Another episode with a date. This time, it's on the Ferris Wheel..I swear this anime is just a date fest sometimes. Not surprising given its rom-com nature.

Looks like this episode decided to build further into Jun and Naori's relationship. Naori's scenes were adorable though, more than I had expected this episode.

Well looks like things are getting complicated with that cliffhanger.
The male lead seems more interested in Rumi and Rumi is pushing him away meanwhile Naori is on the offensive but the main doesn't want to go along with her advances.
Seems that Rumi and the male lead need to make up their minds the question is what will happen with Naori.

Oh shit things got SPICY after Naori and Jun’s date.

Naori may act like this nerdy otaku innocent girl but I think she knows Jun still has feelings for Rumi and is trying to move in for the kill. Nearly getting suffocated by titties is how most men would love to go out, but it has to be the right titties..

Jun still very much is in love with Rumi and all throughout this episode when he should’ve been mentally locked in on the Naori date, all he could think about was his time with Rumi. Couldn’t even go the distance with a girl who’s throwing herself at him because he remembers how Rumi wasn’t ready. “We’re not dating, to me at least” umm ok then what are yall doing 😭

As a Rumi stan I’m hoping this means they will eventually get back together. There has to be a sense of things being left unfinished with them lingering in him. Yea, Naori might have the advantage because they’re into the same nerdy shit, but Rumi was his first girlfriend and clearly still has his heart.

Best girl allegiances aside, credit where it’s due, I love cute girls who can dress trendy and Naori ate that date outfit up. The chief gave her some amazing fashion advice. Ok sis 😭

Also, a Satoshi Kon, Inception and Anno reference in this episode?? This might be the best ep of the year, all my goats in one episode 😭

Watching Naori be so in love while it's obvious Jun isn't was depressing. Knowing that she already knew he hadn't fallen out of love with Rumi yet was extra depressing. It's such a shame too since their date looked admittedly pretty adorable despite how soulless it was.

I can't lie, I cared more for the location of the date than I did the actual substance of the episode.

I was in Tokyo last week and literally went to the same aquarium and the same Ferris wheel and couldnt get over how familiar it all was lol.

On the premise of the actual plot though, I'm almost feeling School Days vibes off of this. The MC seems to have a higher moral compass than Makoto though and I genuinely feel he shouldn't date either of them and keep them as friends.

Ridiculous how the male MC got big melons shoved on his face by his girlfriend, and he stopped her because he was thinking of another girl who was not his girlfriend.

How ridiculous.

I’m so confused as to what happen at the end. Like did Naori break things off with him or not😵‍💫 it’s clear as day Jun and Rumi still have feelings for each other. I’ve never read the light novel but now I’m going to have to because of the cliffhanger!!

I'm a mature adult and I didn't think of anything sussy during the fishy smell scene....Well, judging by the horny energy that was all over the episode I wouldn't be surprised if that was a deliberate innuendo to certain body fluids. Naori looked a lot like Marin this episode btw.

And lol @ referencing Paprika.

The only way this ends is all of them single. The sisters have violated so many girl/sister codes and mmc needs to grow a pair. I haven’t read the LN or Manga but the way the emotions of each character is deeply depicted. You just know it’s s all headed towards heart break. Sucks because if not for the initial complications, you just know he would grow old with either fmc 😭😭😭

For me, Naori and Jun give off a lot of friend vibes, I can't see them together, even though the drama is making this explicit so far... I mean, Jun is very soft and Naori seems to have superficial attitudes compared to to Rumi... I want to see how Naori will overcome this.

I see it the same way, Naori and Jun are more like Besties with the occational flirty behaviour together, but outside of same interests, there just seems to be no depth between them two. This is nothing bad in itself, but it's not enough for a healthy relationship in that sence, at least to me. And although I was Camp Naori before, she does not seem to be the right fit for Jun. Also, I don't know if she acts like all this to protect herself from harm behind a wall, but her feelings came off as kind of "shallow"? Dunno how to phrase it properly and I mean we knew she was hurt by Jun being together with Rumi and stuff, but Naori feels... kinda cold? Kinda calculating, kinda like the villain there.... I'm anxious to see where this all is heading to :x

Seems like Naori suspected Jun's heart wasn't in it the whole time, so I wouldn't really consider that ending a cliffhanger. I'd choose Rumi, but I feel like the sooner he gets back together with her, the lower the chance of them ending up together. Just a hunch.

Also, I'm trying not to think about how the extra character in the OP and ED might complicate (or perhaps simplify 🤔) things.

@Densema Brilliant, it summed up everything I'm feeling about work so far....
When I started I thought it would be a job that would make me cry (like oregairu) but so far I haven't created any sympathy for Naori and it must be exactly what you said, she acts very cautiously and in the last scenes of EP 4 when she "moved forward" "it seemed superficial... well we're 1/3 of the way through the anime.

@Inexplicable I agree, show is a bit of a pain to get through. I'm watching in high speed until it improves.

I like Rumi more. Naori and MC talk about too much nerdy shit.

I wish this show were better than it presently is.

Seeing the ratings on anime like this make me wonder how many people have brain damage or something.

It's been a while since the last anime came out that felt like this, where the conversations and interactions were extremely natural and realistic, it's so immersive. It's a cute romance with extremely cute interactions and a joy to watch.

The plethora of quotes that even put a fiction nerd like me to shame holyshit. There's so much stuff in here i never thought they'd ever reference (especially in sci-fi etc).

The only thing that i ALWAYS hope/want to see with triangles though... is that all 3 managing to get together somehow in the end. I hate seeing one person get their happiness and the other losing simply because of stupid monogamous societal traditions.

Naori is definitely my type of gal tho.

Hmm, there aren't any Koreans in the credits, so it's not like they filtered because of that... They may have just choses to play it safe for all audiences, and especially for western market (particularly since the credit card fiascos and niconico attack). There's so much western media reference, that they probably were anticipating western audience appeal (which they've been shown has too many hypersensitive loud voices).

This anime is just torture for the male MC and the audiance.

I can't stand how these two twins are toying with him, caring more about themselves than about actually being with him.

I see not point to anything that going on.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Well, Jun may have saw Naori as his rival whilst Rumi jumps onto the love bandwagon early, but honestly, the latter shouldn't have given up her love for Jun for the one that only saw him not as her equal.

That said, Naori is definitely tackling the love bandwagon rather differently, though a talk with Kamedake reveals that she isn't as prepared as she thought she would be. At least she seems elated, and is well suited for the Kasai Marine Park date with Jun, even if the trio have been to the aquarium before as children.

Hah, Kamehara really prepared Naori for the wind breezing moment, and Jun didn't just see her panties, but her ass too as well, he's got his priorities right. And as Rumi focuses on her basketball prefecturals, only to lose badly, her friend Asano being in a dilemma herself having a boyfriend and wanting to have sex, she's teasing Rumi quite a bit for her friend to have that feeling as well. And as it turns out, Naori didn't just love Jun, but it's her competitive spirit that set her up this way, and he acknowledges how far she has come.

Naori may be ready to have sex with Jun, but deep within his mind, he's still thinking of Rumi, and that is quite the dissatisfaction on her face.

Amidst fluttering feelings, what is Jun's decision between the twins?

Most men would be frustrated with Jun as they would love to be in his situation where he could have easily smashed Naori. But ugh.

I can understand, but I'm enjoying this.

I love the Evangelion and the Inception references. The Proust effect is a bit stretched. Although the show is correct about smell, it's not the place to discuss that it's about involuntary memory.

I didn't read the early ranobe, but for the sake of interest I looked at the manga and just fell on the chapters with the kiss and the date, and I'll say this, the adaptation completely loses the manga: there's not much comedy, the scene with the pantsu is not only reduced to one frame, it's not even shown to the audience, and most importantly the scene with the kiss, in the manga Jun represents Rumi, that she's the one kissing him,not her sister.

Ugh, Naori is so obnoxious. My initial impression on her went down pretty fast. Rumi is not very likeable either, with her weird plan on dating only to break up. All I want to say to the MC is, dude, there's like... a secret third option. You don't have to day any of them.

@Densema I feel this is the way that the show wants to depict the situation. Which kinda irritates me. Naori hasn't done anything bad, but the show portrays her in a bad light. You sum it pretty well. Also remember the gossiping about her being manipulative?
On the other hand, Rumi is a prime example of righteous stupid and she hurt the MC by dropping him. But now, in essence, she and the MC are cucking Naori? Naori and MC are in a relationship, but Rumi and he get close to each other time and time again. Yet, again, the show doesn't depict this in a negative light, rather a romantic one.

Naori is kind of my ideal girlfriend (other than being waaay too young), so I find myself getting more and more frustrated with the series' treatment of her.

I'm also getting bored of Jun having no real personality or apparent will of his own. I don't care about him being wishy-washy. Anyone would be confused and conflicted in his position. I just feel like he's a nonentity. An audience-insertion character. I guess that's not really my thing in romance.

I keep watching because I love Naori, but I don't know how long I'll hold out.

considering how heavy ep1 was I expected a bit more. After 3 more episodes I don't feel like anything changed or developed, the MC is on pace with a snail when it comes to coming to terms with his feelings. It's also pretty cheap how the notable things only happen at the very end, this episode felt like a nothing burger up until the end

I swear to god I'll be fuming if the pacing doesn't change going forward. I'm not saying this genre is known for being more sophisticated than this story, but this really feels like a dragged out melodrama (and they're not even try to hide it) which should've been resolved in 2 episodes at most, well at least if the rest of the episodes will have the same pace. For me this anime had one of the best first episodes I've seen so far when it comes to drama and setting up the story, but what came after is a pretty steep downhill

@Schlemmes probably Jun wanted to have sex, though he seems to be a wimp that he could not be straightforward asking it.

The scene was juxtoposed with Naori's seduction, which is why I think he wanted sex.

@Riptos This is Tokyo Sea Life Park, right? I wonder if I could do disney sea in the same day too since they're both relatively close.

This is also funnily enough not the only anime that references School Days (ep 3 for this anime) this season! ぶいでん makes an even flashier mention of the vn/anime towards the middle of ep 4 lol.

@EatATalkyMouse Yeah it is. I doubt you would need to reserve tickets for it as there wasn't a queue when I was there.

It's obvious Jun still wants Rumi, he's constantly thinking of her and flashing back to memories, and when Naori said "there has to be love" he immediately got awkward. I'd also like to know what happened at the ferris wheel with Rumi, my assumption was a fear of heights.

The only fair thing to do is stop dating Naori until he sorts his feelings OR goes back to Rumi, if she'll allow it, which she should since he's also all she thinks about. I'd also really love a trio harem ending, but I sincerely doubt that will be the route it goes.

I very much enjoy the nerd bickering, but the drama in the background just makes it all that less enjoyable.

@razisgosu Naori's character is actually brilliant, everything else about this series just feels one-dimensional. It could be so much better. Honestly, if the Professor wasn't such a horny bastard, he would make a better main character. The drama just plays out poorly, Jun doesn't get to have his own feelings, but neither do the twins. The first one took Jun's heart and then crushed it thinking she could let her younger sister enjoy him. Yeah, they're dumb children but geez this is just poor writing. Maybe the LN and manga do a better job with these aspects, the anime just smells like wet cardboard.
