I started it due to the romance genre and the big 'masterpiece' rumour surrounding it but im 10 episodes in and at this point i think the romance will be between Hachiman and Totsuka as he seems completely uninterested in anything else with his 'born to be alone' shenanigans and the main heroines being a typical tsundere cutie and a walking statue. Does it actually get better with the romance and supposedly drama thing as im completely uninterested in watching 39 episodes only for the 'real thing' to kick in the last 3. Please share your opinions on the topic. Thanks!

Tbh I watched it along time ago and rated it an 8, I've forgotten most of it now but from what I can remember the romance comes into play way later on, the rest of it is just slice of life.

The first season is a harder bump to get over but is important to the narrative and is partly what makes the later seasons good

Just watch it and evaluate it by your own. I don’t remember many things from the season 1 and 2, but I know I really enjoyed it since I watched it weekly when it was releasing. Maybe I can be wrong, the season 1 was more into a slice of life with a little drama( laying the groundwork basically). In season 2, things truly started to get interesting and we were able to see the relationships getting deep and meaningful, also side characters got more screen time. Season 3 was a masterpiece( sad the heroine I chose lost :/). I will rewatch the series with all the OVAs I didn’t watched before.

the first season was very boring IMO.

I REALLY enjoyed the season season.

I liked the third season as that when it gets real

ultimately it has to be my second favourite romance

Absolutely. I think season 1 was the worst by far and season 2 and 3 take it to a whole different level. One of my fav shows of all time.

Seasons 2 and 3 are absolute bangers and have a lot of romance. Season 1 is more psychologically oriented and, more or less, just serves as the “getting to know / introducing the characters” season, whereas seasons 2 and 3 are heavy on romance, while still keeping the psychological complexity of the story and the characters.

Seasons 2 and 3 are a lot more interesting than the first one. As for the romance - it is mainly in S3. But this anime has one of the best confessions in the romance genre imo.

And also, don’t worry, there’ll be much fewer Totsuka appearances.

Like the other opinions S2/3 is better, higher drama intensity/less unnecessary comedy, I guess the new studio just did a better job. I thought it became very melodramatic so make sure to take everything seriously even if you're thinking "it ain't that deep it's no big deal lol"

what they said and depends on how much your anime-watching time is worth.

If you can only squeeze in 1-2 eps per day, then you are better off watch something like Horimiya, my dressed up darling, or even Kaguya Chunibyo, bloom into you (if u don't mind Yuri).

Am I the only one who thinks that the first season is the best out of three? The animation style is somewhat cuter(well yeah, it is better later on, but these rough edges and simple shadows are reminding me of some 00s bangers like Monogatari and Code Geass), Hachiman is still undeveloped and throws in sigma male quotes every time he opens his mouth

But, Iroha appears only in the second season, and this is a great shame. Definitely the best girl.

I finished the whole series and found it extremely boring I just didn’t get what was so good and wholesome about this anime but I’m planning to give it second chance someday. The art style is also pretty bad.

this is a either love it or hate it anime. Either you agree with the MC's point of view and think it's really interesting or you disagree and therefore it's boring and useless. if you've made it 10 episodes and still don't like it then you should drop it. For me it was a 10/10 but you have to like the main character otherwise it will not interest you.

you're gonna get a lot of people saying yes, but your thoughts from the start are exactly what I felt and I regretted finishing it, and i LOVE romance. it's obvious how it ends, and the main heroine stays a boring statue throughout. no real drama. BUT, if you liked Toradora you'll like this mess.

I disagree that you have to agree with Hachiman's point of view to like it cos the fun of the story is watching him and everyone around him change and question the status quo of their relationships.

But yeeah Oregairu is this weird blend of being "different" while still following the standard tropes and narrative beats of a typical high school drama.

I had the opposite experience of alot of the other commenters. I really liked the show at first, but it started to get repetitive and boring in my opinion. It felt like there was going to be no resolution until the end and that the show was just dragging me along.

Personally, I don’t think it’s worth watching.

I was the same at first, I didnt find it boring but rated it a 6 out of 10. The conflicts and drama can be unessecary complex sometimes, but the quality increases with each season in my opinion, both the writing and the animation/art style. To me it goes:

Season 1: 6/10

Season 2: 7/10

Season 3: 8/10

Really solid characters and drama by the end and comes to a satisfying conclusion despite which girl you shipped him with in my opinion.

s1 is not really focused on the romance but s2 and s3 picks that up. especially s3 it's an all out war.

Season 1 is a GREAT comedy. Not a great romance, but it's important to the story. Season 2 is a great comedy and a great romance. Season 3 is a good comedy, and a GREAT romance. If you keep watching, keep this in mind. Story gets better and better throughout.

Almost half of the second season is boring and super repetitive. He can atleast skip the meeting arc where they discuss things with another school.

No. That's asking for trouble by skipping the development of events and characterizations. Oregairu is heavily dependent on presentation and subtext. To skip that is like not watching it whatsoever. Plus, what you found boring might not be for some given they can see what the series is presenting in front of their eyes.
