eh i'm not really sold on this yet, so far this series doesn't have anything besides the whole being cynical about the anime industry shtick to pique my interest. and i don't really like the MC yet either. i hope we'll get more insight on the characters later.

An alright animation and OST. I love the humor on this show. Although it seems to be a satirical about the anime industry, so can't take this seriously. Seems to be a fun ride, I'll gonna looking forward with this. And Chitose was so cute, the ending though "GAHAHAHAHA..." Gojou, *facepalm*

The CEO and producer were pretty funny. I like how they talk themselves into using Chitose, though she is a rookie and didn't even sing at the seiyu event. The producer claims he knows she's a good singer by instinct.

I dunno what kind of anime is the MC participating in the first anime, but in the second and third anime she is voicing, those anime are isekai anime.
I also believe the MC hates LN's because she does not want to read books.
I like how ignorant the president is. He doesn't know about novels and light novels. In my current subs, the president said "so-called light novels" but actually he said "so-called light novel novel" (rainobe shousetsu). And he trusts Nabe-P too much.
But I'm still waiting for next episodes to really put this show in high regard.

I laugh at that pokemon Reference XD
I didn't notice that reference. But I noticed another Pokemon reference just after that quote. "Well done Chitose-kun! Heroine get!" In japanese, heroine get is "heroine getto daze" That's what Ash says when he catches a Pokemon.

Its like a much darker and cynical take on the same idea that Sore ga Seiyuu did.
I think Sore ga Seiyuu is also dark in a sense. It's just they downplayed the dark tones and turned it into comedy. The Sore ga Seiyuu MC barely even gets roles while our MC here is lucky, even getting a main role.

There's nothing to read in LNs. Most of LNs are identical and unless you find some REALLY good ones, its pointless to "read" them. That's like seriously reading 1$ romance novels sold at Walmart.

She knows LNs prioritize worshiping singular protagonist characters so any "side" role is genuinely way smaller than in stuff like manga adaptations or original projects. That's especially true for female characters. Not to mention there's a BIG overlap for characters in LNs, so a "female side role" usually is identical no matter the LN, thus for a starter VA it would be nigh impossible to use it as a stepping stone in terms of her popularity. Landinga more long-term role in a manga adaptation however is how a lot of famous VAs got popular in the first place. The only real way to use LN adaptation as a stepping stone is "main" roles. While Heroine still takes backseat to the protag wanking, VA who gets that role usually gains more popularity due to being typecast by otaku crowd as that character. And since role overlap is a real thing, being a "heroine" in one LN adaptation might lead being a heroine in more LN adaptations.

However LN adaptations also are generally low quality adverts(of already low quality material) that reuse famous VAs to be sold and are made to make a quick buck. Nobody in the industry views them as some sort of "work of art". Its all production committee deals, advertisement and revenue.
Likewise as this episode shows, LN adaptations are some of the most NEET-est aspects of otaku culture and it can easily become a very degrading experience.

So it makes sense that she is treating it as nothing but a stepping stone to the future.

Actually, this case is similar to "Your Name". The anime adaptation is already planned even before the source material gets released.
We may call this LN an elitist LN. An LN mocking another LN.
Moreover, this LN is not your typical generic moe x isekai x adventure x harem LN.

@Fai So it means she got bored reading the same kind of LN over and over again. But I'm excited for next episode on how she will voice a tsundere role.

Its not unusual for an anime original work to be adapted into other formats.
Also it is not unusual for a work to mock the very industry it is in. This does mock anime industry and otaku culture too, not just LNs.
And even in terms of LNS, Konosuba exists as a parody of everything wrong with LNs.

Ironically, this is the question I want to ask to Diomedea themselves. Just... Why?
Most of LN-adaptation anime they made have pretty bad sales.
Anyway, Mondaiji-tachi 2nd Season when??!

Either way, I hope this one sells well, because I really like it, tho that worries me since most anime that I like will never sell. x/

Watari Wataru's work really felt here.
Edgy and "bad" personality through out the characters.

Interesting story, and i need more satire. It's already offend LN + idol, pfftt...

Still, i doubt it will sell well/having good rating, biggest flaw = standard character design. Chitose is cute, sure. But she isn't exceptional.

Just look at the cover, another anime about cute girls doing cute things?

Well... I hope i'm wrong.

Before you begin viewing, I thought it would be the anime yet another, in a comic sauce, but after the first few minutes, I realized how cynical narration; but towards the end it became a surreal kind of comedy out of place, as if they would take the piss the viewer, who knows! I'm curious to see the next episode, to see if it is really serious or a big bullshit this anime. Drawings and animations, very good, good quality sets.

This has serious potential. It's pretty ruthless while still managing to keep a lighthearted tone throughout. I also like how the characters are kinda "bitchy" and have distinct attitudes; I can only imagine the passive aggressive crap that goes down in the real-life productions these are based on.

I'm hoping things get a little funnier, since the comedy here was hit or miss, but I'm pretty sure this'll remain interesting (though probably not Shirobako-level greatness). Always appreciate getting some insight into the industry with shows like these.

I really like the subtleness and the tameness of the fanservice that it's difficult to notice it. But some of it is subpar I'm confused if they are really trying to mix some fanservice.. But I know it exists because of the deliberate and awkward camera angles that shouts "It's fanservice time" The fanservice can't be noticed if you don't want to look about it.
I hope this show will be ,more "hypocritical" by actually forming a newbie idol seiyuu group irl, like Earphones.
Fun trivia: the voice of the MC voices Mumei of Kabaneri and the voice of another major character voices Mikasa of AoT.

Which part?

For the characters, they just all seem like really terrible people. The blonde girl almost seemed nice for like half-a-second and then stopped. Everyone else seems irredeemably conceited.

The tone of the show seems to be cynical for cynicism's sake. It's an endless stream of taking pot shots at it's own industry while providing nothing in return.

It's pretty easy to see why some of the people here like it though. That same group of people who stick around the community while constantly spouting how all Anime is terrible are bound to love this show. Which I know sounds about hypocritical after my comment about SNAFU, but it had that exact same bitter tone of cynicism I absolutly can't stand.

Realistic =/= Terrible
Just because they don't conform to trashy anime industry tropes and act like real people do in their roles, does not make them 'terible. The show does brilliant job at showing the contrast between "marketable facade" characters put on and their real human and realistic selves.

Newsflash: most of "nice moe" anime characters are unrealistic as all hell and nobody acts that way in real life, especially in positions like the ones the characters are in.
You are angry? that most of characters in this show are corporate consummer focused egotistic assholes? Newsflash, so are most of corporate entertainment industries, especially anime market.

The tone of the show seems to be cynical for cynicism's sake. It's an endless stream of taking pot shots at it's own industry while providing nothing in return.

The industry deserves everything taking shots at it. It is rotten to the core and twisted to pander and milk the NEET audience. It has mutated and changed and adapted to cater to VERY specific needs and VERY specific audience and not many shows try to break the mold. Displaying how industry is and calling industry out of it is nothing wrong.

Cynnical for cynicism sake would be if they invented things. So far its all in line with how real industry acts. The executives portrayed here might as well be this corporate tool. albeit they are still way too nice and not business-oriented enough to match this dude exactly..

It's pretty easy to see why some of the people here like it though. "they dared to criticize the otaku-targeted marketing that I bought into, so it is bad" is not a criticism.

This is pretty much spot on with how the industry regards itself and markets itself. All this needs to do to be 1:1 with reality is to have a subplot where the managers try to convince the MC to star in an adult video like it happens to most of idol culture victims(hell we almost got that far already with the LN author trying to basically buy them). Or some character being driven to suicide by her peers because she happened to be attracted to same sex.

This show does not sugarcoat or pretend anime market is some "wonderland". This show shows what is behind all that PR.

All this bad mouthing about anime, light novels and seiyû was good to my ears. Apart from that, nothing interesting.

And of course, I am with the long-blue-haired woman: not everyone actress should need to parade as an idol nowadays. (one of the 90s things that the 2000s exacerbated too much)

3/5 The drawings style makes the characters look like babies though.

Welcome to reality where people say terrible things to other people and things. And Nabe-P and the Prez are not terrible people. They are positive-minded people.
The tone of the show seems to be cynical for cynicism's sake. It's an endless stream of taking pot shots at it's own industry while providing nothing in return.
acknowledging the problem is a big contribution to the industry. Nobody improves if nobody raises their voice, and this anime makes that voice and it's quite loud that whiny otakus could hate this anime and thus risking sales. I hope wataru fanboys will bail out because of the potential loss due to the potential boycott.

That's the thing though. They make fun of trashy industry tropes but still rely on them. I mean look at the character designs (they could've gone with more muted colors like Hyouka) and older brother. The source is even a lightnovel.

I can't see this cynicism as being wholly honest like that. It just comes off as pretentious in a way.

Not saying the show's bad btw. Quite enjoy it. It's just that they're not really sticking to their guns in term of message.

Also drawing the LN author as some stereotypical fat dude kind of pissed me off. Those guys work pretty hard. In fact, most VN writers have gone down the road of LN writers because the medium of storytelling alone is getting them attention. Like you don't need a bunch of pictures, voice acting and programming experience to get your story out there. Calling them nonames that want to have a part in the industry is disgusting since they're usually churning out good content. You also need a degree of social competence to deal with editors and get the name of your book out there, so I don't even think LN authors are stuttering blumbering idiots who can't even talk to a seiyuu.
