have been of significance if Ed and Al managed to defeat Father without the help of Hohenheim but that doesn't happen here. In the end Father's judgement was right and everything goes accordingly one way or the other.

I guess that makes sense, I don't remember much about Father's character so I'll keep watching to see if the story clears it up later. I think he ended up helping Ed when he's hurt iirc so he does value them exclusively unlike his sins

Edward ponders on the assumption that
Alphonse may be absorbing some nutrients through him. Mustang suspects that the Führer is cooperating with the homunculi. Havoc reveals the lower half of his body is paralyzed, and
Mustang feels responsible for it. Scar has returned to Central and murders three more state alchemists. Edward and Alphonse dangerously plan to confront Scar in order to draw out the homunculi. Ling and Lan Fan appear and agree to help them, as it would benefit Ling in finding immortality. Mustang sends Breda to locate
Marco, only to find he has been kidnapped.
Edward begins showboating in the streets, eventually luring in Scar. While the Elric brothers fight him, Mustang goes to the command center and reports false information regarding the whereabouts of Scar, confusing and stalling the state military. Lan Fan attacks Gluttony, but is soon injured by Bradley.

Pretty good episode
Followed the manga mostly .
removed two or three things I wished they would have added , but oh well.
Either way , this was mostly a " how and why " episode.
Showed why and how the brother came to be how they are.
with Ed seeing the Truth .
then Roy meeting the brothers
Ed vowing to take 1 year to recover and him consequently being able to transmute without Circles thanks to him having seen "IT" ( and Al not remembering).
And finally Ed's Exam to become a state alchemist , where he promtly attacked Bradly who told him he still doesn't know the world xD.
Thus showing how the fuhrur gave Ed an "ironic" name : the FullMetal Alchemist.

Next week , they goin' to Liore/Reole ~

oh , and the score was pretty darn awesome. Akira Senju delivers !!

This was another great episode, the first part was pretty humorous with Ed almost admitting he was short. It’s a shame that Jean is now paralysed and unable to do anymore work for Mustang because quite honestly I quite enjoyed his company and looks like Scar has come back, we’ve now figured out that he was in fact the killer to Winry’s parents and we are going to get a fight with not just him but with the Furher Bradley or should that be Wrath but against Ling who hasn’t had the chance to show off his abilities in this show yet anyway.
Another funny part was when Ed was acting dorky when he was helping out people around the town. XD Why did we have to get a cliff-hanger? It’s like they are teasing us. Oh well it looks like from the preview alone it’s gonna be quite a big episode for Winry. Can’t wait.

I'm unbelievably confused by some of the comments here stating stuff that doesn't happen in this episode?

Anyways I really enjoyed this episode, especially the bit with Mustang providing false info. Was just as funny when I read it in the manga.
Envy got switched out for Gluttony and Wrath, meh decision to me. I kinda wish they stuck with the original.
Also for a moment I thought the show had gotten a new animation style mid-episode, with the quirky bit about Edward helping the city. Dude's the best shonen protagonist I've seen
