THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Seems like they aimed for the final battle in this series between the Mongols and the defenders.

Everyone fights to their end regardless of the odds and unfortunately, there's definitely some that don't make it. Hell, even Jinzaburou gave me a few scares as just how dangerous this war turned out to be. He went to desperate measures to escape from death in the waters. Some questionable scenes from this finale aside, I think the show overall was solid. Good thing Teruhi also survived in the end.

However some didn't make it. Kano's actions this episode was also very emotional to watch.

It took on the historical fiction genre with a story that I felt was engaging from start to finish (wish there's more episodes though)

Sad that Kuchii's trusted men all ended all falling in battle then. Amushi's plan was a brave one but too bad the odds were too much. I can see where Kuchii's daughter got her determination from. It must have been hard walking through that battlefield and seeing the bodies of those that you commanded but couldn't save. That last dual though sure was intense but Kuchii's speech sure was even more impressive. So in the end only Kuchii, Teruhi and some civilians survived the invasion. Quite the intense episode but one that ended the series well. Hope there will be a sequel as hinted.

And that is the message we should get from this. I wonder how much the show's creators were thinking about WW2 in this episode. Few times in modern history has a country been so comprehensively defeated as Japan was, but even after that from the ashes they rebuilt that country and only 20 years later could be considered a success story.

This was a crazy episode, nice way to wrap this show up.

Definitely in my top 5 of Summer 18

Second season is basically a must, but not sure if it's going to happen.

Actually a lot of the militarism in Japan which led to WWII took it's inspiration from the defeat of the Mongols and the kamikaze or divine wind (the storms which sank a large part of the Mongol fleet

It led to a believe that if the Japanese just fought fiercely enough they could defeat any foe and that the kami would always side with the Japanese against any invader

It should be noted that Tsuhima was sacrificed. The troops that were not sent there. They were able to use these troops in Kyushu instead to defeat the Mongols

The ending kinda confuses me as enjoyable as it was. Did Douen and Onitakemaru really die off-screen? What happened to Jinzaburou’s wife and child? Why end the series when the flashforward in ep1 implies he dies on the mainland via a storm of arrows? And what was with the masked English looking guy that Jinzaburou fought in the same episode?

I enjoyed this series, but I feel like theres still more story left to tell.

It ended quite well with all those emotional pile up. Damn Kano's sacrifice was hardbearing to watch. Its at times like these that I think all women must be protected. Really crushing feels to the heart watching it end like this.

Overall they handled the plot with little or less records left very gentle with care. Banzai to those brave warriors who stood till the end. Survival is winning.
When someone asks me why I like anime, I'd say Just Because.

Historically, Mongols tried to invade Japan twice. And both times a Typhoon was the primary reason they failed.

Not really sure what the 2nd season would feature. The fight on Mainland Japan , which wouldn't be as interesting, or the attempt to ... 'repopulate' and rebuild Tsushima?

I like that they took a realistic approach to war, there is no winner. I lost interest in the show as time wore on, as it had become melodramatic and in my eyes seemingly far-fetched.

There are some things the show did well, and others not so well. Styling for the era, making Tsushima feel real were all done very well.

I didn't like the "boss" style feeling high ranking military personnel had. It felt gimmicky and shallow.

The background grainy image grated my nerves over time, but I understood the purpose.

Overall I'm glad I watched it. I wish it had been more historically accurate instead of "loosely based on true events" but we so seldom get anything historically set that I can't be picky.

Really liked Jinzaburou and his ragtag friends, rest in peaces, while characters on the princess and mongol side were weak and forgettable. Got some good fights in, though the show generally made a poor showing of the scale of the battles, and before this final episode, the sense of war. Hope this gets a sequel someday, if nothing else, for the rather unique representation of this period in Japanese history.

It was a great show to watch, the ending was rather polarizing but that is the ugly truth of war; there are no real winners...just the idea of survival in itself. Sad to see this one go and with no way of reading the manga in english, I'm left thoroughly unsatisfied.

EDIT: So the manga is apparently already finished...welp...definitely nothing left to this one.
Don't believe the hype.

ok first of all I fully expected everyone to die in this series. The ending felt cheap. But its also fine with me.

personally if he fought and killed the admiral and died I would have satisfied.

I predicted that someone *staring at hime* would get caught and raped if they lose but not the ninja girl. Nooooo T_T

I guess they left jinza alive so there can be a potential S2. Feels very much like they plan on it since tsushima is but the first part to the mongol war against Japan.

Im kinda sad they kill Amushi though. Kid was genuine.

8/10 for me. But imma put a 10 in my mal rating because too many shit taste people dipping the scores so low. >.>

Douen died on-screen protecting a injured person from a shot if I not mistake. Onitakemaru died or was heavy injured off-screen, Jinzaburou's wife and child died by a disease while he was on war.

This was one of the hell final episode. Until episode 11 I expected brave Tsushima defenders delaying Mongols in cost of great casualities, until deus ex machina Mainland army reinforcements arrives, then deaths came en massé.

And finale did it.

Kuchii Jinzaborou-donno fan club killed to the last in their last stand, kid took a spear through a chest, ogre pirate was killed off-screen (probably brutally by Trans Mongolian commander) Princess of murdered by her own maiden to saving her from fate Kano herself ended (Except she didn't, which little bit ruined experience for me). Btw, was she being killed after or not, I didn't notice her between casualities.

After all, historical anime done right, in my opinion.

The final episode displayed the costs of war very clearly, which is need in this kind of series. The historical fiction genre in Anime is still very new to me, but is really appreciated as a fan of World History. (7/10)

That was one brutal, savage, and depressing ending. Poor Kano...
At least it was somewhat optimistic with Jinzaburou and the princess surviving. Among others.

Honestly would have enjoyed the series a lot more if the entire anime was like these two final episodes.

A military/historical tale with a very narrow focus. I was struck with how likable Jinzaburou ended up being, but I never got the sense that he, or any of the other characters really, were ever personable. Still, this was a pretty solid series that had an interesting visual style despite an obvious lower budget.

Women and children were taken captive and brought on the ships to become slaves (or the local variant of the same social status),
so I think that Kano, being quite attractive, was there too as spoils of war.

Sad to say, but Kano was probably raped, with luck she was killed...

Don't really get what happened to the boy and girl in the sea, but I think they died too like the big guy. They made sure to show who was alive.

What a sad episode :/ I knew that they never had a chance but i always had hope that maybe reinforcements from Japan would come or something else would happen and that they would survive :/
I wish there were more historic (or not) animes like this.

I just hope that Kaho survived and that kid that took a spear and the girl that went to save him :/

It was worth it but i'ts too sad, not even sad...but more like depressive because you know you can't do anything to prevent what will happen.
Wish there was a 2nd season, would be interesting to see the Mongols coming to Japan but i doubt it will happen.
At least we have the princess that survived.

Wish i could give this more but,
7/10

Ugh, Kano man... I know that shit happens in wars and all that but I just can't deal with it. I truly felt bad after that scene... what a brave woman to take that decision of protecting Teruhi-hime, even knowing what will happen if the Mongols capture her.

Yeah, this was depressing to watch but at least a few people could survive, including some kids who weren't captured. A really bittersweet ending if you ask me. Not that I'm complaining tho.

Despite the feeling of grief these two last episodes gave me, I really liked this series overall. It had its flaws, obviously, like the romance, which I found unnecessary but I never felt bored while watching it. 7/10

Guys, guys, I sadly know about all of that, I was just wondering if there was like spoof on her body or if she was seen between slaves of brief moment, which would confirm here fate, because I didn't notice anything like that.

Edit: Girl tried to save the boy, she probably survived, I guess he's almost certainly dead. Also, I just happen to remember the merchant. Last time he was with pirate on ship, then Ogre pirate come back to fight, merchant was nowhere to be seen. His fate unknown? Probably captured and kill by Mongols, but I am sure his type is hiding in woods.

She was never seen after being pinned down by the Mongols, only the people captured that were after released by the kid.
