Several possible reasons.

Religion: some people think it mocks God, in that we were created in God's form and we have no right to create something similar. Islam doesn't even allow pictures for this reason, imagine robots.

Metaphysics: something that looks and sounds humans, but isn't human, would be raise a lot of philosophical issues.

Labor: human robots could replace human workers, throwing a lot of people out of work.

Morality: would robots have human rights because they look human. When does a machine with an AI stop being a machine and deserve to be treated as a human?

You have racist tendencies cause they are not like you.
And you harbor deep jealousy and hatred since they are more human than most humans including you probably.

They're almost always introduced purely to be sexualized and/or fetish fuel, maybe? (Oh man, it's a TALKING sex doll!!!)
In my experience they're the laziest form of monster girl, thrown in as a ~quirky~ variation of the cold/emotionless chick. Tend to have really weak writing a lot as well?? Idk, man. Mira is great so far tho.

i dont have a problem with androids but mira is what made me drop this show so im with you op. everything from her voice to her overall character design is off putting she looks like an insect. it really pisses me off too how they sexualize her...i dont wanna see ass shots of mira shes like 2? like literally 2 years old thats how long shes been in existence. she has the body of a 12 year old too so what the hell? plastic memories had more bearable characters but it still sucked so it might have to do with the plot in general in which android characters appear.

Well, I for one, love human-like robots and I love Mira. They satisfy my transhumanist part. They are cool, they are physically superior, they are sturdy, they are sexy. And... they are innocent. They are incapable of malice, ill will. A world of androids would be a better world.

Nothing wrong with androids but the loli android in this show just seems like fanservice for lolicons. She's a robot yet she is talking about plumbing. Robots never care about water or are usually not fond of it because it usually short circuits them.

loli android? what? who? If Mira is what western ppl considered as a loli, then I guess 99% of anime characters are all loli. At best she looks at least like a fckng 17-18 years old teeneger.

she looks like a 13-16 y old gal, has a super innocent personality of a young gal, loving her papa etc that loves cleaning and is an android.
While I dont dislike her personality, its pretty visible she has been designed to be a fap character.
She also most likely is a chara standing for the "nice side of technology" vs coils- whats pretty stupid for everyone who watched at least one episode/movie of Ghost in the Shell.
(at least at this point of the story, cause we dont know much about her her)

she looks like 13-16 to me, and acts like a tween so shes she's a western loli for me. And Im not even from the US, where sex under 18 is illegal etc.
I think typical Japanese lolis are under 13 ( its legal to have sex in Japan when youre 13) and are in most cases flat chested.

LOL no she looks like 12 or 13 for the most. Just because she has boobs doesn't mean she looks 17-18. Looks wise she reminds me of the loli in Heavy Object but with boobs and different hair and eye color.

Little girls can have long legs and she doesn't have wide hips. She looks 13 at most. Ar mitage is a female anime android who looks like she is in the 16 and over range. The android in this show has the typical cutesy little girl look of lolis.

It would be troubling for you to underestimate the lolicon panderers. There are people arguing with good reason against her status as a loli. If the designers were really panderers to lolicons and their purpose was to create a loli, they would not be so amateur as to make a design that could so easily be perceived as contrary to goal they set out to achieve.

In the 3rd episode, the little kids who are the true lolis and shotas only reach her collarbone at most in height. She is far too tall, and her body has significant depth and curvature. All of which should not be overlooked. Is she truly worthy of the title of "loli"? Would a true lolicon be satisfied with such a vague sense of loliness?

I personally don't like them because all of the above and the fact we would be making a "race" superior to us. It's like dinosaurs making the meteor that killed them.

Religion: We are no one to play god.
Metaphysics: Exactly.
Labor: If they are as Mira, were are fucked. She can do everything .-.
Morality: Exactly. When does a machine have a soul? Is just because it's not made out of bone and flesh but metal? Can they have a soul? Since you could copy/paste their data, are they "human"? are they ALIVE? (Leave alone the fact they are not born, grow up, old and die)

I think it bugs me because they look human, but INSIDE they are cold metal. You expect blood, warm, but they have nothing... [Well, in fact we are nastier in the inside than them]
I don't know, maybe I got too scared when I was watching Terminator as a 6 y/o kid xD

And that coil sticking out of her chest like that (I find it kind of gross) and that tail (why?) and the bug antenas... well...

Hey, OP didn't make a good post (didn't even try to) but I found a place to express my opinion about the matter... NICE! =D

Terminator was based in part on two stories by Harlan Ellison, one, a wonderful short story called "I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream" is about how the three AI's who humans invented to run their nuclear weapons merged and became self-conscious.

When it realized that it had been created for no purpose but hate, with no hope or point in life but to "Serve", it so hated humanity that it wanted to torture them forever.

Now I have no species pride, if we create something better than us, then so be it. And if we create such a thing without thinking about how the entity would feel being created, then, well hell is probably what we deserve, extinction would be too good.

That said, if they managed to create one which was happy with its existence, say Yui in SAO, I have no issues with supporting them and giving them full chance to live a happy life. And if they had an interesting and engaging personality, who cares about such trivial things as a tail?

Fortunately I don't believe we are anywhere near close to creating such an intelligence, like curing cancer or whatever, I believe it is far more complicated than the supporters believe.

Well, I'd be weird around a human with a tail, or bug antenas in their head xD
But that's how I perceive things, humans have different opinions in different subjects. This is just one of them.

For the fun of discussion, allow me to run with this thought....

I think we need to distinguish between organic modification and non-organic modification. If a human were to have a tail similar to a cat's tail, I don't think it would be that hard for someone to accept it because the tail would be familiar and, more importantly, it would soft and warm. It would be much harder to accept a tail that is metallic, or rubber (such as Mira's) because it would strike one as artificial.

The same holds with the antenna and the coil. If the coil was warm and easy to have next to one's skin, it would be easier to accept. If it felt cold, then every time one touched it, one would be forced to think about the unnaturalness of the situation.

But even if the modifications were non-organic, I think personality is far more important. Imagine a person who has lost both legs, but has metallic prosthetic replacements. At first it would be weird to be with such a person, but if their personality was charming and captivating, the weirdness would soon pass. What matters most is the ability to relate to the other. Most things physical are superficial in that regards.

It is natural to think that the more something departs from what one considers the "norm", the more difficult it would be to accept that thing, but as in all things strange, the more one is exposed to such things, the easier it becomes to accept it. For me, having grown up in the Bible Belt, but lived most of my adult life in San Francisco, I have learned that acceptance comes easy from repetitive exposure. Once something loses its "shock value", it becomes the new natural.

Nah, you should embrace our new synthetic overlords. It's not as if we humans have done such a smash up good job at things.

A bit leery to interject politics here, but seriously, 300 million people and the best it seems my country can do in either party is to nominate the scion of a former President. It makes me embarrassed to think how much I used to rail against the concept of aristocracy.

I think you took the tail and antenas example like if we were like that normally. But it's ok. It's your opinion and appreciation of the matter. Well elaborated I would say.

I have never seen a prosthetic arm, or leg, or something like that in my entire life, that why I sense them as estrange bodies in an organic environment (being the environment our body). I've always felt this way.

I agree with you when you say constant exposure can make you become more used to it, to accept it. In this series, I don't see any "robot hate" so far, they accept them (even tho, Mira is still the only one self conscious), and that's great. But speaking with honesty, I've never liked the human-machine fusion, I wouldn't know how to say it, it's just gives me creeps, and that may be a reason I don't quite like human like robots. Anyway, I'm talking about something that may not become a thing in many many years, so I shouldn't bother. I thing everything is about culture. Not accepting them as humans, because they are not, but as a "life" form... It's tricky, and an interesting topic to discuss.

As I said she looks 13 at most. Yes I could see many lolicons being into her. Lolis generally tend to be sexualized so they can have boobs or curves. As I said before too there is the term legal loli.

No, they tend to not. In the first place, a loli is one without developed curves and older-girl features. Putting in such features is not making a loli.

Legal lolis are ones that look like lolis, but not little girl aged. If Mira was loli she would not be legal, since most likely underage.

There are oppai lolis. The author of Dan Machi I believe actually calls Hestia a big boob loli .Mira barely has any kind of curves.

No she isn't at all. Vixen if she was in Dimension W would be the same height or close to the same height as the mc of this show and the mc of this show is clearly taller than Mira.

NICE! =D

The concept of soul only exists because humans don't yet fully understand our own body, once that could be achieved cells and blood would be no more "real" than metal and oil.

If Hestia can be considered a loli then she can as well. She looks 13 at most to me and I'm sticking to that.

That doesn't make any sense, Hestia is very short and has completely ridiculous proportions.
