It's ok Sunraku. Losing to the #1 player isn't a shame, at least it's not against some bum.

As expected, he goes out his ways to find a way to win. This is the most Sunraku thing I've seen from him because honestly, he's always trying to prove himself.

The rust fight was pretty dope but anyone else think this feels like filler? I’m not saying it’s not in the web novel but it just feels like such a radical departure from where we were just at the start of last ep lol. Seeing the Nephilim Hollow world has been cool and rust seems like a dope character. I get why Sunraku rage quit after he couldn’t equip his rewards but I’m starting to miss SLF

Great second episode!
The classic formula for shows like Nephilim Hollow is that you introduce the world in the first episode and the rival in the second.
Even with the structure being simple, the execution was incredible! The 3D looks really good, and the storyboards make nice use of it.
This game has an interesting mechanic! It's a bit like Pokémon, in the sense that you capture a Nephilim to use, but that's only the base!
You can use parts you've collected to customize your Nephilim, which are probably only compatible with some types of Nephilim etc.
I can see the Attack on Titan influence as well with the rampaging titans and the importance of their napes!
Also I love how the MC never paints his Nephilim...
Overall, I'm a fun of this new anime!

Really good fight but Rust had the experience.
I like how Tama was really happy to help out Sunraku.
That 2nd fight is pretty awesome as well, great hit but I don't think it's over yet.

I dont care what people think when it comes to this genre (VR games anime), its the best one ive seen yet nothing comes even close, Sunraku is like me hopping from game to game when the feels in one game dont feel right for a bit of refreshing feels, My bets are these are future guild members? feel like thats right to assume.

As an avid sci-fi, Gundam, and mecha in general fan I'm very entertained by this arc that most people seem to be not enjoying. Idk why I've seen people say this is filler. Yes Sunraku is away from the main game and the namesake of the whole show. However its not like this is the first time we've seen him play other games, plus his reasoning of getting dealt a bad hand in SLF so he's playing something else to feel better makes perfect sense. Anyone who plays a lot of games knows that feeling of just needing some change of pace. This episode showing the duel between Sunraku and the top player in this game Rust was awesome! Sunraku being rusty himself after not playing this game for months and that being the cause of his loss makes sense. Rust has been top of the leader boards for a long time so he can't just jump back in a beat her. Seeing more of this sci-fi dystopian world and how it operates. I like how this show fleshes out the other games besides SLF. Sunraku explaining how to build a new Nephilim was cool. Capturing a certain one then customizing and naming it. Sunraku going for that pincher crab look with his obscure parts. Rust seemed to have a bead on him even after he used that camouflage but it looks like Sunraku might've pulled out the win in the rematch!

I really wish they'd just cut out this filler, leave the anime a few episodes shorter and use that time to polish the main story episodes and make them even better. Or use that time to make 1 or 2 additional episodes of main story.

@kookool17 Even if it's part of the source material, it still feels like stereotypical garbage shounen filler, and it seems many watchers agree. If it feels like filler, it should've been axed and the work used to polish other parts. If this arc is anything like in the first season, it has absolutely no impact whatsoever on the main story anyway and would only help the show if it was cut out completely.

I agree it's the worst part of the manga/anime, but there are new characters introduced that will be useful later in the story. Also I noticed that there is some additionnal content in this episode looking at the manga (for exemple, the first fight Sunraku vs Rust is like only 4 pages in the manga and shouldnt have lasted more than 30 seconds), which is a shame.

I'll just say, that I don't find the camouflage not working with fire and smoke a major defect, but a perfect choice, recreation and a good mechanic.
Camouflage working as a jack of all trades is the lazy ways, honestly this sub-game is looking even more god-tier than shangri-la to me right now, the only difference in both being that shangri-la is clearly one designed as a mainstream enterntaiment and this one clearly as one of those niche games that has a community that rarely reach 10k players but each of them is 100% dedicated to it and knows every crane and aspect both in and out the game about it.

Wow this episode wasn't just action packed it was overflowing with so much amazing mecha action that they couldn't fit it all into just this episode. I love seeing that there's other games in this world too. like duh it's obvious, and we already saw a lot of it last season. well yeah absolutely but it's just a joy to see and to get a glimpse of the community in different games. needless to say, the animation was incredible. Seriously this season has been so much fun, and excitement, and AAAAAAAAAAAA. Go! Fiddler Crab!!!!!!!!!

so let me get this straight, to get the full party for Shangri-la, MC collects players from other games, where he defeated them or played with? So we have to learn about those games and the story behind them for us to understand where these players come from and what history they have with MC? Feels a bit too much detail for what it gives.

Not. The. Point. Unless you think this show is about the realistic portrayal of gamers (which could be one perspective, I guess, so, sure). There is something in this story that one could kinda call "main story". And this episode deviated heavily from that.

Fillers don't need to be beaches mountains and tits (although I'd prefer the latter all day everyday over a shounen pissing contest, but that is just a matter of taste (and I'm not being snarky here)).

I think you’re right, and I agree. Could have been a quick background info moment when he is sad in SLF and mentions out loud the Nephilim game, someone overhears him say that, idk. Make it at least one episode shorter of playing this other game lol.

I’m assuming Rust is the SLF ninja hand-signing player with a samurai Vorpal Bunny shown in the OP, which I am excited to see

@Dickegrobe Shangri La is based on that and he will play other games that will be in that style, because there will be several of them that will take an entire season, it's even a slice of life romantic comedy lmao and it will even show school life

Here's Rust. She's the best in this 1v1 fighter game.
Here's Mold. He's feeding Rust all relevant info about her opponents, so it's basically a 2v1 fight.
WTF was the author thinking?

Another great episode of SLF—I mean Nephilim Hollow.

Sunraku perfectly embodies what it means to be a pro player. The fact that he could somewhat keep up with Rust, the top-ranked player, even though she had the help of her operator, while being "rusty" himself after three months away, is impressive. On top of that, he managed to build a Nephilim in record time to counter Rust.

The lore of this other game could easily stand alone as its own anime, but unfortunately.

ugh.... I'm annoyed...a WHOLE other episode dedicated to another game.. and people saying "this is how a real gamer is, they play multiple games" this show is not about the lives and habits of gamers... it's about this game he discovered called Shangri-la frontier.. even IF the purpose is to introduce you to his other rivals, you don't need entire episodes to do it! that could've been explained in a flashback easily...a season only has so many episodes.. the fact that we've spent TWO so far on another game means less time from advancing the story in SLF and you're left feeling like u didn't get anywhere in the season and have to wait for the next season... that's what's frustrating...

The ironic part is the show starts off with him being addicted to playing "broken" games. But I agree the two episodes stops the momentum built in SLF. Nevermind he was told there is a way to remove the curse effect during that 3 clan metting, but I digress.

I get that even the showrunners are bored of SLF at this point, but spending two (and probably at least some of next ep, since they didn't finish this one) episodes on outside filler doesn't make it better.
