Awesome, a boxing match this time and the penultimate episode too.

Definitely intense is one word I would describe it as. That's some awesome running though LOL. Is he trying to catch up to a train?! But yeah, practice makes perfect. The training may be intense but I think Nekota is getting the most out of it. Poor him though...getting beat up like that, damn. I can't even imagine that pain.

Nishimura's directing is showing a big difference with how things are executed. I hope they bring him back for future installments.

Miyano's performance as Kamogawa really made me think of Light.

Anderson went as far to rabbit punch a punch drunk man. What a low jerk and he is fighting people smaller than him and he used to be ranked 5th in the world. I wonder if this was the incident where it inspired Miguel was able to control Hawk to not foul in fights. But as you now see, Anderson's body is his weakness. His body is actually weak in the games as well.

But Nekota is a mix of Sendo's wildness with Itagaki's agility and Miyata's speed. MIguel at least cares about the art and rules of boxing and has respect for the yamato damashii, or Japanese spirit. But I wonder how Kamogawa managed to land hits on Nekota and even got 2 wins against him.

Kamogawa has finally developed his tekken which is cool. But if you played the games, you know it can only be used 5 times. But Kamogawa is tough for taking all that damage from Anderson and was downed so many times.

I look forward to the next episode. You will see how awesome young Kamogawa is besides his toughness.

F**k Anderson. What a bastard! Rabbit punching because he was too scared -.-

Nekota was so friggin BA owning him like that. My respect for him Skyrocketed. His fighting style is really cool.

Kamogawa's training regime was friggin brutal! No point if he can't connect though >.<
Getting owned like that :(

And damn!! Did they really have to do that cliffhanger?! Shit! Last ep will be epic :D

Loving this arc. I want to see Miyata-kun become like Nekota. And I just realized Miyano is doing Kamogawa's voice. He's just too good.

I felt like they rushed it. There were many more thoughts that should have been presented in this episode, but I guess that with only one episode till it's ending, they cant really afford to put too many things aside from actual fight.

Nekota fights just like Mayweather, that was some crazy speed right there. He got messed up bad towards the end though, I thought his eye fell out. I never would've guessed that goofy old man was this badass.

That smack to the back of the head. My god, if that was illegal, shouldn't the referee dq him or make him lose points? Or was something up that I was not sure of? c:

Man that was an awesome episode. I can't believe how badass Nekota was. It's a shame that he went down like that though. Imagine if he never had the brain damage and had Miyata or Itagaki under his wing.

He was down on the last scene last episode, but then he rabbit punched Nekota and now Kamogawa's about to do a repeat of their alleyway beatdown. >_< I know he just got up from a coma but Nekota better come up with a strategy or it will be for nothing.
You see there's no need to wonder where your god is,

They're engaged in a sort of boxing/brawling hybrid. rules were more like suggestions back then, and the ref's power over a fight was limited. That's the only reason you'd see a fight as unfairly balanced as a welterweight vs a bantamweight in the first place.

Does anyone know if the second for the American is the same second that was there for Brian Hawk?

They are obviously trying to keep it clear that it is just that Anderson asshole who is a jerk. It gets pretty clear when that soldier talks to Nekota and Kamogawa, after they got beat on the road trying to protect Yuki, and when he talks about respecting japanese pride and stuff.

According to old post-war Japan, that is.
Even now there still are a little of prejudices, but much lesser than before, that's for sure.

Goddamn racist Americans

I think this is the first time this show brought tears to my eyes. Just seeing Nekota in the coma and Kamogawa knowing he fought Nekota last which started the problems... ;____; The direction really is amazing. It's interesting how different it is compared to the episodes before this arc.

Once again, as an active reader of the manga (I do have a subscription to Shounen Magazine just for Hajime no Ippo but looking forward to GTO Paradise Lost), I feel that 25 episodes makes me feel cheated since the anime is still behind by like 60 volumes or so. If anything, this season should have at least covered of what I personally call the 1995 part of the manga since most of the episodes this season takes place in 1995 (Takamura vs Eagle takes place in September 1995 while Ippo vs Shimabukuro starts at March).

I hope they get Nishimura to direct more. There are a lot of fights later on that would be great for his direction.

Also, you can unlock Ralph Anderson III in the career mode of Hajime no Ippo 2 Victorious Road for PS2 sometime in the 90s and he is also a welterweight. He pretty much looks like Ralph of course. And if you play far in the future like to the year 2050 or so, Kamogawa will still be alive lol.

Hi, welcome to your first Japanese animated series. In case you were wondering, guts, pride, fighting spirit, Japanese being weak of body but strong of heart, DATTEBAYO and main characters getting beaten almost to death until finally overcoming their stronger opponent with a last, final kamehama, are all very common themes in almost every single Japanese media. America and Japan have had a strange relationship ever since WW2, and as you said, anime can rely strongly on allegories to the previously mentioned "guts" being able to overcome the romanticized "American" strength.

Hope to see you around the boards!

What..? What does any of that garbage have to do with an arc set in 1 or 2 years after WWII? I know it's not a new fact or anything that the Japanese either ignore or act like they were the victims in the war they started.. but cmon even someone as dim as yourself can see it's pretty obnoxious, especially with all the awful things they did.

First news I've heard about US/JP relationship being so "weird" that even a single American, just after WWII would think the Japanese are brave and courageous.

Hope to see more of your intelligent thought provoking posts!

I find it funny how Americans get offended when Hollywood is about to release the 9998 movie with that evil Russian guy, Serbian guy etc and it's up to the American hero to save the world.

Rocky 4. Evil huge powerful blond Russian dude with illegal doping. The small American hero training in the wild and winning by sheer will. Oh! the similarities.

So Nekota was a victim of being punch drunk? Remember Takamura mentioning about that in the 1st season. Thought it was Yuki's fault for a second there. I know it's stupid to think that her nuclear problem was contagious , sorry I'm so ignorant.

Now it's Kamogawa's turn to step up to the plate.
