There's definitely a conflict of ethics revolving about the methods of training inquistors. The moral code in this anime can be in the grey area at times.

Glad to see Joletta and the others enjoying some life and progress in their research. Curious to see what other direction they'll take in the story with them. The inquistor program definitely feels controversial in their world.

Even though I already had a hunch what might happen since it was too easy to figure out Jolenta's father with Tsuda's voice, this episode still made me tense like few other anime out there. Both during the new recruits' training and the 4s' conversation at the tavern, I was watching through gritted teeth, jumping at each change in expression. And that cliffhanger, can't wait for the next week's episode! Every 3rd episode of this anime has been a masterpiece so far, so I'm prepared to get my mind blown again next time!

A brutal episode tbh. Nowak is one cruel cold-hearted motherfucker. But, I'm not surprised, he's so brainwashed by the Church about these Heretics and stuff that he has become so heartless in his job. Can't believe such a sweetheart like Jolenta is the daughter of such a cruel guy. But, that's how life is.

Nowak finally met Badeni and Oczy and Oczy almost had a heart attack there seeing him again. At first, I thought Badeni knew about him and he's playing his cards by mentioning astronomy stuff with Jolenta to her dad but it seems like I might be wrong, as he was surprised when he came back to tell his real job to them.

Scary stuff. Can't wait for next week. Peak.

Behold, the face of a wholesome, churchgoing dad!

I've never wished for a fictional character to shut up as much as I did for Badeni at the table. For his and Oczy's sakes I hope Jolenta decided to stay behind too if only to buy them a little more time.

The life of inquisitors is not easy, but they do what must be done...

This was probably the most tense episode in a while, with the likes of Nowak showing up again, doing what he does best, which seems to be emotional manipulation, and not wavering in his beliefs. I wonder if he's already completely stone-cold-hearted at this point due to his job, or if he still has a shred of "humanity" left in him. It's amazing how little Jolenta knew about her father's job, and how well Nowak hides his dark side when in public. The tension has been turned up to eleven, and the next episode is going to be insane probably. Can't wait.

The torture stuff is absolutely brutal. Nowak is some antagonist. Just Cold hearted terror.
Jolenta poor girl has no clue what kind of job he is. The horror in Oczy face sums it all up. Going to University, escaping to Venice to publish the reasearch. Nah..
Badeni looks like it's over.

It’s interesting to see the conflict even within the church about inquisitors. People like Antoni felt like they were a waste of time and resources while others felt they were necessary. But it also speaks to the hypocrisy of the church that learning about the heliocentric model was heresy while priests having kids like the Bishop with Antoni and breaking his vows were swept under the rug lol

Anxiety was through the roof this episode oh my goodness. The new inquisitors’ training scenes were so hard to watch. I wonder if they knew what they were signing up for because they both seemed way too kind for this role. “They might lie to escape the pain” in fact very true that’s why the CIA and DOD are supposed(emphasis on supposed to) have abandoned torture as an interrogation method because studies do show people will just lie to stop the pain.

But once the bishop personally requested Nowak presence on a job I already knew it was gonna be to go after Badeni and Oczy. When Nowak showed up at the bar my heart dropped.. already had a bad feeling because everyone’s talking about their future plans. Oczy going off to uni and Badeni going to further his research

Whole time I’m like yea I don’t think any of yall will be fulfilling those future plans 🤣. But Badeni dumbass snitching on himself is CRAZY, they’re cooked now. Like for all his smarts that was the dumbest thing I’ve seen. Oczy sweating bullets was literally me.

That “do you two have a moment” in the darkness at the end might be one of Tsuda’s coldest lines. Pure chills. Just like Badeni and Oczy I thought we might be good for now, but he’s clearly onto them and Badeni talking about astronomy did them no favors. I know they’re cooked, but how is Jolenta gonna get killed by her own dad 😢 maybe the new inquisitors we saw today would be in charge? This is gonna be the most painful one yet.

This episode was rightfuly titled "Terror", because I was terrified watching it.

The first part remembered us how gruesome inquisitors are, since it has been quite a bit since we last saw inquisitors.

But when Nowak was called by the bishop for another cosmic herectics, we all knew where it was going down, and I started SWEATING.

And then Badeni, Oczy and Jolenta were all together, just having a good time, talking about the heliocentrism theory, and I was just like, PLEASE, STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. And then it's made the (not so big) reveal that Nowak is Jolenta's father. I can now understand why the Manga readers were mad when in episode 7 we could see that Nowak was Jolenta's father right away, although I always thought is was really hinted that he was her father even if we take that scene out. But since we already knew, the impact of the scene was not the impact that it should have had. But because of this reveal, the rest of the episode was so much tense!

When Jolenta and Nowak were going back home, I was finally "ok, maybe it was another herectics" but then, Oczy started telling Badeni everything just right here and there, and I was like "MAN, JUST GET AWAY FROM THERE", and then Nowak appears and I'm just shivering, like this can't be real, with the reveal that he is an inquisitor.
Badeni and Oczy's future seem really bleak now, and Badeni should have written whatever he was going to write...
Since it's their 1st offense, they might get away, but that would imply they had to destroy everything they had...

I really don't know what's going to happen next episode, if they are going for the run, or if they are going to get tortured, but still live, but whatever happens, I think it's clear the anime is getting ready to advance for the next generation. This has been a question many (including myself) have had since episode 3, and that was if this anime would be frequently changing MCs, and I think this episode is answering that. Not only that, but we're 11 episodes in, and the knights that appear in the opening haven't appeared yet, which might be hinting they are only appearing right at the end of this 1st cour. Yeah, we're already finishing the 1st cour, that's crazy! I'm really happy this anime has 25 episodes!

We all know who made the tip against Badeni though... That clergic that is with Badeni discovered Piast's book last episode, and Piast must have written there that Badeni and the others were trying to prove the heliocentrism theory... And since he didn't like Badeni at all, it was an easy tip for him...

It's also interesting to note that Nowak made sure that Jolenta wasn't with them when he started to interrogate them, so that she can be absolved from all this situation, because he must know (or at least suspect) that she's involved in all this, but is protecting her. That is pretty much how I expected Nowak would act, since back in episode 1 or 2, he clearly said he was only that work to protect his daugther, and I'm sure he wouldn't even consider torture his own daugther "in the name of the blasphemy". But knowing of all of this, I don't know if he won't be forced to do that...

I seriously can't wait another week for the next episode! I need to know what's going to happen now! I don't think this final part is going to be a "troll" and Nowak would only be like "thank you for taking care of my daugther", because when this anime promises, it delivers, the anime wasn't afraid to kill the MC off, and Nowak wouldn't be telling them he was an inquisitor for nothing...

This has to be the best episode ever since episode 3 (although episode 9 was really good too)!

This episode did a great job introducing the training of the inquisitors, their morals, and their belief that what they’re doing is right.

After that, we see them go to a bar, where Nowak suddenly appears and reveals that he’s his father. Even though I already knew this, the tension in that moment was incredible. And of course, just when Oczy thinks they’re safe, Nowak comes back—creating a fantastic cliffhanger filled with suspense. I just hope nobody dies in the next episode, please.

I've always been fascinated by the instruments of torture that inquisitors use during their interrogations. You have to be incredibly cold-hearted to take on such a role, and those rookie inquisitors definitely realized that when they met Nowak. I wonder: does having someone like Nowak as an inquisitor instructor count as a blessing or a curse? On the one hand, he's undoubtedly skilled, but on the other, his mere presence is terrifying.

Anxiety skyrocketed when Nowak appeared. If he was already tense, I can't imagine how Oczy must have felt at that moment. The reason Nowak sought out Badeni and Oczy is perhaps related to the book Piast dropped after his death in the previous episode.

It's bad enough that Nowak is after you for heresy, but now it's personal because they've involved Jolenta. Things are about to escalate in a very dangerous way. I just hope that Jolenta hasn't really left, otherwise it will be very difficult for Ozcy to take care of Nowak.

ABSOLUTE CINEMA EPISODE 🤯🤯. Starting off with two new characters, which I think they were very well-written. Their naiveness will definitely add more interesting perspectives to the religious side. This episode really reached its peak when Novak met Oxy's group. I really like how Novak's character is designed: he's an unpredictable, obscure person filled with deep thoughts and mystery in his eyes, which made the conversation at the table scene more gripping. Can't wait to see the upcoming episode!

Oh Jesus. Badeni and Oczy are done for. We'll see about Jolenta, but I don't have high hopes. Even if Nowak tries to hide her involvement, there's other inquisitors, like the two he was training. I have a feeling that training scene was foreshadowing. We might get another OP face reveal soon.

FUCK

Also, Badeni is WAY too carefree about the topic of astronomy/astrology.

I only wonder whether it was that topic that made Nowak return or he actually realized that it's Oczy just from having seen his eyes or mannerisms.

Since the episode ended the way it did, I kinda don't expect next episode to start with a quick double kill, so at least one of the two will survive. Although both have red flags: Badeni wanted to write a letter but didn't, saying "I'll have time for this later". And Oczy talked about his beautiful future plans of studying, which is just as revolutionary as the other two's plans, escaping his lower class and working towards a better life. So both him and Badeni are written to end in a tragic death :/ I really hope they don't both die.
If you haven't watched "Fantastic Children", don't talk about "best anime". Thank you.

Terror manifests itself in the simplest and most difficult situation. We had Nowak teaching the new inquisitors, I feel like the scene could have been more cruel. There was a lack of more expression of nervousness in those boys that Nowak was teaching, there was a lack of scenes of the torture itself showing the location of the pain. This scene was well done, but it still lacked more "emotion" and "adrenaline", if you know what I mean. But it was still "ok".

The episode continued after that torture scene to the eventual meeting of our trio of current protagonists.

Seeing Oczy finally wanting to grow up and study at a university made me think that in the future he will, perhaps, be someone great. I support him, because I believe that knowledge should be validated for everyone, without limitations of class, gender, ethnicity... Anyway, I'm glad that Oczy thought about following a dream.

Despite that... That final appearance of Nowak in the tavern left me a little shocked, poor Oczy, I feel like he might die in the next episodes... Good thing Nowak won't hurt the jolenta...I hope.

That final scene was really impactful and left me wanting more. It was a decent episode, the torture could have been better elaborated but that's just a small detail. That said, I'm looking forward to the next episode!

@Nefregar The translations have been a bit iffy for sometime now. Last time, they translated 知 as truth when knowledge or wisdom would be the actual translation. The words they are choosing are close enough to the actual meaning so it isn't too bad, but I have no idea why they wouldn't just give the actual meaning instead.

That's my understanding as well. The question is why the subtitles translated "knowledge" as "truth" and "blood" as "terror."

My theory is that the translators wanted English words for those 3 characters that sounded the same as well. Which is obviously not possible.

So they compromised by picking words that mean something similar to those 3 and all start with the same letter, which in this case is "t." "Truth" is in the same ballpark as "knowledge," and "terror" is somewhat close to "blood."

They never translated "earth" in a strange way (as far as I could tell), but it could be translated as "terra," which is Latin for earth. If they do end up doing that, we'd have a T-trifecta:

Terra
Truth
Terror

Regardless of the real reason, these translations are pretty awkward, but I'm guessing it's not exactly wrong.

@Zarutaku I was also shocked, but I think it kind of makes sense...

1. He just finished his paper which may very well change human history. That might've got to his head and made him feel unstoppable.

2. The man has a massive ego. In his flashback, he claims that he alone can unravel the mysteries of God's creation, and in the present he laughs at the commoners' attempts to gain knowledge. He's proud that he's a scholar and an astronomer.

3. He's been reckless from time to time. In his flashback, he just can't help himself from picking up that forbidden text, even after he was found out. Also, he never really cared about how he interacts with people, often offending and looking down on them.

4. Maybe he's a bit drunk...

oops, I didn't read the first poster's question well and didn't answer his question.
---
The comics has no subtitle through the serialization. It's anime original. The director or someone thought it's cool or kind to set explicit words. As for English subtitle, someone would have thought Japanese homonymous technique couldn't be used and applied words that suit to the contents of the episodes. I didn't try to speculate any further.
---
Incidentally, from the reason mentioned above, the English title "orb" is... not proper.

Badeni mentioning astronomy is not that strange or unusual, he had to give a reason why him and Oczy came in contact with Jolenta, and that is a valid reason since she is working at Piast's laboratory. Badeni obviously couldnt know that Nowak is in fact an inquisitor and problems would arise only if someone goes on talking about heliocentrism and such

That 1st part was the most unflinching portrayal of psychopathic evil I have seen in anime. I was ready to drop this show on the spot "this is too much".
And please don't even mention the word "brainwashed" that's not even funny..
Anyhow if I was Badeni or Oczy the first thing I would do is kill that scumbag like a rocket and flee, the situation then couldn't really be any worse than it already is.
I really like this show but if anything bad happens to Jolenta I WILL drop it. She is my hope and my joy..
