THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Ya, show yourself Wamiya. Being Suzuhara is suffering.. I don't think she should be scared though but rather try to be more confident. Go Shogun-sama~. I'm glad she is able to use those seals though. Ya, she is gaining control and gotta keep that title. I'm somewhat proud of her this episode. Shit just went down. |

The three of them gathering again! The final day of festival with the competition thing. Meeting that enemy is intense. He has new foreign exchange student shiki. It seems like he controlled her in his side. Using those dead soul to make a peace world? lol~, too bad he said that name so that she's remembered. Wow, did she "reveal her trueness (this is what I don't get)", which is bad, with the anger? I hope she's ok. ... Edit: wait, is the next ep. final already? Interesting, there's highschool arc? Next week is the last episode and so the climax of volume 5 will be in the next episode. Now it seems obvious that they skip the whole volume 6. :( This series should have like 18-20 episodes instead of 12. It's a pity. I've been looking forward to see the showdown btw Izumiko & Takayanagi, the Christmas event and ....THAT FINAL SCENE of the last volume |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

OK, I've just read the last couple of lines at the end of vol.6 for the last scene. Don't get your expectation too high though: The two talked until the end, and Miyuki was holding Izumiko's hand (and she is wearing gloves) while the two watch a night sky full of stars. The last scene from Miyuki is indeed "stop talking" but he only lowered his body and got close to her face. It did not say whether there was a kiss afterwards. It may or may not be one. I guess the novel deliberately keeps it ambiguous. |

I think many of you already know this: The official website states that the next episode which will be aired on NicoNico on June 1, 2013 is the last episode. "2013/5/25 次回最終12話のニコニコ生放送先行配信は6月1日(土)23:30から! " Source: http://rdg-anime.jp/ As of now (only one episode left), they have 1/4 of volume 5 and the whole of volume 6 to be covered. I'm not sure how they're going to put all of these into 25 mins. So, I GUESS they will skip volume 6 but I can't really confirm. Look at what they did with episode 8: they could expand just 1/4 of volume 3 and a few first page of volume 4 and made them into one episode. But with episode 9, they compressed almost all of volume 4 into episode 9. Well, anything could happen. Below is a very BRIEF summary of what's gonna happen. ARE YOU SURE TO READ THIS? THEY'RE SPOILERS!!! Izumiko is upset that Takayanagi and his gang are trying to control her. All the electronic devices in the school are out of order because of her power and thus the school festival, competitions couldn't go on. Takayanagi is also turned into a cute white dog by Izumiko (poor him. I'm sure he would later be humiliated by the Soudas for the rest of his life because of this incident). Izumiko then went to another dimension/layer and wished that she would never go back to the reality again because she doesn't want to be captured and control by anybody. She also realised that she is indeed not NORMAL and couldn't live a normal life with normal people. Masumi appears and persuades her to stay in this dimension/layer forever with him and other ghosts (which are transferred from Hachioji ruins to this school by Onmyoujis). Miyuki later finds out about Izumiko's disappearance. He then asks Wamiya for help. At first Wamiya rejects saying that Izumiko said 'Don't come' (you already watched this in ep 11) and now he senses that she doesn't want to come back plus she is with Masumi who is apparently stronger than him (if you're reading the novel you could feel ever since the volume 3-4 that Wamiya is jealous of Masumi). However, Wamiya finally agrees only to transfer both Miyuki and Takayanagi the dog into another dimension but they must find a way to Izumiko by themselves. The rest of what happens will surely be animated in the next episode so just wait and see. The climax is how Izumiko coming back to her sense (thanks to Momotaro Miyuki and the cellphones) and Izumiko dances to send all the ghosts back. Her dance bewitches the whole school and so makes her the best candidate of the World Heritage. - End of Vol 5- -Vol 6- is actually how all the things are resolved. I will make a real brief summary of this volume and might come back to type more if episode 12 don't touch any detail in this volume. Takayanagi (now back to human form) disagrees with the result and wants Hodaka (the kabuki guy) to reconsider the decision because of his blah blah blah reasons like Izumiko is incapable of controlling her power (I'm kinda like Takayanagi's overly confidence and stubbornness). So we have a showdown between the two for a final decision. As you can guess, Izumiko wins BUT she declines to accept this candidacy. She asks Hodaka and the student council to announce Takayanagi as a top student/best candidacy for the World Heritage to the school's president. Next highlight is at the School's Christmas Event in which not only students but parents also joining. This includes Angelica's (I don't know how to spell it in French) father who appears to be a person from IUCN. By the way, Angelica is a white girl we're seeing with Takayanagi in ep 11. Another white guy is a German named Claus (???). Both Angelica and Claus are also people with special powers. In short, Izumiko (under the reindeer suit) goes panic (for a stupid reason I would say) and chaos happens (there is illusion Izumiko created though not all people could sense it). Miyuki, Takayanagi, the Soudas, other student committees try to cover for Izumiko and thus use their powers to turn things back to normal. Angelica's father impresses with this and saying that he's thinking of making the whole team (later called Team Himegami) to be the World Heritage candidate because everyone in the team deserve to be protected. (In other words, just like the world heritage site, they could announce the 'whole area' being a world heritage instead of just making one specific temple or one particular building to be the world heritage). The final major event of this volume is when Izumiko is abducted by a doctor/researcher named Nakayama Mizuho. Now this will confuse people who don't read the novel because the anime rarely mentions anything about her. She is Yukariko's friend since college, and is the one who is regularly making a physical checkup for Izumiko ever since she was young. Actually we caught a glimpse of her in episode 1: she is the person who's waving a hand to Izumiko while Izumiko's bowing to her and was about to leave by a helicopter. .......then Miyuki (of course, who else?) comes to rescue Izumiko. There is a sweet scene here when Miyuki tells Izumiko to run and don't worry about him while he's about to confront with the bodyguards. Izumiko ignores Miyuki's suggestion and hugs Miyuki from the back. She says she would rather be with him whether be in a foreign land or any place. Finally, Yukimasa appears and rescue the children and takes control of the situation. Yukimasa takes Izumiko to meet with Yukariko and then mother and daughter go back to Tamakura Jinja. All about the Himegami things will be explained here. I would like to wait and see how the anime will conclude this part. THAT final scene: Izumiko goes out for a walk, enjoying the starry night. Miyuki suddenly comes to the scene which makes Izumiko surprises because she thought he's in Tokyo. Then there are: Sweet talks. Holding hands. And a KISS (?) ;) |

Triskel said: Damn, how long are the novels ? The anime seems so slow paced I would never have thought we had covered so much. Doesn't seem to be much of a story in the end :(. What a waste of potential. The novel is just long enough that it won't confuse you with the plot like anime does. (Each volume of the hardcover edition has around 300+pages.) Here is how they adapt the novel into 11 anime episodes : Volume 1 = Ep1, Ep2, Ep3 Volume 2 = Epilogue of Ep3, Ep4, Ep5 Volume 3 = Ep6, Ep7, Ep8 Volume 4 = Epilogue of Ep8, Ep9 Volume 5 = Ep10, Ep11, ? Volume 6 = ? Actually I don't want to give my opinion about this anime until I finish all episodes but when I read your comment I couldn't help but agree. "What a waste of potential" >> is exactly my thought. RDG is a best-selling novel series written by an award-wining fantasy novelist, Ogiwara Noriko. It's not an original story created by P.A. Works. The fact that so many people who watch this anime get confused is MAINLY NOT because they're not familiar with Japanese folklore and culture but because it has a poor screenwriting (is this the word?). Even Japanese people who don't read the novel (if you can, go and read their comments in Japanese web communities, twitter, or even RDG DVD reviews in Amazon.JP) get confused. It's a shame when thinking that this series has a nice cast of voice actors, got a decent character design and great music (even I ended up making a pre-order for its ost cd), got a great animation quality, and most of all has a best-selling novel as a material for its storyline but fails to deliver its full potential to the audience. What a pity... symbv said: Actually there is a lot of character depiction, and the main theme of the novel (and thus the story) about the personal growth of a young girl is very prominent. I think the anime will just focus on the School Festival and the fight and skip all those incidents that involve new (or newish) characters in vol.6. Those can read a bit like anti-climax after the big confrontation at the school festival. The explanation of himegami and the result of who got the world heritage may be changed and moved to the school festival. That should be just enough for one episode to cover without losing the integrity and impact of the drama for the climax (which is the school festival). And I would agree with minuetto that there is issue with the screenwriting in the adaptation. People in Japan also get confused (and thus bored) by the developments in anime. That said, I also have the feeling that even if the screenwriting is done better it will still look slow paced to many people, simply because this is how it is written in the novel. |

I get what you both mean. I didn't mean it in a ''it's a bad story or novel'', it's just that I was expecting so much more ''mystery'' from the first episodes and even though I got the idea that it would be centered around personal growth (Izumiko), it never came out as a good ''coming-of-age'' story. So I kept expecting some twist or supernatural something that never came and I'm disappointed that six novels only covered that much ''mystery''. I understand that reading the novels, you probably grow to love the characters a lot more and they probably have more depth to them. In the anime, even the romance was lacking some stamina (it never felt like ''kyaa'' even though there were things happening or being said that strongly hinted romance) and the characters interactions were VERY confusing sometimes. I agree that this as much more to do with screenwriting than anything else and I always felt as though every episode had a great ''atmosphere'' but never bloomed (frustrating). All in all, I'd say it lacked power and clarity (lots of confusion). I feel let down in the end :p. I did like Izumiko but I don't feel that the next episode just ending on ''well Izumiko has grown and can take care of herself'' will ever be good enough. I would have liked a better closure, on either romance or some supernatural stuff (things Himegami hinted). I get the feeling that I'll get neither. And OK, I'm just rambling since the final episode is not even out :p. Pardon me for that. |

And a KISS (?) ;) Thak you a lot for that summary! |

I agree that the screenwriting is not great. I actually expected a lot from the adaptation because the author, Ogiwara(?), had written the fantasy novel I'd liked very much—Dragon Sword and Wind Child. The writing was great in that one (It's translated to English), and after the great adaptation of SSY, I was hoping RDG could have the same... But yeah...squeezing 6 volumes of NOVELS, most likely more pages than SSY's novel, into a 12 ep is more than pushing it...But they're only putting 5 volumes...? Or most likely thinking of making a special ep/OVA... But still...=.= |

I've been so torn on how I feel about this anime. First episode I was a bit hesitant, then episode 2-5 were impressive. Then they arrive at school and the twin arc went in a direction I just didn't like. Overall I think I will rate the show a 7. It has amazing art which saves it for me personally, some of the characters are at times very likeable("at times"). It has so much potential with they premise, but it just doesn't use it to its advantage in my opinion. The early episodes seemed like a lot of dark dangerous things were lurking in the shadows, and they were but they just didn't do a good job of maintaining that atmosphere. For me personally I think the whole school atmosphere being such a major part of the plot takes away from it more then anything, and the fact I just don't like the twins characters. I would watch a second season, especially since I just don't see the ending next week not being rushed. Is there any news of it continuing past episode 12 with an OVA or second season? |
