- After beating around the bush for the past few episodes, Saki finally spells out what we've known all along: she's attracted to Yuuta.

- "That was such a horrible day." Yeah, we know Saki. Catching another woman seemingly fooling around with the object of your affection can ruin your day.

- Middle schooler Saki looks very lowkey compared to her present day self. She did have a glow up when she got to high school.

- It can't be an anime without a beach episode. Though this one is an after school pool party.

- "I'm not really that good at dealing with friends. I'm always bad at reading the room." She Just Like Me Fr. Just because Saki has the external appearance of a gyaru, doesn't mean she's a social butterfly. And I find that an interesting combination: the person who at first glance seems like the "it girl" is actually a wallflower.

- Shame we couldn't get to experience the pool party outside of Saki's monologue. πŸ˜” I suppose the creative team behind the show wanted to do something different from your typical anime beach episode.

- Yuuta as a stagehand... but in a pool... hmm. Can't blame him saying that he'll feel embarrassed with Saki's description with him being a stagehand on water.

- What's better than Saki with a ponytail? Ponytail Saki in swimsuit. But just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we get to see Ponytail Saki wearing a swimsuit... and with a smile.

- The combo of "Ponytail Saki + swimsuit + great smile" was too much for Yuuta to resist. I can only imagine how Yuuta will reflect back to the moment he admits that he has romantic feelings for Saki....

Interviewer: "When did you first realized you loved her?"

Yuuta: "When I saw her in a swimsuit for the first time." πŸ™ƒ

- "...I've never fallen in love with anyone before now.... How did it sneak up on me like this. And why right now?" Love just happens, Yuuta.

- Of course, fireworks-kun has to delay the inevitable. Yuuta got onichan-zoned.

- "Meanwhile, here I was, trying to break all our rules." If only Yuuta knew....

- "The two of you are siblings, girl!" As a another stepsister once said, "But it's not like we're related by blood." πŸ™ƒ

- When Saki threw away the keys to her diary, I got reminded of that part in Titanic when Rose tosses her blue diamond necklace into the ocean.

- Yuuta finally get to know what was Saki's favorite thing. Turns out it was eating beef stew.

- With the assumption that Yuuta likes women with long hair, Saki cuts her hair short. Not sure how effective of a deterrent will that be since she still looks cute.

- By the end, Saki tried to sister-zone herself. How long will this state of having romantic feelings buried last?

Sometimes, you just need a heart-to-heart, wholesome, genuine beach episode. No over the top fan service. Just two siblings that are finally figuring out these feelings they're harboring for each other.

Each passing episode this series becomes not just one of my favorites of the season, but dare I say, of the year.

P.S. Do I have to admit though, the whole cutting her hair thing felt way too forced for the sake of the stupid cutting hair=character development troupe.

Ah yea das possible too. Heck, this anime is heavy with symbolism ngl

She wanted to throw it into the river, but she didn't. Look at the end of the episode.
Throwing it into the sea was symbolic, because in the end the key was at the bottom of the aquarium.

best episode so far, A FUCKING PEAK FICTION.

starting from Saki who saw the opportunity to go to the swimming pool again after all this time, little Saki is adorable, unfortunately her cute smile is no longer the same as before.

Saki sees Yuuta who doesn't try to stand out but he always makes sure others have fun, and that's what makes Saki like about Yuuta, after a long time then finally Yuuta realizes that he likes Saki, but it all goes not well ...

Yuuta almost wanted to confess his feelings but as usual the fireworks said nope, Saki also got the chance to express what she wanted to say once, and finally Saki started calling Yuuta Nii-san.

Saki wanted to close all her feelings to Yuuta which she wrote in her diary, Saki cut her long hair short to look like she used to be very cute as a child, but behind her cutting her hair short there must be a meaning, namely: letting go of the past: cutting one's hair can be a way to transform oneself, reject fear, and embrace change.

Saki hugging little Saki really makes this heart melt, seeing little Saki smile makes me happy and sad at the same time. Saki threw away the key where she kept her diary, she threw the written feelings into the sea, but it seems that the written feelings will be seen again someday, but starting from now Saki will keep all those feelings in her heart forever.

Shout out to the director who has adapted this LN into an anime that is worth watching. I repeat once again this is one of the best episodes in this season and even year, I like the serious type of anime and the vibe man I love this so much, and I believe this anime is underrated.

The trip to the pool, after some egging from Yuta, Saki caves in after begrudgingly have an emotional battle against her own self, with Yomiuri presenting her biggest challenge if Yuta one day learns of her affection towards him. And even so, Saki's always been about her family and work, work, work, forgetting the fun that she once had.

Even as a child, the memories of Saki being with her mother are so livid as a girl who has fun either by going to the pool or the zoo, now it's different with Yuta around, and at least she can find solace around him being the one who's always at the center, and find the lost element of fun that she had once again. And with the little bit of semblance, Yuta uttuers that he actually likes Saki. Switch the POV over to Yuta, and his view of romance, while definitely moulded by the failure of his family's marriage, he also begins seeing Saki as more than just a stepsister.

Saki praising Yuta all the more only solidifies how much she sees him the same way she does, though she was THIS close to a confession, but decided to hold back not just as stepsiblings, but even more for their newfound family's happiness. And of course, Saki deciding to cut her hair for character growth, it's the most clichéd thing ever, but her truly wanting to progress her relationship with him through the daily entries of her diary, she has truly come a long way.

Honestly, I applaud Saki for making her stance, but how much of the relationship between her and Yuta will be affected, only time will tell.

Can u explain this scene when Saki’s POV show when she is still a child she have ever met yuuta at the beach? So they know each other before?

Episode of the week for me! They've delivered this episode extremely good! All the issues that the audience wanted to see have been address and the thing why Ayase now calls him nii-san just hits the emotional part 🫠
I fokin need episode 10 ASAP!
Badly waiting what will Asamura do now when he himself now starts to realize his true feelings
cause I think he does not want also to progress Ayase calling him nii-san.

Being and adolescent is so complicated, and I think is double in Japan and there is a cultural mandate to hide your feeling in favor of the good of the family or the community. Both protagonists have to select between their feelings and their instated role. And your know... that's hard. In a Western culture you will get a rebel adolescent, but in Japan Culture, you get just represed feelings.

I feel that this a really plausible outcome of this situation. At the end both decided to act their role than to upset the newly founded family.

this ep was waaay too intense, considering the previous episodes. I watched it with expectations like in the previous episodes, like casual and borderline boring, since the diary one felt kinda passive and had started to become stale. This episode had too much happening, from the boy's feelings starting to surface (I had started to feel he was another one of those dense mcs), a firework for confession environment to her calling him a big bro that exact same time, next we see the girl he (most probably) had feelings for as a kid was actually her, and she unknowingly cut her hair to make it look like her kid self, and lastly ending the diary arc (most probably) with her locking it and throwing the key away. Since it isn't a comedy, fantasy, adventure, isekai, horror, etc, I believe there is no way someone will force their way to the diary, even though it is completely possible and feels like she wants it to happen... I mean if there is some locked thing with missing key, which you can force your way to, who wouldn't?

The ep was wayyy above the expectations I had of it, influenced by the casual episodes earlier with a slow romantic development.
A good one this time

If I speculate, now it will be the boy's turn to tackle his emotions, just like the girl was doing the entire time till now.

Well it was one of the best episodes in this bad anime ;d

Sudden fireworks when it often is a moment for lowers if a male and female are together at that time, but then she calls him Onisan :D and doing that even when she doesn't mean it, but only because he didn't manage to speak first because of fireworks :D That was good double plot twist ;d

Is she really Japanese? she litters the environment with that key and not sure what happened with that diary? you can always break the lock if she left it at home, but then firstly she threw away the key to river on bridge, then she is shown doing it again at sea when the key changes to diary? was that second part only like a "vision" or she really threw diary to sea? why not use trash on the streets?:D

and most important thing.. so they met at the sea when were kids and he saw her photo now.. he didn't recognize her and she also doesn't notice still?...
another thing is that their parents met at the same time then when they were playing together.. so they waited like 6-8 years to get together after meeting once? I wanna know what was the story of their parents getting together? because it makes zero sense now.. the story is just bad...

Another really good episode, the obligatory 'pool/beach' episode sure...but its done in a way that makes the fanservice a background feature of the episode instead of the forefront as I would expect from a show in this genre...either way I really enjoy how this show is developing.

Given the two fake outs and the final scene, I'm guessing the key is just in the bottom of the fish tank and the second throw she did was merely a metaphor.

i feel like this episode serves as Saki's resolutions as "sister" because
hence why she cut her hair short as the "resolutions" (Asian meaning is throwing your bad luck away)

This covers 2 side, between Yuta and Saki side and the tension between them is high. im currently picking up the novel again because of this episode (i read many other things as well lol)

I know that a slow burn drama like this wasn't for everyone, more so to the people that likes anime. Although i feel like it will serve better as drama, but i am grateful that i am able to watch this because i love how the author and the director able to be on the same page telling both sides, between Yuta and Saki.

Nice, they reused scenes and slapped a vintage film filter on it. How are people calling this cinematic?

So the parents knew each other since Saki and Yuta were kids?

I thought think he fell in love with her because she was in a swimsuit, but moreso because she was actually smiling for once. Like laughing with a big smile.

When is Yuta going to stop bringing his bike everywhere? He said he would stop in the previous episode lmao. He almost confessed and she brother zoned him. I'm sure he'll confess in the next episode.

Usually when girls do something drastic with their hair, they're going through it (crisis), they lost their minds, are trying to get someone's attention, or moving on. (I'm a girl who's done drastic things with my hair). Maybe she also wanted to seem less mature with a shorter haircut, since long hair is seen as mature or grown up. That way she could play the role of being the younger sister because then we proceed to see a baby picture of her with short hair.

Also, wouldn't it have been better to throw away or burn the diary instead of the keep? I'm also confused because she was throwing the key away from the bridge but it ended with her throwing the key into the ocean. Another thing, Saki's mom previously said Saki hated going to the pool. But then at the pool Saki told Yuta she loved going to the pool as a kid? Huh?

This is beautiful. There's no words to describe it, just beautiful.

This is obviously not your average wincest anime... the characters realized their own feelings, but they're now in a situation where those feelings may destroy what they build until now.

It feels so real.

Saki change her visual to be like her older self, it's like she fully committed to make that little girl have a real family again. Man, that's beautiful.

I don't care how it ends, they can or not be together, but I think the anime conveys its message in such a beautiful manner, that you can't help but feel sorrowful for them, but also... some kind of happiness too.

They're together after all, no matter what.

They may confess later on, but that won't change a thing.

Not a manga reader, but I figure this is what's going to happen next.

He's going to start dating bookstore girl so he can move in another direction. Bookstore girl unleashes her bookstore charms and nature takes its course. Nine months later, the baby is born.

Saki converts to Catholicism and enters a convent. But there aren't many convents in Japan, so she will have to move far away.

It's a happy ending for both of them. You are laughing at me right now, but when I am proven right, I will be vindicated.

End of story. 10/10

This episode felt very tragic. Definitely the most heartfelt so far, it was pretty painful to see how the circumstances forced her to stop persuing any further actions that would go in an romantic direction.
But in her mind it's probably way to late to erase any of these emotions she developed for his stepbrother. Constantly denying any emotions will be agonising for her.
Especially because he starts feeling a similiar way. Living under the same roof complicates things even more.

It's not really a fun watch, but an intriguing one.

Extremely slow burn show but really worth the watch so far. So both of them finally realized their feelings and Saki takes drastic measures to keep her distance. Adressing him as brother, cutting her hair because she assumed that he liked long hair and tossing the key to her diary into her aquarium. It's... as others have said certainly not final or conclusive and she mentions that if he'd make a move she's sure that she would crumble. It's easy being brutally honest when you're not afraid of the consequences but that ship has sailed for both of them and since she can't be honest she decides to put up a front or her walls but this time also towards him. We'll see how long this lasts. Both of them are way to level headed and clear thinking for their age but whatever.
