"Wonder if Yumi and Hiroyasu were together in the past D:"

Yeah I def. think so. That would explain why she seemed to get said when talking about persocoms, because a persocom took over his life and he became obsessed with it.

Ahhhh.... I wonder what is in the email?!

Really sad episode :( Yumi must've been in love with Ueda but he never noticed her because he was in love with his persocom

Damn.
Ueda's story made me cry. :( Even though the persocon got broken, it still saved its master from the accident.

Yep, something happened between Yumi and Ueda in the past. I'm not sure as of now. I hope they wrap up everything in these last episodes.

was I the only one that thought his little story was VERY awkward?

come on,win a girl's heart...you can't just buy a robot and marry it like that

Ueda's story, while touching, was also very awkward. Falling in love with a Persocom I can understand, but marrying one is just pathetic.

This anime started off great, but its extremely inconsistent, many aspects are corny and stupid, and its getting harder to watch with each episode.

Had this on hold for a while, but Ill probably finish it up in the next couple days just to get it over with.

Ahh I thought Mr Ueda had some kind of past like this. Very sad story though :( I can definitely see though if persocoms were actually real, people marrying them. I mean there are some lonely people in this world and those persocoms, sometimes even I forget they're robots while i'm watching.

But yeah, I think yumi had her heart broken by Ueda in the past.. or something. I hope chi comes back soon x_x

The way Ueda's story ended is about the only thing I liked about it. If the girly kept losing her memory how would she know getting hit by a car is dangerous? Or do some already come with basic knowledge? I doubt any do so her saving him, while having to sacrifice herself in the process, was tragic, but still sweet.

It seems Yumi does/did have a thing for Ueda. Them having some connection was surprising, hope to hear her side of the story too~

This anime is really eye opening. Even if it's a "robot" it doesn't matter if you love it or not.

Maybe I'm open minded. But, I don't find it awkward at all if a human loves a robot. Or anything, really. It's your choice who you love and how you love it. Not awkward at all. If I was in this situation, it would probably love Chii. Although, she's a chobit and different then most Persocoms.

Student/Teacher Relationship
Young/Older Relationship
Human/Persocom Relationship

Love is unpredictable.

Then again, it's subjective.

A tear has been shed, really sad backstory but well I totally agree on him on what he said! I do wonder what the connection is/was between Yumi and Ueda. But damn really nice episode, and yea like thought that kidnapper is the original sender of that picture.

Either way great episode, on the sad side but still wonderful!

Uh, wasn't she the one who told him about the job in the first place? And didn't she say she used to work at Tirol? Or am I remembering wrong?
Your mean should be an even bell curve only if you watch every show that comes out. Having a high-slung mean doesn't mean you're rating improperly. It can also mean you're selecting shows well to watch mostly things you enjoy.

I can't feel sorry for him. He should have backed up the hard drive for god sake. Maybe pay the extra for flash memory??? He could have recovered some data from the hard drive before she got hit by the truck. Idiot.

Oh yeah, and why the hell would you marry one!?!

This is only speculation but maybe Yumi use to like Ueda but I guess Ueda chose the persocom over her lol. That would explain why she feels so inadequate/insecure when Hideki talks about his persocom. Poor girl, looks like Hideki is going to do the same XD.

I wouldn't think of it as some kind of miraculous shit because of the Three Laws of Robotics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Laws_of_Robotics

So I'm sure CLAMP saw to it that they had this researched because this has been around long enough. Maybe the rules were installed somewhere else other than the main hard drive itself, since these are THE RULES for their existence.

If that were true, then Ueda's at a loss, and his persocom is just an ordinary computer (which it always was, which makes his story even more tragic).

Ueda's story was really sad. All these serious scenes (this and the one with the teacher) and the music playing during these scenes remind me a lot of Nana, which is expected since both these shows are directed by the same person.

Well it looks like we're on this side of Chobits again, good episode, good character development for a character that is rarely on screen. And it tells more about the relationship of Yumi and Ueda.

Yeah, I think it makes sense that these Persocoms are preprogrammed with actions that keep humans safe.

Actually there are 4 laws of robotics. Just type "about:robots" in the url bar (works at least in Firefox). :P

There's no way to look at Ueda's story as anything else than utterly pathetic. I get that it's essentially the same with Chii and Hideki, but at least Hideki isn't spouting nonsense about "love at first sight" in regards to machines. I just can't take it seriously.

Wait, how is it that no one seems strange that possibly Ueda and Yumi Omura have a past ..
He is 39 years old and she is 17!
The question isn't "What anime do you like?" That is merely a list.
The question is "Why do you like it?" That tells a story. Your story.

Chobits' focus on the potentially complicated relationships between persocom and human is realistic, but a bit sad, because of how it's ultimately not that complicated. These are androids that are functionally and mentally identical (at least) to humans, and all of them have been selfless throughout the anime, yet there's a persistent narrative about them being "not human" as if it's a negative trait. It reminds me that so many people in reality become irrational and hostile at the idea of intelligent robots, and fish for excuses to mistreat/abuse these hypothetical beings, like the mere notion of their existence brings out their most immoral desires.

Anyway, Ueda's backstory is very melancholy. Picking up a forgotten persocom like that and trying to give her a chance at life, only for her to suffer hardware failure and memory loss. I'm thinking that  persocoms must have inbuilt programming that makes them protect their "master", or even just nearby humans in dangerous situations.

Everyone's going through the ringer. Chii, Hideki, Yumi and now even the nice bakery shop owner Hiroyasu Ueda! Clamp is really doing a good job of exploring both sides of falling in love with a robot.
