Another good episode, I like how Takumi goes to school but retains his passion for baseball.

So we got some actual team training now on the field at school. I love the realism of the show still as Takumi attempts to make an impression. His throw..imo is a bit aggressive. Could of really injured the catcher if he wasn't more careful. Still, he has a lot of potential and likely to bring wonders to the team. Now what he does need to improve on is probably his personality..

Very good episode.

Is it wrong that i'm siding with Takumi now? I can't believe that the coach wanted him to go bald. He doesn't have to obey orders like this IMO.

Noticeable in this episode was also that he doesn't let anyone touch him.

I'm honestly not a fan of Go since the first episode. His personality irks me quite a bit.

I get though that the teamwork might be hurt by the behaviour of him. He's already giving it 100% and i think i noticed the others not wanting to play after him going all out.

Looks like we have some drama in this episode due to Takumi's personality and the way he treats others. I mean, he got called out by his mom, coach, AND Gou, so something needs to change. I understand the frustration of his mom and coach though since, in their minds, he should be respecting his elders no matter how they treat him.

@Smudy There's nothing wrong with siding with Takumi after he refused the coach's order to go bald. I played Little League baseball for 9 years and none of my coaches ever told us to do that, so I'm assuming the coach was just being unreasonable.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

They're all assholes. The coach is nowhere as big an asshole as Takumi, though. Are we seriously supposed to like him in any way? He's a complete dick at all times and it's gone far past the point where he's a challenging deconstructive character. He's so selfish it's almost unbearable.

Well tbh, he is being an asshole to his brother cause he could possibly have a condition and he just doesn't want to say it out loud.

Takumi protective over his arm. Got some attitude from the coach.
Nice to see some baseball practice.
Takumi & Gou make a good duo although the ending got a bit heated.

feels like coach's attitude actually resulted from desperation over takumi's attitude or sth.
the training session feels like actual school baseball. hierarchy and things. characters feels so real too. i wonder if this series is actually about every single character dealing with takumi.

Ok I'm actually very confused. The ending of this episode also had me going wait wha? Harada definitely has his rude cocky moments, but I feel he's also called out for things he's the victim of.

Like he should have better manners for his mom, but she was also obviously just looking for a fight. And she wants her son to be nice and polite yet she screamed so rudely to her own dad? Way to set an example.

And that vice captain sees him in the morning and brings him to the faculty room over a button shirt? Grabs him first thing as well, what's with the man handling? Then the coach calling him cheeky even though he just GRABBED the poor kid's head and is like shave ur head bald. What kinda of bullshit is this? And somehow Gou think's he's the worse person ever because he doesn't wanna take shit from his new asshole coach? The fawk?

my teacher grabbed his student head like that too, and it is normal in eastern education I guess.
Gou snapped not because harada don't wanna go bald, but because he said he is fine not playing in future. It is of course make Gou thinks his hardworking gone waste over that little thing.

Yeah, don't let school anime trick ya, many Japanese (Asian) schools are strict about dress codes, which includes hairstyles. Baseball players are pretty much expected to have short hair and listen to their coach, though grabbing his hair like that is still pretty rude. He's a rude teacher. But iron-fist teachers ain't rare. (Listen to me OR ELSE.)

And people (parents?) are hypocritical like that - "Don't do that!" even though they do it. Way to shout at your father. >>

Otherwise, the coach's style (feel up em players) and rigid hierarchy (no freshmen on the team) system feels a little old-school. I wonder if that's the time period it's set in or just his more traditional mindset because it's a rural town... I'm surprised Gou snapped like that at the end. Takumi was showing a poor attitude there, but still... I can't tell if Takumi is antagonizing others or the other way around. Seriously, these people. =_=

I liked the episode but as much as want to side with Takumi but i can't, yes you can say the teacher was a little to strict but Takumi just can't handle anybody telling him what to do and you can't be like that when you're in a team sport no serius coach will tolerate you with that kinda attitude and saying that he wants to do special training just for him that's like saying my training is batter then you which just makes every one in your team hate you no matter how good you are.

Good episode but there a few things I do take issue with.

First of all why the hell was Takumi randomly arrested and taken to the faculty room just for having his collar button undone. The coach was trying to censure him for a bringing a ball to school, It's fine if he had done something but all the guy did was literally just walk into the campus.

It's true that Takumi has a supercilious attitude but honestly I'm on his side, I can't believe that coach was trying to control him over something as trivial as cutting his hair. As long as the player himself is fine and it doesn't obstruct his abilities in any way it should be fine right?
I do get that Go wants to play with Takumi and the issue with him being sidelined from playing cause of his attitude is definitely there but yeah, Takumi doesn't really have to take all the crap that's being thrown at him, He needs his fair share of freedom. Go's little outburst at the end is not completely warranted imo.

On a side note I really liked the first showcase of the Takumi and Go battery. :D

Takumi is acting like such a high and mighty brat... Oh well since he's about 12 I can understand, it's the best period for being an asshole brat ^^"

Anyway it was almost harassment the way the teacher touched him all over. Even though it may be normal but it still came out of nowhere.
I don't think him asking Takumi to cut his hair is wrong. After all, they often have to have short hair for Baseball. Diamond no Ace didn't which suprised me. What was bad was how he grabbed his hair though but Takumi was still way too insolent about it.

No, he is 100% right. His hair has nothing to do with baseball.. I hate when someone is forcing something totally stupid on me and I can resist it too, blindly doing stupid things is just dumb. Takumi's attitude problem was understandable the entire episode this time. That was a bit of a shocker. Yes he is conceited but in all honesty he does have grounds for it. He appears to be a great player when it comes to technique so it's normal he thinks like that specially if he is in 7th grade.

Yeah the coach was rude and shouldn't have been allowed to pull on Takumi's hair like that, even if he has absolute authority over the team. If you read other sports manga though, it's definitely a thing for people in sports clubs to have short hair, in fact, in my mother's time in Taiwan, schools required girls to have hair above the shoulders (not sure if all schools). Battery seems to be set in the current times, but it's not surprising for the coach to have told Takumi to get a haircut. It's still unreasonable just like Takumi said though, his hair has nothing to do with his ability to play baseball.

I don't think Takumi is really an asshole like some are calling him, he's just not a people-pleaser; he does what he wants and his manners are the bare minimum. However it's not like he's breaking any rules or being violent, he's honestly really good compared to my 10 year old brother who talks back at every comment and thinks he's so smart. If Takumi wants to play baseball, then let him. It's healthy for him to get physical exercise. Even if he has some illness, I think it's sadder not letting him do what he wants to.

I think standing up for your own values is quite important, even if other people will just see it as stubbornness. He's willing to not be able to play baseball because he doesn't want to be unreasonably pushed around by such a coach. What's wrong with that? Gou is right that Takumi does seem to look down on people, but I don't really think that's what Takumi is doing, he's just a lot more confident and knows exactly what he wants, unlike most people. The more I watch, the more interesting this series gets, as we get to see more about Takumi. I haven't been so intrigued by a character in such a long time.

Lots of drama in this show. I can't say that I don't enjoy it, but there needs to be some balance.

Every one is so tense in this show. I do like the coach though, he seems to be adding a little spice and it was a nice break from the Seiha drama.

Gou needs to chill. Takumi isn't looking down on people he just needs reasoning with.
He'll probably cut his hair anyways.

I m more and more intrigued by Takumi with every new episode. Really, his personality is so different than most sports anime MCs. I like how he is aware of his talent, but willing to pay time and effort to achieve even greater ability.
In Asia there were some cases where teacher bully or physically abuse pupils... it seems to take a lot of courage to go against teachers. Even here in Europe, when I defended another pupil I got scolded harshly b y my sports teacher and had to do pushups in front of everyone else as punishment. That left a bitter aftertaste, so I really don't like the coach in this anime yet.
When Takumi said he won't care if he can't play the whole 3 years during middle school, that just shows how dedicated he is to his own beliefs and principles. I really respect it.
On the other side, I think I've started to warm up to Gou. Unlike Takumi, Gou would probably have given up on baseball if Takumi didn't come to his town. He would probably go to tutoring school as told by his mother, and play baseball when he got spare time. But since Takumi came here, he started to dream of Koushien. That must be why he was so angry when Takumi said that he wouldn't mind not playing for whole 3 years.
Sighs I really like the pace and everything. I'm just bitter that it's only 11 episodes.
Right now it's a solid 5/5.

Sorry but the drama in this anime is so cringe and forced.
Takumi is the biggest asshole Ive seen as a MC in an anime granted you could excuse him because puberty but his mom is right, would being a little polite at least to his family hurt?
The coach is unreasonable as f and for once I agree with Takumi, why should he cut his hair, it wont do any good in baseball except giving the coach an authority boner.
And Gou is also stupid he should side with Takumi instead of getting angry because Takumi has at least a backbone.
I really dont know if I can watching this, maybe give next ep a shot and then see.

me @ everyone in this show so far:

As prickly and selfish as Takumi is, I still side with him in this episode. First of all, like @Lelouch0202 said, Takumi shouldn't have been taken straight to the faculty office just for having his collar undone. Not that I know what it's like irl, but I'm pretty sure a simple "fix your collar" would have sufficed.

And like everyone else has said, the adults in this show are ridiculously difficult. The coach was being unreasonable for no reason. As long as Takumi's hair doesn't get in the way of his gameplay, I don't see what the big deal is. Takumi's mother picks a fight with him literally every time he talks. He definitely could be more polite, but just yelling at him isn't going to change his behavior. And Go's mom from last week was also ridiculous, asking Takumi to tell Go to quit baseball.

And the drama didn't even stop there! Like I already said, that vice captain who took Takumi to the faculty office should have just told him to fix his collar. And while I do side with Takumi right now, he acts like someone's going to tase him whenever they touch his arm. And Go blew his anger way out of proportion. I agree with Takumi, that he shouldn't have to kiss up to the coach just to play. Go shouldn't extrapolate his own personal feelings on someone else.

And like a lot of people have already said, not only is the drama excessive, these characters are supposed to be freshmen in MIDDLE SCHOOL, making them 12 or 13. This dialogue would be cringey enough for high schoolers, but it's just unbelievable for middle schoolers.

As much as I love sports anime, I'm not liking the focus on how bitchy everyone is, and the lack of focus on actual sports. Considering how mad every episode has made me so far, I may be better of dropping the anime.

I don't think you understand what I mean. Yes the trigger that made Gou snap was Harada saying he would be fine not playing in the future, but Harada said that because he'd rather not play if it meant sucking up to this asshole coach who is essentially giving him a dumb ultimatum of cutting his hair or else possibly being banned from playing. The fact of the matter is Harada shouldn't have to cut his hair, it's unjust and irrelevant (like he even said) but Gou is ignoring that and is basically saying "Well you gotta do what you gotta do, suck it up." All of course because he just wants to form a battery with Harada. Who's really being the selfish one here? Disregard your new friend's feelings all because of what HE want? Someone needs to look up what the worst kind of person really is (and by someone I mean Gou).

Right? Completely called for. The part that bothers me the most is he did show a humble hard-working side. When he was given suggestions on how he shouldn't pitch so hard at his age he didn't act up and think he knew better than everyone. He listened. Yet somehow I feel that because he acted so calm the coach took that as him being cheeky/over-confident and decided to bully him.
