Geez, Asahi looked so vulnerable this episode with all those tears flowing down her face. She's got so much guts for digging at that gravesite.

Props to her for bringing Sawa back to the surface world again. I'd hate to see her lie like that in the ground. Asahi may be one of the very few people Sawa can trust now. Jin is also quite a badass for taking care of those soldiers without breaking a sweat.

Well...what a lie from Makoto to give Asahi instructions to ensure that Sawa is (temporarily) dead, without any further questions. It's up to Asahi's acting to ensure that both her and Sawa survive without any hiccups, and escape away from the Nue assassination lifestyle (to which leader Jin got deceited real bad).

So the Yoshinobu Tokugawa plotline starts here, and with a full-on rebellion between citizens and the Shogunate. Jin is so affixed on Janome's artificial blood from the Karasumori, which can only mean one thing or the other. Redemption is but the only path that he could walk on a tight rope.

The journey of Sawa and Asahi's lives...hope they remain safe.

makoto is still alive !!! some lose screws in the head but alive ! that scene in sawa's dream(?) was freaky. especially when she tried to hold the baby and it turned out to be some kind of undead asahi. sawa and asahi's gonna live together in a new place, excited to see how that'll turn out, more lore on jin too.

Makoto and Sawa both still alive! Yay. Was a bit confused with the end of last week’s episode, but it all makes sense now. Sawa and Asahi have left Tokyo to live a more peaceful life, but no way the Shogun will let that happen. As the last of her clan, Sawa’s blood is invaluable to the Shogun’s plan. He’ll send his goons after them for sure :/

Second half should be fun

Things are actually starting to get more interesting now. The short time period for Sawa’s “death” and the high-stakes escape plan was a smart way to raise some suspence. The head of the executioners is looking more and more unhinged as the episodes go on. He could be a dangerous final villain.

The entire scene with Asahi's acting had me on the edge. Thankfully everything went smoothly and they're finally getting to live together somewhere far, and that too without having to kill anyone. Though I have a hunch that something bad is definitely gonna happen :/

Makoto is in a really bad state. I was surprised that none of the guards caught him while he was screaming due to his hallucinations.

So unexpected twist, Glad that Asahi didn't kill Sawa for real. Asahi did a great job and Makoto is going to be crazy.

We all knew that Sawa wouldn't die.

It was cool to see how Asahi managed to fake her death, and how it was all planned out. All of Makoto's instructions and predictions worked like a charm.

I'm really liking the direction the show is heading right now
Revenge plots are great and all but they've honestly gotten a bit stale as of late. I'm glad they decided to change it up.
Of course, running away from nue is going to be highly risky, and so I'm sure we'll see lots of suspense and action, but also some more thriller.

But by far my favourite part about this episode is how they recontextualised the head of nue into a kind of Darth Vader figure. He's an unstoppable killing machine without much of hint of remorse - however he does have his own feelings buried in there somewhere, and it's interesting to see him wrestle with what the right decision to be making is. However he serves the shogunate and will never go so far as to outright betray him without a plan to stay in control. This guy originally felt to me more like M from James Bond - the kind of guy who sits there while others do the dirty work. But he proved to be way more than that, and is now easily my favourite character in the series

1- Direction this episode was great, not only but specially that dream scene
2- The theme of the anime seems to no longer be revenge and rather freedom, and I might say these last two episodes were completely compelling, surely a step up from the first eps.
3- This is likely to become an anime about revolution against the power. The fact that Jin doesn't inform about "Saya's death" (he actually knew she wasn't dead since the raven was still hanging around, and the direction does take the effort to highlight that he notices the crow) actually tells that he no longer will surrender to the orders of the Tokugawa, and that he will try to help Saya and, considering what is showed in the last scene, I dare to say society too.

Not sure they did. I mean, if the anime just goes one without telling anything about that, we might supose that they did or that is was only a minor plothole, but there's still a great chance that they get found as soon as next episode

Pretty impressive on Asahi's part to carry out that entire plan perfectly. This episode seems to be setting up some interesting events for the 2nd half of the show. I thought the revenge plot would take up the whole season, but it looks like things are going in a different direction entirely instead.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

Pretty good episode! I think that was my favorite one so far, directing was pretty good as well. That was a nice plan by Tsukishiro and props to Asahi for going through it and actually succeeding, though I think the only reason Asahi succeeded is because Kuzuhara allowed her to succeed, cause I am 100% sure that she saw through what she was doing.

That dream of Sawa was pretty sad, it was a great visualization. Good to see Tsukishiro is still alive, but he's still in a pretty dangerous situation, I guess those drugs she took are like some hallucinogenic pain killers or something. We still don't really know though whether Elena is alive or dead, hopefully the former.

Jin is still a mystery, he seems pretty loyal to the administration, but it feels like he's also conflicted, especially towards Sawa. Speaking of Sawa, I hope Asahi and her actually find peace there in Iwai prefecture, but I doubt that, they're gonna get dragged back in somehow. Looking forward to the next episode.

IMO, this series is much stronger when forgetting the supernatural element and delving into the dark, assassin-spy theme. This would have been so much more coherent if the supernatural was not there. It is also notably very absent, I mean I can count how many times there are "chimeras" or transforming yokai humans, and most of the time, I lose interest.

Sawa and Makoto confirmed alive but not Elena. This is what I thought after last week's episode, but I'm still hoping beyond hope that the people predicting all three to be alive are right.

Speaking of hope, I really, really, really want Asahi to survive this series. Throughout the entire episode, I felt she was going to die, and at this point, I'm just waiting to be sad.

I know, right? My heart was breaking for her, especially when she described her clutching at her chest and then again when she realised there was only 15 minutes left until Sawa woke up and potentially suffocated to death. The fact that it all hinged on Asahi's 'performance' made it so gripping. I was convinced that Jin knew she wasn't really dead once he spotted Nana in the tree though.

Well, that was some plan. Declaring someone dead and then everything else. It was good indeed. Makoto is also alive. So that's good. Asahi once again was adorable. She looked so frightened from time to time, but she managed to get herself and Yuki out of Tokyo. Hope they can live in peace from now on.
It'll be interesting to see what'll happen from now on in this show.

Am I the only one who noticed how well directed was Jin's visit to Tsuki's doctor (and the episode as a whole) ? The newborn baby cryin as they show us the doctor dead. That's exactly what this ep was about ! Death and birth: as Sawa, Asahi and probably Jin decide to leave their old selves.

Also, is it me or did I overthink it ? I think that baby that was born in the clinic may be a sign that Elena is alive and had the baby.

Another floundering episode, although when it begins by going "So, I said this drug kills you, but it's actually a magic potion that only kills you for a few hours and then brings you back to life, no harm, no foul, now let me explain a master plan relying on perfect timing, coincidence, and complete contrivance which will all just happen to work out." And then it spent the next goddamned ten minutes of the episode explaining every single idiotic detail, pretending that everything working out was a stroke of genius planning and not just really, really bad writing. Not that I expect much better from this show after Snake Dude, but can we at least not probe every single stupid detail of your nonsense? Particularly when you're saying things like "the random 11 year old delivery boy will arrive precisely 12 minutes after the hour, and the timing here is the CRUX to making sure everything works." This is some Clock King level nonsense without being dressed like a timepiece or ranting at a billionaire dressed like a bat.

And yet, it still compares favorably to the second half of the episode, which spiraled into nonsense. Well, there were a couple parts about Makoto apparently going crazy and probably getting mindjacked by Snake Dude, but that quickly gave way to quite literally a bunch of random rich dudes in a shadowy room discussing the current geopolitical situation with a curtain. So Whose-His-Face goes out and murders a couple cops who were beating protestors right in front of them. Very covert. Truly hiding your true intents and whatnot.

Glad someone said it. Super convenient how everything worked flawlessly and they had the burial in such a short amount of time, no questions asked. I get that the plot needs to move along somehow but we can only suspend our disbelief so much.. The rest of the episode was quite mediocre as well. Show just keeps getting worse.

Appearing in imaginary flashback after being pronounced dead is rather big death flag unfortunately, if you can even use "death flag" when talking about "officially" dead people. Pity, I liked Elena too. And what happened to the Treasurer's kid she saved?

Tsukishiro actually wants Sawa to get away from the organization and live a normal life, it's good to know that Tsukishiro is not evil but I wonder if Asahi and Sawa will be able to get away, Jin most probably got the idea that Sawa's still alive because of the bird. He'll make his move anytime.

Looks like Tsukishiro got traumatized after that Janome incident. I hope he doesn't get caught because of the ruckus his traumatized self is causing. What were those pills? I hope he doesn't get more crazy after having those.

That imagination that Sawa had with three of them drinking and having a casual chat. I hope it could come true, sadly Elena won't be there but it would be nice if Sawa and Tsukishiro are able to get away from the organization and live their own way.

That conversation they had in that meeting, does the organization have the same motive as Janome, getting the blood sample of Sawa? It also seems like Jin too is bound by the organization and doesn't have any choice but to comply with them.

(English) Tsukishiro devised a scheme to get Sawa and Asahi to flee, without much explanation of the reasons, just to escape the Nue and go on living.
It seems that the leader of Japan wants to use the blue blood of the Yukimura clan to get better results in war conflicts. The entire country is in constant internal and international conflicts.

It was obvious Sawa wasn't going to just be killed off halfway through the series like that. Props to Asahi for being able to carry out the timed plan and reach Iwai with her. With all going on though, the Shogun's forces will eventually find them oor do something to bring Sawa back into the fight.

Luckily it seems that any further conflict won't have Sawa fighting alone. Just like the doctor was saying to him, Jin is showing signs of having enough of the Shogun's regime. Killing those soldiers instead of just walking on and also likely going along with Asahi. Makoto said he would kill Asahi iff he doubted her death, but after the part with the Shogun saying they needed Sawa...even if he believed her to be dead, they wouldn't just have her buried. With them after her blood, they'd have had the body taken straight to the Shogun's castle.

We saw Makoto had survived that assassination attempt in the car and is now on the run (I guess the plan and poison delivery was before the car). What I don't get is why she already ignored/forgot what the doctor said about the pain killers. He said they were hallucinogens and to not go crazy, and what does she do?...instantly gulps 4 down at once with instant regret :P
