The dub for Z is known to be heavily edited so you best stick with the sub.

Dragon Ball Z Subbed is poison to the ears. You want to hear Granny Goku, Granny Gohan screaming for most of the series? You crazy if so

Both are great. I usually switch between the sub and dub for every new DB project.

I watched Dragon Ball with subs but switched to dub when watching Dragon Ball Z because Goku's voice just did not fit him there. Grown up Goku with same voice as kid Goku just sounded wrong so for me dub was a lot better.

All the dub moments I've seen aren't as funny as the original so I feel like the dub loses some of the humor. Also Son Goku's original voice isn't as terrible as people make it out to be.

A lot of people hate on the sub just because Goku is voiced by Masako Nozawa.
Like, dude, Goku is a goofball through and through, he doesn't change much from when he was a kid. You forget he married Chi-Chi because he didn't know what a marriage is. He's not a gigachad like, for example, Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken or the Jojos from Parts 1-3.

You should watch the dub if you don’t want to end up like MechKingKillbot, an embarrassed man. Either way, you have to watch it as if the translator were Toriyama.

I've always watched it dub, I tried getting into the sub but couldn't do it. Dragon Ball dubbed is the only version for me.

This is the one anime franchise I think I should watch in dub bcuz the JP voice for Goku is so hilariously awful.

The dub clears unless you can't speak English or hate having functioning ear drums.

Bro, tell you what... I'm from Brazil, and the Dragon Ball dub here is AMAZING! It's one of the best that we have, either Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z.
But since you probably watched the english dub, I can't say too much about it. I know that in my case, I rather watch the show sub than watching it in english dub.

When I watch something dub, it's basically because of nostalgia, because the original audio is most of the time the best way to experience, also because sometimes the dub version wasn't even finished.

So... I don't know, try it out the two of them and choose the one you liked the most.

Sub ofc, Goku's original voice actress is iconic, just like Luffy's.

If you've been watching subbed anime for a couple years, then you will understand 95% of spoken dialogue in jp DBZ without needing subs. It's a kids show. They use VERY simple language most of the time.

Dragon Ball Z's dub is not really a great representation of the story as it was heavily rewritten even in the uncut version. Character motivations and personalities are changed, and some lore tidbits are added and removed which can cause a massive amount of confusion between dub viewers and sub viewers. If you want to watch Dragon Ball Z dubbed, I would say Dragon Ball Z Kai is a better first experience for dubbed DBZ as the script was rewritten to better reflect the Japanese version of the show, leading to better consistency between dub and sub viewers, as well as between shows. Kai's voice acting for the English dub is also of much higher quality than the episodes that FUNimation did in house for the original Dragon Ball Z, as the actors had 10 years of experience in voice acting at that time, while they were still new to the industry in the FUNimation dub of the original Z.

TLDR: Dragon Ball Z specifically is not really great in dub if you are going for accuracy, but Dragon Ball Z Kai is a good replacement if you want to watch Z dubbed since it is far more accurate

@SignsOfSuicide just admit you're nostalgic for it. I know people complain about sub vs dub but by god Dragon Ball dub defenders are the worst. Like, why do you feel threatened by the Japanese version? Oh, "Nozawa LE BAD", it's not even a proper argument. I bet you have never watched pre-Z Dragon Ball.
Americans will never understand what Dragon Ball is (hint: it never was the fights).

Original is always the superior version, because it's coming straight from original creators, writers, people who works with them and thier culture.
Dub will be always a dumbed down, altered and just crappy imitation of original.
Dub = fake crap. Always.

@TheMechaManiac I'm not though, I sat down and watched it to completion when I was at the point, I actually cared about whether I watch something in the language I prefer (Nearly all of which in sub btw... even things I grew up with from Toonami.). You are projecting and generalizing massively right now that I feel threatened by an option I'll never have to make in my life, being which version, they choose to watch it in. They asked in an open forum which version they should watch, and I threw in my two cents. It really is not much more than that.

This is entirely a subjective topic so me not enjoying a VA's performance to the point of disdain is as valid a reason as any to recommend one less than the other and vice-versa. "Nozawa LE BAD" (Nothing against her outside of a specific performance I happen to not enjoy.) is kind of ironic considering your entire response comes off as Dragon Ball dub defenders LE BAD and/or non-falsifiable assumptions I can't physically prove to you. Also, of all anime in this world, Dragon Ball is the series you are going to die on the "YOu jUsT dON't gET iT!" hill for? I don't watch anything just for the fights, including battle shonen, and I still hold Dragon Ball in high regard outside of the impact it had and fights.

Thanks for telling me why I like Dragon Ball though, I guess I truly know why now thanks to you. Unreal...
