It's been a while since I read Dororo so I went back and ready the whole manga again. Everything up to episode 1 is true to the manga minus some minor changes. Episode 2 tho... Looks like the director is changing the order of which demon Hyakkimaru encounters. Half of Bandai's original manga arc weren't included in this episode and there were some major changes. Hmmmm. I'm still looking forward to seeing how this adaptation of Dororo plays out. Hopefully with a better and more cohesive ending than the manga?

So Hyakkimaru is Daredevil without hearing but can see souls...Does he have a sense of taste though?

I wonder how Hyakkimaru learned how to write...

Loving the old school animation. And seeing how Hyakkimaru reacts to people is going to be great to see in this series to know who is a threat and who is not. And Hyakkimaru gains a new part of his body every time he slays a demon. The question though is what part of him will he receive last? His vocal chords or his sense of sight? Don't spoil me Dororo readers!

I really like overall vibe and feelings in the series, but story-wise i see lots of plot holes in it!
well he lost his organs(48 org in manga) and yet he lives!, ok that must be sort of a magic! but why and how was he eating food? how does he move his hands? not the sword part but fingers? whats up with this demons? they were strong and magical enough to save a village from starvation ,war diseases Drought! and yet they r so weak and an organ-less boy kills them so ezly?

Great episode yet again, I’m really liking the approach to this show by Studio MAPPA so far!

Classical soundtracks and that archaic but gold animation quality is absolutely amazing! Seeing more liveliness from Dororo was nice to watch but sadly Hyakkumaru can’t interact with him/her. We, also, get to meet the old blind monk again and he’s pretty cool so far. More importantly, Hyakkurmaru has now regained back his backbone, or so by the looks of it, but why exactly the pain. Moreover, considering how the monk reacted, I’m sure there’s more to it that I’m looking forward to know in the coming episodes. It was very obvious that the chief would be the demon, thanks to the narrator early on and Hyakkumaru’s actions, but I certainly thought the being with the huge head would’ve played a bigger role during the fight than just acting as a diversion there. Got to say though, the demon was really weak. When she came back to her original form and was about to unleash something, I for sure expected a transformation into a more hideous appearance. She seemed to know a bit about Hyakkumaru too and one of the statues in the Hall of Hell game crashing down, so surely she must have been one of the twelve. I wonder if the demon from the last episode was among the twelve too or was Dororo’s thinking there just a little throw off.

Definitely looking forward to more of this and hoping it retains its excellence throughout!

The opening them doesn't match the series at all and I'm not a fan of the ending theme either but the anime itself seems really interesting so far.

Loving this so far!

Seems like Hyakkimaru receives body functions each time he slays a demon, wich makes me wonder if he wil be able to talk eventually. Not sure if i want him to be able too, Hyakkimaru not being able to see/hear and talk adds its flavor.

Nice episode. They slayed another monster. I'm guessing he's getting back his nervous system or maybe body skins.
Anyway I think it's about time to update the character image in DB.

My guess is that since Hiakkimaru's dad made a deal with the demons to guarantee the prosperity of his lands, as the demons die the protection they granted him weakens and more misfortune befalls him.

This is quite a plausible idea. I am forgetting how complex some works are.

Only old mangas like Dororo have complex notions. Nowadays plots are too convienent and too shallow.

btw, I really dig these kind of stories. This is unique in its own way. I am tempted to watch the 1969 anime adaptation but I won't just for the sake of animation difference. Otherwise I could not wait one week for the next one. lol

Yeah, which is why I am forgetting that, since many authors today prefer not to work thoroughly on the setting.

felt very rushed somehow. imo this epi's story should've been two episodes long. with more time spent of building up the mystery and making it more scary.

I've been a member for ages, but I've never posted before(mostly was just keeping track of my anime watching). I was just so disappointed with the remake of this series that everyone seems to like so much that I had to give my opinion.

Firstly, I expected they would modernize the art, but the look of the main characters is awful! Dororo now looks and sounds completely like a girl, and Hyakkimaru looks frail and effeminate and has a girly face(even after it's no longer a mask). The art style seems like they tried to make Tezuka art looks like Miyazaki art. ..the body shapes, the facial features... Some random children passed by who looked like they could've just stepped off the Catbus. WTF? I'm watching Dororo here, not Totoro!

Secondly, it's not nearly as spooky, creepy, or suspenseful as the old b&w series. It should look more so, being new and in color, but it's not. They show actual red blood, and Hyakkimaru without skin, but it hardly seems creepy, just average stuff by today's standards. We don't get Kagemitsu's cruel response upon seeing his disabled baby

They seem to be skimming through parts of the story to move it along. They don't really need to. New series has only 3 episodes fewer than old(new 23/old 26). Too much speed takes away the suspense.

I really like this kind of story. I was expecting so much more from this remake. The material was there, they just haven't used it as well as I'd hoped. I'll try it for a few more episodes I guess

What's so annoying about Dororo? I don't get it. Can't the kid be energetic/ hyperactive? Imagine if you were talking to someone who doesn't answer you back. Oh... but shut-in weeaboos avoid any type of social interaction. Right. Now I get it why they find Dororo annoying.

Interesting episode, the series overall has a pretty unique feeling to it. Curious how it will change once he can speak.

The original is 50 years old. Crazy to think about.

So based on the few chapters I read before watching this, they're taking quite a few liberties with the story and characters. And while I thought this episode was good on its own, its kinda disappointing considering how entertaining the Bandai arc was in the manga with the entire village involved and the interactions between Dororo and Hyakkimaru.
It seems like this adaptation its going to be its own thing, hope it goes well.

The subs made by westerners are not exactly... the best source of contextually correct information. One time Dororo was called a boy this episode was by the demon, and subtitles properly addressed it. People seem to have started dividing whether Dororo would turn out to be a boy or a girl. The character is voiced by a ~12 year girl, if anything.

despite public belief pretty often. Unless you were a coal miner or similar you would probably wash at least once a week. About not being able to see he gets his eye after defeating one of the monsters I think it was episode 6 of the original anime or something so he can see at that point. I do agree that at first this can be the case, but... after he starts getting some organs like eyes you cannot say it is the case. Also it is clear the end was rushed and they made this big reveal just to have a plot twist and was not planned in advance.

Another good episode. I like the way Hyakkimaru "sees", and Dororo is growing a bit on me too. And well, yes, appearances can be misleading so it was a nice message/theme for this one.

And I thought that old man/priest was the one who rescued Hyakkimaru as a baby, and trained him, but it seems it wasn't him. Well, more to look forward to I guess. I'm a bit confused about what body part he got back this time though. And I could only think of Bandai Namco with the name of that demon. lol

No, me too. I guess that explains why I keep getting this feeling like I have seen this series before, while clearly it is the first time for me. Maybe it's the atmosphere, the soundtrack, and/or the nuance that gives off a vibe similar to how impactful Naruto was back then in my childhood...

Very interesting episode. I'm really liking the atmosphere and plot so far. Not to mention that the use of the OST helps a lot during some scenes.

Bandai being a demon was quite predictable, being honest but its fight against Hyakkimaru was something really nice to watch.

The blind monk seems to be a very interesting character so far. I hope he stays with the main duo for a while during the next episodes.

Everything about Dororo so far is on point. Opening, music and art are excellent. This second episode moved the story along nicely without getting bogged down by "soap opera" writing. Even the foreshadowing is subtle.

During the battle with the demon Dororo sees Hyakkimaru get injured. Dororo then worriedly wonders, "Doesn't that hurt?" After the demon is defeated it appears Hyakkimaru regains his central nervous system. This would be the reason he did not feel his wounds during the battle.
