THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Interesting, we got an theater academy featuring an all girl cast. Ai Narata seems to be the most prominent of the main girls so far but there's also quite a bit of other characters introduced too. Sayaka is also someone to keep an eye on with that bubbly personality of hers.

Animation looks decent with the light coloring and shoujo-like designs. Ai has talent and I think we'll see her improve a lot given the amount of competition.

Nice start imo.

Hopefully this Kageki Shoujo show is doing things differently from Revue Starlight while keeping the Takarazuka Revue spirit alive, from what I've seen so far, it looks to be just that with its own derivative of the Kouka Opera. Looking at some decent expectations since Revue Starlight is still unironically the best Revue show of all-time IMO.

Ai "Naracchi" Narata is a standout girl because of her well-known presence, not to mention her ex-idol stuff. Sarasa Watanabe is tall and elegant like a gazette, which speaks a lot about her bubbly and enthusiastic character that doesn't seem like a form of nicetie to Ai. To make matters even worse, they're both dorm roommates, but they have to get along if they want to go far.

A synchronized military training for girls, well that's a first I'm hearing of such a training. At least for newcomers into the school, they have a lot to learn.

A nice start all things considered.

Though a military style training is not what I've expected at all, it seems out of place, but these girls will have to go through a lot of stuff to get things going.

A nice start all things considered.

In fact, this is practically the whole point of teaching disciples for Takarazuka. Their school is so well-known for its strictness that they even had to soften some of the practices last year due to complaints from parents.

I do see some minor Yuri vibes especially when they were standing under the sakura tree, and I like that

Most of the males irritated me, the military dude was ok

And I also find the animation to be a bit off. The girls weren't as cute as I want them to be. Not ugly either but they could be cuter. They look kind of weird with odd proportions But the colors were very nice IMO

I give this anime 1/10 for now.Overall It didn't suit my taste very well

The Kouka Revue is actually the well-known Takarazuka Revue in the city of Takarazuka.
Ai and Sarasa's personalities are quite in the opposite way. However, in my opinion, they will be a good partner in the future.
It looks like that the danger is approaching Ai. I hope Sarasa could protect her from that obsessive fanclub.

Not a bad episode 1

I prefer Yumiri Hanamori voicing the genki girl, but that's just my personal preference.
I don't know how relevant the stalker guy ends up being, but either way, this could end up being a decent one

Why on earth is the music in this show so loud? And so much piano. And why are we having ballet dancers march around for a military inspection? It's not meant to be some goofy principal taking his job too seriously or the like, but that is the army, checking in on the local dance studio to give the fresh recruits a once over and literally push a few of them around. This is beyond creepy, right? I'm not crazy? Anyway, the oh so creative story of an apathetic girl who hates show business and people, going to school for show business and working with people, matched with a girl who loves show business and people. What an odd couple they are. So wacky. So quirky. So much piano. And I really can't understate how goddamned much piano there is. If there is one take-away that you should have from this commentary, it's that please, no more piano.

In any case, this isn't one of the comedies that is funny, or one of the dramas that has interesting characters struggling in compelling ways, or even something with a passion for its artistic subject matter. It is a show about a sullen, brooding, former idol ass being forced to roommate and team up with a crazy girl for the sake of having a show, a fact which instead of disguising or even throwing something up like "she's a legacy," they decided to just make explicit. As in there is an entire scene where virtually every named character sits around and outright says "This girl has no business being in this school, but can you imagine the zany adventures if we let her in? Would make a pretty great show, right? She's so quiiiiiirky!" Not really, no. She is tall, somewhat ditzy, and slightly exciteable, and everybody around her are asses. You are underestimating how wild and crazy you think she is, and overestimating the sympathy I have for jerks, and severely miscalculating how much goddamned piano I can tolerate in one show.

@Kayle_x_Morgana The full version of the story is pure shoujo, so there is no intention of making the characters physically attractive. Although as you can see, the local male or androgynous female characters are pretty cute.

@RayReynolds It's a shoujo of culture, brace yourself, there will be quite a lot of piano and a lot of melodrama.

Solid first episode. Ai seems to have a dark past as a former idol. Sarasa is a cheerful character whom I believe will bring a positive change in Ai. This anime definitely has potential to be something bigger but it looks like not many of them are gonna watch it. This is gonna be a underrated gem like Mashiro no Oto.

I was pleasantly surprised by the show as I went in w.o reading the manga. The first episode was much better than expected and I've completely lost it at the JSDF gag. Somewhat glad it does things its own way and feels completely different from Revue Starlight. Defo looking forward to it ^^

I'm kinda bothered by Ai behavior, is understandable hating man, bad past, okay. But be certainly rude with good person like Sarasa, is just over the line.

Captain Anai is a funny guy.

I will continue to watch because I like Sakura Taisen/Glass Mask, but more importantly Sarasa captivated me with her fighting spirit.
And hopefully Ai will get down off her high horse, after all we have a class full of talented girls.

Seems decent but my impression overall is largely neutral. Ai is a little too moody and while I don't particularly mind that I'm not particularly inclined to find anything compelling towards her character. Maybe it will change.

The captain was an amusing guy and Sarasa seems like fun.

This is probably going to be heavily melodramatic but I just hope it's compelling enough.

I was really looking forward to this anime since the synopsis and pv looked interesting and I'm glad this premise didn't disappoint.

This episode reeled me in fast. Liked the setting, character interactions and overall flow of the episode was really great. The characters seem like they'll be amusing, specially Sarasa. She's tall, beautiful and seems like a fun girl to be with. The other ex idol is a fun one too.

A really Beautiful premise, I totally loved this episode. Looking forward to more.

Better than I was expecting. It’s pretty fun so far and is probably my favorite of the debuts so far his season. The writing is witty and fast-paced. And while the art certainly isn’t the most detailed, it is charming in its own way without coming across as too limited. I’m looking forward to seeing more.

Putting aside the very clear Takarazuka Revue influences this show has which would remind you of say Revue Starlight you know what this show reminds me of? Maria-sama ga Miteru.

We have our main lead Sarasa who is an outlier, a normal every day girl outside of the norm of the usual prestigious alumni in Kouka. Tall, quirky, determined and optimistic to a fault.

We have Ai "Naracchi" Narata, a stoic girl who seem to have a great dislike of men and wants absolutely nothing to do with Sarasa. Yet through fate and some very convenient circumstances seem to very deeply connected/attracted to her presence.

Sarasa set herself some big goals by wanting to play Lady Oscar, I love how unrelentingly positive/optimistic she seems in the face of adversity.

I don't really care about the yuri bait aspect of this show, seeing the two become best friends would be enough for me personally.

The concept of the school is nice as well. Like the bright colours, character designs and seems like it’ll be a good time. Anything shojo is worth the watch.

I was really surprised coming from the manga how ai was centered as the protagonist instead of sarasa. It gives the show a different feel from what I was expecting (my expectations were that it would feel alike a sports anime but with girls' opera, given sarasa's character). The animation wasn't perfect but I think they made it count; the animation of the (main) characters had character lol. They also condensed it a lot. I was expecting the first episode to just be on exams, and I was not expecting the fan subplot to be hinted to have its climax so soon. I hope they pace that well because while that specific incident isn't ai's main internal conflict, it is definitely caught up in it.

Lol, this is shoujo, with a pretty typical friendship theme for this kind of work. How does it become something like all-female seinen yuri bait? I can understand people seeing the yuri subtext here, but to think that this show is purposefully trying to be yuri bait above all else is pretty silly.

Saw that this is inspired from a real world acting group and acting school, that's pretty cool. Even got creepy stans and people getting cancelled in here bruh. I really like Sarasa, that sumo stance looked so cool lmao. Worried for Ai though, hopefully Sarasa's got her back. Definitely one of my favorites so far this season, hope it keeps it up.

Ngl this is weird as fuck. Ai hates men, but not all men, but clearly speaks "no stench of men", implying they are all the same, she’s not saying "no weird men" or "no otaku men". Why? I think it would be much more logical and interesting if her trauma didn’t somehow choose which men she is okay with, and so she would be struggling with male teachers and Sarasa would cheer her on and help her mind heal. Also I don’t understand why she is going into theatre, she has no enthusiasm or motive to do so. And why would you leave being an idol to then become an actor, which has a lot of similarities especially being a social figure, which oh-oh, attracts more men! Or is the theater actually only visited by women who fall in love with each other?
And don’t even get me started on this dumb shit where it’s the academy of "unmarried woman" or some shit like that. I personally can’t stand this whole idea of virgin purity. Treating the academy with such a name seriously would be catering to weird men actually, so hopefully Ai rises a riot or I’m not rating this highly
