I'm tired of the suggestion that all adults are either mindless, idiotic sheep or immoral and lecherous (warlords/bandits/slave-traders), and only the kids know what's actually going on; because everyone knows once you turn 18, you lose all common sense. I feel shows like this try too hard to be a shounen anime.

What are you talking about? Baba is well over being adult, and she doesn't act like that. Also, Hakuei is 21, an adult, and her ways of thinking aren't mindless. There just happen to be villains who are adults that have been corrupted by power or wealth.

Did you see all the adults in the rest of the clan? Or how about all of the soldiers? Hakuei maybe 21, but she's distinctly designed so that kids relate to her.

If you were so set in your ways, and had so much pride in your clan and then your leader got shot, of course you'd want to rebel and fight against the enemy. Granted that at least some of the adults should've thought more rationally, their way of life is being attacked, and they're scared of losing what they've known their whole lives. With Dolge, he had already fought through that issue, and was told directly by Baba not to kill anyone which is the only reason he didn't cause a war in the first place.
And as it was stated, Ryosai was going to be the original leader of that army, so of course they would follow him and not Hakuei. They probably aren't going to care about a group of people that isn't their own, at the risk of being ousted or killed by Ryosai, if they even began to think it wasn't a good idea.

In real life, people are not all single-mindedly lockstep with each other emotionally, but the real sticking point here is that the adults are all depicted as sheep that can't think for themselves, and required either the old, women, or children to rationalize and see the bigger picture -- it is this obvious juxtaposition, this separation of two groups: the adults that cause problems, and the children who solve problems. This undoubtedly attracts the younger crowd with deeply-seated teen angst and anger against adults who misunderstand them, but it is not how the real world works. Yes, there may be adults who are quick to judge, that may even be the majority, but to depict all of the adults as either evil or incompetent, and all of the children as problem solvers, is frankly ridiculous.

This isn't the first anime that missed this concept; Magi is clearly aimed at younger teens, and it does so by antagonizing older characters. There isn't even an element in the story that could justify it; rather it's the blatant style of the direction, the inner narrative that's present in every scenario. You see it as Ryosai and Hakuei; I see the tyrannical father archetype and the idealistic young woman.

Actually, this series features quite a few young characters and children who are utterly misguided, anything but rational or even murderously sociopathic.Even among the good guys.

Meanwhile, the single most competent guy on the side of the "good guys" is this cunning, grownass adult man you can catch a glimpse of in the opening.

We'll see. Misguided, sociopathic are ethical judgments. I'm talking about competency.

If we are talking competence, then I'll have to say that I can't see Hakuei's performance too positively in that regard. To summarize:

1)She failed to notice the brewing betrayal in her own army.
2)She was unable to earn neither trust nor obedience of soldiers under her command. She was in command only on a formal level.
3)She played right into the trecherous lowlife's plans.Had it not been for Baba, her whole peaceful assimilation thing would fail miserably.
4)Even then, she still managed to get caught in Ryosai's trap.
5)She lost to Ryosai and his troops...that was nothing to be proud of even in the manga, where she merely unleashed some raw wind elementfrom her vessel, but it's made downright embarassing in the anime, where she lost with Djinn Equip.FULLBODY Djinn Equip.

Normally,a person with THAT on is a walking WMD.Low on Magoi or not, losing to some mooks with a full Djinn Equip is pretty bad.

She wasn't all that capable in this arc.Realy, she wasn't.

Ryosai,on the hand, was pretty competen in achieving his goals.I mean,he would've gotten away with it if not for that meddling kid and his stupid Djinn!

It is chiaroscuro -- night and day -- how they portrayed Hakuei as even-minded, mentally-stable, compared to Ryosei's rabid, over-zealous power grab. It's about competency, but it is also about EQ (emotional quotient). Any evident weaknesses in the characters are on a different level. Compare Ryosei to Jafar to Scar to Loki (from the Avengers) and you'll see an uncanny similarity that's the product of bad writing that pitches a false dichotomy of good against evil, level-minded against raging lunatics, pure and naive against corruption and zeal. Even the "good" characters who are either morally questionable or without power show the ability to reason -- something sorely missing on the other side. A lot of movies or anime don't have to paint all the protagonists or antagonists with a broad brush to get their point across.

All the villains that have shown up in Magi so far lack mental fortitude, they easily buckle under pressure and plead for life regardless of their strengths. All the voices of reason are either women or children.

I liked this episode, it was a great ending to a pretty interesting arc. Got to see another dungeon clearer + djinn. Also, another magi? I know it was hinted at before, but man, this series just gets more confusing by the episode.

Also, I'm surprised Alladin did not completely go apeshit after seeing Paimon's chest, haha.

Anyways, I'm kinda glad and not glad at the same time that I haven't read the manga, on one hand not being able to tell if the pacing is too fast or not, on the other hand, I'm missing out on alot of background information, but I'm sure everything will become clear later in the series.

Nice wrap up to this arc. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well not as much as I could have because granny died :(
The fighting scenes were nice, I really like the story progression and in which direction its heading, so the chosen king for Aladdin is Alibaba.. although it was a mistake I guess we could blame destiny, because I'm assuming Alibaba is of royalty some how, maybe its just his rightful place.....speculation here, I have not read the manga so I do not need confirmation.

Very great episode from beginning to end. A lot of content was covered, we're really going fast I'd say a little too fast. RIP to Granny. I'm glad that guy who tried to set up Hakuei and both clans was taken out. I enjoyed seeing Hakuei fight, she looked good! Also glad we seen Hakuei's djinn and that we got some interesting revelations from her! It was nice to see Aladdin say his goodbyes to the village, I liked this arc. Can't wait to see what happens next.

So . . . Hakuei is an enemy then, right? Cause she was chosen by that other Magi who I'm going to bet is definitely evil. Also, a side note, can Magi choose multiple kings? Cause he seems to want to select Hakuei's younger brother despite already having selected her, or does he plan to throw her away once he is bored.
