That wasn't bad at all, In fact that was quite a decent start.

The world seems interesting and as a prologue this episode was quite good.
The animation and fights look great and even the CG wasn't bad at all.
That dragon was so cool, The eyes reminded me of Sauron XD

I might buy the game later xD

The art in this show looks amazing. Poor Alisha that she had to lose her comrades due to a cyclone which somehow awakes a dragon (I don't know but it sounds kind of cool).

It is a nice prologue. Can't wait for the show to properly start (OP song was amazing).

So this is new and not a continuation of the prologue? Ufotable never fails to impress when it comes to blending CG its absolutely beautiful.I never expected them pulling off a UBW kind of episode at first.I can't wait to see how they'll use armatization(Similar to magi's djinn equip).

I'm glad Ufotable is resuming this after the special they released a couple of year ago, because we already got a sample of the awesome fight scenes. with Alisha's spear fighting. We can always expect top notch quality animation from them.

Too bad tragedy has struck already for the minor characters accompanying Alisha. They seemed interesting enough in their own right--that is, for such a small role in the short amount of time that they appeared.

The game is definitely worth the $20, although it is probably one of the weaker titles in terms of Tales games. Not sure if you've played any of them, but they are all relatively fun for the most part. I didn't find the story to be that great though, but hopefully people enjoy the anime. Ufotable always handles Tales very well.
Anime will have a different story apparently, so we can both pray and hope it's better than the game.

Better be, cause the game's story was ehhhhhhh

Well. From the beginning up until the end of the opening, I felt like an extremely excited child. I absolutely loved the game, despite the grief it gets from both fans of the series and those who happen to come across it. Though whether that says much coming from someone that tends to enjoy anything, I'm not sure.

It was good to see some of the events that Alisha to get involved. Perhaps this will keep those who were annoyed with her comparatively lack of appearance in the game at bay...

And whilst I was very fond of the original Opening, by no means do I mind this one. It was very cool.

Ah... And glad to see that others were just as confused by the appearance of Velvet. I am interested in seeing if she'll somehow actually be in the series by some means or another, or if she's there for the sake of Berseria. Though I suppose I don't mind regardless. I find the sight interesting.

I feel like I had something more to say, but I suppose I've more or less gotten the point across... In any case, I'm really looking forward to the next episode and seeing everyone.

If it was the actual first episode, I would have been disappointed... it felt awfully choppy, bouncing around to different scenes a bit too much in a way that felt more like a flashback than actual storytelling. I guess it's okay as a prologue, though I wish as a prologue it focused on some other character besides Alisha since she isn't even with the main group for a majority of the time in the game. I was hoping if there would be a prologue, then it'd be focused on Sorey and Mikleo as kids since one of the Zestiria artbooks had ufotable art of them in childhood, and I have a massive weakness for characters with childhood arcs ._.

If I were to do a prologue with Alisha, I'd probably write it where I'd introduce her as a little girl discovering the Celestial Record for the first time and then focus on her without having so many random side characters who do nothing for the story beside add unnecessary angst for her. Maybe show her running around as a little girl, exploring libraries with her interest in ruins and history blossom. It'd give her a better purpose in seeking out more ruins and have a legitimate interest in history than what this prologue showed ((and be more true to the personality she had in the game)). The disasters in the land could be referred to as something she hears about, but at a distance, maybe more like in the beginning of SnK when you see the Survey Corps coming home injured and distraught rather than starting off with the titan attack. That way, you know there's a lot of urgent and terrible things going on, but it's not in your face yet. I always saw Alisha as a character driven more by passion than by tragedy, so the prologue didn't really do her justice, imo, and it'd fit the "mood" of the game's story/setting better.

I personally enjoyed the game. It's not as good as other Tales games but it's not as terrible as what some people make it out to be, either. One thing, though, is I think Zestiria was mostly meant as a throwback to the days of simpler fantasy RPGs since it feels more like the older games than the recent games of the series in terms of plot and character development. It's definitely simpler and less angsty/edgy than what the Xillia games had. I kind of liked that about it tbh.

I mean, I was like - "whaaa are they getting to Pixar level water animation?!...". Beautiful. :)

The water is a definite step up from UBW's mercury water/skeletons, yeah.

Too bad that was at the ost of the rest of CGI looking bad. Seeing very nice water effects running in location with buildings made out of cardboard was surreal.

May quite possibly have a better story than the game lol.. tieing in aspects of Berseria with Velvet is probably to build up hype for the upcoming game, or may well be related entirely as they are both set in the same world, just vastly different timelines. Hoping Alisha will have more of a role in this anime than the game :/

My review for this prologue is up now.

I haven't been paying attention to the "Tales of" series since the release of Vesperia so I got really excited to check this out. Honestly? I greatly enjoyed all 20 minutes.

The animation and fighting scenes absolutely blew me away.
I'm really liking where the plot is directing itself by making this big upcoming threat really feel terrifying. I wasn't expecting to feel for Alisha's character so quickly either.

I can't wait for the first episode to be released!

As a start, it's not as exciting as I thought, but I have to put in mind that this game, I do not know anything, then everything I've seen, I have very little understood us, if not the part of history that is often It was also used in many other stories as an excuse to start the plot, or that men being bad, have attracted to them despite of a higher amount and thus, it starts the slaughter of mankind. More than fair, the quality of the drawings, the opening ruined my surprise to discover all the new characters, how sad!

This prologue episode was so freaking intense. I honestly didn't expect the episode to end so tragically. ufotable's animation is simply amazing though, the way they use CG animation is incredible. I haven't played the game myself but I know that Alisha didn't appear much in it. Glad to see the prologue focused solely on her though. This is already an amazing start to the Tales of Zestiria anime, hope it keeps up this quality. OP is pretty damn good too, based FLOW. Velvet from Tales of Berseria appears in the OP as well which I didn't expect. It looks more than a cameo, I'm excited to find out what her role is~

So a lot of things were going on here and nothing was explained. We have some mysterious black mist which starts wrecking things and blows away an entire town, we have some mysterious bishoujo trying to kill Princess Alisha, a henchman of sorts of that bishoujo helps Alisha when a mysterious loli attacks her while the black fog was destroying things, everyone around Alisha dies except for her, a fiery dragon comes out of the black fog. And then we have the legend of the Shepherd who will be the one to pull the sword out of the stone and guide all the sheep to wherever. Well, they'll probably explain all of this shit later on. But for now, this episode was pretty confusing since I had no idea what was going on. What I do know, however, is that ufotable sure did some amazing stuff here. The visuals are amwazing. The fight between Alisha's team and the attacking ninjas was pretty damn cool. Dem explosions though. The loli vs the long eared whatever guy was so cool. Whatever becomes of the story, at least this will be a feast for the eyes.

It sorta confuses me that we supposedly have two proglogues; this entry and the 44 min OVA.

Literally no. This was all original and I would assume this happens before Sorey meets Alisha, which is why she went to the ruins afterwards. (If this were to be added like that in the story, but apparently this Tales of Z anime will be original from that of the game. So I think you're safe.

The show is not adapting the game(thankfully). It is (trying to) make an anime original storyline, which hopefully does not suck as much as the game.

Are you sure about that? I've been hearing this piece of info around and I've been wondering where this was said.
Remaking the story completely would put into question which storyline is the canonical one. This is especially important as Berseria is a prequel set about 1000 years past. If there are conflicting story points between Zestiria's game and anime, players diving into Berseria would be kind of confused.

I'm hoping that they decide to stick to the same story, but add exposition and explanations for many things. They kind of did that here in this prologue, which would explain why Alisha was stranded in the ruins when Sorey found her.

I've been hearing that the anime will adapt the original story that the developers of the game wanted before the massive heroine shift between Alysha and Rose happened during the game's development. Not sure if true so take it as a grain of salt.

Oh boy, that'd be something. If they push Rose off as a side character, they'd have to push Dezel off as a side character as well. Those two have a lot of backstory, much more story content than Alisha.

God, I wish they would use the opening from the game. Probably not going to happen, since the anime is taking a different approach.. It's really good, though. Without the lyrics, the guitar riffs are sick.

The production is awesome, as expected of ufotable. This is CG done right.

I was hoping to see the MC in the end, but I guess it is called a prologue for a reason.

I know that X will be different from the current Zestiria timeline, but I would at least recommend people to watch the OVA to get some more details of the Zestiria world.
(also adding each other to their anime pages as "other" might help too.)

That aside, I never understood the hate that Zestiria got. I enjoyed the hell out of it and the characters, grant Sorey could have used a bit more work as a character. It's a very nice change of pace that Vesperia and Xillia/Xillia 2 (and I love those three games) gave us. Maybe it's because I'm a simple (also not very smart) man.

I also don't understand all this CGI hate people throw out at every sighting of it. The CGI in this was hardly terrible. If Berserk (2016) is the worst, then it'd be at the bottom of sea level. Most CGI I see that people complain about would be put around the base of to the middle of Mt. Everest. The tip of Everest would be for when we see the super godly CGI (the equivalent would be UFO's normal animation quality), which probably won't happen for a good amount of years.

Anyways, onto the the actual episode. That was quite something. I wasn't actually aware that this was the prologue episode so I was quite confused on what was going on. But with all the animes I've seen, the death flags for those knights were waving around everywhere. I was hoping I was wrong cause it would've been nice to see Alisha do her own things with her knights (since this was supposed to be separate from the game). :(

Where will the story really start for episode 1 then? How much of the game story will they keep/change? Where does Velvet come into all this? Will we see the other Berseria characters? WHAT IS GOING ON?!
