Yikes, forced to take on Team V...

This episode was spelling disaster for Team Z because it's a must win for them or be eliminated. On the other hand, I admire Yoichi's determination to get stronger at any cost. He's gotta surpass his own limits and expectations to break into victory.

Characters in blue lock aren't meant to be taken seriously, not a single one. See Reo for instance, dude's the son of a mega billionaire whose mama’s voiced by Hayami Saori, though he still refuses to just sit back and enjoy the heck out of life, instead he aims to ace the world cup.. like just stop with the impossible and enjoy the Richie Rich life.

Team Z is about to play the top dog team V, it’s only normal for them, specifically Isagi to feel helpless cuz he still thinks he’s no more than a fluke. So who will he ask for help? Easy, edgiest boy in the town, King Barou. Dude’s top scorer, but his vocabulary still sucks. He showed Isagi the mirror, and it’s no understatement he has plenty to work and improve upon.

It’s already on the way, Team Z vs Team V. One heck of a match it’ll be. Though the duo of Nagi and Reo already showing their colours, one up already.

Well... now that Japan has won against Germany... it's time that the boys also win against Team V. The loss is not accepted by any means. Team V is the strongest of them all but if you need to move forward, a win is needed. The tie is not gonna do anything. Isagi is still doubting himself and why not, he's facing his strongest opponent to date. Barou is really fucking cool. Our boys have to improve and the path is just gonna be tougher from here on out. It'll be interesting to see the Nagi-Reo duo.

Oh yes! I felt that too! Most of it felt off, the animation at the end felt fine though, once the match started.

Didn't expect Isagi to go to Barou for help like that. Asking the strongest player you know for advice. Good thinking, Isagi. Now, I like Barou even more. He's just too cool and passionate.

Oooooh higher stakes now, this is getting real interesting. Not that it wasn't before, but I'm starting to like this opposing team in particular, like they actually have something to offer to the show. Liking the little backstory of the rich guy too. Also liking Isagi and Bachira's relationship development.
Still not sorry for Kuon, he can go die in a ditch.
I mean I've already spoiled myself as to what is gonna happen (and I think it's obvious), but I'm seriously considering reading manga at this point bc it's just so exciting and I can't wait another week each time!! I'm especially worked up now bc of the World Cup going on in *our* world.
Man, all I do these days is watch things football related and get worked up lol

Pretty much forgot about the training with Barou. I rock with the guy.

The opening to the match against team V is nice. Blue Lock is turning up from here.

Team Z on the verge of elimination, they need to secure a win against the unbeaten Team V to secure their 2nd place block spot.

The 3 most prominent people: Zantetsu Tsurugi, Reo Mikage, and Nagi Seishiro. Most particularly to both Reo and Nagi, Reo's life was just one unfortunate thing one after the another, and his dream was spotted of people winning the World Cup, plus the coincidental meet of Nagi that proceeds his dream team forward to end his boredom of a life.

Back to Team Z, Kuon would not just play for free in order to reach his goals of going to the World Cup, and teamwork is essential in getting a top-placed position. This is further edged by Ego doing an explanation of a team player trying his best to score goals, then internalize that process to reproduce unique scores of goals. And for Isagi, it's looking for Team X's top scorer Barou Shohei.

The relentless Barou Shohei teaching the spatial awareness brainless hack, and Isagi definitely got an idea of how he wants to create his scores of goals, but still didn't know what could activate his ability to make it happen. It's only until the match that the 10-man Team Z can only see their abilities work. The final game against the strongest team, and thus following the only strategy they have, it's the start of a relentless match...of Reo and Nagi's tactic that they saw that day, repeated right here in the stadium to earn them their first goal.

Work it out, Team Z. You're gonna need it.

I feel like most of matches from now are going to be like this. The other teams character is first introduced briefly and then the match starts afterwards showing their amazing skills. But hey, its not like I dislike that, though saying that. It may become boring later in the show.

OMG, another banger of an episode. Ego calls Kuon out on his betrayal and even says that Team Z are riding on luck and they need to reproduce their goals, kind of what Barou is doing.

I didn't even expect Team Z vs V to be in this episode but boy has it already delivered with such little time. Out of all the matches, we've had so far, this definitely gives the vibe of an actual football match the most. Alot is on the line here.

Team Z has a good strategy, I hope that their hopes will not be crushed by Reo and Nagi copying their play so easily and scoring from it as well.

LMAOOO rip the art and animation, so many derpy faces and awkward poses. Especially in the Isagi vs. Barou segment. But I don't care about Barou, so whatever. Most likely an outsourced episode. They're definitely saving the budget for this Team Z vs. Team V match. The art style and animation in the last few minutes looked much better than the rest. Reo passing the ball to Nagi and Nagi controlling the ball and scoring was animated pretty well. Well, aside from that three seconds of CGI Nagi running lol. And REOOOO my boy. Excited for the next episode.

Good episode! Team Z is getting better and better because their enemies are tougher with each match.

There was this one interesting idea I read in comments while watching the episode: "is it just me or does isagi look like the main girl from peace hame"

Now that I think about it, they're actually similar :D Isagi must be her brother lol

Team Z is in a must win situation against Team V just like Team USA needs to win against Iran on Tuesday if they want to advance out of the group stage. Ego challenged them manufacture goals rather than relying on goals by chance or luck. The biggest threat on Team V is Nagi, that guy is a freak of nature for someone who wants to sit around and do nothing.

Disclaimer: I wrote this while half asleep and therefore grouchy, please don't come at me

Sorry if there are any spelling mistakes or grammar mistakes or if I was too rude, it's very early in the morning for me (I stayed up to watch this episode) and I have a headache and I'm really tired

I will be mainly talking about what I didn't like which is mostly the characters looking off or whatever and not really about the story

So story aside, heir faces were disproportionate and looked wrong on multiple occasions which was a bit off putting (for example at 34 seconds, isagi looks like he was drawn with a different art style then at 36s kunigami looks goofy, 1:18 reo looks odd)

Isagi didnt look like isagi, his eyes changed shapes a few times and sometimes his faces was unusually wide of some features were slightly off which would be fine if it was one or two times but it happened on several occoasions

Reo didn't look like reo either, like he did but not at the same time. The artstyle is different to the manga

the scene where ego was talking about the formula of a goal was good though, apart from very very minor stuff (isagi looking weird as i mentioned above), it was great

Barou vs Isagi was weird.

at 13:47 barou looked goofy asf, the ego thingy was also badly done as you can tell its on the layer before barou and it looked like a preset of some sort. Barou looked like he was high on something and the muscles were interesting to say the least, immediately after isagi looks like hes an isekai mc but then they semi redeem themselves as the scene afterwards barou's muscles look correct

then they do some weird background thing which looks off for some reason, i'm not a pro in animation so I cant tell you why

there were many times they had one well drawn image and just added a moving background and animated small parts like the hair (eg 15:44) which again, is fine but it feels rushed

16:19 barous eyes were underwhelming and the kick was alright but his foot paused for a second and the black lines that replaced the usual blur was obvious because of that, the kick itself was nice as the sound effect made up for the animation and the pose barou was in was funny

16:41 was good, i like the subtle perspective

Overall it wasn't very well done apart from a few scenes, I know that animating is a tough job and we cant always expect the best of the best but this was a little disappointing

hopefully this is a one time thing as the adaptation has been really good so far and maybe something happened during the production which led to this episode being lower quality than usual, I hope the animators are prioritizing their health over the animation

again, please don't come at me because the last time I left a negative response (different platform) I was insulted :(

Oh no it's one of these episodes. This also happened with Haikyuu where there's one episode that would be way lower quality cuz it would be animated by a different studio i think. Idk why but I know there's like a reason behind it

Another average episode. The animation looked decent but mostly dog-s**t during some key moments. Something about it is so amateurish that it actually hurts my brain

Kuon is still being a bitch but Ego put him in his place. There's still room for him to come around and I hope that's the case. He is still redeemable but won't care if his character gets axed after this arc. Isagi then fangirls over this Barou guy which I kinda like but some of his model animation was so goofy that it ticked me off completely

Then, the game which was yet another average showcase of below par direction & wanky choreography. The pink haired dude's backstory was boring and convenient. The monster guy looks interesting but we'll see Isagi change his life like every other sports anime, aren't we?

I was promised an enticing & fresh sports anime but so far, it has been disappointing and drab

I think the problem with the basic premise is really starting to shine through the rest of the... story? setup? something.

Ego wants to create a sort of über-striker to make the national team the best, the one to win the world cup - one striker, on the "corpses" of 299 others, whose "whole career" is supposed to end altogether when they inevitably fail, at one point or another. But that's just... not how any of it works? I mean, sure I get the whole national pride angle, especially in the year of an actual world cup, especially now that it's ongoing. And yet, even with my lack of interest in pretty much all actual sports, I know that's not all there is to it. Hell, "national teams" themselves often have a lot of foreign players from any and all parts of the world. Even beyond that, there's a hell of a lot of other opportunities, a bunch of other leagues to play in as professional athletes. There's no way failing this team deathmatch (which in itself is nonsensical anyway) should mean the end of their career as a whole. Dream? Sure, if someone dreams about being in the same league as the likes of, idk, Messi and Ronaldo - but then that kinda ephemeral, really big dreams are just that, too: ephemeral. Good thing to aim for the top, but by the time you're in highschool, especially as you get closer to the end of it than you are from the start, you should be aware of the realities.

Point being: the more they try to hammer home this "my entire career is on the line here!" shtick, the less effective it becomes, and soon enough it'll just turn outright annoying. And when Igaguri laments on having to take over the temple if he doesn't become a soccer player? Dude, it might be less than ideal, but at least you've got a ready-made backup plan to fall back on: that's actually invaluable af. Hell, I'm willing to bet even Reo is more relatable when he tells us nothing his parents have given him has been what he wanted, their actual life circumstances notwithstanding.

On other notes...
Horikoshi might want to check in, because Raichi really feels like a Chinese knockoff Bakugo, voice included which is really quite incredible.
I really don't understand why soccer players have to look like bodybuilders. Especially at this age. Thing's actually going on, everyone can check out any FIFA game, none of those guys look like that. Barou would feel more at home in a Tekken game than he looks here.
Bachira and Isagi's relationship is quite something. I love how absolute soft and intimate Bachira is around Isagi: the body language, his voice in their private convos, the way he speaks even (very informal, very direct, doesn't even use any honorific at all). It's a joy to watch - and it also makes me dread the day these two will inevitably have to face off.
"Wife material Reo" is hilarious, I saw the clip on Twitter after the episode aired in Japan and they posted it, I didn't catch the title itself but that made the entire thing magnitudes better. They feel a bit like they got lost on their way to the EnStars set, not that I mind. lol

Team Z vs Team V is officially started.

Team Z tries to come up with an strategy plan against Team V.

Nagi doesn't care about practice and rather plays his mobile game, then it switches back to the past where they were still young and apparently Reo's family is an rich family. Reo self didn't find anything fun until he discovered soccer. Reo then got to meet Nagi for the first time.

Ego then appears on screen and explains what happens if you are tied. Isagi then goes and asks help by Barou because he's an fast person.

The match then starts against team V and they try to score but it lands on the pole or whatever you call it, they thought they had mastered Team V's tactics but nope, Team V is copying their counter and Nagi scores an goal.

Team Z is now 1-0 behind, and the ep ends there.

Team W unexpectedly gotten draw. Serve them right with what happened previously. So the only good chance is draw too. But how? They need to find a formula, Ego Jinpachi speech them right. Forget Kuon the lowest low, find the formula, Yoichi. Then Sir King Barou taught Yoichi well, but idk how he adapt it to the game against the stupidly genius lazy ass bruh like Nagi? Especially he get supported till the last breath from those insanely rich guy, Reo. Other person at Yoichi team still not receiving a perfect time to shine as well. Maybe Raichi will stop his bs killing intent 24/7 and focus to show the real kill next, or any other plan ahead? So yeah, 3 more episode seems legit enough to end this first selection arc.
