Well, the OP song is decent. I kinda like it.

Albus and Mercenary has a funny character chemistry so far. They're not getting along so well lol. At least Albus decides to help Zero with the magic division. Kinda felt bad for Albus though for the way he got treated by the local villagers. It's really too bad witches and magicians aren't really treated so well in their world.

Witch hunts can be scary.

That was a good episode.

Our trio have a pretty good dynamic going here, watching them interact is pretty fun. :)

" I used to be a adventurer mercenary like you, then I took an arrow to the knee"
The SKYRIM MEMES. XDD Though I'm not sure if that was just the translation I watched or if they actually said that.

The village people seemed nice in the beginning but they sure turned on our trio instantly when they saw the ring, they wouldn't even listen to reason. :(
Was nice of Zero to reason out how Sorena had a very low chance of causing the plague.

The final scene with the old woman being a witch and leading our trio out of danger was really nice. Her backstory was kinda bittersweet, Sorena seems like a really nice person, shame she died due to the unreasonable mentality of the mob. I do hope we learn more about her in future episodes.

This episode shows the irony of our world. Though, good people tend to do good things but they are the one who accept all the blame and sarcasms. I really feel sad for Sorena. She did nothing but help people and people didn't listen and do things to her without thinking. :"(

Amazon subber being real cheeky with ''dat arrow to the knee''.

The only thing i didn't really like was how the villagers jumped on the trio too quickly. I thought, that should have been a slower ordeal but only nitpicking.

Otherwise a decent episode. Witches are misunderstood (Sorena was helping the villagers to get rid of a plague, yet they thought she was the perpetrator of all this).

Also makes sense now when i see the little dialogue between Zero and Mercenary.
She's been lonely and is just happy to have someone to talk to, i thought that was sad and heartwarming at the same time. All because witches are misjudged.

I never expected to see a Skyrim meme in an anime. That was funny. It's tough being a witch. It was nice of the granny to help them. She's a witch too. The ring she has was from Sorena. Her past is bittersweet. It's a shame Sorena was burned at the stake because of a misunderstanding. She was just trying to help.

At least the misunderstanding about Sorena is cleared now, even when it's for Albus and Mercenary. Sad story. :'(

An enjoyable episode. Not fantastic, but I really like how everything that happens in the story is relevant and helps us understand it. Nothing is random - if it doesn't add anything to the story, then it's skipped.

That being said, I don't swallow the whole Sorena burned at the stake scene. Nobody would ever behave as if they didn't care about the fact that they were about to die such a horrible death. A powerful witch like that should easily be able to avoid being caught like that or manage to escape with the aid of her spells.

The only way this would make perfect sense to me is if the one who was burned turned out to be a mere copy of Sorena, but I don't think they'll pull off something like that. It seems to be an aspect that was overlooked on purpose in order to create a major pillar for the story. It kind of sucks that they never raised the question "how did she ever get in a situation she couldn't escape even with magic?", so I hope that'll be answered at one point.

Eugh, I don't know if that Arrow in the knee thing was translation original or was also in the novel but I don't like it.

Decent episode. We have some more cute interactions between Zero and Mercenary, some moments for Albus and quite a sad backstory for Sorena.

I quite liked how Zero pointed out that by justifying the murder if the village Albus is only making the situation worse for the witches.

Although I find the show good for providing me things I like to see, there are still things that I consider bothersome as I disagree with.

At 12:20 Mercenary bleeds too much and the knife was more effective that I think it should, as I believe the fur would've been more protective.

At 11:32 the village man declares they'll 'go on a witch-hunt'--and I'm like: 'Why show, do you endorse this man? He's undeserving.'

So yeah I totally disagree with how these events transpired. I expected different from Mercenary. He's too little pride, when the body he has makes him so much more than the people there.

Not to say how they place him practically equal to the villagers in terms of strength. Is it intentional or are they failing in displaying his difference in strength properly? Tigers are said to be as strong as 10 men, c'mon-- make use of that. Don't let it go to waste.

Mercenary hasn't been impressive to say the least. It's like the show's being too politically correct.

As example, I'd have liked to see Mercenary grab the village man with one arm and throw him at a distance. Instead of having him hold his strength (he was, right?) and have him make a weak punch against the village man.

Really liking this show - it is yet too soon to actually call it great or anything, but it does feel different from recent fantasy anime. I like how these chars (especially Mercenary) behave more like actual, reasonable ppl rather than stereotypical anime characters.

Anonymousmon said:

Not all stories need a romance to be good - I agree that it is still a bit slow, but it could get better without needing to resort to something as clichéd as a romance subplot.

Which part of "he did not want to have a fight" you missed? He's been shown now and again that he just wants to be left on his own, and only fights in self-defense (and even then, only just enough to defend himself). You might or might not like it, but it's a perfectly reasonable and realistic behaviour on his part. Heck, given what kind of chars anime love to produce on average, having a char who does not believe that violence is the best solution (even if he does not lack in strength) is a nice change of pace IMO

A Skyrim reference in anime, never thought I'd see the day. Also, idk if it's just me but for some reason the OP feels like it doesn't really fit this show......

Decent episode, but a bit predictable (mainly the old woman turning out to be a witch). It was pretty frustrating to see how the villagers quickly turned on the main trio, but fear affects rational thinking. The exact same thing occurred with Sorena as well, she was completely innocent but again, the fear thing.

joe_g7 said:

Yep, at first I thought it was a joke but after listening again, he said, like others pointed out, "Hiza ni ya o uketa shimatta na" which literally translates to "I received (or took, in this case) an arrow to the knee."

I didn't miss. Like I said, "He's too little pride, when the body he has makes him so much more than the people there."

So if he took more pride on the strength he posses he wouldn't be 'wanting to be left alone' like that. Did you notice that the village man was the opposite? He appears to take pride in his own strength as it makes him more fit to support and protect his people.

What Mercenary dislikes about himself is his appearance. But if he were to get rid of it, he'd lose his superior strength too. And would that be better? With their world in such turmoil.

skyrim is boring game, don't care about that garbage.
Opening theme is quite good, but the episode is generic as fuck, this is like the most basic of basic generic formula of middle age village story theme. the boy (whom im sure will 100% turn out to be girl later on because this is LN garbage, and witch) is really annoying character, same with zero. good thing mr.bear is pretty ok character.

and it's hard to expect good thing from this since the story will definitely left hanging with 12 episode and just pretty ads for the LN. to make it worse, this isn't plotless episodic slice of life that and it's pretty shitty to only get ~10% of the story

Godammit plebs in this anime. Don't even bother to think and just rush to conclusions.

If it was me, my first reaction would be "where did you find the ring? Oh grandma, is this the ring you lost?" not "HOW DARE U WEAR A RING!!! TBH WE DONT EVEN CARE ABOUT THE GRANDMA (BTW DID U KNOW SHES A WEIRDO HAH) BUT NAH ITS A RING AND U WORE IT AND U HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO DIE!!! YE MEN ITS TIME TO PARTY!! WITH TORCHES"
That was a behavior worse than yanderes. 180 degree change in attitude.

Disgusting. Sure, humans and witches may come to understand each other but disgusting things (no they aren't even people in my eyes, sorry. not sorry) will forever remain little in my heart. Even an ant is more noble. In-fact, it's actually pretty damn cool. Time to praise ants.

And ye that thing really did take an arrow to its knee (thats what the japanese said) Well I am glad it took that arrow. Not expecting a lot of good things from it anyway. And I am sorry I thought it was cool guy for a second 'cause it changed my image of it in like 5 secs.
