Man, the facial expressions of those Shadows were so ugly.

And damn, Ushio showed up earlier than expected. Hopefully she will stop being stupid and will listen to Shinpei this time.

Ok now, I was really intrigued by Hizuru, but that split personality thing feels kind of off. Also, they don't bother explaining about her to Shinpei, as the shadow might know the info by copying him, but literally Nezu spills the bean in the very next set piece.

I happened to notice that in the last ep, when the island was getting consumed and "mother" descended from the sky, the eye of "mother" was missing when Shinpei glanced at her while entering the time tunnel. It reminds me of what the monster shadow mentioned when looking at Shinpei's face ("why do you have mother's eye? with it you can control time..."). What does Shinpei's new eye have to do with mother, and how did Ushio give it to him?

Also, I know that Hizuru warned Shinpei to not trust the shadows, no matter how they act or look like, but what is it with Ushio's shadow acting like a real human? When shinpei goes back in the time tunnel, he hear's Ushio speaking to him to protect Mio. Is Ushio somehow still alive in astral form, and somehow able to control the shadow? but then Ushio's shadow doesn't even remember telling Shinpei to protect Mio, unless that's because the astral Ushio and shadow Ushio are from different timelines? Could this be linked to how Ryuunosuke is still able to live through Hizuru's body after getting killed?

This is getting really interesting and complex...

First episode in a while where it feels like the main characters actually have the upper hand.

I also liked the method where Ryuunosuke stabbed himself to get Shadow Shiori off him, quick thinking is essential in this show. I also loved the bit where Hizuru took over by punching Ryuunosuke out, you could see the blushing through the bloody nose lol, cute and scary. And man Mio had us in the first half ngl, that definitely looked like a horrific scene until it was revealed she was trying to cut onions lol, I love the fake-out, and it also looks like Ushio is appearing way earlier this time, I wonder what events will come of this

Can you explain me about this scene where Ryuunosuke stabbed him/herself to strike the Shadow? How does that work and why would hurting yourself would cause damage to entirely different individual being?

I had to go back and watch this scene again to make sure I answered correctly since it’s been nearly a year since I watched this episode lol, but I believe it’s because Shadow Shiori’s shadow was on Ryuunosuke’s body and he stabbed himself so he could hit her even though she was on top of him.

This would've been a pretty big deal on Toonami back in the day. The irony is they never would've shown it because of all the violence, which is a shame. Which makes the Adult Swim label pretty weird overall.

The mystery is cool and this is eminently watchable. Keep the time curves coming. Also has good summer feel. The dark mystery would've made this perfect for midnight viewings back in the day. Also would work great on a weekly basis.

So, conflicted about the rights but knowing it never would've made landfall anyways because it's too 'edgy', I'll just try to enjoy one that didn't slip through the ether.

Hard to tell if hype is justified or generic yet. I like it though. 25 eps is a long time to go wrong, we'll see. >:( *Studious*

This is also different from Higurashi. Let this be its own thing. Nothing like good island tales, muhaha. You don't know how many Japanese folk tales there are about ghosts near water and islands. Which makes this a pretty big deal, especially the tropicalness. Feels like it should've already been a thing and is now a thing in this anime, so will enjoy.

So Hizuru shares her body with her brother? Which means she's the smart one and her brother is the badass I guess? That's kind of a bummer tbh. I hope we at least get an explanation why they share one body later on.

I suspect Ushio's shadow shares Shin's power and can remember previous loops. Also I doubt killing Mio's shadow is gonna go smoothly because killing Shiori's shadow will have ramifications.

Okay... something changed in this timeline, namely Shiori's shadow died. Although it turns out that her shadow is different from the other shadows.

I can understand Shinpei's hesitation when he wanted to beat "Shiori" up because the shadow really looked like the real Shiori... but it felt a bit... annoying...? I was relieved when Sensei instantly destroyed the shadow and eliminated it without any hesitation.

And... Shinpei's first and foremost goal is to protect Mio, right? I'm afraid this has something to do with Ushio's "shadow", that is currently appearing suddenly and ruining the timeline. We all know, the current Ushio has her consciousness as a human and not just a "copy", but after all, she's not fully human either... since Shinpei is repeating time then we'll stick to what the shadow Shinpei said about "a human's arm/ankle won't heal immediately after being broken" or something like that on July 24th.

Wait, omg. I realize that Ushio interrupted the timeline but this is so.... isn't it still the 22nd? Shinpei met Ushio 2 days early. Damn... I don't know what happens after this...

The pacing has been pretty terrible. I should read the manga instead. Well, the directors have done ok with what limits they've been given
