Damn, we got some immediate fighting action gameplay. This arc is starting to live up to its hype after the character introductions and buildup. Ofc, Sunraku is involved in this and it looks like some of these are pro players.

There's definitely some freaks in this arc but all in for it. Looks like an exciting arc already.

Pretty fun episode, always nice to see them outside of SLF playing other games. This fighting game being open world and having role play elements makes things interesting. Kei vs Sunraku was dope too. Kei should know that you never call time mid fight like that tho 😂

Next week we’ll get a flashback to the Galaxia championships where Kei and Sunraku fought 3 years ago. Can’t wait

My boy Kei might have himself a love interest in Megumi 👀

This might be the most important SLF mini theater. Sunraku is now interesting in being a pro gamer, so he's kinda want to know the annual income. Living in the luxury hotel with the latest VR machine really change his mind.

Interesting, so he's like his old opponent and his current strategy built after last match several years ago will not work based on this gameplay test.

Mini-theater is back, Sunraku trolling Kei in an online interview. LOL

70% winrate

What Kei here conveniently ignores is that his "70% winrate" is based on him having access to superior hardware which noticeably increases his performance.

The battle between Nu2meg and Sunraku went exactly as I expected, with Sunraku in the lead. But even though Sunraku is a genius at any game he is put up to and can stand up to anyone, I don't think Nu2meg lost because of lack of skill, but rather because of underestimating him. Still, I think Sunraku is the better player.

I would have loved to see a fight between Sunraku and Pencilgon. She's so devious that the villain role fits her like a glove; I can't wait to see what kind of chaos she'll bring to the tournament.

The way things are developing, I doubt Sunraku will be the one to defeat Silvia. Kei seems to have the strongest rivalry with her.

Shagrila mini theater is back.

I was a little sad that we left the undersea arc but this Galaxia arc looks pretty interesting, a lot better than the last time we strayed to the other game (i forgot the name). I really like this Marvel looking art style and i dont mind getting to know Katzo a bit more. For the most part his presence has always been under the radar so it's nice to see him getting more screentime. Are we gonna see the undersea arc next season then?

Sunraku having to prove himself in this new fighting game they'll be in during the event. Firstly against Megumi as they continue the fight from last episode. This fighting game having those hero and villain meters as part of the power system is really interesting. Anyone who's a gamer watching this has to applaud the author for not only writing an amazing game in Shangri la frontier but also all these other games we see throughout the series. This game here galaxia heroes is really unique itself, which makes sense why the author would put so much into this game too since we're going to spend A lot of time here. Sunraku fighting Megumi was cool, I like the characters in this game they all seem unique and interesting. Sunraku immediately getting the hang of things here, he knew exactly what to do against a fighter that relies on counters and controlling momentum. Him beating her was awesome to see, Sunraku showing he can hang with the pro gamers. Oikatzu challenging Sunraku to a match but more of experimental reasons to test something. Wanting to see if his character could counter the one this Sylvia girl uses. She's definitely the biggest threat so anything that can be learned to defeat her the better.

At the very least, I'm glad that this fighting game looks a lot better than the previous one, hell, it even looks better than Shangri-la and all of its CGI. The problem is the gameplay and the RPG element, I could even assure that the FGC would let it die in like, two weeks at most, and it would remain niche or get closed down rather fast.

Oh I wasn't expecting that to come back.

It still feels really dumb and really bad to just leave that underwater arc unfinished before starting a completely different arc. All the hype built up around it is gone and when/if we ever get back to it, it would lose all the build up and excitement that it had. Sunraku still wearing that stupid fucking mask with that annoying voice filter, like holy shit it wasnt funny the first time, and its not going to start being funny, just have the man show his damned face.

Sunraku really looks ridiculous with that mask. He should take it off and show his face to them.

Towa Amane is so cute and funny in the same time, I like her.

Ending song has been on repeat since, I am just hearing it for the first time. The Shangri La hype for this week was worth it. I loved the mecha fights arc (the one with rust), but this one had a certain bad ass feel. That samurai with dual blades, and cool character design, and the art style of the fights, Damn!!
I also like when he laughed that normal laugh he laughs in SLF with the bird man character🤣🤣🤣. Men, this Shangri La studio cooks regardless. I love their consistency.

I know Sunraku’s an amazing player but to beat an actual pro gamer in a pvp of a game he just started playing is wild. I mean sure it has some slf elements in it so they are kinda familiar to it but still, he beat a pro gamer in a fair game on a game he just started probably an hour ago.
I am not counting his fight with Pencil, that bitch is a deviant cheater.
With Kei tho… was bro flexing on having a 70% win ration to a non pro gamer that has a significantly lower specs of hardware than his? In simple terms its being cocky about beating a PS1 player vs a PS5 pro player.

Now Im curious how Sunraku isnt a pro gamer yet, bro has a similar playstyle with america’s no.1 player, that is a hell of a praise from 2 pro gamers. Tho Im sure Sunraku’s a weaker version of her, aint no way he’ll be better than her.
This is hella exciting because we got pvps now besides the usual pve setup.

That fighting games really boring. Uninteresting mechanics with the whole "if you find this random cube you win" idk that doesn't seem like a very good game. Overall underwhelming the tournament is probably going to be disappointing or rely on some cheese to force scenarios. This is just another boring generic tournament arc.

Why do they even need a team of four gamers if Kei showed at the end of the episode that he solo participated in the championship of a previous version of Galaxia Heroes?

Had the same question in mind. My guess is that in their world, all you have to do is to read a bunch of comics about the game's characters and lore to become a pro.

It doesn’t even look like a fighting game, more like an RPG with PvP elements, where the one who plays their role better wins. The whole cube mechanic is just plain stupid and broken. You could just pick Metius, the fastest character (as mentioned), build up points to fill the gauge, and then just run across the entire map to find the cube.

@LessThanAnimeFan I agree it seems like a lot of it was just written for convenience more so than something well planned out. I still say it's fine people like this Tournament arc, but it's still just a generic Tournament arc and ruined the existing story flow. Rising action then BAM something totally unrelated. I get these characters will most likely become reoccurring and have a presence within SLF like every side character from past games, but that doesn't really carry as much impact imo. Hopefully it doesnt run as long as it did in the manga. Its fine if people enjoy this arc, but I'll likely just skim it due to a lack of interest. I mean if you've seen one Tournament arc you've generally seen em all and it's not like anything from that fighting game will have much use in SLF either.

@Hot-Pantaloons This arc is just a sample of the upcoming ones that will be based on the web novel, and there will be several arcs and other very large ones based on other games. The story of Shangri La Frontier was written based on that, not just with Shangri La as the focus, and look, this is the best written Shangri La arc so far based on the manga, tied with Ctarnidd.

They will probably take the first cour of the third season to the tournament and give it a godlike quality with the good production of C2C.

@LessThanAnimeFan The text of Shangri La Frontier is very didactic, so it is easy to read and you just need to read it correctly or watch the scene, which is very explanatory, and all your doubts are cleared. and literally in the scene of silvi and kei and 1vs1 in that tournament

@teymarofc I'm sure it will be well done its just not a very interesting side plot to me. While its likely to be full of action the only real immediate plot I have any interest in is within SLFs game world as that's the main overarching plot. These side games just feel like one-offs to introduce new characters that will eventually play SLF. I've no doubts there would be more side games either, that seems to be their main way of introducing reoccurring characters. The age old joke when it comes to anime/Manga is "Tournament arcs where a story goes to die". It's a boring tired trope that's been done to hell and back. It's totally cool if you're a fan of it, to each their own.

Seems they will be stretching this part until the end of the cour. Well, season 3 has already been greenlit so it's no wonder they are taking their time, after all, the stuff they are adapting right now are content which were just released around late 2023 to mid 2024 and so far they are still well within their encounter against Ctarnidd in the manga right now in 2025.

This anime dropped to a 4 for me. I'm skipping story to watch some animation and fight scenes. I really don't care about any of these characters anymore.
I watched some interviews with the writer because I was curious about something and he apparently was in the US for a while where he "learned" a bunch of things he's been using his anime to signal.

@LockHowl Apparently he didn't learn how to write, because kicking the SLF game to the curb not once, but twice, in the same season, is some of the shittiest writing I have even seen in any anime series.

I agree this series was never about the characters. They have been 2 dimensional since the first season. Except Bilac, and she disappeared quick this season. It's always been about THE GAME. It doesn't take a genius to figure out.

This episode could have been better. The fight between Sunraku and Kei actually looked bad as Sunraku was running towards Kei with that attack. The author had done a really good job Making other interesting games outside of SLF but this one really doesn't feel all that special I wonder how all the little quirks are going to come into play when they start the matches. well that's been a long time since 'SLF Theater MINI!' showed up! :D heh! that one was funny!

with only 3 more episodes to go, i'm guessing Galaxia whachamacallit will be the final arc and we won't be getting into SLF UpsideUnderwaterDownTown anymore... which sucks. but it is going to be at least a vaguely interesting mini-arc. the giant fighting robots one was... meh... \shrug/ at best. the concept was fun and all, giant fighting robots n whatnot... but now we have a one-on-one Overwatch fighting kinda-sorta game arc? in a tournament even? cmon, so trope-filled it just oozes 'niche mini-arc bullshite'!!! :P pththt "That's So Lame!" and the 'revenge match' sub-sub-plot along with 'USA vs Japan'? element??? ughhh... and the plant-girl? PoisonIvy knockoff... old samurai dude... been there, done that... Speedster... dozens of em! cmon at least a smidge of originality? the lava arms guy was... hmmm... ok i'll admit that one was fairly original.

ah well, it is the only anime i watch this Winter on Sundays... so i guess i'll grit my teeth n bear it.

Yes, at first this game seemed interesting in gameplay perspective, however as you point out it's kinda ass.

First, the random game winnig cube is literally the golden ball from that Harry Potter game. That is inherently bad game design because it introduces a win condition which is not related to the core gameplay loop. This design is so bad that I heard that the Quidditch players even removed that golden ball from the game.

Next, the game is a weird mix of casual single player power fantasy and competitive pvp. These two don't mix well because for competitive play you're incentivized for cheesing and optimizing the power fantasy aspect, otherwise you just get bodied by someone who does. Worst of all would be the randomness, like you find less npcs to save or torment than your opponent. Fairness is a crutial component of fighting games, as we even see all random elements removed for competitive Smash tournaments.

We got to see more of this Injustice variant game and the way Sunraku could complete throw Meg for a loop with her strategy. Pencilgon must have been really evil in the game in order to beat him. So basically we got to see the reason they were summoned by Katzo, Sunraku resembles Silvia while Pencilgon fits the villain role very well.

Good moves, good fights, good lingo in the strategies. Let's see the replay of that time 16 year old Kei lost.
