Interesting, but confusing. The art, animation, and characters are nice, and I liked the romance+sci-fi combo, but there's an incredible amount of dialogue, and yet the story was not that clear.
Anyway, it was pretty good, maybe I'll watch the anime series too.

That was pretty good, watching the series might clear up some things.

Well i like her parents a lot, and it seems Lafiel got her behavior mannerisms from her dad, and a strong will from her mom.

Such charming characters, I loved it.

“Read as little as possible of critical or aesthetic works. They are either products of a close-minded spirit, petrified and devoid of meaning in their lifeless hardening, or clever verbal games [...]. Works of art are of an infinite solitude; nothing is worse than criticism for approaching them. Only love can grasp them, keep them, be just toward them. Always give precedence to your own feeling against these analyses, these reviews, these introductions. [...] You must let every impression, every seed of feeling, ripen within you, in the dark, in the inexpressible, in the unconscious, those regions closed to understanding. Wait with humility and patience for the hour of the birth of a new clarity. Art demands of its faithful followers as much as of its creators.”
— RAINER-MARIA Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet (letter dated April 23, 1903).

There are some parts that I didn't understand but the OVA was good overall; I like the characters.

This aired after the second season, Banner of the Stars, and before the third season, Banner of the Stars II. As such I'm watching this after having seen both the first and second season-- if you have decided not to watch in proper order, read this post at your own discretion.

In the context of the setting, it was nice to see the precursors to the Abh. It's too bad that the ones on this ship who tried to return to Earth didn't end up surviving, but the events of this episode did give some closure to that crew. It also highlights just how much the world of this setting has changed since the days of Earth.

I think it's pretty easy to see Lafiel's personality influences here. She has the idiosyncrasies of her father in that she is slow to express affection (e.g. his dislike of the mushy "precious" prefix to his name) and leans more toward the matter-of-fact side of discourse. However, she got the common sense from her mother, as she finds many of the same notions of his just as silly (e.g. a birth secret giving richer character). I would also say some of the bigheartedness comes more from her mother as well, but it's portrayed more subtly due to her father's mannerisms.

The meaning of Lafiel was interesting too, "gem of life", more or less.

The ending tying into the first meeting that started everything whilst having Lafiel's parents speak about her so lovingly was a very nice final touch, everything considered.

It was a very good special.

Interesting seeing Lafiel's parents' interactions.

^ I always watch in date-released order ^
So I've already seen the first 2 seasons. This leads into where the first season starts.

I'm glad this Special exist. It mainly because I'm pretty salty that Captain Lexshue got little screentime in Crest of the Stars. I really love her (gorgeous, charming, charismatic, etc.) XD

And good to know more about her relationship with Lafiel's father and how both of their personalities shaped Lafiel.

it would have been a really nice archeological finding if they had managed to bring back the ship with all the mummies and data, it could have been turned in a museum and space coffee

Thanks for clarifying this watch order. I thought it was just to be watched after the first season...no wonder it was a little incomprehensible to me.

I look forward to watching the second season.

A decent episode. I guess this was one of the colony ships that didn't make it.
I was wondering if Plakia would have joked about a cat and that would have been the source of that story, but I guess not.

I'm a bit confused about why the ship suddenly started moving after they boarded it.
There shouldn't be anyone else alive in it, and while they messed around, I don't think they did anything meaningful that should have started it.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
