It looks like Shiro and Yuri has conflicting ideals about exorcists and demons. Regardless, it's fate that the two would find each other again in their timeline. The timeskip and her becoming an exorcist is also necessary development for her character. As this arc is about her story, Yuri's academy life is also shown along with Shiro's. I love how fearless Yuri became in this timeline since her introduction. She's grown both physically and mentally. |

young father's senpai seems to be attacked mysteriously. already has injury. he got the glasses from him. both young father and mother ranked up. he's been playing. a huge demon at pyramid like place. young mother volunteered to stop it. she stopped it by listening to it. young father not liking the result, getting Miyu-Miyu's character involved, and young mother slapped him. some amendment and kiss. he rejected her at first but later said going to be friend. lol @ main guy embarrassed. satan is already in him? there's also change in their relationship. and satan awakes next. |

Yukio is one of those characters I can’t stand for no real reason, just because of his face. The mole and those glasses really get under my skin. I just want to punch him. The problem now is that Yuri looks so much like him, and I feel the same way about her. |

This story is megatons better than anything last Season, which was still pretty good but Yukio definitely got on my nerves. Shura's story was great though. But I also have to remind myself, like Mephisto did for Rin, this is all headed for Tragedy big time. We have heard of the Blue Night for years in this Series. Now I want to SEE IT. |

Japan doesn't remotely understand Christianity the animated series continues on. They had female higher ups wearing comforters and something on a horse statue at the "alter". I don't even know where to start with all of this. It just gets more and more confused in those aspects each season. They began with that classic pagan/shinto thinking that demons can be helpful and exorcise demons. I let that go because it's to be expected in anime. The ending of the first season was semi sympathetic to satan and pushed me off any hope of really liking the series back then, as fun as the story was overall. Now we're at demons are good and created by people's beliefs or whatever. You took the wrong turn, Kazue Kato. I can handle the not understanding and slightly warped aspects, even though they do bother me, being religious. I wouldn't dock a story points for that. You broke the logic in story's world with this reveal of demon origins. That is a no no and degrades the story. If you cut out God and angels from the world's origins then why are Christian things used in exorcisms or at all? It was essentially revealed that God doesn't exist in this world. The logic broke. They don't need bibles and religious items, text, chants, prayers, etc. if Christianity is only a cover for some demon body creating scheme. Those things would hold zero power in that world and over demons. There's a gaping hole in the logic. You really screwed up Kazue Kato. It reminds me of that Japanese village that claims Christ didn't die on the cross, but escaped to that village and had a family there. If Christ didn't die on the cross then he doesn't matter.. It's literally the entire point. Sacrafice is the central thing in Christianity and the claim is there was no sacrafice. He just ran away to selfishly be a rice farmer in Japan. They really don't understand Christianity at all. There you go. This is another unhinged rant from this bored individual who can no longer share ideas on Crunchyroll because no one believes in free speech anymore. Have fun reading or get mad or whatever. |

Is very interesting, even without knowing their mother, Rin and Yukio developed a fondness for Shiemi, that literally aligns with Yuri's personality traits. Shiro thoughts at the end seeing Yuri working hard: "Nice" |

I'll forever be glad that the author chose to make Shiro reject Yuri in that scene (considering she's a minor and he's an adult). Todo makes an appearance again and his family, the only exorcist family (including him), I hate more than the Shima family (excluding Renzo Shima), although there are still a lot more characters between them. Also Lucy and Osceola look so young compared to their season 4 selves, then again this is several years in the past, but it's good to see them again. Yuri is such a badass and she still manages to be friendly, cheerful and caring. (Can we have more female characters like this please?) And of course Mephisto has to keep reminding Rin and the audience that this story will end in tragedy. |

@Cestlavie_ For obvious reasons the anime is using more explicit episodes names , but in the manga , each chapter was named like SSc 11:29 , which means the equivalent of Episode 3 happened 29 years ago. We know Shiro was 51 when he died in the beginning (comes from Volume 1) , so he was ~22 in this episode , which makes sense. |

@portajohn Greetings, I would like to leave a comment here even before watching this episode, which I am certain I will greatly enjoy. However, after reading a particular reaction, I felt compelled to address the matter. Dear Christian brother, I fully understand your frustration. I, too, have experienced similar feelings, particularly when reading the manga #DRCL. Your critique is entirely valid. That being said, expecting religious coherence or an in-depth understanding of a subject as intricate as Christianity in a work like Blue Exorcist seems, with all due respect, somewhat misguided. This series does not aim to provide theological insights or an accurate representation of any faith. Instead, it merely uses religious themes as a narrative framework to drive its story. To my knowledge, no one watches Blue Exorcist with the intention of gleaning theological lessons or spiritual truths. The appeal of this work lies elsewhere. Therefore, taking offense at its lack of fidelity to religious doctrine seems somewhat misplaced. Additionally, having re-read nearly the entirety of the manga, I found no instance of explicit disdain toward God. Perhaps this is a matter of interpretation, but I personally did not perceive any such moment. Lastly, if I may address a sensitive point with the utmost kindness: criticizing the lack of respect for Christianity in this series while simultaneously enjoying works whose values are far removed from Christian principles could be seen as contradictory. For instance, some of the media you consume engage with themes openly contrary to the Christian faith, whether through explicit content or the complete absence of any spiritual dimension. This is not to judge but merely to underline a discrepancy in the reasoning. Perhaps it would be more enriching to focus on creations that strengthen your faith rather than linger on those that fail to represent it adequately. Calm your spirit, my friend, and do not allow yourself to be troubled by such trivial matters as the portrayal of religion in Blue Exorcist. There are greater battles to fight in the name of the Lord. May God bless you abundantly. Amen. |

How come Yuri was angry with Shiro and accused him on being a weakling and now she’s in love with him? That’s a bit weird. The research lab is amazing, but evil plans are there as well. The Exorcists are getting more and more. |

Why is Yuri in love with Shiro? That shit was so out of nowhere lol And he began fucking every girl he sees, wtf, I really hope he doesn't turn out to be the real father of Rin and Yukio, like, Yuri doesn't deseve someone like him. Even Old Man’s glasses are symbolic, I wouldn’t have guessed that. Thought he became blind like me as he aged lol. We got a timeskip to get to the most important, part, graduation. Shiro & Yuri have grown and see their purpose differently. Shiro knows only to destroy demons while Yuri seeks to work with them. The golem mission highlights their differences in this approach. The Order is way more political than simple black and white kill and destroy. And who’s the best person to handle the mission? Someone they wouldn’t have expected, a second class. Yuri quickly proved herself a badass! To confront that golem without fear and let it rest in peace. Bravo! She really is a more extroverted version of Shiemi, especially tendering to those green minis Yuri even stood up and slapped the heck out of Shiro. So much so that he was pondering over it later and confronted her. But she didn’t fold. But instead..confessed and kiss him!? Woah that escalated. But he’s starting to open up to her and she’s gonna be the one woman to stick around while the rest were for a good time. P.S. Old Man Shiro was a player back in his day!! Imagine if he told that story to Rin & Yukio had he survived. Rin would’ve been like “No way old man!” Yukio would’ve been embarrassed 😂😂 |

Man this backstory has been so good and its only ep 3 which is rare for me to be excited for a backstory too , really does point towards Yuri being the father but seeing that one clone that was getting constantly possessed by Satan has me questioning things... i mean we still saw the fate of him at the start of the series but somethings up |

I love how Shiro is the supporting cast One would naturally assume the Paladin backstory would take center stage, but Yuri steals the show <3 It's really weird how Rin acted all surprised at the research lab, but the very first scene of this arc he sees Shiro as lab experiment #4 I swear they somehow missed all of the context of the clones being a stop-gap measure so Assiah wasn't instantly destroyed by Lucifer/Satan due to "missing all the fun" due to not having vessels that could contain them Odd how the vessels end up being maybe every single Paladin ever knighted .... It may seem like nasty biz, but Mephisto is certainly doing it for Humanity. Illuminati trying to merge the worlds is apparently Plan B for some in Gehenna |

This fifth season already stands out as the finest in the series, and remarkably, it achieves this in just three episodes. Three episodes that were enough for Yuri to outshine Rin and win over the hearts of countless viewers. But as always, let us examine things step by step. This episode proves far less tragic than its predecessor. Instead, it offers a profound ideological clash between Shiro and Yuri, each championing diametrically opposed visions in a perilous and gripping confrontation. Yet, it becomes evident that Yuri’s empathy and gentleness triumph over Shiro’s brutality and resentment. Their contrasting approaches to life further emphasize this dichotomy. From the moment of his emancipation, Shiro succumbed to his most depraved impulses, while Yuri has devoted herself entirely to understanding and aiding others, demons included. Despite his seemingly impenetrable exterior, Yuri manages to pierce through Shiro’s defenses, reaching his heart with a sincerity that is both disarming and profound. The scene in which she confronts his choices stands out as one of the series’ most touching and powerful moments, revealing an unexpected humanity in the gruff old priest. On a technical level, this episode delivers magnificently. The direction is masterfully executed, the animation is absolutely amazing, and the use of color amplifies the emotional weight of pivotal scenes. The music, too, is nothing short of sublime. Special mention must be made of Megumi Hayashibara’s vocal performance (renowned for her roles as Faye Valentine in Cowboy Bebop and Shirogane in Karakuri Circus), which imbues Yuri with a tender humanity, even in moments of crisis. Several times, I found myself deeply moved by her gentle voice, carrying an unwavering love for those around her. Karakuri Circus has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on me... Finally, without giving too much away, it is clear that with such a talented team and a narrative of this caliber, the tragic ending foretold by Mephisto since the very beginning will profoundly affect us, leaving an unforgettable imprint on our wounded hearts. This is what Blue Exorcist is all about. And the upcoming episodes are sure to drive this point home even further. I cannot wait to see where this journey leads. |

@portajohn This is an alternate world, so not everything will be equable with Earth. I can see the comforter thing, most Abrahamic religions try and ensure Priests aren't tempted by curves of females. Sexual energy is part of the fuel used for magic, depleting it will weaken one's abilities until it recharges Demons are just a label. There are neutral entities, some who are chaotic and others lawful. Good and evil are subjective. Mephisto and others enjoy this world and if there's only blood-spilling and rampages, then it wrecks their little playground. So some will police the other Gehenna entities either by forcing them to behave or removing their vessel used to stay in Assiah Their take on Gods, Angels and Demons runs in a similar vein. Powers from the adjacent non-physical or spiritual world. Some seen as Creators, others Destroyers. Some wish to Aid, some wish to Rule They haven't touched on Creator itself, as like here, The All in Hermetics isn't something you can name, point to, or have show up physically. It is Creation Itself. All is the Creator. The religious icons and mantras, sutras are like spells and triggers/foci. Used to draw out, shape and willfully manifest Magic. Source may be within, who knows. Christ's role was to Teach. To push back on the Old Testament and the obvious control through tyrrany it has established for 2000 years. The Father (Creator) is accessible to All. That's why He spent his time with those who needed it the most. The tax collectors, lepers, ladies of the night. Free speech is great. Philosophy and working through concepts and having other's perspectives is a path toward growth and understanding. It's even easier when it's a fictional setting. JP does fight against religion a lot in manga/anime. Often demons are good and priests are evil. Although my previous statement holds true. Good/Evil are subjective. My preference is Service to Others polarity, or Service to Self. With ones true intentions, not whatever outward appearance you try and convey. Some of the world's biggest philanthropists use that as a cover for very dark deeds. Peace ~ |

@Gemini_Star I see. I think I see the recurrence. After that, I don't think these are the works whose religious side is the most important, knowing the other underlying problems that exist in them, (at least, for the “isekais” you quoted). On the other hand, Fma? My viewing dates back a few years but I have no recollection of that, to be honest. |
