THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I like how cartoony they summed up the recent story with that timeline montage.

Had fun watching this episode with the sports festival.

Lol, the fan service. It's obvious the girls likes to see a shirtless Suwa, Kakeru, etc. Got some good laughs with all the drama mixed in with the comedy. Glad to see Kakeru's role in the competition.

Damn, Suwa. O.o

Oh and I don't really get what he means by saying this is going in the right direction? The whole festival seemed like a pretty bad experience for Kakeru to me. I'm probably not reading into it enough.

He's prodding Kakeru into admitting he wants Naho no matter what, trying to take away his fickle attitude through jealousy. And doing a good job of it I'd say.

Anyway alright episode. Was a bit slow, couldn't help but notice tons of really poorly drawn faces. Guess the budget evaporated. XD

The Feels Train will never stop :(
Great episode, the girls got to see Suwa and Kakeru without a shirt, Kakeru wants to date Naho, a lot of things happening, and of course let's pray it will rain tomorrow.
The only thing that I didn't like about this episode was the art/animation, it was pretty awful this time and I don't know why.
Anyway, can't wait for the next episode!

This and the last episode have started to ruin the show for me, why the hell did Naho and Kakeru's relationship return to being static after the mutual confession in episode 7?

This episode was boring and inconsequential, this show is stretching its plot too much.

The visuals are also deteriorating, characters appear off-model, along with extremely limited animation.

Someone took a huge shit on the art, it seems. Quality as fuck.

Besides that, a build up episode IMO. Hagita was the best part of the episode.

After all the excitement from the past few episodes, this one was really boring. I noticed the art, too, and thought maybe the video mirror I was watching was screwy. Guess not. Awkward episode that provided no feels. Orange really needs to pick it up to earn anything more than a 7 from me. Before this episode I was considering an 8 or 9 but the ending will be what makes or breaks it. I need to see more future and previous future's past. Hinting at Kakeru moving away? Or was that some sort of suicide clue? Idk.

this. I don't know what happened but it really distracted me from the content. I actually thought it was a dream or some form of twisted reality before I realised it wasn't on purpose (I expected it to get weirder and weirder until someone woke up drunk)... I really like this series but if it stays like that I'll just try the manga instead.

I was going to comment on the poor quality of this episode's art/animation but pretty much everyone above me took care of that. No point repeating something everyone else has already said.

It's pretty easy to tell that Kakeru really wants to date Naho, and I'm sure he was lying when he said he'd be fine not dating her. As cliche as it sounds, the only person holding him back is himself. I think Suwa sees that and is trying to force Kakeru into realizing what he really wants. Let's hope he realizes soon, he seemed to be giving on some more red flags in this episode that point to the possibility of him killing himself. It would be a shame if all that hard work to make him happy was for nothing.

Also, Hagita was the best part of this episode, he never fails to make me laugh.

@Fjordviking I saw it as a suicide clue. I'm sure it was intentionally worded so that it could be interpreted either way, but lets face it, given what we know about Kakeru, I think we all know what he REALLY meant by "I don't know how long I'll be here" and "who knows when I might just disappear."

Good episode, Sad that the quality of the art dipped. Lot of the faces looked kinda bad.

Lol at everyone rejecting to share an umbrella with Kakeru. It's nice how considerate everyone is of getting Kakeru to have fun and push his relationship with Naho.

Sports festival was fun to watch, Hagita six-pack was hilarious. XD
Suwa comes up with the best plans to get Kakeru to confront his feelings.

He told Naho and Suwa, but he never told the others, with everyone around he just makes up that lie to avoid unwanted attention. I would do the same thing, had it happened to me.

Fucking hell the production values have absolutely fallen through the floor. It, along with Suwa's "plan" (it might work, but it could just as easily backfire bigtime), made this episode uncomfortable to watch. Mind you, if it makes something happen in Naho and Kakeru's boring and static relationship, I'm all for it.

I don't know how to feel about this episode - it was great at start, while they hold their hands and meh... it started to be worse and worse - I don't know what to expect from next episodes - I like Suwa, but I don't want him to be with Naho - but it's still going way of that Kakeru's not gonna be saved.

+ animation was terrible. really.

We're definitely at the weakest parts of Orange imo.. Everything from the sports festival up until
was pretty slow and tedious. Once chapter 19 gets animated though, it should be worth the wait. I know reading the manga was the same way. Just a slow trudge through these middle-late chapters.

Everyone has commented on how derp some of the faces were, but let's give some love to the parts that were actually well-drawn. This one in particular: . This scene made the rest of the episode that much better. Probably explains where the bulk of the budget for the episode went as well haha.

The noticeably bad animation this episode really distracted me. I couldn't get in the mood at all and ended up somewhat angry at Kakeru and Naho still not going further... but oh well, it's still understandable enough.
I agree on the overall pacing being kind of tedious though. I expected things to pick up from the moment Suwa and Naho confronted Kakeru about his sadness, but this... it's frustrating.

Although, as someone who was in a relationship with someone who suffered from severe depression, I see a lot of them in Kakeru and I still think the realistic portrayal of this is one of the shows strongest points.
I just hope the next episodes are digging a bit deeper instead of stirring up unnecessary conflict just to resolve everything with some sort of big bang at the end.
There is nothing terribly wrong with feeling lost, so long as that feeling precedes some plan on your part to actually do something about it. Too often a person grows complacent with their disillusionment, wearing their discomfort like a favorite shirt - Johnny C.

The art was so shitty in this episode.

They're just not doing it right, thinking they can save a person from suicidal thoughts and depression by getting him together with a girl he likes. That's great and all, but yeah, it's not enough. Naho is too dense. Poor Kakeru though, they all completely ignroe his mental state although they know that he can committ suicide any given moment and act like clowns instead.

Ok everyone are complaining about art quality. I won't be in opposition, art quality gotten much worse since 1st episode, but tbh it's still not THAT bad. It's watchable (especially if you compare to the anime with heavily used 3DCG). Art in this series doesn't bother me, but in this episode montage was very poor too. They obviously lacking in budget, but as I said, it's still on the level which doesn't bother me that much. If they randomly start using 3DCG,then when will have a big problem...

Huge dip in animation quality this week, found it very distracting, especially the badly off-model characters. I don't normally complain too much about these things, as I understand the realities of anime production are pretty grim, but this was a particularly bad example. I expect it'll get cleaned up for dvd/bluray at least.

On a different note, the friends in this show must be beginning to feel like zookeepers responsible for getting pandas to mate in captivity!

Is the animator in rush or what?

Naho's very cute when she said good morning for a second time at shoe locker.

Ooh I get it what Suwa's doing, I think he tried to change Kakeru's worries about his mother to Naho instead, nice tactic Suwa.

Screw the animation quality, can anyone please tell me, how the hell they can confess that they love each other and then don't do jack shit about it? I mean, in ep. 7 she says that she loves him, then in ep. 8 he says he loves her, then he wants to hold hands with her, and she's just oblivious to the point of asking "the fuck's that hand for?", while already having said that she loves him.
Someone, please do enlighten me, how the heck is it possible to stay in such a position after having your cards played, 'cos there aren't many outcomes, you either stay friends, you start dating or you just cease to do anything with that person and go your separate ways.

The whole Azusa scene was nice.
But Naho had to smash the umbrella away lol

Naho... ... ... WTH. It's okay if we don't go out. What are you doing...

Wth was the animation this episode? Were they even trying? Is this even Orange anymore... Even the direction wasn't good. The voice-acting was still nice tho...

They put all the animation budget in the very first background I think, that was breathtaking. Rest was so bad... This kind of show doesn't work without animation.

I wonder if the staff were in a big rush to get this episode out, since the art and animation quality dropped quite alarmingly compared to last week. There were some close ups where the art looked fantastic, but the majority wasn't good at all.

It's something I would normally expected from some Naruto Shippuden fillers episodes recently, but not here. =/

Aside from that, it was still an enjoyable episode. It was really amusing to see all the girls' reaction to Suwa's six-pack chest, but Hagita's attempt was funny though. XD

I didn't expect Kakeru to swat away Naho's hand like that. She only wanted to treat his wounds, but I guess the frustration and stress is starting to get the better of Kakeru now, probably not being helped by Suwa's earlier talk about Naho.

Hopefully the animators can get the next episodes looking good, but either way, I would expect them to fix this episode up by the time the BD/DVD comes out soon.

So everyone commenting on the suddenly crappy animation. Personally I think since this episode was kinda like a build up episode, they kinda slacked off. Pushing that aside, a fairly good episode, had a bit more laughs than usual and suwa's method is kinda... idk, seems pretty flimsy. All in all a great episode.

Up to this point I liked Orange actually a lot, for the most part. But this episode was just frustrating. Besides the aforementioned massive drop in animation quality, the way both Naho and Kakeru act is infuriating. I refuse to believe that characters can be THIS dense. Such a shame...

I was thinking the same thing. Seriously, she spent so much effort trying to save him, she told him she likes him, but she's happy not going out with him? Give me a break. I can't blame Kakeru for being frustrated, though his self-pity really doesn't help either. This show had so much potential, but the last two episodes have trended downwards. I hope things turn around soon.

Decent episode although it seemed more like a filler to me..we didnt see any development to naho x kakeru relationship although it was really funny seeing a badass jealous kakeru in the end..i felt bad for him throughout the episode for not having family members being there for him..and also I really start to dislike naho's awkward and so oblivious to romance character..she is sooo cute but..i cant stop feel cringy due to her inexperience of having a boyfriend..pff now i must wait another week..keep waiting for the MEGA drama just to fit with the epic outro song for..the feels <3
