just out of curiosity, I had asked this question in the club comments and I loved the responses that were posted. So, I decided that it would be worth wile to make a discussion about it. as in the name of the topic the question is "how did you get your username? why did you pick/ why do you use it?"

thank you; Kaigen

I was reading a Latin dictionary and stumbled across the word "Nex" which means "to kill (as in murder)." Being (at that time) a full blown misanthrope, I added an -ist (meaning one who does). The word "Nexist" is also a logical/mathematical term for "Not Exist." I really like things that have multiple meanings. The 418 got tacked on because I needed a number for some site. 418 is the number of the great work (cosmological evolution of the soul). It is sort of backwards as I seem to have it for all of my "play" sites (other than LastFM & LibraryThing. This is the short version.

I am also known as dar205 (LJ), 'Thee Everluvin' Nexist OV Xaos Breach" & "Nexist Xenda'ths"

"tehnominator" is portmanteau of "The Denominator" which was my handle on sites like Fanfiction.Net back when I used to write.

I got "The Denominator" for a culmination of reasons:

- Irony. I despise Math, and it stuck with me and haunted me all my life.

- History. I wrote "The Dominator" under a picture of Toussaint L'Ouverture, and I thought that "denominator" and "dominator" were pretty close despite one word having meanings of a lowly state and the other one implying power.

- Sexual innuendo. The denominator is the number on the bottom.

My name has nothing to do with "techno". I listen to it, but that's all.

I've always tended towards the morbid and dark areas of life, and I love the imagery of a weeping angel covered in blood and gore. So, several years ago, I took the Finnish words for blood (Veri) and angel (enkeli), and mashed them together for this username for another site. Now I use it every once in a while, and MAL just happened to be one such place.

as you can tell the name is kaigen, I wanted to come up with a name for a character that I was designing, and was having issues. while randomly watching DBZ, making fun of king kai die I thought "you know he does have a cool name though" I tried a plethora of suffixes then gen came out of my mouth and it was good.
Shortly after however, I found out that it is actually a REAL name O_o it's rare even at it home nation (I think japan) so my name is taken on many big Japanese orientated web sites, so in that case I use kaigen-kenpo. kenpo in the marshal art used by Aushi in Kenshin. I have used Darker_kaigan one time,also for MAL, I managed to miss spell kaigen when making the account >.>;

Viko is a word that was made up by me and a friend. We gave it the meaning of king/lord/ruler or something like that.
Paulum means a bit in latin (yeah, i follow latin classes :P) and my real name is Paul. Some friends called me viko paulum as a humiliation, but i thought it was kinda cool.
So my user means something like a bit king or King Paul. (It didn't sound as lame in my head, come to think of it xD)

Huh, my username isn't very clever or creative, and it isn't too hard to figure out.

Arisugawa Juri has become my favorite anime character and so I used her first name, the number (also very uncreative) was simply my age at the time.

oooh, mine is easy.

my nickname is creeper, for reasons im sure you guys can determine, but that was taken on the site.

so i used grim creeper, which i find humorous 'cause it plays on 'grim reaper' and also because its the name of revolta's sidekick in the movie scooby-doo and the ghoul school. and scooby-doo plays a huge part in my childhood, ive probably seen every episode and it is my favorite cartoon.

so, theere we have it :D

My name is from a song that was created by the german Band JBO. The name Ulkor was mentioned in their song "Verteidiger des wahren Blödsinns" (in English it would be "Defenders of the true nonsence") and in one line they sung: "Oh Freudengötter, Gaudin, Ulkor ..." (in Englisch: "Oh gods of joy, Gaudin, Ulkor...)

or in short, Ulkor is a god of joy invented by JBO

Mine came about because I've been obsessed with Doctor Who all my life, and I usually picked names that had "Time" in them in some way. Also there's an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 where they watched a movie called "Time Chasers" but I wasn't thinking about that at the time, although it is ironic as I am also a big MST fan.

I took it from My Chemical Romance's music video for "I'm not okay". First it was "My Selfish Romance", then I added the xs in the middle to make it look a lot more emo and straight edge (so random, I know) aaaaaand... finally, I shortened it out of boredom and that's all :3. Besides that, I choose "selfish romance" because I'm just in love with myself XD.

Acid Black Cherry is a japanese band (solo project) that i like. also the lyrics in the song jigsaw by them are dark and pretty much pointing out the major flaws and irony of humans. (which i enjoy)

also the primary reason why i chose this username is a somewhat long and distant interpretation of Acid Black Cherry.(im not even sure if i will be capable of explaining correctly so sorry if it makes no sense in the end.)

Acid- referring to toxic then to dangerous
Black- referring to darkness and to being blind and then to ignorant
Cherry- well haha sexual reference to cherry being the slang term for virgin

so in the end it refers to the younger in a love relationship with a large age difference. one is still young (virgin) who doesn't understand what it means to love and to be in a committed meaningful relationship (ignorance).

in the end the older partner in the couple takes the fall and feels the heart break and generally the older would have anticipated a bad outcome but wanted to try anyway because the younger will (being entirely infatuated) seem convincing.(dangerous foreshadowing)

the younger will eventually have his/her share in the relationship but once he/she does, he/she will realize that what he/she thought to be "love" wasnt at all and will run off to find someone they find to be more suitable/ideal. but the older will have grown feelings for the younger thus being heart broken when it ends.(dangerous)

when everyone's love-life starts out they begin as an acid black cherry.

Actually, my internet nickname is "Aquarius", inspired by "Within Temptation's" eponymous song and originally the name of a character I created a long time ago. Unfortunately, the story never got written, but the name stuck and eventually became my internet nickname up until now.

Since "Aquarius" is already used by another member here and since I hate adding random numbers to it, I translated it into Japanese, so that "Mizugameza" was born. ;)

Japsa is my dad's nickname with his friends. One thing I wanted for quite a while was XboxLive (this was about 5-6 years ago). He bought it for me as a surprise but didn't understand how it works. He made the XboxLive account and named it japsa (all lowercase). Back in that day you couldn't change it, so I was stuck with it. Since then it has caught on, I now use it as my username for everything.

As a note, here are some things that my name has nothing at all to do with

Japan
Japs-eye
Jasper
Jaspers

And in my years on XboxLive, very few people have been able to pronounce my name correctly. I always get called "Jaspa" or "Japasa" or sometimes, "Japa"

Mine came from Toaru Kagaku no Railgun episode 15 or 16, from when Konori made an ingraving on the railing of her name and Kurozuma's (Kurozuma Wataru and Konori Mii). It had an arrow pointing up with the word Kuro written on one side and Mii written on the other; I thought it was lovely, put the two together and then came out with the name Kuromii.

I've always wanted to have a dog, but my parents hate dogs. So someday (I was probably ~5 years old and in kindergarten back then), I started to enjoy the company of an imaginary dog, a little mongrel. Without a special reason, I gave him the name "Celondor". Since then I'm using the name when my other favorites are already taken by someone else. And yes, this Celondor-dog still exists in my head. He's pretty grown up yet. :P

My username comes from playing games online.

I used to (still do occasionally) play Wolfenstein Enemy Territory. It had a weapon which was a poison syringe, and that put people 'to sleep'. I got a lot of satisfaction out of getting kills with it, and turned it into my username (as I had gotten bored of my old handle).

Eventually, I came across a guy who was much better than me, and he teased me calling me 'Sleepyhead' whenever he killed me. I decided that 'The Sleep' is a pretty cheesy name anyway, and went with Sleepyhead.

The 90 part refers to my year of Birth... It's only there because Sleepyhead isn't a terribly original moniker.

Kira happens to be my infamous pen name that I use all over the internet (dA, FF.net, etc...) Making a profile for my main RP character, I use the full name Kira Reiketsu, somehow the Kanji rooting down to the meaning "cold-blooded animal". HiME was a prefix I wanted to use because I'm completely and pathetically obsessed with My HiME, and it has nothing to do with the fact that I want to be a pretty little princess one day.

I have always had nicknames and this is my latest.
Haruka is my fav Anime/Manga Character [as Tenou Haruka/Sailor Uranus from Sailor Moon universe] I have my J-teacher call me Haruka as well.
also my Sir Name is a mix of Haruka's element which is the wind and bit of fan overreaction.

I write it as 魔風 and use the Kanji sequence of "ma" 魔 which means: demon; devil; evil spirit; evil influence and "Kaze" 風 which means wind and the word Makaze means Evil Wind and because that comes out a bit too much of an otaku name I have stopped using the first Kanji and write "ma" with hiragana
The only real Japanese name spelled as Makaze is by this Sequence 真風
As a word though is pronounced as "maji" まじ and it means: southerly breeze; true wind

Haruka is also written in Hiragana

Yaaga is the online identity I've created for myself by complete chance. I was actually playing some game on my PS2 one day, performing like crap and I needed some sort of war-cry to get myself pumped up to try more - queue "YAAGA YAAGA YAAGA!" (Yeah, I have issues.)

This was the primary use of Yaaga for many months, until it dawned on me when I was registering on a forum that Yaaga sort of kind of sounds like a name, almost. Ever since then I've used Yaaga as an online identity, and the odds are good if you see a Yaaga somewhere it's me. At the least, I've never registered somewhere Yaaga was taken, so it's not that common.

Fun facts about Yaaga - It has practical real world uses, as found out when I tried to google myself one day. It's the name of some Tech Support company or something, as well as part of some Indian ritual.
It's very easy to mess up apparently. I can't count the number of people that referred to me as yagga at first...

My name isn't that hard to figure out, I like death and things related like blood and gore, that's were Death comes in, 666 is the number of the devil so why not use it. I would have just Death666 if i could but that's always taken so i put in the pk which is player killer in runescape (ya i played it), i would take it out or replace it but since Ive had DeathPk666 for a few years now, its just stuck and if i cant get DeathPk666, ill usually just change it to D34thPk666 or put a space in between the pk and 666 or something.

Despite my 'dark' name, im usually a pretty chill/nice guy :)
