Well, an enjoyable anime. I think I would have enjoyed more if mr.nice guy (hehe) wasn't somewhat boring (just like me xD).
A good thing is that he wasn't the type to panic when a girl was close to him or touched him, some girls even kissed him and he didn't panic hehe ^^
Oh, I'm not into overpowered MCs, but as long as they aren't stuck-up overpowered MCs I'm ok with it. ^^ (I prefer the "boring" ones, If I were to choose between those two).
If this was 50 episodes long, I'd probably give it a 9/10. The exploration moments remind me of the first time I played mmorpg, where you'd have to find things out by yourself, travelling to unknown places, making/crafting new potions/weapons. It was a lot of fun. This series was clearly written to be a long running show, shame it only got 12 episodes.
Also bonus point for MC Satoo to visit the pleasure quarter and actually got to the act.. ah also acting like himself whether in real life or in the isekais, no fake tough personality because he's strong now unlike his real life counterpart.
Dame Nano-desu!
Sore loser. Sign the damn paper.
SUGOI! DAT NANA OPPAI!
Oh shit! She took off her shirt.
DAMN YOU ARISA! Dat Nana pantsu.
Satou going for Nana oppai!
Damn you Arisa. Cockblocking Satou and best girl.
Nana oppai.
Mia you cockblock.
LAWD! Dat Nana back. Dat Nana face.
Satou wakes up with the harem on him.
Lucky Mia with Nana's oppai in her face.
Lulu kawaii.
Nana oppai activation.
And that was the end. It was ok. OP song too good.
If you see that my post is exactly 1 month old (or more) from when it was posted... Don't waste your time, especially when you want to reply with something petty & insignificant. Assume that I've moved on (because I have).
It's so sad to see how hated this series is because "omg satoo is op, so interesting" or "why didn't he release his slaves, he's a self insert and a misogynist!!!" or "why he no hab da sweet character development juiceee??!!??"
I want to quote IGK's review on this series, I personally find it to be completely logical
The measure of an individual is what one does when in possession of true power. The greater one's power, the more options one has at one's disposal; choosing the path that benefits the greatest possible number is the noblest path when many alternatives are available, especially paths focused purely on oneself. Satou is someone who takes the high road and never strays from it.
(This review is being written in response to a flood of negative reviews that completely misrepresent Death March. I am so displeased by the rating that I set up a MAL account just to write this.)
When we acknowledge that the isekai genre has been saturated, to say the least, we need to look for differentiating factors. A key point of differentiation is the viewpoint from which the protagonist approaches the new world to which he has been spirited away. The majority of isekais take a youthful and user-centric lens: a gamer teen or a teen / young adult hikikomori. The viewpoints inherent in such a background are limited by the age and by the mindset that said protagonists bring to their worlds. Satou comes to his new world as a builder (one of the lead programmers) and as a working adult - Death March is an isekai where the Game Master is the protagonist.
Many isekais are focused on the leveling up aspect (I have fond memories of playing games like Legend of Mir 3 and grinding away). However, what if you accidentally started out at level 310? Death March shows Satou being the coach to his party, so to speak. It's one thing to be an edgy teen trying to perfect your levels, fighting to achieve top dog status; it's a completely different story to already be on the top of the dominance hierarchy and to instead nurture the growth of others. I was a swimming instructor in high school and predominantly had a lot of female students aged 4 to 12 - watching Satou nurture his crew is the embodiment of what it means to be a teacher. Giving them room to experiment, being ever-present to back them up, and always being ready to teach through example - Satou is a man, not a boy. If you cannot relate to the MC, reflect on that.
I picked up this anime last week when 3 episodes were available and the moment I was hooked was when it finally entered RPG mode and Satou started being a team leader. Thereafter I binged the entirety of the available manga and am now the proud owner of the 4 available light novels with the 5th pre-ordered.
I want to close this review by mentioning the unique focus Death March places on imbuing RPG dynamics continually throughout the narrative. There are isekais that will skew towards the fantasy element, leaving the RPG elements as a backdrop; in Death March, the game elements play a central role in how Satou interfaces with the world. Death March is very precise on roles, skills, title acquisitions, the continual use of the menu etc - a detail to be appreciated by gamers and devs. As someone who has been working in tech, I can appreciate the mindset that Satou brings to acquiring new skills. This is truly a dev's mind on display - we are always reminded that this is a technologist with a Game Master interface, interacting with a fantasy-like environment.
In my mind, this is a solid 8/10 anime for the new perspective that it brings to the isekai genre. Don't come here for depth; don't come here for romance. Watch Death March if you want to see how level grinding, skill development, and team development look like from a coach's perspective. Watch Death March if you want to a explore the [builder] mindset, rather than the [user] mindset. Watch Death March if you're interested in exploring the isekai-context question: [How should I act if I am already the most powerful?] rather than [How can I become the most powerful?]. For, if we have not considered the endgame, we are not prepared to commence the journey. Death March is the endgame that all future isekais should consider.
Go give his review an upvote (click on the Helpful button) if you like the series and agree with the review. I feel like most if not all the top reviews are completely misunderstanding the point of the series. It's a shame that the top reviews are all negative and none of them really hit the mark on why the show sucks. IGK's review brings a new perspective for the viewers who are just coming into the series, it's far more accurate than thinking Satoo is another Kirito knock off. -.-; the generalisation in the negative reviews is astounding.

I understand the episode count imposed a limit considering the amount of content that they can actually squeeze in compared to what is in the novel but hell the anime was boring as fuck. But then again, the MC only aim was to have fun, relax and hunt cooking ingredients for god sake Hahaha. Now that I think about it, a lot of the action was played down, cut short or... just wasn’t there? Agh I can’t remember clearly anymore but to hell with it. The show only aim is clearly to help spread the light novel so I take it they did achieve that. Sort of. Well, my local Kinokuniya bookstore did ran out of desumachi stock a few times over the past months. So there’s that.

Wow. That was a long rant I wrote hahaha. I must be pissed to hell. Anyway, to answer your question, I’m pretty sure you could just jump into vol 6 of the web novel. That would be vol 4 for the light novel I think.
That said, I’d recommend reading all over from the start of the WN. They left out some amazing scenes and you would get a better understanding of what happen and why anyway so there’s that too.
Wow what an unsatisfying ending. Like the hell was that last arc? It was so bad compared to the rest of the show, almost makes me wish I didn't stick to this show til the end.
In my opinion the show was kind of a mess and the different events never really flowed together that well, don't really know how to explain it. But all in all, the interactions with all the characters were enjoyable for what they were and them going more into the game aspect of the world with stuff like the titles and inventory was pretty cool to see.
Overall a pretty enjoyable yet mediocre experience. I'd give it one KiritoLookingMC/10
So, harem tropes, mediocre plot twists and fanservice aside, didn't they forget an important thing or two? Like, was he just aslepp or did he do the 101 of bad japanese work-environments, a.k.a. die of overworking and being reincarnated? Or maybe he joined the bandwagon of anime deep slumber, formerly known as coma? That was a rather big plot-point from beginning to end...
I think the worst part of this anime is that from the opening and the ending, I expected the party to being on a journey, heavy on SoL and traveling to one city to another.
buuut, even if the Op and Ed makes you think that this will be the main focus of the series, the journey starts at episode 9 (wtf). We get only 3 episodes of that, and boom, the anime is over.
Clearly the main cast should have been put on the road waaaay early.
I understand this is just a glorified trailer for the source material, but is just SO boring and unappealing.
The best:
* The opening was okey I guess?
The worst:
* The VA of the MC. Dear God, that was one of the worst voice acting I heard in years of anime, and I watched a lot of shit. Literally feel like everything he said was with the tone of a kid acting for a school play but even worse.
Quite a nice isekai anime I must say. Sometimes we never really get the reason to why or how the MC got in the world but you know for some anime it doesn't seem required. In general it was also more of a harem like touch so for those isekai harem fans out there it sure must have been great.
Myself found it a quite decent watch with lots of opportunities to expand the story further especially with such an open ending.
If there ever will be a sequel I'll be sure to watch it!
What a disappointing ending. I knew this was going to be an OP haram isekai when I started, but the world building was at least interesting for most of the series.
Also, it was odd that in the first episode right before he goes into the new world there is a big issue with an item dup bug being discovered in the game. The last big quest is one that requires 300 of the same item to be delivered. As things are looking impossible one of the characters even says the MC "is a cheater"... and yet the dup bug is never referenced or used.
Not sure what I just watched here.. a programmer ends up in an RPG world. But that's it? This "final" episode could have been just another day in the life of the main character. I felt no conclusion here. He didn't return to the normal world as I was expecting all along. No revelation about how he got there in the first place.
That aside, it was a pleasant enough story and Satou seemed like a trustworthy and maybe even virtuous hero, winning the battles along the way and helping others as he makes his way through this new world.
I didn't mind this anime, it was ok. One of the things that annoyed me the most is the amount of titles the protag was getting and using skills just once pretty much, while I like that the protag wasn't a moron or a D-head but I find that after episode 5 the story levels out and doesn't really progress much, I see why there hasn't been a season two.
It does have the classic save my life and now I am falling in love but never clearly shows off affection and ends with a cliffhanger on the romance side of the story.
There is also a bit of late character introductions as well that puts the series off a bit, I'd rather have all the stories characters introduced within the first few episodes unless there is going to be a clear sign or indication that there will be another season.
I didn't hate this series, but I didn't completely like it either. Having read the manga, this anime is definitely one of those series where it's way better to read than watch. They basically did 44 chapters in 12 episodes. Needless to say that a LOT was skipped over. I'm hoping that if we did get a second season, which I'm doubtful of, they'll perhaps backtrack and we'll see elements of the story from the earlier parts revised and somehow put into the new season.
The ending theme was definitely the highlight of the series.
Well, the truth was revealed, and so clearly.. Now he won't be in charge of town..
Friend of witches, hm.. Wonder, if these friend titles would be recognized by all members of these groups.. Well, probably not everyone, as some people will be evil and stuff.. But majorly?..
Some fanservice towards ends of series.. There wasn't as much before, it feels..
Overall, anime was pretty enjoyable for me personally.. Idea of skills was even exciting at times to see.. As it's kinda dreamful, how it can change the world around you and stuff, influence it.. Anime was pretty entertaining and easy to watch, and I'd certainly watch continuation, if they'd decide to make one.. For now - enjoyable watch.. ;P
Quite an uneventful open ending for this show, not exactly unexpected though. I enjoyed the first few episodes, but once the harm part started to take over, my enjoyment dropped a bit as well. Not really a show to remember unfortunately. 5/10
This show was so boring that it was one of the (admittedly many) reasons that I stopped watching anime as a whole for a while lol. Noticed I only had 2 episodes left though, so I slugged through them. The only good things about it were the OP/ED and a couple of the characters.
bledsoe60 said: Why was this episode called "A Trip to the Underworld..."? They never even hinted at the idea of going there in the episode
Yeah, that was my thought as well. I thought someone will die and they will have to go to the underworld to save them, AKA Gilgamesh's side story/13th story. Guess I was expecting too much from this anime right until the end lol.

I kept thinking that the story will end with him waking up from his sleep at his office. Apparently not lol.
Hello to anyone reading this message on this old anime. IM STILL WAITING S2. I just decided to re watch a few wow bc I really like the ending theme. Really that’s it I just randomly decided to watch the ending to see how it looked and the song stuck with me every since. So I come back to this anime every few months or so just to see Tema and Pochi. I just wanted to express my feelings (ikr eww). I just really connected to the characters more with the slaves I just want to see them in a better life really. I never would have imagined them being shown as animals yk it really stuck a chord within me. I just want to see them animated again. Ik IK I could read the manga which I’ll do later on but hope that by some miracle they announce a S2. Alr I have to wake up early and what I mean by that is in a few hours (what summer does to an MF) and sorry if you don’t understand this mess of a comment but it’s a mess that I understand.
Says I've completed the series, but an all honestly don't remember a bit of it, and I was watching a youtube anime recap, a forgettable anime I wished I remembered
Weirdly the first half with the demons was why better than the second which kinda frizzled out a bit...shame we will never get a conclusion to this as there's no more ...
One of the most boring shows I've watched. The fact it tries so hard to be an iyashikei slice of life while also going into serious moments makes it feel like it wasn't really either of those things. Satou is one of the most dull protagonists ever and his harem of underage women were not much better. Not to mention the production was consistently awful throughout.
3/10, there's definitely a reason I don't watch mediocre isekai often
