I’m so used to Fujimoto chaotic way of storytelling that I just accept anything he throws at me by default. But I just really like his drawing of expression and his optimistic view even in the worst case. The tribute to Kyoto ani was also very pleasant.

Yeah, I liked it. But I wonder how I'd feel if I didn't know it was a Kyoani tribute going in.

note that i havent read all the previous comments yet , so i dont know if anyone has posted these things yet , but here are my thoughts about this one-shot :

plot holes and other things :

page 28 : the other girl didnt even go to school , but she still gets her graduation paper ? in these corona virus days , you can study from home , do test from home , and graduate from home ?

page 55 : the shueisha editor is a l0licon ped0 , he invites 2 under-age girls into his office , lol .

page 69 :
- i want to go to an art college .
- what ? how is that even possible ? you didnt go to school . you didnt graduate high-school .

page 73 : where are her 20+ assisstants ? drawing manga for weekly shonen jump aka weekly shonen dump , without 20+ assisstants , is suicide , because the dead-lines and the editors will over-work you to death , lol .

page 80 : breaking news : midday today , an editor began attacking mangaka-s with an axe-like tool , and he axed their manga-s and gave them crappy endings , lol .

page 87 : "1 single man killed 12 and injured 3 with 1 single axe" , yeah , these numbers are unbelieve-able , unless these 15 students were just standing still so the criminal could hurt them . how about running away , or ganging up on him ?

explaining of the last part of this one-shot , lol :
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness .

- TVA : Appears to be a standard sequence violation. Branch is growing
at a stable rate and slope. Variant identified. On behalf of the Time Variance Authority, I hereby arrest you
for crimes against the Sacred Timeline.

contradicted lines :
- page 109 : ... a pointed tool he had found in the art-practice building inside the school ...
- page 117 : ... i was on my run outside the school , i saw the dude with a weapon entering the school ...

page 129 : why did the other girl buy six volume 1 and three volume 2 ?

last page : so i guess shonen dump 's editors want to send this message to their mangaka-s : even if your parent is dead , or someone closed to you is dead , you still have to work again in the very next day to meet the dead-line with shonen dump , lol .

I don't know if you realized, but that ending was not a multiverse sort of thing but more of Fujino thinking a what-if scenario because of regret.

Also, the ending I feel is actually about the mangaka remembering why she loved to draw manga in the first place.

After some slight rereading of the whole stuff, I can say that Look Back is probably the best manga I have read in a long while. This is the first Fujimoto work I've ever read, which is good since I know Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man will be much more crazier than this.

8/10 couldn't ask for more

This one-shot is a honorable tribute to the victims of the KyoAni massacre. Even though it really awakens mournful emotions to me as reader, it will be remembered as a well written piece of art. Not only thinking about what would be if, but how to go on and not looking back, but looking forward to the future, no matter what happens, made this work absolutely unique in case of story telling.

The more I thought about this one-shot, the more I liked it. My first manga from Fujimoto, and what a nice one. The CSM references seem cool too (even without reading it, I can understand from comments)

I'm confused as to what that alternate reality was, and I first thought they were boys until I saw Fujino's skirt.
It was sweet, but shockingly depressing after Kyomoto died. The competitiveness and aspiring of one another was intriguing though, along with Fujino's conflicting feelings towards manga even though she ended up continuing after Kyomoto's death. 7/10, I think, but I'm lost at what exactly occurs after her death...

Fujimoto's One-Shots are really good.

This was a great one shot. Author tried to show that we all have regrets but we can't change what is done so we should keep moving forward. Full title of this one shot defines the story "Don't Look Back in Anger".

Can any one explain the story after the death of Kyomoto and ripping the Manga strip I didn't understand like time is turned back they didn't meet on that day then she save her on that incident in which she should have died I am prity confused

that sequence when there is like alternate timeline is just in kyomoto's head when she was alive. The reason is because kyomoto idolize fujino that much so she begins to write a manga strip about fujino saving her life. hence the manga strip title "look back". it is paralel to the one shot title itself.

so basically it's just a flashback. thats why when fujino open the door, there is just an empty room. cuz she dieded.

i guess this mangaka fujimoto is a mas0chist , so he loves sadi$t , strong-minded girls , like the main girl in this one-shot , lol .

and this mangaka graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design , so this one-shot involves an art school .

and i guess he likes this kind of plot : some criminals use some weapons to threaten some students .

this plot appears in several one-shots of this mangaka .

If you're a person that's used to praise of others and then suddenly hits the realization that you aren't the only one who's great at it makes you really frustrated sometimes, and this is a great reminder of that. Not only does this relay the message of humility, but also compassion and love. One should always stop and look back at what made you do something in the first place because life still goes on, but that reason remains. It's just so beautiful and I respect this oneshot for that. Thank you for reminding me to stop and reminisce the choices I made.

I'll tell one thing: i really wasnt expecting for such moving story. What a good one-shot!

Here i got to feel way more emotions than in chainsawman. And the last pages... It all made remember some of the good early Makoto Shinkai movies (5 cmm per second).

Anyway, i hoping for the author make more of these.

Bit confused about the alt timeline bit with the comic strip that was ripped up not so much as the what if scenario but the fact that she rips up the manga panel and the top half goes under the door unless it’s supposed to be seen as she rips the manga panel up instead of drops it.

Then there’s the panel that shows what about in the what if timeline but i guess she drew that while that scenario was going on in her head ?

Is this KyoAni inspired?

A sort of tribute to the artist’s and to highlight what was lost 2 years ago ?
No, it has nothing to do with kyoani. It's an integration of fantasy into an otherwise realistic story. The ripped up manga panel travels into an alternate timeline, where kyomoto and the MC never met. After Kyomoto is saved, the panel she draws travels back into the main timeline. It's a depiction of regret and grief that well-written and perfectly captures the feeling, though a bit complex so some ppl don't understand as easily

Since this anime got announced, I decided to reread this and completely forgot about both characters being female again since the beginning, haha.

The potential supernatural sense of alternate reality or rather that coincidentally ripped panel page being similar to reality being weird...

Fujino's imagination of what if she saved her by chance without meeting like they originally did yet still end up as friends and duo mangaka is bittersweet.
