Another great episode especially in the second half imo. This woman here seems badass. Her crew seems pretty tough to me also. It's nice to see Chamber in warfare again.

Well, anyways I enjoyed the latest episode with the OST and action.

It was OK. I laughed at him when he apologized for killing the enemies/pirates. He was like a Japanese rather than an alien. It's a Japanese anime after all.

Woah, woah, they're like 10? Also, Gen's works rarely ever have explicit romance, even in his visual novels where romance and sex are a focal featured. He usually have the two lead roles get close and develop what could be a potential romance but something always happens to one of them: death, insanity, isolation, man-eating eldritch abomination, etc.

Funniest line of the week, thank you. Particularly like "eldritch", always fun to see another Lovecraft fan around.

And that doesn't happen? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/sean-12-is-the-youngest-father-1139875.html

Besides, you're aware how anime/manga depict its characters, right? They always seem much younger. Officially (in story) Amy is 14 and Ledo is 16. Old enough to get into a romance; even in our culture it's not that awkward to see romances at that age bloom. Besides, what do we know? Maybe it's fully normal in Amy's culture (not so much in Ledo's, as you have to show your worth in battle for 16 years before you can get laid, apparently ;-) )! Point is: I do not think anime and manga, especially when they are depicting another society/culture, should adhere to our moral senses. This was one of the good points of Shinsekai yori too; since their culture was quite different and explained they had another set of morals and were biologically altered to have sex in stressful situations (bonobo-genes), it made perfectly sense to show sexual activities even between kids. Without turning it into shotacon or loli, I may add. It made perfectly sense there, and was not portrayed unduly.

Anyway, I think it wouldn't be too strange if romance was hinted at in the anime, though you're right in saying Gen usually doesn't focus much on romance in his stories.

I just want to point out that your last line, when spoken aloud, rhymes.

I have noticed that Butcher Gen seems to have a seething hatred of his own characters, but he has seemed to have gotten better at controlling it.
...pffft what am I saying? They're gonna die.
Btw Ledo and Amy are 17 and 15-16 respectively [Ledo was 16.5 prior to the 6 month hibernation, Amy was somewhere in the 15's].
I think it's hilarious that she keeps giving him fish like he's a trained seal or something.

Well at least they didn't freak out and act irrational upon his return and get themselves killed, that's a small relief.
So they didn't take the easy way out from that situation. I can't say if that was brave or plain stupid.

Awesome episode! Seriously, I love how reasonable Red is, or maybe everyone was brought up that way where he came from. It's interesting that there is no word/phrase that mean "thank you" in his language, his world is really different. It made me smile at the end when tried to say 'arigatou." The whole fight with the pirates was awesome to watch, and I laughed when Red/Chamber spun the pirate lady and her two assistants around in the air, repeating "surrender, surrender." XD This anime makes me smile. Don't know how long that's going to last, but I really like the overall atmosphere/tone of the anime so far. The bgm was also nice and fit perfectly. Oh and that conversation between Bellows and Red was nice, it showed the ideology of the people, which Red had to try understand why what he did was "wrong" in their eyes.

Last thing, "it seems that she wishes you to consume the animal carcass." Red's reaction was hilarious!

It started great with "no killing" policy. But the next second they forgot about it and let him fight. I guess from this point it will get dull. I bet now his allies from space will come to Earth and he will fight against them and other pirates.

You know Ledo shouldn't be able to consume normal food so readily without dire consequences, being away from earth bateria for so long and such. Worse case scenario he could have died eating that first piece of fish. Oh well.

Anyway I wonder when the tears will come, because I don't think that female pirate will give up yet.

It's not like they had a choice there. And he still went with the "no killing" order and took his time to disable their guns and engines, instead of the curb-stomp-battle it would have been otherwise.

Also, that piratechick is crazy. Or maybe she just doesn't realize what chamber can do.
Also, pulling him under water isn't going to work. He's made for deep space and lay for half a year ion the ground of the sea already. And I doubt his gravity propulsion thingamabob has trouble with being underwater either.

On a completely unrelated side note, I wanna hug Amy. This is all.
I want Rambo in a mecha-suit with a laser-chainsaw gun that fires nuclear warheads, fighting the love-child of Predator, Alien, a group of Bangladeshi terrorists, and Satan. (Actually that would be a pretty sick show) - StopDropAndBowl

Good episode, more animal corpses lol. Seems he can win without killing though it took longer and he actually had to get close to the enemy. What if he is damaged(doesn't seem likely at this point) how would he make repairs. Anyway looks like Ledo will be staying with them.

Also there are some pretty good characters, like Ledo, Amy, Bellows and that guy who was messing with "Chamber."

Someone's giving away their age. Sadly, my early childhood was filled with those earwick tunes and now i feel old. Thanks a lot.

I also realize I'm a "hentai" cause the ending scene i kept thinking "Amy sure likes to keep feeding Redo fish. She must be trying to get him used to the smell so he won't upchuck if he goes deep sea diving"... "if you know what i mean".

I'm sure the hygiene on old rusty sea vessels is a lot less pristine than say a sterilized space vessel.

It's amusing how they trying and pacify the space marine brute.

I found the pirate queen to be quite the character herself. I kept recalling Star Wars when I nicknamed her "Lukka the Slut" because of her two slaves scant clad and in chains. Seems like these girls liked being the Ms.

Neither side gets what Chamber can do, that is good thing about this show. When confronted with transformation technology people immediately try to associate it with what they know. They literally do not have the imagination to understand what it can do. Take the machine gun, it took 50 years for European Generals to get through their noggin's the real destructive power of the gun, this is why so many people were killed in WWI. Even though they used these guns against non-Europeans for decades, they still never completely got their heads around the power they had.

As for not getting "deep space". These people think that space is similar to Earth. Remember they think a sail boat if it could fly could get there in one day. They cannot comprehend how powerful and deadly vacuum can be. Probably much like the ancient Greeks and European Middle Ages they believe that nature abhors vacuums. For this reason the concept of "ether" was invented. It was only in the early part of the 20th century that people finally realized that space is a vacuum.

They said that the pirate fleet was just "all in this area", which means there are much larger ones out there, who will probably unite against Gargantia now. This is why the leaders were so paranoid. They know that the relative strength between them and the pirates is too wide. They haven't quite figured out that Ledo could not only wipe out Gargantia, but every single pirate on the planet. The scale to understand this is just too big.

Chamber should be running out of battery soon :P

I would assume that's why Ledo started to "learn" the language as shown in final moments of this episode, cause chamber won't be translating for long :P

I can also see the Galactic fleet descending from the sky and land into the water next to the Gargantia fleet. :P After the beginning battle (episode 1), i can only imagine that Avalon is not doing too good as majority of the manpower was wiped in the unsuccessful battle. (Maybe it's already wiped out and surviving humans found the distress signal Ledo sent)..

And maybe Ledo is not "doomed to" stay in the Earth for rest of his life.. i'm pretty sure he will be reunited with the Galactic alliance soon enough in a way or another..

Anyways 5/5 episode! Probably anime of the year 2013 so far..

Japanese doesn't distinguish the "R" and "L" sound so both translation are ok, either Ledo or Redo.

Btw I'm much appreciate to I.G, they executed the night battle perfectly with all the lighting effects, sounds and strategies (wouldn't expect those pirates have underwater mech).
By far this is one of the most exciting plot to watch, along with Shingeki this season <3

Absolutely loved it! That was sooo good.

I should've known better. There's no way Urobuchi would take the cliche route of having them think he's a monster. I loved how they dealt with him pretty logically and realistically :)

The way he defeated the pirates was epic. Loved that swinging while asking them to surrender hahaha. Really love Chamber and how he always translates :)

But my favorite scene gotta be that end when Red said Ar--Ari---Arigato. That put a huge grin on my face :D

Well, we finally get to see the next episode and it was quite interesting. Not as good at the first two, but still really good.

Red took the dressing down by the crew really well, and he and Bellows all made some good arguments. However, I can't help feeling that Gargantia was acting very ungrateful toward him. He save their lives and their stuff, but instead of thanking him they just blame him for their next worry. And even when he's proves that he can pretty much take care of nearly anything all they say is, "why should we have that strange boy helping us?" It was really irritating and infuriating!

The battle at the end was goo with the pirates, however they really kind of came off cartoony. Their mechs looked stupid, and none of them did anything really interesting. In fact water-skiing lobster woman's was the worst.

Chamber of course was awesome as always, but I wish they would have let him go all out, especially when the battle escalated. Seeing a mech just beat up things with its hands looks stupid, and id not what a mecha fan like me comes for. There are times when you're going to have to take lives Gargantia!

However, I did enjoy the cultural aspects they included, such as the fact of Red learning the meaning of the phrase "thank you". And that they keep feeding him "animal corpses". I wonder what it is they eat in space? Also it looks as if Red is beginning to learn so words too, though I'm perfectly okay with Chamber continuing to translate!

So while this episode for me was not as good as the precious ones. It was still an interesting experience. I give this episode a 7.95/10.

The episode was bullshit. And I dont mean the quality, that was superb. But their reasoning was so poor that it pissed me off. So, he saved their ass (literally, cose normally theyd be raped and killed, or used as hostages if Ledo tried to negotiate) and they turn a cold shoulder to him?!? And keeping him out of the battle till it got clear that they would get themselves killed playing Jesus. A raw show of force would make things so much easier. In 2 minutes hed be able to show them that they are no match, with minimal losses to the pirate scum. Instead they let many of their own crew die, and killed maybe even more pirates in the battle. Even the commander was willing to surrender, for fucking WHAT?!? Pirates are pirates because they want to live on the back of others, he aint gonna change that by turning Jesus.
Yes, killing ALL of them wasnt right, he might have just killed the ones that were immediate threat, but still the shit they sprout at him was pure nonsence. Even after they saw what Chamber is capable of they were willing to go against him/betray him. For fucks sake I really wish they handed Ledo to the pirates whod just laugh at their stupid asses and enslave their whole dumb fleet using the robot after that (supposing the impossible they manage to use Ledo as hostage to make the robot do what they want instead of vaporising them).
2/5 and score down to 6/10 just cose of this stupid crap.

That was a great episode. I think it's great that they are turning him more "human," in a way, rather than just a methodical killing-machine.

It's also interesting that he's so OP and could kill everyone on earth probably, but in space he was just a number amongst others that was easily killed by those aliens.

wow, that was a great episode. The atmosphere was great, and the action was awesome. And damn, the BGM was perfect. I find it interesting how that lobster pirate woman never knew that chamber was that powerful, since she thought Gargantia made it, while not even accounting that it came from space, because it's so hard to believe. I actually forgot how powerful chamber was, and I actually thought she was going to bring him into the water.

I understand what he means, I was a little disappointed in Red and Chamber too. (I'm used to and expect a large body count in my mecha series)

However, I was quite impressed with Red's reaction. He's totally like "whatever". This is how they do it here, so I'll do it if it makes them comfortable. He's not going to turn into a pacifist wuss (thank God!), he knows that in war that "take not lives" or "don't go all out" crap would never work, and I assure you the next time he goes out against the space snails and space flowers, he will take them out just as he always has.

In the end they even thanked him?!?!
Lets see - kill shity pirates, save crewmembers and boats - makes them mad.
That leads to attack where they lose more crewmembers and boats than there were with Bellows, now they are thankfull. Sorry, but if I was a relative to the murdered crew I might be upset of Ledo who indirectly caused this, but Id want the leaders heads who decided to sacrifice my relatives lives trying to turn the other cheek to the pirates and play Jesus. It really pissed me off seeing how the captain and his aide acted like sheep. They need to go to the church and pray instead of lead.
