THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- First episode is out on Amazon Prime Japan today. Definitely captured the mood of the show well in terms of presentation. The character designs similarity to Ushio to Tora is also noticable considering it's by the same creator. This show has some unusual humor that I think works overall. Then, there's Masaru and Narumi, two prominent characters that we get to know. I wonder how much background story will be focused this season though as it's fairly important. But I think the first episode is quite promising. This first episode looks promising to me. This might be one good anime most people overlook this season. Haven't read the manga, but I assume it's an old one given the old school drawing style. Love the old school feel here, how nostalgic! Not just the drawing, i don't know what some other things else added together give me the feel. would be glad if anyone else could identify and kindly point that out. Also the bgm is nicely done, gives off circus vibe. |

I can't believe so few people watching this! (Seriously, Mal has the tendency to ignore good shows and watch overhyped trash like Darling in the Franxx/ Food Wars 3rd arc) Even though it's adapted from an old manga, the animation and production quality is so good! (Definitely better than the two hot potatoes this season -> Goblin Slayer and Slim) The combat is super stylish and fluid, and the premise is very intriguing. I don't get why this show doesn't get much attention this season. I heard the original source is a classic series too, and so far the story , and production value are very promising, and the casts are great. I like all of them already from just one episode! (Quick note, I despise all the casts in Darlining the Franxx from first episode and like them less and less as the story progress) Would definitely watch this. |

I hope that they will adapt the manga alrightly, the manga is really dark and gloomy they have to capture the mood right. But the first episode was really good so hope is not lost. |

Bunch of anime which just aired got 100k+ viewers already. Some have 100k+ before airing, some got to near 100k right after first episode. Also many of them are not even good, just hot potato because they're made by big studio. (Darling in the Franxx -> Trigger. Kabaneri / Owari no Seraph -> Wit Studio. All 3 of them are below average ~ mediocre ) |

The mangaka of Ushio no Tora has another beauty in his works, and it shows through the awesome old-school vibes feel from the now 20+ year-old manga. The anime adaptation by new Studio VOLN is great and it shows the 1-to-1 comparison with the manga, definitely loving this series and will most likely see it as an overlooked series. And a 3-cour? Well only about half or 3/4 of the ENTIRE manga volumes spanning 426 chapters, I may be wrong, but if it gets a FULL adaptation that will be great. So far, great start and Chapters 1 and 2 out of the way, and hoping for better things to come. |

This premise is pretty crazy. - a man about to die when he doesn't make people laugh - puppet fights - balls-to-the-walls action scenes (like what the fuck is that train derailing o_o) Also seems like this is a series that won't have any breathers jugding by the cliffhanger, that kid is just constantly getting followed for the big money. |

That was a pretty good start and the animations looked really good I wonder if they can keep that up for 36 episodes. The action scenes were pretty intense. |

I really liked what I saw from this first episode. This looks really promising and I can't wait to see what happens next. I also like how this is a 3 cour show, you don't see that very often now so it's always nice to get a series with that kind of episode count. |

Quite good 1st episode especially on the production side. The main cast is pretty stereotypical yet very entertaining. Let's see how rushed this is gonna be. In later episodes of Ushio and Tora it became clear how much they skipped, when they started to talk about events that never happened in the anime. |

Pretty old school shounen and those designs. A little bothered how coincidentally Shirogane happened to be at that specific circus. Hopefully she gets a new attire, not of fan of the outfit. Opening theme was alright. I like BOC but can't say I cared much for this song compared to their recent anime openings (Kekkai Sensen, 3-gatsu, etc.). Liking that ending song by Lozareena/Teddyloid though. Unleashed_SM said: An old shounen series. For those that don't know. Same creator of Ushio no Tora. I was somewhat ready to see 12 chapt per episode adaptation (especially based from PV) instead surprisingly it went with decent pace (it didn't even adapted 1 vol out of 44..). Thats quite a relief for me. They modernise little bit some of scenarios and overall it was engaging start and shows how it go with some of the crazy ideas. Solid animation/color design, bgm, op/ed and also not to mention character personalities and comedies managed to capture the spirit of u&t adaptation so couldn't ask for more! |

Better cut the fillers / certain less important characters/ events than rushing the main story. This is where P5A failed so miserably. They should have use the time to flash out the main group + palace + enemies instead of spreading screen time on those useless side characters that are still underdeveloped despite wasting screen time on them. |

Yeah the staff made smart move especially author working behind these pacing/senario so nothing possibly can go wrong. Still secretly wishing they will announce another cour for adapting final arc. |

Better than expected, tbh, especially during the scene where Shirogane appears. Both the visuals and the OST were pretty good. The main cast so far seems likeable, with the tough-looking but kind hearted dude (who suffers a weird disease that will kill him if he doesn't makes people laugh), the orphaned rich boy that is being chased by mysterious people and the elegant and graceful manipulator of puppets (surprised she is more emotional of what she looked in the key visuals, I expected her to be a emotionless badass, loved I was wrong). Looking forward this. Liked Ushio to Tora a lot, so I hope this ends being as good. a_sandwich said: Same, lmao. Almost looks intentional xDThey just had to go and cast Koyama Rikiya, huh. The wait was worth it, this is looking damn good. The premise is somewhat unsual, but I don't mind some fresh air. Narumi seems like a solid MC, but his handicap is hilarious. And the best thing is that it's triple cour, looking forward to the rest. Shounen are a strong force this season. PS: BUMP OF CHICKEN provided a nice opening again and the ending is almost better. |

Hey that was alot of fun, pretty prime 1990's shounen fare but I enjoy that hotblooded type of stuff. I enjoyed ushio to tora for the most part but i do hope this overall has a more fuffiling plot, the concept of fighting with automated dolls and puppets i think is overall much more interesting than demons and such anyway so that alone has me pretty excited. |

I love puppets so I really liked this first episode, even though it reminded me that they can be really creepy too, but Harlequin is great! So even though a disease which will kill Narumi if he doesn't make someone laugh or hear a laugh or something, is a bit too much, it was still good! I really, really liked Masaru, I can only imagine his fear while running away, or what he was feeling when he said that it would've been better to die alone instead of dragging someone else with him. He isn't a bratty kid, and he seems to be smart, and good-natured, I would protect him too, just like Narumi did. Shirogane is also really cool, and as a puppet master she seems to be even stronger than Narumi, and this is unusual, and really cool! And it already ended with a cool cliffhanger so sign me up for this one! |

I looked at the seiyu list and went "WHAAAAA?!!!!" in a middle of the night. Hayashibara? Nakata? Sakurai? Fukuyama? ALL IN ONE SHOW?! Sheesh. If they added Sawashiro Miyuki on top I'd watch it even if it was a show about watching paint dry - it would still be great. |

It's not about how the story goes and how people evaulate the story, it's about production value. P5A production value is atrocious, and so are many "good shows" A1 made like Shinsekai Yori, but Shinsekai Yori plot and setting is so strong that despite garbage/ atrocious animation and inconsistent art, it still manage to be an exceptional story thanks to its source. The manga sold 33 million copies in Japan, and has statues of Tora somewhere and even the Japanese Cultural Affair’s Agency ranked it as one if the best manga of all time... Now that doesn’t speak on the quality of the manga (personally I think it’s pretty great) but to say it’s his worse I would say is untrue. Also Karakuri isn’t his most popular either it’s his longest series but it’s not his most popular in comparison to U&T’s 33 million copies sold, Karakuri ended up selling 15 millio. It’s more of a cult classic amongst Japanese fans compared to the iconic status of U&T. I can’t say which is Fujita’s best as I haven’t finished U&T and I’m only watching Karakuri’s anime (mainly due to the fact the manga hasn’t been fully translated) but I’ll get back to you on that some day. |
