Veltol really needs to be careful about his job tbh. He probably overestimated his own abilities.

I like Takahashi and Veltol's character chemistry though. Seems she enjoys working with him and he brings the best out of her personality. Episode goes to show their cyberpunk city is never a safe haven.

What a treat! Thanks J.C. Staff. It’s always nice to see 2d mecha even if it’s a bit plain looking.

Gotta admit, maou2099 is really good mix of generic anime fantasy and best cyberpunk clichés. As of now it’s too early to tell where the story is going aside from the main antagonist, but I can only hope it won’t be too episodic in its story arcs.

"What a terrifying age we're in"
Yeah, if mortals could deal with the Immortal War 500 years ago, you can deal with this.

"I like pushing buttons."
Sometimes, so do I. Not talking about elevators, though.

"Man I always wanted to say that at least once."
Typically you do not get multiple opportunities for that.

I kind of figured her employer was dead, especially when she asked about that smell!
But how are they getting immortals that easily for the Furnace? That is what is puzzling me.

Veltol and Takahashi trying to find the client in the apartment complex and finding him dead then having to search the apartment for clues feels just like a questline from Deus Ex: Human Revolution in the Detroit apartments.

Holy shit this episode got DARK. I said last week I was still trying to get a read on the tone of this show and it looks like it’s gonna be dark with some comedic elements at this point. This episode kinda had cyberpunk 2077 vibes to it with taking on the mission just to find out the client is dead.

Using the immortals as literal firewood for the furnace is beyond messed up. All those round ups and hunts were just to gather proverbial wood.. yikes. Makes Marcus betrayal that much more dastardly. It’s one thing to turn on your Lord and colleagues for power, but to burn up their souls too.. what tf did they do to buddy lmao??

I’m really worried about Machina now, the reason she wasn’t on the list is maybe because they already got her?? Please be ok 😭 this has been such a pleasant surprise

Ok so they're using immortals as fire wood basically? Kinda dumb as obviously you'll run out and probably pretty quickly depending on how many immortals there are. I doubt there's too many immortals out there. Hopefully they got a plan for after they've run out of people to burn.

The mecha fight was pretty cool. Seeing 2d mecha is always good.

The sound mixing this episode was not great, like for example during the fight scenes i didnt even notice that there was music playing until the fight had already ended, ig it must have just been the SFX drowning it out

grip your hilt tighter in your moment of victory

That reminds me of "the seeds of the empires downfall are sown in its moments of greatest triumph" i really hope that doesnt refer to A.I... anyway the mech fight scene was extremly well done.

Takahashi gets better in every scene she is in.

1. It seems highly improbable that they could stop a skilled hacker from releasing information on the net. They might kill her after, sure, but stopping the publication itself seems impossible if their net is even remotely similar to our own (which it appears to be styled on). Whether or not people would believe it...that might be different, but that's not what the Vel said.
2. Not sure why Vel is surprised that they might have gotten Machina. He made no effort at all to hide his identity when fighting the IHMI mobile suit and Machina lives at the location he streams from. It wasn't his smartest move, frankly.
3. Pushing elevator buttons was gold.
4. When Vel started talking about his streaming handle and then about how the games he played were tougher than the Yakuza, I wondered if they were recording and planning on posting the fight to his subscribers. I feel like they would like it and it would get him more fans. Since IHMI seems likely to know it was him anyway, why NOT post it?
5. Less about this episode, but something which has been bothering me...there is no way that anyone who has been alive for 500 years should be poor (Machina and the Hero). Compound interest alone, even at a very low rate and on a ludicrously low principal such as merely a few dollars would result in you being a billionaire unless you actively worked to lose all your money...and you'd have to work HARD at it.

I'm not saying they should actually be billionaires, I'm saying that it's very easy to make money while doing nothing that would attract attention when you have centuries.

I will refrain from making comments about your brain. Cheers.

@amf85 The war have just been ended 80 years ago are you paying attention? Plus she's not the type of person who gonna make that much money. You can see from her personality. Does every immortal have that much opportunity to begin with? Even us that can live 80 years have minimal chance to be wealthy.

I like the tandem between Veltol and Takahashi.
JC staff cooked on action sequence thus giving me for my most anticipated anime.
Lore just expanded and it's interesting. How they're gonna deal with it? What happened to Machina?

@HeroforFun23 The war ended 500 years ago. The merging of the planets was ~66 years ago. Unsure what you think happened 80 years ago or why you think that they would have to start from zero money at that point, also unsure why you think, even if it were only 80 years, they would have no savings after that amount of time since larges portions of the populace retire and live off savings far before that. The "not the type of person" comment is opinion and I'm not even going to try and debate whatever that is supposed to mean.

Anyways, no idea why you feel the need to respond so aggressively ("brain off", "not paying attention" comments), but my point has been made and I don't intend to get into a never-ending argument over this, so probably not going to respond again. Good night.

I like the way Veltol introduced himself to the yakuzu.
He hade short work of them with a cool assist from Takahashi.
That was a cool fight between him and the magino gear, freaked out Takahashi as well.
The big news was the revealing of the reactor and how a plan is in place to use immortals to fuel it.
Someone or something was watching Machina in the previous episode, maybe her name wasn't on the list because she was already taken.

I have ADD, ADHD & AUTISM, but this won't stop me. Let's keep having fun together.

When they started talking about it I thought there would be some sort of people farm going on (like a certain other where children are kept as demon food) by keeping at least the weaker, easier to contain Immortals and breeding their children. It's also kinda weird that they let Veltol go so easily in episode 1 if they were running out of fuel, unless they wanted him to power up to his strongest at use his soul to maximum effect.

...So like... Nazi Germany but the Jews (immortals) actually produce something form getting burned alive... actually I think they used their ashes as fertilizer and soap or something... fuck

1m is definitely not enough, but he got 1m so quick I see potential for 100m EASY, especially with her help. Machina not on the list because she was known, she was likely picked up while this was going on. This seems like a good paced 12 episode anime, I love to see it.
4/5, extremely fucked, I think they started out the episode hinting at us that even if they disseminated this information, people wouldn't believe it. However, releasing could bring attention to Maou-sama. Maybe have a deepfake video with Marcus spilling the tea and putting wanted poster of MC, wanted poster would get millions of "faith" greatly empowering him.
Also Marcus likely let him go, so that he could farm more power. Machina only left alone because only one to get him back for more firewood.

Damn this episode is so peak, the animation is also so good even if it's being in the least popular side of this season, and from literally being reincarnated as a jobless person to being a livestreamer and being a crime scene investigator. This anime also got really dark really fast, poor employer he looks like a nice person to me... but veltol and takahashi literally being a dynamic duo this eps. i can't wait to see the next eps hope melchina alr.

Yeah this episode got dark which is how I thought it would be prior to the gag comedy from the previous episodes. I do recall someone spying on Machina so it looks like they kidnapped her while Veltol was occupied but hopefully she's still alive and being held captive to draw in Veltol.

Btw it's a shame what happened to Takahashi's client but at least she found valuable information into what's going on and why the list of immortals is important.

Kinda disappointed. It's not a bad execution, but I kept hoping we wouldn't have the demon king become powerful. We have plenty of shows like that. Focusing on his channel and awkwardness in the world is more interesting. To be fair, he didn't just evaporate the suit and there's still been some comedy, but I'm less optimistic than I was before.

So Veltol going to be OP from now on? It had better animation than I expected for this fight with the Magino Gear.

It's a shame that the anime didn't live up to your expectations but I'm glad that Veltol is staying true to himself and his goals instead of abandoning everything to become the best streamer.

This is one of the worst crime against humanity you can ever do. Even going one-two steps above Nazis. You need to do something very drastic to make a literal demon lord a good guy well the story achieved it.
Machina name not on the list probably means they already knew about her and got her. If they doesn't deserve enough punishment if something happens to her Veltol is nuking this city.

@HeroforFun23 5.)I think the merge of worlds which happened 6-7 decades ago must have led into a collapse of economic structure of both worlds so of course the savings will not work and then the immortal extermination started, which must have led the immortals to lay low otherwise they will be killed.
This must be the reason according to the logic of the events.
4.) Well, the fight included Yakuza and IHMI, and as the mecha person was surprised when Veltol regenerated he must have not known that he was an immortal. If they upload such a video it will garner attention in a negative way and maybe the client was not in favour of such things. There are many reasons to not post it.
2.) I don't think it was a expression of surprise, it was out of concern for her as her life was in danger. As for why he didn't put any effort to lay low, the answer is in his mentality as a demon lord. One can easily see that from his attitude. The other reason can be that he wants people to have faith in his existence as it is his source of power.
1.) The structure of internet hasn't been specified and we can consider that posts can be erased as per the story that is being shown.

Huh... so that traitor dude not only betrayed Maou

But he was the one that caused the immortal hunt and kill off his old friend and is planning to hunt down the other pillars...

So I guess that's one pillar confirmed DEAD.

Hopefully this isn't going to end up with all pillars dead and leaving just Machina and Maou at the very end... that would be sad.

(but there's still that very last scene in the ED... not sure if that's the pillars or somehow maou died and only Machina is left... cause it sure as hell can't just be a random stone coffin she's depressed over.)

That's a terrible conspiracy.

And like your traditional bad boss villain, Marcus has pretty much driven his "empire" to near-doom by eliminating most of the Immortals that kept it running. He should have known better, or maybe as an immortal himself he doesn't care since he'll very likely survive screwing over his own people.
