Mm, I definitely think the youkai of this series is getting more and more freaky looking each episode especially this one:

Hearing the voice of and seeing Hakumen no Mono really got me hyped for this arc. The info dump is important about Hakumen no Mono as he is a major antagonist of the overall story and holy shit, that ending...

I am a huge fan of flashbacks of this nature so when I saw that Ushio and Tora were getting this hands on history lesson I was hyped

Seeing the two pivotal time periods was pretty cool and I really liked seeing the characters in them and particularly Jie Mei's family but damn this episode got real so fast and ended so quickly TwT

Hakumen no Mono is one scary and powerful demon holy shit O_O I was almost shaking in my pants after watching him effortlessly slaughter everyone and man I felt so so sad to see the parents die.....And Hakumen's voice is so freaking menacing too....I could just feel the despair in this episode man

She is blending in Ezio (or Agent 47) style...
Ushio literally shat his pants when he saw the true self of Hakumen no Mono...
And the plot thickens...Again.

This episode was over in an instant lol.
will we see a time travel paradox? it's more than a flashback since kemono no yari disappeared. Not sure if Jie Mei knew Ushio the first time she appeared in the series.. but it could possibly be.. or that monster just returns them to their time.

gotta love answers

Pretty cool to see Ushio and Tora going back to the point in history when the Beast Spear was created. Hakumen looked super menacing, and I'd be absolutely scared shitless if I was in Ushio's position at the very end. To even think about charging toward HnM takes big balls.

Finally get to see Hakumen no Mono in action and he live up to the hype. Is Mayuko incarnation of Jie Mei?

Also, is Hakumen no Mono inspire from Daji story? Fox disguise as concubine trying to make the king destroy the country.

Awesome episode. Hakumen no Mono's rampage was done brilliantly.

But what buffles me is that Hakumen no Mono's seiyuu is still uncredited, especially since she is doing such an amazing job. Why? Although seeing Japanese twitter making guesses is pretty fun. Most popular guesses are Megumi Hayashibara and Mayumi Tanaka so far.

This anime is really amazing. I love the Hakumen no Mono, it is really scary (even it human form is creepy) and looks very powerful. Love the final scene when it reveal itself and start to kill people, making Ushio shit in his pants.

At the beginning I really think that the time travel youkai would be evil. It seems like is not the case. I like Jie Mei and her family. Looks like the death of her parents will be the reason of why Giryou is so crazy in the present.

Btw, I don't know what gender the Hakumen no Mono is, as it has a female form and use a female appearence to disguise itself between humans, but anyone has refered to it as a female in the series. I will also know who is it seiyuu. It does a really brilliant work portraying it voice.

I wonder if the woman's hair mixed in with the metal is the reason that Ushio's hair lengthens when he uses the spear.

That ending scene was intense. Hakumen no Mono was so scary. I can see why he's so feared.

It's not just me right, Tokisaka (time travel youkai) is 100% voiced by Monkey D. Luffy's seiyuu?

Also great episode
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. Isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou

Such a freaking great episode. They subtly censored it before here and there, in terms of the blood and gore when it came to human deaths, but they went all out this time, Quentin Tarantino style (minus his foot fetish).

I wasn't expecting Ushio and Tora to literally time-travel back 2000 years into the past, in tangible form no less, as opposed to simply seeing the what happened in the past as vision. I'm hoping he does something significant to affect the past (for the better), even if it creates a time paradox. But he still couldn't save the mother. I guess it couldn't be helped though, because it looked she didn't want to be saved or even want to live anymore; not after seeing her husband dying a gruesome death in front of her, and losing hope after all the other swordsmiths' blades broke as they were all being killed in a bloodbath.

It's also not surprising to see Ushio frozen in fear despite having faced off literally countless fearsome Yokai. I liked how he picked up a regular spear. I guess he's simply used to it over handling swords. But without the Beast spear giving him the drive to go partially into beast-mode, and finally seeing the ultimate big bad for the first time, he froze for good reason. If all the yokai Ushio's faced before were considered as mosquitoes, Hakumen no Mono would be the demon king Beelzebub in regards to the overwhelming power and malevolence.

That's a very good point. I think it's perfectly plausible. Though I'm not sure how human hair mixed into metal would affect it...from the looks of the Beast Spear, I think it's Damascus steel. Now I really wish Man at Arms would do an episode and make the Beast Spear.

That was more gruesome than I expected. Wow.

Normally when they talk so much about how scary someone/something is, once it shows up, it's not quite as impactful as one expected. Not this time. Hakumen no Mono was absolutely terrifying. Violent, evil and vicious. Great episode.

This episode was crazy good. I'm definitely already finding this arc very interesting, going back to the time when Jie Mei was younger and before the Beast Spear was made. Hakumen no Mono sure is creepy and menacing. Jie Mei's father died and caused his wife to stand there in shock while her upper body was completely gone. Gotta be one of the better episodes of this series yet. Damn!

The hair is "in" the metal, but my impression is that the hair is incorporated using some form of dark arts, so it may not have been physically in the sword.

Obviously the death of Giryou's parents are what fill him with enough rage and hate to craft the Beast Spear after the failure of the sword they made. Perhaps it was Ushio standing against Hakumen with an ordinary spear that inspired him to make it that way instead of a second sword...

Agreed. I didn't read the manga, and judging by how the anime handled the battles thus far, I was kinda expecting they would keep the lighter tone until the end. But those last 2 minutes and Hakumen no Mono's bloodbath left me speechless. "Violent, evil and vicious", that's the way you portray the story's strongest foe, and they did it perfectly.
