THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

A lot of focus on Iris this episode. Not a big fan of her but she's still an important character.

Damn right the 5th division needs to be investigated into. They gave me the creeps and honestly, they're probably the most controversial division in the show.

The captain of the fifth, princess Hibana is kinda creepy. It also looks like princess Hibana was a sister like Iris and that they were very close.

Okay, we got a little more mystery this episode. Also, I was not antecipating that they would fight 5th this soon. The battle scenes were pretty nice. I just hope they don't overcreate other mysteries and stuff. Also, 5th seems pretty overrated tho. They were thrashed.

They aren’t a fighting unit , they’re scientist so I would expect them to get thrashed except hibana

Hibana was definitely a sister too and she knows the human combustion stuff going on and how fire mutants works it seems to the point they can augment/improve their firepower

its disappointing that the 5th battalion looks weak though like they are defeated so easily by our heroes

I was expecting a showdown with the 5th but that escalated quickly. Hibana seems to be the only big threat though. All the others were pushovers.

I actually see no reason why 8th should raid 5th division. There must be many other good ways to get the data from that division, they're shady but they're not the villain. Though the show give them the reason by having sister disappear at night.
Also since devil and knight sleeping in the same room how do they keep their private activity without being seen by roommate?

Shinra's sure is surprisingly perceptive. Though its good that he understands that a fire soldier's duty is not just facing internals but also involves helping others with their problems. Thats some training that the captain was doing there lol. The power to weaken a bullets force sure is a curious power. Princess Hibana seems more like a scientist than a fire soldier. One that really enjoys her work it seems. To think that Hibana was actually someone that Iris knew from the order. Shinra's response as he broke into the 5th was just hillarious. But man Takehisa's display of his ability sure was impressive. Though the 5th have the numbers the 8th skilled fighters more than make up the difference. A strong ep that while doing well in showing the beginning of the campaign to discover the truth of the fire force also did well to expand upon Iris's background. After their last display its high time the 5th get the punishment that they so deserve.

I still don’t understand the hype behind this series. It’s mediocre as hell other than the animation is really good. Horrible soundtrack to go with the series.

Even the rating of MAL makes no sense to me. 8? Bruh lol

Interesting that Hibana was a sister before, I wonder why she went down the path she did.

Arthur is just hilarious, I can't get enough of his chuuni style responses and his knightly stuff.
While I don't like that Hibana hurt Iris, you gotta admit that Hibana knew all the right pieces of clothing to burn off. XD

Animation is glorious as ever. Fight sequences are just eye candy and I mean that in a good way.
Hinawa just destroying everyone that comes his way, the bubble gum dude got wrecked.

Arthur using his sword in the wrong hand and then wondering why he couldn't summon any power and eventually just one shotting that infernal was glorious.
That sheathe animation was so so good.

some of the cuts during that Arthur fight felt... strange to say the least, reminded me of some of my Youtube jump cuts and it didn't look right, Iris best girl, she's stunning

wonder what she and her sister's backstory is, probably wasn't a good idea to walk into enemy territory like that alone...

I'm still conflicted over this series.
Do I enjoy it? Yes, a fair amount in fact.
The animation is stunning and the plot is relatively interesting.

There's just some odd choices thrown in that really holds it back. However, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what.
Right now the show is hovering around a 7.5 for me. So if I rounded up it'd be an 8 I guess.

Anyways, the action was entertaining, as per usual, even with some odd cuts in scenes. The humor was fairly good too. I don't like the creepy science lady of the 5th though. Way too over-the-top for me.

Well, like most others here, the fight b/w baka-Arthur and the half-infernal was really a mixture of feelings and a similar notion regarding the episode as a whole too.

Pretty cool how Arthur took care of it so effortlessly after figuring out the issue, plus that glorious bit of the slash from an animation point of view, but it was dragged on for too long in my opinion. Damn, the lieutenant is bloody strong and crafty though and Maki has yet to 'evolve' lol. Now that I think about it, Arthur survived a close call there just earlier.

Extremely disappointed with the lack of fight from the 5th though, I have to seriously question Capt. Hibana's motive of dragging the 8th here despite having quite frankly no one other than her who could even come close to posing a threat. Anyway, the fact that Capt. Obi is not around here yet kind of gives me the feeling that he'll come out with a banger of an introduction lol, can't wait to see how that goes!

On another note, Shinra sharing a moment of thought for Iris there at the begininng was really nice to see.

Meanwhile, Iris's attempt of stopping Capt. Hibana has totally flopped, got to admire her courage for coming this far though. Capt. Hibana clearly cares for her, despite not explicitly showing that yet, considering how she let go hold of the hold and then went on to giving her costume. Quite the reveal about the sisters in this industry though, I wonder just how bad that's like in the other squads.

Shinra better be careful now...

Plot-wise there was also a lot going. I want to find out more about the drug and shit is going down between the 8th and the 5th. Mega hyped for next episode.

So uh is blood going to be completely censored the whole anime or what? Even putting a bullet through someone's skull at point blank range apparently doesn't do anything

I'm not even sure that has anything to do with the KyoAni incident since there wasn't really any gun violence involved there

Maybe it was because the shots were nonlethal like it was with Shinra?? At least that's what I presume anyways

I love seeing how creative stories get within the constraints of their world; which, in this case, is very focused on the properties of fire... I mean, hinawa, with the bullets - the sparks are flames, and so this is how it'll go. I also like how they allowed better versatility by splitting generations (my hopes weren't too high knowing that the one behind this had also created soul eater).

Wow...this episode was REALLY bad.

Let's go down a list of all the fuck ups.

-The 5th is made to look like jobbers.
-Iris was going to get some character development and look into her a backstory, but the show is like, "Naw babygirl we need you to be a plot device."
-Some of the joeks in this episode were fucking stupid.
-The 5th three angels are cool despite being dress like BDSM models.(Okay this isn't relaly a fuck up.).
-Hibana is pretty cool even if she is a cartoon villian.(Okay this isn't fuck up either.).
-Shinra just knows where the documents are.
-It's really bad and very illogical to just storm another base. This could reflect bad on the 8th.
-Arthur forgetting he is right handed and left handed was fucking stupid.
-They made it obvious what the 5th were doing without much mystery.

At least episode 4 was mildly entraining. It was still bad but it had something. This episode jsut outright suck.

okey i didnt read the manga but here it goes
-the 5 is a science division so they are weaker but they where arrogant thinking that if they outnumber them they can win
-so how about we wait a little bit for more episodes
-comedy is subjective
-look at this industrial complex oh look at this big mansion hmmmmm
-8th was made specifically to investigate other divisions so i think they will be fine also hibana was going to use the nun to lure them in anyway

Are they though? They don't look like it.

I give you that on waiting for more eps.

Comedy is subjective but the joeks here were very childish.

They make it very obvious.

Well I don't think that is fully true as they have gotten in trouble in the past for going agaisnt orders.

they are not mutally exlusive thing, if you paied attention even a little you would see that the 5th division leader was actually with iris
it would make complete sense for her to get caputred and THEN explore her backstory and develop her character from there...

then again
reiwa weebs will unironically tell u they want a remake or sequel but when they get it ,its suddenly souless and a cashgrab cause they dont like the thing anymore and cant fathom they grew out of it and must mean the show somehow became bad

Pretty disappointed by this ep tbh. When i saw Iris had some connection to Hibana i thought "please don't go to her alone without telling anyone and cause trouble for the 8th" and that's exactly what she did. idk its such a cliche like i cant really put my finger on why it was so predictable lol

I thought Hibana looked pretty cool in the last ep but her craziness was way over done imo just seemed kinda forced and not scary/creepy.

As others have said the pacing is kinda weird in this show there was no buildup really it was just "let's go fight the 5th". Also the Arthur fight pissed me off the whole wrong hand shit like come on, really? Some of the cuts were weird too. Obvs the animation is great and i actually like the music so maybe itll pick up as it goes on.

I level-set my expectations for the show before watching the episode, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was full of funny moments while progressing the plot and teasing more info yet to be revealed.

Something happened to Princess Hibana that turned her from a close friend of Iris to someone who uses Iris as bait to lure in and destroy the 8th and openly refers to herself as a devil. I'll be interested to see more of the story from the sister's and former sister's pasts.

Arthur is hilariously baka, forgetting that he's right-handed. Oh and hey, where was Obi for the entire fight? I guess we'll find out next week.

Sister Iris definitely is hiding something...not just judging on the ED though...

Princess Hibana's masochistic nature felt forced, ain't that silly to predict and see-through. However, it is their relationship that shuns me to death.

Nonetheless, Shinra has brought Company 8 into Company 5's HQ to settle the drought. As per usual, the Lieutenant doesn't let loose. For the high-flyers of Company 5 vs. Company 8, Arthur truly sparks like a true knight and he turned a Zenitsu in that moment. Lieutenant and Maki as per their usual stances, but it's clear that the deal with Company 5 must be dealt with due to their controversial experimentations.

Power vs. Might. That's just Episode 5 in a nutshell.
David Production (or rather Shaft)'s value still holding strong. Really wondering what is the connection between the Sisters, not just Shinra and Co. saving her and fishing out the true connection.

Well the battle between the fifth squadron and the eighth squadron begins, Iris on her side wants to make who was her friend and companion nun to reconsider her actions, but is already clear in the previous episode that Princess Hibana is someone arrogant and mentally unstable.

The episode begins with Iris remembering her past while she purifies her body in the courtyard of the station, it was already proven that she and Hibana were very close and the infernal event in the convent separated them, although more information is still needed, I hope Hibana completes the story of hell in the convent.
I liked the attitude Shinra took, he noticed immediately that something strange was going through Iris's mind, although he let it go through the nun's words.

It made me laugh a lot about how Maki and Iris quickly pulled away when Hinawa was aiming at Shinra with his gun, apparently they already had the misfortune of suffering this guy's discipline, even Captain Obi looked worried.

The scene in which Hibana tortures the infernal made it clear that she is a sadistic and crazy woman, will have something to do with her cruel personality with what happened in the convent ?, even her own members of her squad fear her, Hibana begins to disturb me.

I still can't believe that Arthur keeps telling Ogre to Maki, this boy wants to die at the hands of Maki, he really starts to worry me how stupid he can be, I guess there must be some reason?

I felt very sad for poor Iris when she went to talk to Hibana, apparently Hibana hates her past as a nun, the cruel way in which Hibana burned Iris's clothes, insulted her and mistreated her and that part in which Hibana calls herself Demon was scary. At least Hibana had enough mercy to cover Iris with her jacket, something that surprised me a bit.

The arrival of the eighth squad was as if a hurricane arrived, Hinawa was awesome, he had no mercy with any member of the fifth squad that crossed his path, Maki on his side seems not to be very calm about this fight, although she gave a good blow to the bubblegum idiot the previous episode and speaking of that same idiot, his pyrokinesis is quite destructive, but that was no problem for Hinawa who made him suffer with his incredible ability to control the direction of the bullets.

Being honest, this episode was incredibly dynamic and quite instructive and gave us more information about the other members of the squad, Iris was the main one, but for example it was revealed that Maki belonged to the army or Hinawa's pyrokinesis was also revealed, which is the ability to control the fire that triggers weapons and he can control the direction of the bullets, something that I personally found incredible and goes perfectly with the ruthless personality of Hinawa.
I am intrigued to know what Hibana will have discovered in her investigation, I hope that the members of the eighth squad will find it.

Yeah... not really a fan of the fanservice and the way it has been used in this series so far. Shinra grabbing Tamaki's boob was bearable (to some extent) but Hibana burning Iris's clothes in what was supposed to be a tense scene, mixed with her over-the-top outburst ended up making the whole sequence look simply hilarious and with no impact at all.

Regarding Hibana, sorry but her character is so exaggerated I can't take her seriously anymore. She might have the saddest of backstories yet I wouldn't care in the slightest whether she lives, she dies or the reason why she developed such masochist tendencies.

And since it seems I still have things to say, I don't know the purpose of it but seeing Arthur using his sword with the wrong hand and wondering why he couldn't use his powers was really stupid.
That aside, I still think he might become an interesting character but so far, he has been really annoying with his antics and this "knight" phase of his.

Anyways, as a whole, I found this episode to be rather weak. Leaving aside what I have pointed out, the transition between scenes felt abrupt for the most part and Hibana, being as she is, made her scenes look really forced in the end.
Honestly, the only good point about this episode was the animation but other than that, the rest was mediocre at best.

One thing I failed to understand is whyyyyyyyy there was a problem with Arthur, notably why he held his sword with the wrong hand. Either it is a personality disorder (which would also justify his idiotic moments of humour which are just frankly cringe either way), or he got startled because sister got "stolen"? Was it the Infernal's new appearance that threw him off the balance? Slightly evades my fathoming.

I still don’t understand the hype behind this series. It’s mediocre as hell other than the animation is really good. Horrible soundtrack to go with the series.

Even the rating of MAL makes no sense to me. 8? Bruh lol

People like flash over substance these days.

Which is exactly why this series is preferred to a generic "matter over mind".

Yeah... not really a fan of the fanservice and the way it has been used in this series so far.

Sorry to burst it up but there was no "fan-service" as per definition in this episode. It was all story-dictated. And don't make me explain it please because I will feel like an idiot having to explain common symbolism. BECAUSE THIS IS 2019 AND SOMEONE STILL NEEDS EXPLAINING OF COMMON SYMBOLISM??

My man Arthur needs to relax with the Ogre/Gorilla comments towards Maki. My girl is beautiful!
Though it seems now the show is going down the Maki x Arthur route and Shinra x Iris route. We'll see though.

Fun episode overall though. Music still continues to be amazing.

That's exactly where this series is going. The right way.

Looks like Iris and Hibana used to be very close to each other, what happened tho? Hibana also turned into a sadist lmao. 5th is no match for the 8th
