THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------

The plot seems to be quite balanced for the anime. The previous episodes focus on crossing a large distance across the solar system and highlighting the various defense mechanisms of the Space Battleship Yamato, was this episode pushed aside and set on giving adequate screentime to Kodai and other members on the ship. It was well done and filled with a bit of comedy such as his interactions with the female partner he was paired with, as well as for other members, their inquisitive nature into the food on the ship and the raw materials for it.

Plot wise, pretty heavy on the action and suspense.

Critical engine failure made for a landing to encounter extra terrestrials while investigating a distress call.
.

Nice visuals and space battle choreography, works well with the visual style and music they have going on, and missile paths and explosions were cool.

Another episode lovingly remade and updated from the original. It looks like I'm going to have to go and watch a few more of the original episodes just to catch up to this point in the story, but the improved animation and the tweaks given to the plot (more female characters, and particularly more important female characters) are evident.

I was hoping they would explain why the Yamato's weapons can destroy Gamilus' ships, but oh well. Also, I was kinda disappointed that there was no Desslok.

They're using totally different weapons from the ones at Pluto in episode 1. A massive technological advancement due to the energy they can now tap. And it's "Dessler" not Desslok. Desslok is from the English dubbed American release from the 70's.

Another 2 great episodes, they got a pretty badass weapon there, annihilating an entire continent.

Btw, is there an ETA for OVAs 5 and 6? (since they were apparently in the same movie as 3 and 4)

5 and 6 came out on the same blu-ray as 3-4.

I've seen your release, which is excellent by the way. The only reason I know this is because your group explained it in the credits. I was hoping they would make it explicit in the remake. Sorry for not mentioning that.

Also, I don't care.

EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks for making Central Anime. You guys are awesome.

It's nice to see the crew members getting friendly together. There was this cute couple, Motoki Takagi (Terra e...'s Matsuka) is voicing the young guy. I see they have a mining base, the icicles graphics there was superior. I'm sure I'd be more astonished by the grahics with more episodes coming up!

I'm loving this. The mix between the old school feel, gorgeous visuals and classic OST is win win in my book.

Awesome episode, in a similar episode in the original, Kodai actually blew up a tank by himslef and Analyzer threw tanks in the air, lol.
I don't like that Yuki in this version is a bit of a tsundere, but I do like that they're giving them some more personality overall. And I also don't mind that Analyzer seems to be just a robot with no personality in this version (in the original he had more personality than most of the humans on board, lol).

How is the food made ? ... "why you ask such hard questions ?" / "You're better off not knowing"...
Hate these kinds of cheap tricks, all because they're too lazy to come up with something plausible. Don't they understand it's these details that make a sci-fi work good or bad.

The opening sends really strong oldies vibes, i like it :p

Too bad we can see some shounen-ish trends, such as "it's an enemy but i'll still help him". Isn't needed imo.

yoooo fucking hell mate
is that the gun Tetsurou used in 999? shiiiiiit please be the same gun
that would make things WAY cooler

I have to say, this is sum real top-grade shit. BUT OF COURSE, the fact that it was made in the 21st century means that there WILL, inevitably, BE generic comic relief characters and annoying immature reactions found in every Chinese-quality Chingchong Cartoon nowadays. Would've done WAY better without that gunk.

But seeing as how this is an adaptation of Nishizaki Yoshinobu's work and not Leiji's work.........OH, the tragedy! I've been misled! Damn you Morgan Freeman!

I'm sure there have been several more important things ignored than how they get their food ;)

As for wanting to help the enemy soldier, she's a medic so it shouldn't be surprising that she wants to help the wounded. Nothing shounen about it.

I'm liking it so far. However, what bothers me is everything fitting too perfectly.

A distress call from some random Saturn moon. Then the engine fucks up a few seconds later and turns out the materials needed to fix it IS ON THAT VERY MOON. Well that makes decisions easier. By coincidence, the call comes from big bro Kodai's ship which was destroyed nearby Pluto but by chance ends up on this Saturn moon.

Either someone is pulling the strings of fates behind the scenes or the writing is plain shoddy.

For some reason I remember the original discovery of the Yukikaze was more emotional, but well in general it was a very lovely episode with some nice action!

Let's see what's next.

Reminds me of Halo, exception being the OPness of the Yamato. Loved the animation and fluidity in the battle scenes. The music, thank god, they know better to make it anything more than it should be. Spectacular.

"We have to heal him!"
"He's an enemy!"
"Who cares?!"
Exactly why females are a burden on the battlefield.

Oh! I did not imagine that Yamato suffered so much because of the youth of his project, these difficulties give a greater realism to history and more pathos to the plot. Interesting the brief digression on the enemy, one understands that as much as they can be evolved, they too suffer the same problems that afflict the terrestrial civilization. The use of androids on the battlefield has given even more interest to the new skirmish between the good and the bad, beautiful aerial choreography and the tactics of war adopted by the enemy. The relationship between Mori and Kodai is starting to evolve, the interactions between the various characters are fun, I'm satisfied that they start to see more of the rest of the cast.

Action-wise it was astounding, and the reveal of the ship's identity was emotional. However... Wasn't Yukikaze shown to be blown up in 1 episode in the battle near Pluto? How did it end up on Enceladus pretty much intact? Looks like a disappointing plothole...
