So many stupid things happened in that episode.
The price of the carbuncle gem was bloody stupid. It makes no sense at all that one creature is worth several countries in gold.
He gets everything by sheer luck and coincidence.
This is the perfect example of a Gary Sue.

Myeah.
I love ecchi, i love fanservice. But this episode was plain and badly written.

It goes from 0 to 100 in a few seconds.

"let's randomly introduce a treasure trove with only top tier equipment for the mc"
"Lets also give him a 100 skills in the spam of 60 seconds, that he might literally pull them out of his ass once, as a deus ex machina moment "

I really don't see the point of this show.

Slime had a great first episode where he goes from a slow moving slime that cant see to a power monster able to defend a small village and from there onwards, build an empire"

"So i'm a spider so what" she had to struggle with what skills she had every boss fight and we could see how she would consider using her current skills to overcome each challenge.

From the plot of this up to that point, I thought he was going to MONCH that dryad, but instead, surprise segs lol.
Surely a surprise, but a welcomed one.

Though I didn't expect it to go hentai at the end haha. Based.

Now I expect him being able to acquire skills by smashing too and not just eating.
Also harem preggo plz or no balls. Seriously lol

Anyway, the pet peeve of mine about mc having lost an arm didn't last long though I expected him to regenerate it with an acquired skill.
Also I expected him to eat the great mage's corpse to acquire his skills, sad it didn't happen. His ogre stomach plus toxin resistance surely would've managed it no problem.

@FullyCharged A character banging lots of powerful girls to acquire skills seems like a premise that could work in the right hands

@Treyv0n Manga had a detail that was interesting for part of how he survived fighting the Red Bear: an ability called Stench they may have noted briefly or skimmed over from a monster. Bear spit him out at one point, though the fight is still off screen after a point

@Ayuchiini Yeah, I feel like the amount of skills, even just where I am in the manga (at least 8+ chapters behind), would be around 100+, if not more.

The challenge is there, though yeah, it gets to a point that the challenge doesn't ever feel like it's going to be that dangerous. There's a framing as if it is, but he already has some trump card he uses in the fight, etc.

Lmfao I expected something similar to happen, but things accelerated quite fast. Not sure how to feel, I'm glad he isn't a pussy and actually did what's needed to be done, but also the entire episode was wasted on smeggs, presented in a manner vastly different from the previous episode's tone and frankly, it was quite boring and unimaginative.

A 6-pack ogre that Gobrou has become, thankfully both the goblins and humans take it in stride...except the women who are even more jealous of him being taken into his harem unconsciously. The men also suffer since Gobrou is already on the verge of being overpowered when training with him, nothing goes well with him. And when a Carbuncle comes being being in aid from the goblins, with Returner having to plead their help to secure her master's treasury instead of humans which her master Velvet hates, Gobrou takes matters into his own hands to try and negotiate, and it turned out to be right since humans want the weapons for gain.

Gobrou is clearly there for patience, but the adventurers who don't care reap their karma, he earned all of it to progress his skills further, plus a working arm, finally. With all the treasure given out to all the goblins along with a party, and as the days progress, more monsters and creatures encountered, even a dryad in normal heat, things are progressing rather quick...except his relationship with Gobmi and the red-haired girl, plus the women as well. A virgin in his past life, Gobrou really is in a position to just let go and let will lols.

Gobrou...try surviving out of a harem next lols.

i was actually quite enjoying the world building and character development of Rou, but after this episode with a HUGE focus on female envy i cant stomach to watch any longer of this.

Its one thing to have said thing, its another to repeat the same troupe about 10 times in a 20 minute span. Holy hell... what a waste of time that was.

@xion03 You probably know more since it seems you are familiar with the source material, but from my perspective, I did see that he gained abilities from the adventurers, so you may interpret that he ate them. However, he did not technically eat the dryad in the canonical sense, yet he still gained an ability. He also seems to gain abilities in the last scene of the episode. Therefore, I considered the possibility that maybe he does not need to eat something to gain their abilities, but perhaps there are certain conditions. There is also the fact that he mentions that he has to eat a particular monster several times to gain all the abilities of said monster until he no longer gains abilities by eating that monster. Anyway, subsequent episodes may clear all this up, I suppose.

As for whether he is good or bad, something to think about is that, having the power he had, if he was good, he would have returned the human girls, but he did not (at least not until they had enough Stockholm Syndrome). He seems to have some limits on what he is willing to do (i.e. not allowing the other goblins to abuse the human girls, etc), but I never expected the MC to have morals.

The opening suggest he will encounter other groups and/or species, and that is what I am waiting to see. The current antics can be entertaining, but it would get boring if that is all there is to this story. Putting aside the fact that goblins seems to grow fast, I was assuming that the production is going through this initial part of the story very fast to get to the meat of the story that would come later.

As for the writing that some people are complaining about, I never had any high expectations for this show. I only came to see some dude that does not give a sh*t wreck sh*t up. If the story delivers on this, then the story did the job. If there is more than that, then that is a bonus. For instance, some people criticize Slime because it became slower in Season 2, but I enjoy the politics in it, etc. I have heard people compare Re:Monster to Slime, and since Slime is one of the anime I enjoy the most (the anime I wanted to see the most this season), I was intrigued, and I want to see where this story will lead.

@djhz2001 yeh theyre going at breakneck speed, it makes it a lot harder to realize what's going on without knowing the source material.

The comparison to the slime isekai is pretty terrible, honestly. Rimuru has always been lawful good. Basically a good person that wants the best for everyone, enemies included.

This one just wants to amass power, regardless of the consequences. So he'd be neutral evil on that scale.

Btw, he ate bodily fluids 😄

This episode was a train wreck.

Wasn’t very promising in the beginning and got my attention because I assumed it would be “different” but we could see the harem hints from episode 2.

Awful pacing.
Adventurers + Dungeons to Gaining skills for 2 minutes and an Orgy after giving the Dryad a time of her life.

MAL needs to add the harem tag.

That was explained when he first talked to them and they told him they have nowhere to go, there was nowhere to return them to. The human girls basically became part of the clan and he protected them from the other males forcing themselves on them (which is far different than them offering themselves willingly to him because they desired it, which some people in the comments don't seem to realize).
