I have yet to see a review of it that encapsulates how disgusting that part of the manga is, while also recognizing what it could've been.
I do know that the LN doesn't have those problems, I've read some chapters of it and a lot of positive comments.
How are you doing?
Tltr: I'm too lazy to argue. Most people link how they feel about something to define them, and get defensive. And tbf, on an anime website it's mostly teens.
In the case of Maison Ikkoku, I've always felt it's something that'd piss you off or make you care, for much the same reason, so your review was especially intriguing given we both cite the same character flaws. Takahashi is good at investing real female traits into her heroines: namely, hypocrisy and jealous bitchiness. Would a real woman pick Godai over Mitaka without hesitation or be indecisive; I find human failings like that in characters interesting. Others might get angry that characters are acting in unlikable ways. I certainly got angry at the MI characters. It all depends on what you want and expect.
Anyways, that's enough faux-philosophy on anime/manga ratings. I enjoy reading your reviews as they get to the point and have enough emotion to be entertained. Your Scummy Wishes review was interesting to me, kinda like your MI one: you ended saying 1/10 enjoyment because there was no attempt at making anyone happy; indulging itself in unhappiness. I was drawn to it because it lived up to its name. The sociopath teacher getting married/saved by nice gai was bullshit, tho.
I don't use MAL much anymore, so I probably won't respond if you do. Twas nice encountered someone that can discuss things.
