Fantastic series of chapters. Caesar vs. Wham is a short fight but it has some brilliant strategies & it's ending provides what is still probably the most emotionally charged moment in JoJo, at least from the three & a half parts I've read. That moment for me, is of course the contents of this chapter, my favorite moment being Joseph realizing about Lisa Lisa's cigarette (and letting her know too). Not as strong as in the anime adaption but still a touching moment. Another thing I love (though not about this chapter) was Wham respecting Caesar to the point that he left the antidote ring for Joseph. Really great moment, it's no surprise that most fans consider Wham the best villain of part 2 (some seem to consider him the only good villain in part 2, I disagree).

Caesar forever in our heart! a sad moment, but it's nice to see the characters' progress especially Jojo's.

Joseph needs to make Caesar's sacrifice count.

They're forced to come to terms with the reality that Caesar's actually gone. Lisa Lisa tried to contain herself so Joseph could do the same to not get them caught unaware but they couldn't handle it. He's such a great guy and his dead body is just lying there, squashed by that cross-shaped rock that became his makeshift memorial...

This chapter made me way more emotional for Caesar's death than when it happened. Seeing Joseph and Lisa Lisa deal with the reality of it was tougher than I expected.

And I officially bawled my eyes out to Jojo. I got watery eyes before, maybe I shed tears, but this grieving chapter was one of my favorites in the series emotionally speaking. The build up of them realizing Caesar was gone was awesome with the wreckage of the Holy Sandstorm and then the reaction to seeing the crimson bubble float near them, Lisa Lisa’s visible nervousness, and then that line. The line that Joseph was too scared to call for Caesar because he didn’t want to hear a deep silence in response. He wanted to believe Caesar avoided being hit, but the bubble said it all. It was some perfect build up and a beautifully sad line from Joseph.

Then, we have the typical situation in these scenarios. The trope that the person who hurts the most from the loss of the fallen happens to be the one that needs to be the strongest. They hold themselves together for their peers and their mission, and their peers who don’t understand this end up thinking the sensei figure is cold and heartless. Only when they confront them does someone else have to tell them the truth of the matter. Here that did not happen, instead it had one of my favorite sequences of Jojo panels ever. Joseph felt so angry he wanted to hit her but he realized how hurt she was too, he didn’t fall for the way this trope normally goes out, instead he recognized the external sign of her emotions. The normally calm and collected Lisa Lisa had her cigarette upside down, wow. I wasn’t a huge fan of Lisa Lisa, I found her charming, I liked her schtick, but she didn’t feel that great to me. She was a stern, cold, dutiful but caring teacher when all was said and done. Her little smiles when her students made her proud were endearing and I love her design to death. But I didn’t think she went much past that. Moments like her suggesting she’d kill her assistant Suzie Q added to her, but this moment was the one that made her grow for my personal investment. It felt so human and so strong of her.

That wasn’t all though. After Lisa Lisa and Joseph finally pull themselves together, the blood of Caesar starts draining from the rock that crushed him. Lisa Lisa breaks into tears of pain and sadness and Joseph screams. Being in enemy territory and their mission all of a sudden didn’t matter, no one could control themselves. And when Joseph finally called Caesar’s name his fears were realized, what responded was nothing but a deep silence. He was really dead.

This was phenomenal stuff. I think when dealing with death in fiction you can separate it into “their last stand”, “the immediate reaction”, and “the long lasting effects the death has on the series”. The poetic nature and the immensely memorable moments and lines and the visceral emotional response and chipping down of mental strength certainly make this a prime example of how to to the immediate reaction perfectly.

Seeing their reactions and the blood of Caesar under the stone made me more sad than the previous chapter.

Brilliant fight with very clever tactic coming from both sides, proving the skills of both Caesar and Wham. Sadly, Caesar did not survive this fight. He died like a hero, or should I say: like a true Zeppeli. Seeing Joseph's and Lisa Lisa's reactions added a lot of more dramatist to that already dramatic situation.

i loved this chapter, but it was quite sad, especially when lisa and joseph saw caesar's blood. i'm excited to read the last few chapters though since i feel that joseph won't let caesar's sacrifice go to waste.

The way they steel themselves, only to breakdown once the last sight of Caesar's blood pushes them over the edge. Goddamn, that's well done.
