I've no idea who this Li Hua Wang is who's now being credited as director instead of Kenichi Imaizumi, but it's clear they don't really have a clue. Take the sequence after the episode title card. Mahiru greets Itsuki and he then apologises for butting in, which gives the impression that Mahiru was already there and he's just arrived. But then he teases Amane about having given Mahiru a key, so what really happened was Itsuki was already there and Mahiru just arrived - as it stands, the key teasing looks like it came out of nowhere. Then the next day Chitose is on the phone to Amane and in the very next cut she jarringly turns up in the apartment without any indication of time having elapsed but it was actually 3 or 4 hours later. It almost feels like there are some cuts missing here.

At the end of the episode, some days have also been removed between the "mother from hell" incident and the sakura viewing. I can understand why they're telescoping things because if they really are going to get to the end of volume 4 this season they're going to have to get a move on, but the weather was bad on the day of the mother incident and good for the viewing. OK, so they made it look symbolic like a storm had blown over, with a shot of clouds clearing away as Mahiru asks Amane if he wants to go for a walk, but it just felt wrong somehow.

As for the mother incident, I don't know if the problem was in the ESL-level subs or in the Japanese script, but the official English LN translation (which admittedly can be problematic too) says that Mahiru was the result of "one night's indiscretion" which implies that her parents usually never touched each other but maybe just got drunk one night and had unprotected hatesex, which is not at all how the subs make it sound.

Anyway, yes, the animation is getting worse. Lots of cheapo panning background shots over dialog and ultra close-ups to avoid animating lip flaps, although there weren't any terrible off-model characters like last week. Continuity is sloppy because the blanket Mahiru uses to cover her head was red in last week's preview but yellow now, and the colouring is weird in other places too - like at 13:29, why is Mahiru's mother wearing clothes the exact same colour as Mahiru's school uniform? Saved a little time, I suppose, as the colours were already in the palette.

Despite all the above, 10/10, would watch again. I don't know what there is about this story, The LN is badly written and riddled with inconsistencies (plus the translation is a bit slapdash too, which doesn't help) and the characters are like walking trope collections who behave in ways that no real person would, but still I'm kind of losing count of how many times I've read the currently published volumes and I'm counting down the hours and minutes until the next volume is out.

PS Mahiru is NOT flat, she just usually wears clothes that don't show off her figure. The flattie is Chitose, only you might not survive if you say that to her face.

For those who still doesnt read the Light Novel yet like me, this episode is the best episode for all current airing episode for this series so far...

this episode explain any scene in the previous episode

Reason why Mahiru sitting in the swing in the first episode
Reason why Her parent will never call her given name ever
Reason why she really working hard and strict in anything
Reason why she never received (or rejected) any gift or celebrate anything before meeting Amane

though the plot is actually is easy guessed since any similiar roncom anime have same plot like this... but i'am still like the progress this anime and like to rewatch the episode

my scores is 10/10 for this 7th Eps

And ED Song... the studio is really doing good job by choosing GReeeeN - Ai Uta (Covered by Mahiru) for closing the Episode.
its perfect song thats really fits for this episode

Well, anime adaptation to LN cannot be 100% literal. I share some of your opinions, but still a very likeable adaptation.

Yes, of course it can't be 100%, but it could have been done a lot better, and yet somehow it's still as you say very likeable.

I guess it's like a boy/girlfriend, you can see all their faults but you still love them to bits.

Looks like we got another case of Top 10 worst anime moms on our hands here lol, but yeah it was really clear to me that there were issues regarding her parents, but I didn’t expect it to be quite like this, so she’s just a straight up unwanted child and her parents told her directly instead of beating around the bush, that really hurts to see but thankfully our boy Amane turned on therapist mode and comforted Mahiru when she needed him most which was a great scene, and it was followed by an even greater scene of the two of them walking among the Sakura Trees which looked beautiful and what Mahiru said about spring was a nice way to end it, I’m a huge fan of Spring myself after not liking it much growing up, I’m really excited for it this year.

I also enjoyed the first bit with Akazawa and Chitose, they’re definitely a great wing couple for the main couple and I also just love getting more Chitose lol. And that’s another ED I’ve heard before on Takagi-san, I liked that version better but I love seeing it here too.

Yes, it's a slice of life anime, but it's also "real" and emotional. So much character growth in this episode.

This is finally getting interesting and we finally get a background story from Mahiru! Nice!
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

After much anticipation we finally get a glimpse of Shiina's past and it's pretty sad, actually it IS sad. But despite all that this episode never failed to be cute, wholesome, and heartwarming.

Absolutely loved this episode. Some nice teasing moments at the start, when their friends both came to stay over, then that scene where Mahiru told about her past, and was able to let some of her emotions out. And the surprise hug from behind when they were outside. Super wholesome!

Considering her parents are most likely for a very well off families that made them merry to consolidate power, I highly doubt they would be fine sending her away. The point of an arranged marriage is an heir, not just the marriage itself. Her backstory is just a melodramatic mess that makes more roll my eyes more than pity the character because of how overblown it is.

If either of Mahiru's parents aren't the 'first son' the marriage may well be just for the power, the heir might be someone else

So Mahiru's family considers her as a liability...funny that they don't seems to consider that when they get old they'll gonna be needing their daughter's help in the future.

So as an LN reader, saying I am  disapointed is underestimating, I really tried to love this show, but after this episode, its impossible

this episode sucked, and it sucked a lot.

that scene where Amane held Mahiru, it was horrible, in the LN I could actually see Amane´s feelings and thoughts.

believe me I really tried to love this show, but everything about it is mediocre at best.
animation is mediocre, pacing is bad, story telling isn´t good either

Thanks for describing everything I feel about this adaptation. If ever a season 2 become a thing I hope they give it to a different studio.

I don't think the studio is the problem. Project No. 9 have made some OK stuff before, I think it's probably just a combination of the previously-unknown director and maybe COVID-related production issues.

That's kind of the point, I suppose. As I saw someone post on another forum, in 10 years time they'll be living together and have 2 kids and still be denying that they're dating.

for me Mahiro is strong because she didn't have proper parents unlike the normal ones, but of course good timing Amane is there for her!
oh god! with all that intimacy i guess they don't need to do the courting and skip it and go straight marry!

There's no particular reason to plug Takagi-san because there's virtually no connection between the productions. The cynical side of me says it's maybe cheaper to license an existing song than it is to commission a new one. The fact that the ED is just a still shot rather than animated could also point towards budget constraints.

This Episode is Make a reason why They developt the relationship. Not like other Romcom, This romcom try to out of the Box with use Drama as good reason why Mahiru start to fall in Love with Amane. And for Amane, This episode shows His character development as Main character before new conflict in few more episodes before this anime complete in episode 12.

GET TOGETHER ALREADY! I get that there's the appropriate time that the writer has for that but good God that's taking so much longer than it should. We focus only on these two and they've barely made any progress while literally they confess multiple times in each episode.

To be honest itsuki and chitose are basically us viewers looking at mahiru & amane and wonder "How are they so close but not a couple yet?" xD
But glad they both are really supportive of our mc's, especially itsuki he really talks it with amane on being open and honest about his feelings. A good bro.
Finally we see mahiru's parent history and backstory. Foreshadowed in earlier episodes especially how she used to react when parents topic was brought up, her school life of her being portrayed as someone perfect and her maid being the only one there for her at childhood , teaching her most of the things she knows, also at times when she looked forward for bit of appreciation and attention.
Like even if the child was accidental hating each other is one thing then taking out the hate on your kid, ruining their life emotionally is another. Literally treating her just like a liabilty and a object devoid of emotions.  Guess that what happens when you are a shitty human through and through. *Sigh* another nominees for parents of the year.
I am glad amane chose the right action for her, didnt cross the line intervening or prodding too much in her depressing past life or resort to  insult her parents (even if they deserved it), but gave her comforting word which she needed to hear, a little bit of physical affection as a human being which mahiru was craving for. Making her feel needed and that she was already amazing the way she really is without being the perfect version of her. The wholesome hugs made up for it.
The little cherry blossom walk was nice, Mahiru making a semi adorable confessionn and asking amane to just look at her. & no one else. Amane the dunce ofc "it will be weird if i didnt fall for her" yea no shit buddy like cmon what else you need to realize shes practically half of your life now xD

But i am glad now mahiru see's cherry blossoms in a new pov now, something that makes her happy because of the one beside her.  too much lewd handholding though :3
Also the transisition to the art visual with new ED, just Chef's kiss to end it. Another shot of diabetes of an episode. loved it.
