I heard good things about it from the people who watched it in theatre, so I was hyped for it.

Episode 1 definitely lives upto the expectation.

More on topic, it looks like Britannia fell and rebuilt following Lelouch's demise and we have two (three?) new characters.

I thought Roze's had same powers as Lelouch, but it seems it's not exactly the same.

What do you think about the come back of the Geass ?
I'm a little skeptical, it was a fine episode but I was expecting more epicness from the first episode. And it would have been cool to see the main character directly a woman and not in disguise but it's my opinion. And what's the connection between sakura and sakuya ? Twins ? Hum...But she said she's her best friend...

Is a story where the core is about siblings, is about a resistance, begin with the chess obsession, have giant robots, and the Geass. This is really Code Geass.

How many Sumeragi's are around?

Now the prison is in the middle of the water and still called Abashiri.

So we have racism, chess, mechs, and magical eyes. This show is definitely Code Geass! Roze is already an intriguing protagonist. I didn't expect their alter ego to be their every day appearance!

Well that was one Hilarious twist.

Code GEASS is known for them
Looks like a fine story could be easy time pass but have no hopes without Lelouch.

The female Lelouch bait just won't work well might have in 2014.
Does looks like a original story not a copy of other one like previous show was.

This is the peace Lelouch worked so hard for yeah. As an episode it wasn't bad, good old oppression and resistance and the heroes of justice with geass. But that doesn't mean I like how they revived the series for money but I don't even feel like complaining. Prolly gonna watch a few episodes and see how things go and drop/continue.

Better than I thought it would be, but the mech fight was pretty lame. Guy powered up and then it was just lame "I'm going to run circles around you without any of you even so much as moving". It'd be one thing if it looked like he was moving fast, but it really didn't.

Also not sure, but is the older guy unaware Roze is someone else in disguise? She puts her voice changer back on before responding to him at the end. Maybe he's affected by her Geass and on his own road to redemption?

I liked that they show some more lore about what happened after the Zero Requiem. Makes sense that there's a lot of chaos in Britannia, but it's a bit boring that it's about Japan again. Maybe that does make sense though, since Japan was the birthplace of the Black Knights, so Britannians must have a grudge against it. I'm glad that Lelouch is not the main character. After the Resurrection movie, he's too op. He must remain a background character from now on.

Looking forward to more episodes! This seems to have some promise.

I think Akito had a much more compelling beginning, and I thought some parts were stupid; the Neo-Britannians shooting the Japanese was such a cartoonish way to paint them as evil. Still, I thought the twist was nice, and I'm interested to see where the story goes.

I'm here to watch it and see how it goes but it's so hard to rate a Code Geass story after R1 and R2.

First episode was nice but I'd much rather see the events after Re;surrection than this.

Definitely loved the episode.

It's just sad people are still comparing it to OG when that story has long concluded. We need another story. And most people probably don't know is, with very high probably, this is actually a continuation to R2, so at least let them cook.

Loved this, and really exciting to see a vision of the world after Lelouch. The OG series came out so long ago (as in during childhood vs. adulthood for me personally) that it's really cool to have the world-building move on similarly.

The dynamic with the new characters seems really interesting (like the reveal of the psychic girl) and looking forward to seeing where it goes this season!

@saikyozero
How can you not compare the two when the first "task" in both is to kill the first minor boss of the Britannian faction by a britannian?
Evil oppressive haha laughing bad guy to kill, check.
Geass power and retarded security, check.
No camera recordings of any kind, check.

Watched it out of morbid curiosity with 0 expectations, while it wasn't necessarily bad, this first episode feels like the climax of a story arc that simply does.. not exist.

I'm always down for more Code Geass so I will watch it through, but this being in Japan just kinda feels like a spit in the face of the zero requiem. Also god knows Suzaku, Kallen and the black knights would never allow it. I suspect there is a bigger reason why they aren't here right now, same goes for Lelouch (This is movie canon guys).

Hope female mc loses the male disguise in the future, maybe for a new masked vigilante~

Most of this episode just felt like a rehashing of the original Code Geass and was incredibly predictable. That twist on Roze's true identity came out of nowhere though. I don't particularly feel one way or another about this series yet. It didn't really grab me, but at the same time it's not like it's doing anything to put me off either. Lets see how it plays out.

Though I'm not actually sure how Roze's disguise works. Shouldn't she look Asian?

Also, Lord Norland has major "returning character so wearing a mask" vibes. The only one I can think of he could be is Diethard though. That would be dumb.

@Kenpls They mentioned some sort of wall that kept the Black Knights out despite them trying to launch an invasion twice or something like that. Though Hokkaido probably isn't self sufficient so they probably have to open the wall up somewhat. Thus small groups probably could sneak in, so you would think that they'd be help the resistance. Maybe they will later.

Mixed feelings from this. On its own anime seems good, but...its stupid how now out of nowhere there is technologies to isolate certain territory. Eve more so assicaly HQ of Black Knights. Mechs now looks more skinny and tho combat looks good to me its now more on super robot side. Sakuya having same geass as Lelouch is boring, would e etter if it actually required to give target an options. Also I understand that Neo-Britania are posers, but now it seems so easy to deal with its high officials not needing tactics, funds and organisation. Overall everything new seems interesting but repeated elements and tropes looks lame

@thepath Have the same surname, have similar looks. Wow, I wonder if she's related.

I feel like some people were making a little too much of a big deal of the absense of Lelouch. For someone who's coming of Gundam, this is just the norm.

I have low expectations, so hopefully I don't get disappointed like Akito did. FWIW, the CGI mecha looks fairly decent, certainly a lot better than other recent mecha anime.

Roze being a Sumeragi makes the story seem like they are going to give us an interesting premise and do absolutely nothing with it.

Also the Sakuradite in Code Geass explained why Japan, a country without notable resources would be a target. Without an explanation, it's nonsensical that things are taking place in Japan again.

That Sunrise Beyond mecha anime from a few years back did a good job showing why Japan has no business being oppressed if it has nothing going for it. I doubt this anime will sink to that animes level, but hopefully, they can give us a better reason why things are shaking out this way.

The bird was drawn very well.

To be fair, it took a few episodes for Code Geass to come with the shits, but that anime was 24 episodes and this anime is 12 episodes. I hope this doesn't turn into another G-Witch where they have more story than episodes to work with, and the anime suffers as a result.

For all the flaws Akito had, it kept the story small and simple, so it was harder for it to be a disappointment.

Technically, the last Code Geass movie showed Zero Requiem wouldn't be enough to save the day for everyone. All the same, the narrator still did 2 seasons of Code Geass dirty in the way he explained the state of the world. Hopefully they can make time to let us know what's really going on right now.

The pacing of this episode is nothing short of disastrous. The events we saw play out should have taken 3 or 4 episodes in an anime with proper pacing, but being done here in a single episode makes them feel utterly hollow.

It's like 75% exposition to rush through backstory to get the plot moving, but it's an absolute mess.

This is going to be a disaster of an anime, and I'm all here for it.

@Atavistic

I don't agree with you. This was a very straightforward episode. The pacing was fine. What you're asking would be decompression...so much decompression that it would be eminently boring to watch.

There is some exposition, something that is rather common at the beginning of a series, but I didn't find it particularly difficult to follow.

Then again, I suppose some works are simply not meant to be appreciated by everyone.

This will definitely be a wonderful ride.
Sakuya, then Sakura?! I like the new concept.
And since they were kids? I see, I see. How lovely!

Anyway, what's not lovely about this is we get to see Britannia enslaving the Japanese again in a really nasty way. Well, more nastier, from the looks of it. They can't even get away from the island.

The hardwork and sacrifices of Lelouch is going down the drain as of this moment, sadly.

While I do think Lelouch won't be appearing in this series, doubtfully. I am still interested in this series.

However, I hope they will create another series where L.L. and C.C. are on an adventure. Fans like me would be more delighted to see them animated again.

P.S. Geass through your ear... Overpowered and Epic.
While I did once thought that I might've outgrown this series, after watching this, I don't think so.
CrazyButNot4UJun 22, 11:25 PM
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Neo-ZeonBritannia is here to bring us war crimes galore. Even their Char Clone leader(?) only has a masquerade mask and not a full face covering like Zero.

The Kirkwayne bros jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with Neo-Britannia as soon as that interbellum period ended, shooting Japanese for sport.

NGL I dig the main Knightmare design. I wonder if Ash is really in on the Rozé facade or did Sakuya also use geass on him.
The nameless mercenaries act has gotten Sakuya to Abashiri where Sakura is imprisoned.
