Wow, they actually used the Blood-Freezing thing o.o. cool.
~Sad episode on Ultear's past most of the time. It went the way I wanted it too, Ultear realizing that her mother truly cared for her and did not abandon her at all. No epic fight was needed cause to me that's all that was needed for this to be a great episode. Just like in the manga.

Great episode. Kind of expected, tho. Come on, Main character's teacher having an evil daughter like that? Haha, this explained a lot. Wonder if Ultear will eventually slide over into Fairy Tail now or probably get locked into one of those shiny magic council prisons.
Next week tho...Hope something starts, The last few scenes with them showing everybody and the lightning going off...Epic setting is epic. :P

I've spent many a sleepless night wondering how they would cover Gray freezing his blood in an anime that shows no blood.

And they showed blood. Not out of the wound, though; I believe ice doesn't normally draw ice from one's body. But they showed it anyway. Of course, that's not all that satisfied me.

The expansion of Ultear's dark and troubled past was nothing short of impressive. It might have been an excuse to give a character such as Brain, who is no longer consequential it seems, a brief cameo. But to actually show more about why things came to be so bad made this episode worth it.

Beautiful episode. Wish more episodes were like this. 5/5

In my opinion,Gray vs Ultear is definiatly the best animated fight in the arc so far.All the other fights were either too short or won by typical "Nakama Power".And I was wondering how the blood freezing was gonna work in FT,I was afraid that Gray would fabric instead of blood considering blood loss in the manga usually equalled ripped clothing in the anime.

Good episode. VIRGO knows what I want! lol Fan Service!
Pretty funny with Juvia chasing after Meredy like a zombie.

And of course the Gray vs. Ultear fight was good, it's good to see that Ultear finally realized what exactly happened to split her and her mother apart and her coming to the realization she's been wrong this whole time.. Then ZING good guy. lol

They'd better come up with some good filler not just for the rest of the arc, but also the series. Because this anime is getting DANGEROUSLY close to the current events of the manga.

As it stands, at least seven episodes are scheduled to air after this, based on this Japanese site, which is constantly updated to show more free slots: http://cal.syoboi.jp/tid/1755/time?Filter2=Future

I just hope they won't be the final seven episodes of the series... I don't want the show to end abruptly just because it's getting close to the manga, kind of like Rave Master (though I don't know why they stopped making that). And I don't want the anime staff to make up their own ending either. A hiatus is fine if I get to resume watching it to the end before the day I die, but filler would also be good.

I'm impressed they showed the blood at all! Ever since the scene was shown in the manga, I've spent many a sleepless night wondering whether or not the anime would include the frozen blood, considering just about every other drop of blood was removed from the anime. I was actually fearing they'd switch the blood with body water, like sweat! But I'm glad they kept it; there's a limit to how far I'm willing to suspend my disbelief, even for this series.

Bleh. BLEH. Ultear heard Ul's memories in the sea. That's really fucking convenient, isn't it? Also, the people saying that this was the best ANIMATED fight in this arc are either blind, or just plain ignorant/stupid. This is one of the better picture book fights of this arc seems like a more correct answer.

Boring episode.

Lame episode. The blood ice was not nearly as badass as the manga. Sparkly pink shit with no aftereffect to be seen just is not impressive or badass. Horrible animation to the fight, even by Fairy Tail standards, and Ultear's past was boring and cliched. With Azuma dead and the only long running villain of the series now basically a good guy, the decent villain count in Fairy Tail is again back to zero.

I can respect your opinion and all, but, this fight barely had any still shots(Especially compared to the other downright terrible fight scenes in this arc.).And was atleast won by something OTHER than "Nakama Power".What was so bad about this fight where as atleast for me felt like breath of fresh air from the other terrible fight scenes? In the meantime,it barely even seemed like you payed attention to the episode.

Sawashiro Miyuki basically did half of the dialogue in the entire episode, from Virgo to Ultear to Ul.
Now that's talent. That's why she's one of my favorite seiyuus.

Love this episode..

Why they shold cencored the blood ? WHY ?
but it's okay, because I still can saw Gray using his blood to make the ice instead of hair. lol
Ultear pass was really sad.. I'm glad the anime team did some extension on that..

Great backstory imo...

So thats how she got her name,Ul-tear,Ultear.

& it seems like Hades will be defeated by Gray,Natsu & Erza with minor help by Wendy,Happy,Charle & Lucy & I am sure that Natsu is going to get the finishing move & credit of defeating hades, the only thing that I don't like about this show..

Yeah, I know that the seiyuu of Virgo,Ul and Ultear is the same so I wanted to see how she is going to make three different roles in one episode...
Result:She did her job amazingly!!!
And about the episode I didn't expect to see Gray's blood(not the sencored one, when he cut himself) so I was wondering how they will make this scene, and when I saw his blood in his ice, it make the scene more realistic and awesome!!!
Also Ultear's past so sad...
And this episode was one of the best of this arc along with Erza's and Juvia's fight(in my opinion)
Can't wait for the next episode as someone is coming back.....

I finally saw another Gray's fight. He was pretty smart by using his blood. Gray' the best *-*
Well, Ultear's past is sad, but I still don't like her.
Virgo doing her fan service was very funny and the same goes for Juvia chasing Meldy.
I'm looking forward to see the next episode. When will Natsu fight? He didn't do anything for a long time TT_TT

So the sea has Ultears memories or "life force" and when Ultear was in it she remembered her mothers memories...?

Well that makes sense.

Ultear was a pretty cool bad guy and her story took about 100 episodes to finish so i was really interested to see what was her past like. I'm kinda disappointed that they pulled out the "kids are stupid" card to explain why she got that way. And Ul didn't question the creepy looking guys with mask's on their faces? You'd think she would have done a better background check on these guys who live in a crescent shaped building thats not even finished.
And what was their goal? So that Brain would get magic power and possible candidates to hold his other persona away? Nothing else?! Just putting more magic power into children seemed like a good idea at the time. Ugh, i hated the Orachion Seis arc so lets not talk about that anymore.

Juvia was funny, Virgo's fanservice was nice and the fight didn't really have much of still pictures so that was great. Arc is coming to an end. Heres hoping that the ending battle will be epic.

It's not the end of the anime -_-. That is how many episodes there will be when the Season ends (ya know...the whole 12-13 episodes). Many sites do this with the shows. I hope they go into a long filler arc, History Arc is what I kinda want. or a Rescue Fairy Tail Arc...but I won't say why I want that unless you know what happens in the manga.

I was not expecting to enjoy an episode about Ultear as much as I did. Loved her backstory and that it actually made her being a raging psycho understandable. That past events and characters like Ul melting into the sea and Brain working for the Magic Council or whatever got tied in were a plus.

My enjoyment was tempered by how easy Ul left her daughter and her gullibility. And while the blood ice idea was neat, it was animated kind of poorly and at least for me I didn't quite understand what he did at first because of that.

Still, I thought it was a very good episode. Can't wait for the next. Hopefully the arc can remain this awesome until the end.

No, you can't respect it when you're obviously trying to "Prove me wrong".

The whole battle was bad. The animation was horrible. Just because they reuse animation for every single Gray's attack from previous episodes does not make it good animation. Also, there were plenty of still shots in the fight.

Fairy Tail mostly has garbage animation, so i can see why you would think this was good. And i agree, going by Fairy Tail standards it was ok. However, comparing it to anything else, you realize that it's actually garbage.

Even though you say that is has garbage animation, and all that junk it's still doing great. Just wait until you see the movie when it comes out. Fairy Tail's anime isn't at all high budget and that's is what is pushing it back. I just wish it was a bit higher budgeted, but I have seen some high-quality episodes. Like the final Dorma Anima battle was one I saw was spectacular.

The animation was horrible... Yes, comparing to some high-level anime out there this one is bad. But I would have understood your statement if this was episode 10 or so, but we are 116 episode in already and we know there won't be major change, so bringing this issue again as a BAD part of the episode is more silly on your part.

Knave said:

Oh really? I haven't seen this animation and pose before... so your statement is invalid.

If you watched carefully this is one of the better Gray's animated fights. And if you fail to see that then I'm questioning your ability to see the difference between good and bad animation. Concerning Fairy Tail of course.

You're trying to defend something that's not based on opinion. It's fact. The animation in this episode was not good. It wasn't even ok, it was plain bad. You picked out one move that he did to defend against my statement. That doesn't change the fact that they reused his other moves and their animations. They fucking did this back in the single digit episodes when Natsu kept spamming his roar of the fire dragon, or whatever the fuck it was called.

The reason i'm a bit annoyed by this is because they barely fought at all. The episode was 90% flashback, so you'd expect the remaining 10% where they fought to be well animated. Instead you get shitty animation.

Great back story, even though seeing her memories in the ocean was pretty stupid. They could have atleast equipped gray with ul diary or something before the arc started.

But that really bad part about this episode, and generally about this show. Is these godddamn fight scene they are completely terrible. I feel like this is an RPG of some sort, you bash away at your enemy until his lifebar goes away and then hes suddenly defeated. He shows not real sort of damage but yet he defeated. I mean common gray little Ice blood combo made no sense at all to me. He apparently has sharp blades on his arm made of blood but when he attacks she not even effected or cut. She just bounces back in power ranger fashion apparently showing she took damage.

I might have to say goodbye to the anime and just read the manga. I just hope the fights make more sense there.
