THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
AOTS for sure. I will say it again, this is one of the best VN adaptations all time.

I didn' expect something THAT good from David Production.
I could listen Hoshino's voice all time.
And when I heard "Gentle Jena", feeeeels...

5/5 of course.

Wow this is getting interesting.

The robot girl explains a lot about the stars, constellations, mankind history regarding inventions, and the fact that the planetarium is also a time machine. I also really how like how the storytelling feels so trusting told from Hoshino's point of view. The background imagery and music used also works quite well imo.

Good episode, this is getting more and more interesting every episode.

Yep, Gentle Jena still remains my favorite track from any VN ever. Nothing beats the original, but the 2016 rendition is still excellent.
It's a timeless piece.

"Mankind will solve all its problems"
"Just as always, a new day will begin"

And therein lies the tragedy of Planetarian.
The world of Planetarian could happen to us. A final, nuclear world war is still a lingering fear and possible future.

A clueless robot simply doing its duty, showcasing the greatness of mankind as if nothing has changed; completely oblivious to the fact that mankind had already crumbled.

This was the episode I was waiting with baited breath for, and it didn't disappoint. For reference, the projection scene in the VN has next to no visual accompaniment, so I'm really glad to see how much love David Production has poured into adapting it - even using a new rendition of Gentle Jena as the background music.

My hopes for the final episode are very high now, fingers crossed that they nail it.

That was quite a fascinating presentation to say the least.

Though, more or less, I'm curious as to where the story will go from here on out.

(On a side note, I wonder how much of this series' staff worked on Jojo before. Both are by the same animation studio after all)

Really well done! I'm so surprised how they were able to pull this off. All 3 episodes have built a really solid tone and the character moments are great. Can't wait till next week!

Well, that was certainly great. The whole presentation scene was well presented and highly compelling, and there is some definite tragic irony in that second half about the majesty of humanity and our achievements. And I can't help but feel that something is going to happen to Yumemi when she starts to escort the Junker to "his car" (he doesn't even have one, so why's he lying to her about it?).

I think the people who stuck with Planetarian up till now can appreciate the simplicity of things. An abandoned robot who's trapped in the past, and a junker who's trapped in the present. It's really nothing too complex, just a bit of introspection.

And based David is doing well. It's just that not a lot happens in an individual episode, and it's a VN adaptation, not a manga.

Same director who works on Jojo and the scriptwriter worked on some episodes of the first season and stardust crusaders seasons

Well, it's not technically his car, although it was a little weird that the anime left out the context as to why there is a car waiting for him.

That story and projection was amazing yet it felt so sad when you see how that world has turned out.

Something like that could very well happen to us too.

I would be lying if I hated the episode because in all honesty this episode was better than the irst and second (note Im just caught up to it right now due to my amount of skepticalism towards it due to my issues with Episode 1).

Not gonna lie the presentation on how they demonstrated how the world is was rather nice, though it didn't drove me to tears in all honesty (I cant really cry in all honesty for most animes nowadays tbh) of course, the fact that the series didn't reminded me how Broken Yumemi is relieves me a bit, I am rather liking her character at least a bit. The narrative was so much better and I am somehow liking how the characters were getting along despite how the first episode ticked me off from the story, still I think the series nails at the Visuals to some extent (I've seen some derps but quite a few) and the Soundtrack which isn't bad in all honesty, in fact the soundtrack is pretty good.

It seems more like Junker has more to his character as he is somehow developing and remembering what the world was before, and the projection scene was pretty nice to showcase that, and him imagining how it looks like before and then reflecting how it looks now in the present. (Of course assuming he was a kid in the past it was rather obvious why Im saying this). Now, the final scene of the episode rather puts me to question since right now Yumemi is going to go with Junker due to how she was apparent set up to do? Which was rather... stupid? (from the managers' end) and now Junker has to deal with her if she DOES go around with him (and knowing how there are robots here as well it seems more like there's bigger troubles).

Though in short, a better episode than the previous, it grew a bit on me, but not enough yet. I do am starting to like it but hoping they can do more with it in the last two episodes.

3.5/5 for this episode.

It's within Yumemi's power to escort frail or vulnerable customers up to a 3km radius from the planetarium. Normally she would have to request permission, but as that isn't possible she is permitted to make her own judgement call on such matters. They going into a bit more detail with that in the VN, but everything was mentioned during the last couple of mins.

While the whole projection scene is nice enough, in the end it failed to give as much of a touching experience as the one in the VN.
It's because they keep the third-person view, constantly jumping back to Mr. Junker to show his expression. (which is the right call in a third-person view, but in the end hurts hard on the potential enjoyment aspect of watchers.)
Well, can't be helped. First-person would be expensive. I'm already glad enough this beautiful story got an adaptation.

Btw: hell, why do they have to add that scene where Junker goes to the electric breaker room? -_-

The whole breaker circuit scene is pointless, too. Because people would have already guessed that.
One of the strong point of KEY stories is on how they manage to rub the obvious incoming sadness in their readers' face, hyperbole it again and again and make that obvious thing into something special.
It's like: "we know it will happen, but please don't make it happen! They deserve happiness!" and KEY doesn't give a f*ck and do it anyway.
Same way here: we already knew it will happen. No need to draw extra scene with background & extra everything that will cost extra money.
(Just recycle the frames from last episode's projector repair scene. It'll be cheaper, seriously.)

Well, no matter. Yumemi was all I ever needed. And still is. <3

ps.: Gentle Jena :'(

Edit: I forgot something.

I kind of liked the projection scene more in the VN. Not sure why. Maybe because they had Gentle Jena playing all the way through, I don't know. Either way, the visuals were nice to look at.

I don't think there's a single anime out there that made the tear up in merely 3 episodes, let alone the fact that they weren't even regular-length episodes to begin with.

This looked stunning as I expected. Such a beautiful episode. If I were to compare it with the VN, I'd have to say the VN was certainly more touching... but this was still awesome anyway.

I'm almost sure they skipped part of the projection... didn't she talk about Mars as well in the VN? I don't quite understand why they'd skipped that. Either way, this was definitely worth the wait.

Oh man, that was just powerful. I really didn't think they'd execute the projection so well. I actually think the shots of Junker's expressions were what brought it home. The beautiful, hopeful presentation reflected by the tragic and depressing truth that he knows moved him in a very real way, and we were able to experience that from his raw facial expressions rather than his point of view. The VN was certainly another level of touching, but the way this was presented was absolutely spot on for anime format. Well done to DavidPro, I am so looking forward to episode five now I'm getting chills just thinking about it.
