This episode felt more like it was tying up all the ideas and plot elements that it was introducing over the last 3 episodes. Not saying that that's a bad thing, since we definitely needed that to actually get the main story started.

Other than that, alot of new stuff was introduced too. They introduced the idea that Shadows don't necessarily always do evil things, can make their own choices, and can have a personality of their own. Perhaps this Ushio shadow can become their ally of sorts?

They also let us know that the shadows are going to try and keep Shinpei alive now, which makes me curious as to how the looping aspect of the show is going to be important anymore if they're just not going to kill him now.

Beautiful episode the whole way through. I did not expect to have Ushio as part of the main cast, but it seems like she'll be a frequent appearance in future loops. Still up in the air as to whether she's the real one or not, but I can only imagine it's a shadow since the original Ushio would understand the significance of walking around after her funeral. It only makes sense that would be the shadow, copied before she died.

Only a couple things bothered me: The tone, first and foremost. When dealing with really sensitive subject matter like a dead sister, it played a lot of stuff off for gags. Seemed like it should be something more significant, having your dead relative show up at her beloved festival, but beyond the beach scene it wasn't treated with the kind of weight I would expect. I suppose this isn't such a big deal though, since the MC is used to dealing with doppelgangers by this point.
Secondly the pacing seems way off. There were at least three huge twists in this episode that I expect in any other series would be saved until the halfway point. Things like Ushio showing up, the shadows laying out their motivations, and the Dale Cooper character making her entrance as an ally. I have to wonder what they will do for another 20 episodes at this rate.
Finally it was jarring the way the audio design handled her shotgun. For something with the cultural impression of a shotgun racking, they only played sound for ejecting the shell and not for pumping the new one in. But that's me just nitpicking. I love this series.

I was enjoying this show up until this episode. Really, the success of Summertime Render depends entirely how how keen the protagonist is at uncovering the mystery. If he drags his feet like Subaru from Re:Zero or Takemichi from Tokyo Revengers, then this could be a tedious exercise. In most of the first 3 episodes, the protagonist seems like he has a head on top of those shoulders, and is at least trying to make some kind of coherent response. This episode is a bit different.

First of all, it doesn't make sense for him to not initially think Ushio must be a shadow before he chased after her. Second, after deciding that Ushio acts genuinely, it doesn't at all make sense for him to get flustered and shy about it and want to hide Ushio from the rest of the group. That seems counterproductive. One would think that either he decides that she's a shadow, and stay the hell away. Or he decides that she isn't a shadow, in which she could be a valuable resource to the group.

It's not the tone that bothers me, but the irrationality of inserting some dumb romance cliche at a key moment, you know where the MC acts dense and doesn't properly express his feelings. He could have gotten more information from Ushio by simply stating the facts and the timeline and gotten her response.

When the shadows decided not to kill him, I wondered that even after they "finish what they wanted to do", whether his death could still bring them back. Since there's no obvious sunset to his ability. But at least the shadows are approaching this strategically, unlike MC thinking with his dick. If he doesn't get his act together I'm rooting for the shadows.

Is there actually some sane reason why MC decides to hide the existence of this mystery from his ally, to the extent of lying to her? (Something which could easily get her killed if she fails to understand something she could have understood otherwise.) Because he's coming across to me as a complete nutcase, and I don't think that's the intention.

What are you talking about? he didn’t decide ushio is his ally yet bro just met her, if you’re refering to her because mc told his friends and mio already about the shadows

Mio. She starts to talk to Mio over the phone, and he snatches it from her and tells Mio it can't be Ushio, and I'm going "WHY? WHY? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT? ARE YOU INSANE?"

did you see mio’s reaction to seeing ushio? she thinks she is a monster because duh she learned that shadows copy the real human and kill them, how do you suppose if shinpei just told her without preparation that ushio came back to life as a shadow? shinpei is the type of person that gathers info before bursting in a situation, everything can happen in the festival especially since there’s a lot of people and the enemy can be among them, he said last episode that he doesn’t trust his friend sou 100% yet so how do you expect him to just drop the bomb that ushio is alive in the middle of a festival in front of his friends? he had to calmly assess the situation and think of something that why he told ushio that he will come back for her later

Definitely a reckless move from Shin to run up on Ushio like that. He figured out it was a shadow pretty quickly (at least we can assume she is) but was lucky that her "programming" is somehow messed up. Emotions and such tho so I can't blame him. And I guess he couldn't tell Mio over the phone since redhead big sis there doesn't know about the shadows yet. Quite the end half of the ep tho. I wonder if Mio shadow is dead dead at this point? But rly at this point I figure we have to get a reset. So perhaps Shin will convince Hizuru to shoot him or maybe he'll just take the gun and do it himself idk.

Ushio returns as something else than a brutal shadow, she is rather sweet.
While Mio's shadow is a mass murderous demon, maybe she is gone for good now.

They figured out that Shinpei better not dies when they want to complete their plan.
I hope Shinpei's evil shadow won't cause more harm to everyone, they are really scary.

Holy fucking shit, they just keep on delivering.

Shadow or not, Ushio's really cute. Didn't think Shinpie would again be captured by Mio's shadow. Those shadows are merciless, I think we now kind of know what they are trying to do, they want to get their mother back or something?

I couldn't believe the shadows figured out Shinpie had the return by death ability, that just made everything even more difficult. One thing I'm glad of is that the shadow's can actually be killed, dunno if Mio's shadow will just come back again or not but it was good seeing it's brains blown out. Big titty mommy is here for rescue.

5/5.

Also lmao look at this, nice vote counts

A lot has happened but I still know very little. Is ukio malfunctioning as a shadow? How many people have been replaced by shadows? What the heck does their "mother" want? Why are they so OP? Hopefully that scientist lady can drop some answers.

So it looks like the Shadow Ushio is indeed different than her brethrens. Can't wait to learn more about her.

Last episode and first half of this one were a bit slow and focussed on the characters, but second half went crazy.

I was instantly annoyed at Shinpei for thinking he should hold everyone back from getting to meet Ushio--though a Shadow--but still very much herself and different from all other Shadows. He claimed it was to protect Mio's mental, but it also seemed just a hair selfish...

Shinpei was copied by that little girl. Why didn't he remember that?!?! Sucks for him, truthfully (especially now that he's gone and gotten his arm brutally broken), but this is also good! Adding some information to the storyline.

Like, "Mother is almost awoken?" And the black-haired glasses lady. What does she know about these things?

Okay ngl, I'm not a fan of Ushio. I almost hated this episode until that last part happened. I'm guessing this Shadow Ushio is the one that Shadow Mio is called a "traitor." Must be a Shadow with incomplete memories

All in all the brutality of the show is appropriate since we know that our heroes are fighting monsters that have both body and strength to use. Besides that. it adds spiciness. Hopefully soon we'll know more about our huntress in glasses as Shinpei remains alive in this thread of events and now when his time travel disguise is blown those to unite to sort the ongoing shit quickly.

Poor So, he was desperately good in his confession, too bad his calm sister already spoiled the ending.

Time skips, flashbacks and rewinding.. Its a bit heavy but we finally getting somewhere. I wonder if that really is the real Ushio. They made her extremely likable.

Considering there are two of the "one-of-a-kind" necklaces, this Ushio almost has to be a Shadow. The Shadows before copied every thing of the originals in the previous episodes, down to the items on their body and in their pockets. The only question that remains now is why, unlike with Mio and Tetsu, Ushio doesn't realize she's a Shadow.

I mean, I guess it is possible that the Shadow Ushio was who was killed, and the Real Ushio was stashed away somewhere for the interim until she washed up during the festival? It's not impossible at least, I don't think. It just seems more likely that the current Ushio is a Shadow.

Boob-lady to the rescue! Unless she has special bullets, I guess the Shadows aren't as "immortal" as I was thinking they'd be.

Anyway, I feel like my entire first two paragraphs just became meaningless, lol... I'm not going to bother deleting them though.

My only other thought at the moment is: These Shadows are pretty spooky. It was terrifying to think they were about to keep Shin alive while his Shadow wandered around just to keep him from looping. That is some pretty high-level intelligence that, as far as I know, other series with this similar premise haven't touched on. Depending on how the story pans out, this might end up being some serious nightmare fuel at some point down the line.

I totally thought we'll go through a cliché-type of a plot and already prepared a few oucomes, theories and assumptions BUT since the plot told us the shadows know that looping exists I'm really confused in a positive way. Can't wait to watch next episodes since I'm curious how they're going to introduce the rest of the story to us and how many plot holes are we going to have. Enjoy the episodes, guys! ♥

That Mio shadow is really weird with this behavior if she's not controlled to kill the other ones, though I should have expected this but it wasn't the real Shinpei since he got copied when he visited Shiori's house and now that he got copied once again they know about all his memories and especially the time loop (which is actually the most suspicious part of all these events), though there's the big boobs foreigner girl of course and she can kill the shadows with her weapons, good thing.
