wtf happened between the first anime and this one ? the pacing is too fast :-/

good thing my library has the first 41 volumes of InuYasha so I can understand the transition between the two animes.

OMG!!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! Inuyasha in 2001 was one of the reason I started watching anime and I just noticed they actually completed it today LOL! I am so freaking happy! I thought they ended it back in 2004 giving it such a crappy ending, but now I will watch it come back to life. YAYA!

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S GOING ON.

Talk about not holding the audience's hand; they threw us right into the story. I'm surprised there wasn't even a recap.

It's been years since I last saw Inuyasha, on Adult Swim. So, I barely remember anything. Oh, well. I guess it's time to finally finish this thing. I'd at least like to know how it finally ends, despite not being a big fan of the series.

Was just wandering through the forums... I feel like crying, haha. I'm so bummed. I grew up with Inuyasha, and the characters freaking became part of me. Now I'm 19 and drowning in this huge wave of nostalgia. I feel like I'm leaving part of me behind.

Finished the first series early this morning and began The Final Act after breakfast. That pacing....the amount of plot development in this episode would have taken four or five of the non-filler episodes in the first series. We've really changed gears.

Interesting how some of the original antagonists have changed over the course of the story, particularly Sesshomaru and Kagura. In this episode, and the later episodes of the first series, she is much more sympathetic.

The OP was alright but that ED hit me hard. I love that ED to pieces. This is how Inuyasha should be. There's so much action in one episode I almost feel overwhelmed!

Hakudoshi is gone and serves him right. I feel worried about Kagura though. It looks like she's outlived her usefulness to Naraku :(

She really has come a long way since the beginning of Inuyasha. She's saved Kohaku's life multiple times and this one is particularly important. It shows that she has compassion and can care for other human beings.

I always knew Kagura was never the evil type to begin with, she was just being forced to do Naraku's evil deeds. In a lot of ways she is just like Kohaku used to be before he regained his memories.

Damn, I'm having to much fun with this series but I can't help myself ^^

Woah, full on action, I like that alot ^o^ what a great start to the series, it's so good to see all the characters too!

Kagura was amazing in this episode, i'm really happy with the amount of screen time she got, it reminded me why I love her as much as I do, and I can't help but hope that all goes well for her in the end hahah

Shippo and Jaken-sama intro for the win!

Kanna's haiku in the beginning of the episode is most probably relevant to the story rather than to just add effect to the feel of the atmosphere although I can't re-call all the lines

New OP and ED still have that 'Inuyasha' feel to it kinda, so i'm happy about that too!

That was such an amazing and beautiful episode!!!! T_T
Kohaku finally told Sango that he remembers everything!!
And Kagura told them where Naraku's heart is!! I love Kagura.
And Hakudoshi has finally been defeated!!
I loved how episode 1 of The Final Act picks up exactly where InuYasha left off!
Not sure how I feel about Kagome's new voice actress, but I'll get used to her.
That opening and ending!! I loved them!!!!

Wow I totally missed the fact that they made the continuation for this series. It's been like 10 years since I watched Inuyasha and I'm surprised I still vaguely remember the characters and plot. The bgm seems the same too, or at least very similar. Glad to be able to find closure with this series :)

Woah, that sure was fast paced. I mean, Sango finally met her brother, Hakudoshi died in a pretty anti-climatic way and Moryomaru evolved into some kind of weird... thing. That could have filled at least two or three episode. That make me worried for the rest of that season :/

Trust me, Hakudoshi deserved to die in that anti-climactic way. He was an arrogant brat that I wanted gone since he appeared.

Well, I'm not complaining about the pacing since I just finished the first season an hour ago, but I agree that they should have at least done a synopsis of the whole story.

I'm so glad Sango got to meet up with the Kohaku that remembers everything.

Kagome's new voice is so odd since I always used to hear the VA from the first season!

Resumes right where things left off pretty much. Pretty shocked by the sudden plot twists they're giving us. I thought Hakudoshi was loyal...

I've also noticed jumping into this that some of the VAs probably changed as they sound different (Dub) such as Kagome & Sesshomaru. I guess they couldn't get them for another season, 5 years later.

Wow, what a great opening and ending, I might be in the minority here but I liked the opening much better than the ending. Kagome's voice in the dub is different, I don't like it as much - I really miss her old voice, it just fit her so well. But great episode, it was far too fast paced and action packed. I didn't like how Hakudoshi died so early but it was surprising, I'm glad Kagura is still alive. I loved the new episode, art and animation and new opening and ending.

I like how they kept the animation style of the original and didn't make drastic changes to it.

The story progression runs a lot faster compared to the orginal, which is also nice since the original series it felt most of the time dragged out

I watched all 167 Inuyasha fansubs back in 2005 after I saw it mid-series on TV here in the U.S. But the anime was just cancelled and I was like wtf?! Still loved Inuyasha all these years but never watch Final Act until now.

So I just finished rewatching the original series and started Final Act this week. The OP and ED are awesome. The episode itself was too rushed, so much stuff was just thrown on the screen and it really worried me that Final Act will not be good. Fortunately, I've watched the next 3 episodes already and they were all amazing, so this first episode seems like just an outlier.

I never read the manga but seems they skipped over and mangled a whole bunch of stuff. I'm glad they skip the filler but wow, this was way too fast. But as long as the rest of Final Act is like the next three episodes I already watched, I will be happy.

Btw, can anyone explain the whole Moryomaru / Goryomaru thing? I've went back and watched the end of the first series, read the manga chapter summaries, and watched this episode, and I have no idea if they were always the same demon or at what point they merged and became the same demon. Not explained very well at all, but I just accepted it and moved on.

so many twists in one episode, the pace was little fast, but the main points achieved.

really liked also how they continued straight from where the first series ended, especially since i just finished marathon it to finish the series.

animation quality was great, took great step from the 2000 anime.

the Op i already know and like already, but the Ed was good surprise for me, great song.

Really everybody is back all at once in this first episode.

Not to mention that developments happen at a lightning pace where the old series was more leisurely. I have no particular preference for either. Overall, I'm just happy the story continues.

Just rewatched the first episode. Damn there are so many contents that cramped into single episode. There are so many lines or things that are just cut off from its source and sort of just happening lol. It should take at least 3 episodes to explain the whole thing behind Goryoumaru and Maryoumaru thing. In the actual manga, there are two confrontations between the group and them. In here the enemy is just escaping and barely putting any fight. And it also cut off the entire conversation between Kagura and Hakudoshi revealing the betrayal act. Pretty sucks after I compare with the actual. At least I still enjoyed it nonetheless and understand the actual content.

The Final Act begins. Goodbye, 4:3. Hello 16:9!

Saying that this episode had fast pacing is an understatement. That was blazing fast. Whereas the original Inuyasha was criticized for its slow pacing, this season has the exact opposite problem. I guess this is what you get when you cram 21 volumes into a 26-episode season. Instead of explaining so much shit in a single episode, Sunrise could've made OVAs adapting smaller arcs between 2004 and 2009. Oh well. This is still better than nothing.

The most disappointing part of this episode was that Hakudoshi's betrayal of Naraku plot-point was severely undercooked. In the original series, this at least would've taken 2-3 episodes. Heck, all the content of this episode alone would probably take at least 10 episodes. I can barely count everything that happened in this first episode alone. Someone told me they loved The Final Act because of this. Seriously? They'd pick this over the original series...? Maybe the future episodes don't have such fast pacing, I hope.

The weirdest part about Hakudoshi's death to me was that before I finished the original Inuyasha I had a dream that he survived the first series and wouldn't be killed until The Final Act. It's strange to see that my dream was fulfilled. I essentially got spoiled by my own dream.

Oh yeah, I loved the OP and ED. Do as Infinity is the GOAT! But I also REALLY love the ED. Might be one of my favorites of Inuyasha.

Seems like the next episode will be an emotional one. :(

I like how Inuyasha is walking on the fence just like Ranma. Nice callback.

The reference gets even better when you realize both characters have the same voice actors in both Japanese and English.

Wow, we are getting straight to business with this episode. Kagura revealing where Naraku's heart is, Hakudoshi finally meeting his demise, and many other important things unfolding. People may call this rushed but compared to the pacing of the original anime, this is a breath of fresh air.

What the hell was that first episode? lol, felt like so much happened in a short amount of time. I'm very surprised they did in Hakudoshi just like that as well, I had an inkling he was going to betray Naraku, but to reveal it and kill him off in the same episode?

I really hope the other episodes give things time to breathe and play out at a better pacing.

No spoilers, but out of the entire series, pacing of about the first quarter (maybe the first four to six episodes) of the last season (TFA) is the most rushed and easily the worst of the entire series. Especially if you're someone like me (and this may admittedly be a minority group) who always loved the slower pacing relative to some other anime (especially newer series/modern anime) of the earlier main seasons and viewed it as an actual asset rather than a detriment. Some people - typically those who like faster-paced anime/things in general - praise the pacing of the TFA by contrast and I basically couldn't disagree more. The ending arc and episodes of last season and beginning of this final one are especially jarring if you think and feel that way about the series - preferring it when it was much slower and more methodical and not in a rush.

The last season also, from what I've heard, compressed a lot of the manga source content more than usual and so this final season probably could have been at least 50 episodes or double in length instead of 26 episodes and fans of slower-paced Inuyasha may have preferred it that way (I know I would have personally...), but it does find its footing more after that first quarter or so (very first episode you just watched may be the single worst in this regard) and still contains probably some of the highs and best individual moments of the series. So yeah.

It's one of my main and only complaints about a series which is one of my few 10/10s and top favorite of all time, but I suppose in some respects it's lucky that the series was eventually renewed and continued at all considering the five year hiatus from 2004 to 2009. I surmise that part of what factors into the faster pacing toward the end is that they may have just wanted to wrap the series up after that hiatus, as maybe it didn't still have the same level of pull and popularity in 2009 - 2010 as back in the early 2000s when most of the series aired.

@WatchTillTandava Well, that's good to hear. I have no problems with the pacing of the original series, and can scarcely believe some people enjoyed the start to this, though it's not uncommon to see fans unable to appreciate something that's not blitzing through the story.
