Another witch named Sophie shows up this time. As talented as she is, it looks like she has a goal to...get rid of magic? What.

Either way, the episode did give a chance for Meg to understand Sophie somewhat. I do have to admit that on some levels, this show does a neat job at its colorful cast so far. All of them feel somewhat unique to their personalities.

Another really good episode for Meg’s development. This week we’re using the power of yuri to change lives and melt hearts lol. Sophie may be one of the 7 sages, but Meg felt like the teacher today, changing her entire outlook on life in such a short span of time.

Hard to blame Sophie for wanting to get rid of magic from the world. Being shunned by and taken away from your family all because of something outside your control will do that to a kid. Just can’t imagine seeing my kid be born so talented and instead of nurturing it and realizing the potential applications of her abilities, you send her off to the magic counsel. If your own parents don’t want you, who would? Comes as no surprise Sophie is as edgy and sad as she is.

Despite their differences in magic ability, Meg and Sophie have a ton in common and Faust was smart to put them together. Meg covers it up with smiles and lesbian jokes but she also had no family until Faust came around and is literally dying so if anyone should be depressed and mopey it’s her, yet she’s choosing to keep fighting!

Speaking of lesbian jokes, Meg telling Fine she would drink her piss is absolutely one of the craziest things I’ve ever heard. They’re not even going subtle anymore πŸ˜‚ “you’re my legal wife Fine” we better get the yuri harem ending or we riot.

Fun episode, but Meg better get to work on those tears

Sophie had it rough, even her parents abandoned her because they couldn’t understand her.

That line about Fine wetting herself after seeing Sophie, and Meg replying that she wanted to drink it? It never gets old between those two.

Meg showed some real guts and impressive effort with her magic—even though she’s still not that skilled. But with Sophie’s help, they managed to take care of that weird creature.

So this was a life lesson for both Sophie and Megu.
They have gotten close and learned a lot from each other.
I hope we will see them together more often.

It amazes me that the whole starting premise for the show, "the apprentice is going to die, so she needs to gather pure tears of joy", has completely taken a backseat to other side stories in the show.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Sophie circumstances are not easy and there are a few heavy stuff, but overall it felt like one of the most comedic episodes yet: lots of silly Meg faces, yuri jokes, Sophie deadpan humor.
I had a good laugh.
Also, some nice magic bits, loved the gate construction.

Really good show, its a different class to the normal fantasy clichés. Background art is colourful and vibrant, the characters extremely interesting. Behind the light hearted surface there is something a bit more serious going on.
Don't understand why the score is that low.

Once again, S'berry was called stupid—also loud and only good in the kitchen. But at least not 'corrupted.' Ah, the classic sandwich method: when you can’t say something nice without wrapping it in insults. I’m still not Faust’s biggest fan.

We also saw that Meg is actually pretty skilled at magic when it matters (like during her circle training). It feels like the show might be building toward something with this—though I hope I’m wrong.

I’m really curious about Meg’s origins, and I hope it’s at least a little surprising! ;-)

Pretty decent episode overall, but the humor really isn't doing it for me though. After like the 5th time meg has asked Fine and now Sophie to marry her and become her wife it just goes from not funny to annoying. I get that it's a "she acts like an old man joke" but it's not really funny. The other aspects of the show are pretty decent, but I gotta say it's a bit off how her upcoming "death" is being handled, half the time it's almost like it's not even a thing.

The characters are pretty mixed too, Sophie is a pretty good character to add in to the show, Fine is still kinda just there without much purpose, and Meg is just simply not funny but at least she has semi-decent character development so far. At least the S'berry joke was kinda funny and they stopped it before it got old (I hope).

@ejleon Yeah it feels like it doesn't exist half the time because it's barely been mentioned and talked about.

@MewsicMagic I agree with you. I actually was curious how they would keep finding ways for her to help people, but it has almost disappeared, besides being mentioned in quick mention.

Also, I like your tag line.
Mind if I send a friend request?

What's up with these demented jokes?? It's so weird seeing this kind of humor here that I can't help but laugh.

I realize I actually don't mind this. That premise has the risk of making this show too heavy and sentimental, and they obviously want to have some fun with this gremlin of a character.

Not sure why they even picked such a serious premise, honestly. I would've been fine with a simple "funny witch apprentice helps out around town" set-up.

Yeah after this episode I wonder if Meg was a middle aged guy from another world and was gender-bendered and reincarnated into the one she's in now. While I liked the toilet humor (literally with that piss joke) and the premise of this episode I can't help but wonder why the tear collection has taken a back seat. I'm assuming that at some point it will be revisited and maybe her new friend Sophie will help her out.

They talk about this town like if it was lane af, and then they show us this big festival thing and shit, that's weird.

Sophie is really cute I like her.

Another episode where Meg doesn't get a single tear drop! This girl is going straight to her death lmao

Also piss driking joke out of nowhere, nice one Meg! 🀣

As I've said, still glad the series isn't taking handling of its premise overly seriously. While still knowing when to hit on the emotional beats when needed. Also appreciative of how out there and graphic they're willing to get with some of the humor and the picture it paints of where Meg's mind often is.

More to the point, really, is that even if it's a morbid premise, they can still have a fun time along the way. Something like the spirit of Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou - and that was the entire human species and world on the edge of oblivion, not just one person.

God, I want to see that Majo no Tabitabi X Aru Majo ga Shinu Made crossover some day. Meg would fall for Elaina in a Lapis minute as hard as Saya.

Nice episode. I was half expecting Sophie to cry tears of joy at the end, but it wouldn't feel earned and she's probably never cried. I wonder if she'll be a regular.

I realised when the OP started that it was the one I'd had the opening guitar bit of stuck in my head all week. I was convinced it was from something I'd watched less recently... Love the ED too.

The fact that you can’t recognize that this anime has not been consistent with its starting premise is just so frustrating.

@ejleon I know, my guess is the source material would be very short if she just went straight to filling up the tears of joy. Besides this shows very cute so yeah.

@Gameranime88 But she is going to die, plus she is making promises after she survives, how does that not take precedence over being "cute"? I am not saying the show is bad or unenjoyable, I am saying that the writing needs to be inclusive, the main topic and the sub-topics, working towards a goal. At this rate, she is going to lose all her time to collect tears of pure joy.

@ejleon it just mainly her personality, positive vibes, kind of character, she doesn't have that doom and gloom style. Not everybody's going to be like sitting in a corner and just doing nothing in life. And waiting for your demise. Then we got the people that don't waste their time on negativity and live their life just by what they have to do. And at last, she is a teenager lol. Teenagers are dumb ;)
