Okay first half, everyone expecting Kita to go to France, Kita confused what's going on with her body and being told by Gold Ship that she has reached her peak. But wait... they decided to skip Dia's whole Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe stuff? We go from Dia going to France waiting for Kita, but Kita decides to skip out and train, we see the news headline of Dia getting 15th in France and at the end Dia is already back in Japan... I wonder if we'll get a flash back or something next episode that at least covers part of it? Maybe not. As for the race we get this episode, this time is Fall Tenno Sho, bad weather giving her a bad start, lots of slipping but she still won the race and really wanted that win, though seems like the reality was setting in for her that she has reached her peak at the end of the race. Pretty good episode overall, 2 more episodes to go before the season ends. https://twitter.com/uma_musu_anime/status/1734960137230832057 |

Diamond left but she made important memories this season. The race and competition was intense, even under some bad weather. Kitsan had the must-win look on her face this whole time as usual. The crowd got so hyped this episode really made this one important. |

Very good race. Probably my favorite so far. The weather conditions were really difficult this time, which made it even more intense than usual. Congratulations, Kitasan! |

Poor Kitasan. Being left behind. Diamond departs for France in preparation for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Kitasan, who went to see her off, seems a bit absent-minded. The reason is his own bewilderment – since the Takarazuka Kinen, his body hasn't been moving as he envisions. Despite reassuring himself that everything is fine, Kitasan continues his training with a sense of uncertainty. I totally get how Kitasan must've felt in that airport scene. She gave it her all but fell short – it's a real downer. And isn't it just adorable seeing that Diamond plushie in her bed? Kitasan really hit her peak, but they say once you're at the top, it's all downhill. Shoutout to the folks running the shops – they're the true MVPs this season. Now Kitasan's shifting gears, setting her sights on the Fall Tenno Sho instead of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. And speaking of the latter, Diamond landed in 15th place? What's up with that? But hey, Kitasan earned that win after so much hard work, even with a late start. It's a victory, but you can see it's taking a toll on her body. Six G-1 wins are impressive, but it looks like her body is beginning to pay the price. |

Well looks like Kita san has reached her top but she can still win races but the question is for how long. Satano crown didn't make it easy for her tho. Anyway the big question is will Cheval be able to win a race before the anime ends seeing how hard she is trying. |

Screw it! I will make the joke. Kitasan Black is past peak fiction now. And I'm very sad about it. Gold Ship lying down on the grass slope like a horse, intensely. Now I want to run in a very muddy track. |

Even if she won Kitasan looks completely exhausted and out of breath - and this didn't happen at her record 3200 run, 1,6 times more distant race in which she scored a world record which stands by current day and breaking record of Deep Impact - horse with 7(!) G1 wins and father of absolutely disgusting number of great horses, a lot of them even seen in this season - Satono Diamond, Marialite (River Lite), Vivlos, Dee Majesty(1st Satono Diamond crown loss winner), Makahiki (2nd Satono Diamond crown loss winner), etc, etc, etc. |

So, how long in-universe has passed since the start of this season? Cos in 11 episodes, we've gone from Kitasan having to work her way to her peak, to reaching it and then immediately falling beneath it. It feels like no other horse girl in this series has fallen down as quickly as we're being told Kitasan is, a feeling that's exacerbated by how bad this series is at conveying the passage of time in general. |

@Atavistic Heh? She won 6 G1 races while running like 15 times. Count number of races Teio ran in S2, or be in McQueen. Every season covers career of some IRL horse, usually it's 3-4 years. Just that Kitasan never got seriously injured and was really active so she ran much more than girls in prior seasons but timespan is roughly the same. Current IRL age of Kitasan would be elder 5 years old which indeed is past horse peak, usual peak in running ability is 4 years. |

Knowing when you're past your peak performance is something that everyone, regardless of what sport you compete in, will have to accept sooner or later. Seeing Kitasan Black come to terms with not being able to get to the very top performance again must've been tough on her, but it ultimately made her decide to not go to France after all. To add to that sadness, Satono Diamond came in a lowly 15th place in her race in France, which I assume would easily knock a huge amount of confidence out of anyone. With a new goal in mind, Kitasan Black trained hard for the Fall Tennoushou, where the weather gods certainly left the track in a condition that would make it into a mud bath for all of the horse girls, with Kitasan Black getting caught out right at the beginning of the race due to how muddy the conditions were. Still, the way she powered through and held on to win her 6th G1 race, just ahead of Satono Crown, was incredible. Having said that, seeing her collapse onto her knees, struggling to catch her breath, shows how much harder she had to work to win this race compared to her previous victories. I can only hope that she still has enough strength left to win another race, although she's going to need a long break after this performance. Great episode overall, where the close racing between Kitasan Black and Satono Crown made for an exciting battle. The production quality of the race itself was great, especially in showcasing how difficult the muddy conditions were for the horse girls. |

Bakushin only got like, half a minute of screentime this whole season, but I love it when she appears.
And yeah, Dia got absolutely destroyed at Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe coming at 15th place (I already spoiled myself the whole season by looking up Kita and Dia's careers). I wanted more coverage of that, but I guess they can't really do much with foreign races because of rights and stuff.
Got chills during the race again. I guess Kita being so out of breath after the race signifies that she's past her prime now. And that look on Dia's face...
The ED has been so out of place the past couple episodes lol. Good episode!
Btw gigantic plushies of Kita and Dia were announced yesterday and they became a big meme in Japan lmao. There is so much fanart. Would buy if I could.

At first I was kinda disappointed that we were seeing Kitasan mope around again, but the reveal that Kitasan is past her prime made things really interesting, I don’t think they’ve explored that aspect of horse racing until now and it’s pretty damn sad to see it happen to Kitasan, especially when you consider her dream of being like her dad, must’ve been soul crushing. Thankfully tho, Kitasan’s local supporters helped inspire her to race again, although at the same time backing out of the overseas race, which imo was the better choice. And as it turns out Satono Diamond ended up losing her race pretty bad overseas at 15th place, which is upsetting but a realistic outcome (and I’m assuming it’s based on real life even lol), but here in good ol Japan we got to witness a muddy and rainy race which ended up being one of my favorite races of the season, and one I actually really wanted Kitasan to win due to the new info about what’s been going on with her, sorry Satono Crown lol. And after hell of a fight for first place, Kitasan won and the crown went wild, I even felt myself getting kinda emotional, but of course her win even further revealed that she can’t race like she used to, very bittersweet but still a great race. |

Fun fact: this Tenno Sho Autumn win for Kitasan is the slowest ever till now(while his great son Equniox breaks the record this year) As a total Arc loss is common for JP(actually after Orferve JP horses never reach top 5 on Arc until Through Seven Seas this year) skipping it has no problem, but I guess a muddy domestic win may have relation to Arc: probably the most important reason of why JP never won Arc is that the EU turf like Arc are often muddy while JP racecourses are the driest ones in the world, this fact leads to the difference of JP and EU racehorses: dry turf needs more speed while body power is more important on muddy turf, therefore JP raceshorses are unfit on Arc and foreign raceshorses seldom come to Japan Cup in recent years ![]() PS: The store name on the pic is a reference on Kitasan's IRL jockey Yutaka Take |

Satono Diamond departing for France for the Prix de i'Arc de Triomphe, and Kitasan just missed the opportunity with the awful loss, that with her best friend overseas, she feels slightly off, and even worse when she does her practices. It's understandable from her standpoint that she feels funny, and nothing says more than Gold Ship going through the same episode before, that Kitasan may be already past her prime. Sure, Kitasan still can run, but regarding the Prix de i'Arc de Triomphe, it's a tall order for someone who feels like she's got nothing else to offer. The shopkeepers cheering her on with a banner, Kitasan decides to keep going, which Trainer recommends the Fall Senior Triple Crown, starting with the Fall Tennoushou, putting an end to her trip to France and focusing all-in on the local races. Soon enough, it's the Fall Tennoushou in heavy rain and muddy turf, though this will change the tide for just about anyone...and indeed, Kitasan fell behind from a late start, but pushes through her limits by running in the muddy terrain, though a strong fight by Satono Crown could not stop Kitasan from winning the typhoon-laden racecourse, her 6th consecutive win...that this race may very well spell the end of her perfect run hitting her peak. Limits reached, so what will be Kitasan's decision going forward? |

And yeah, it's addictive indeed, here are my numbers (started 2 months ago right when episode 2 of season 2 aired, this might not seem like too much, but I read through all the stories and events and training one character can take me days): |

I adore Uma Musume, I adore Kita and this season, but I think the plot is really weak in comparation of the previous seasons, I've been thinking about that for a while now, but this episode confirmed it. In season 1 we had Spe doing her best to win against her many rivals, it was simple but effective for a 1st plot, she was a new student and managed to become the 1#. In season 2 we had Teio, a girl we new from s1, lose her dream and fall into a heavy depression because of an injury, she lost her ego and motivation but I think the way they handled her redemption was amazing, the way McQueen and Twin helped her realize it wasn't over, giving her beautiful reasons to keep running, showing us that it wasn't just about winning, but about the act of running itself, it was great. In this season we have Kita in what seems to be an endless loop, she gets sad because she loses, but then she gets happy because the people from town cheers for her, we have seen this loop for at least 3 times now, and it is really lame, specially considering that was the exact same plot for Narita in Road to the Top, but there it was handled way better and since that anime is short we didn't had to see the same stuff over and over again. Sometimes she gets to talk with Nice and she also helps to cheer her up, but I still don't really understand why Nice has been a more important character than Teio since Kita joined Spica just to train with her (I love Nice Nature tho) I thought her main goal was to surpass Teio, but I feel like that wasn't really important for her after all, there is also her rivalry with Dia but that kinda just ended, and even tho she was other rivals like Crown and Cheval I never feelt like they are even that important for her, like if she didn't even care about them, Crown won the race in the last episode but in this one Kita was never like "I'll race against crown again, I must win this time to prove I'm better!", she was more like "Oh, Crown is here again, ok", she only cared about not lossing her "peak" and that can lead to an interesting plot but as I was saying, I feel like she underestimates anyone who is not Dia or herself, not even Teio was like that. I really hope this gets better since there are only 2 episodes left 💔 Anyways, this episode made me kinda sad because we had the oportunity to see Bakushin train with Kita (something they kinda hypped up in the 1st anniversary animation), but again nothing happened, lame. That would be really nice since Sakura Bakushin O was one of the grandfathers of Kitasan Black, just like Mejiro McQueen was one of the grandfathers of Gold Ship (yeah, kinda weird how Gold Ship really is a crazy af horse when it has Mejiro blood lmao), in case someone is reading this long ass comment and didn't knew that lol Btw Satono Crown has been the best character this season, fight me. |

@StallionXD Kitasan's main goal was never about surpassing Teio and at this point, Kitasan's race record has already surpassed Teio with 6 G1 wins XD. Initially she wanted to be like Teio, including copying her stylish running style which focuses on explosive sprint at the final stretch. But she lacks the explosiveness that Teio and Duramente has to be able to run like that. So you see her consulting Nature sensei to realize what is her edge in racing and moving away from Teio to focus on herself. She is pretty average in every aspect except her durability so she just trains a lot. Next she explores on why she wanted to be like Teio. Ever since young, she is fascinated by her dad's performance on stage and how it made the audiences smile. Becoming like Teio is the closest to her original dream, which is to become a star and make her audiences smile (Very boring dream sounds like every idol ever). The town people will always be there to support her, no matter if she wins or loses. She is the star of the town. I don't think Kitasan underestimates anyone as she gives her best in every race. She is also the top dog and favored to win almost every race in later half. If anything, Crown and Cheval are the ones who need to prove they can win but they are not the main character so not much focus on them. |

@Aeru47 I get the "being like Teio" plot, and I do know she has surpassed her at this point lol, but that's the problem, since she completed that goal so soon, what do we have left? Kita won against Dia but it was never her top priority, now she wanted to go to France but that got quickly scraped, she decided on her new goal of winning the Fall Triple Crown like "I wanna keep running, and trainer said to do this, so might as well" lol, this feel so unfocused, Kita doesn't have one true goal unlike the protagonists from previous seasons, including RttT. And I still think she underestimates them because every time she loses a race she is out of focus, thinking about Dia or about herself instead of focusing in the race she is on, I think it was badly handled when Crown won in the last episode because they make it seem like she didn't won because she ran better than Kita, she won because Kita was "feeling weird", lame, these are real horses, irl Crown won because it was the better horse, not because irl Kita was having an existencial crisis in the middle of the race lol I understand they do this stuff because of the plot, the drama they need, but for people that watch this and has 0 knowledge about the real horses (I've seen a lot of people watching this 3rd season that still have no idea all of these horses and races actually exist/existed), they may think just that, "oh, Crown only won because Kita was feeling bad, so her victory doesn't matter". In the end nothing of that changes the fact that we are trapped in a loop: kita wins, kita loses, she is sad, the town people cheer her up, repeat. I really hope that doesn't happen again in the next episode, she won this race but it was bittersweet, focus on fixing that by herself, by her own will to get better, don't give us the banana seller having to cheer her up again lmao sry if my english is bad btw |

@StallionXD This season touches the topic of peak athleticism and what happens next. Other seasons just stopped at their peak. Like the trainer suggested, there are multiple outcomes: some unable to run anymore, some see a gradual decline in their ability and some becomes competitive like they were reborn but... (short lived). Felt like he meant that but didn't continue saying and this sentence feels like foreshadowing the fate of 3 different uma musumes. Kitasan belongs to those who see a gradual decline in their ability and her goal is to bring smile to her audiences with the remaining time she has left before her abilities dip too much. She tries her best to prevent the decline like forcing herself to eat more when she has no appetite and training hard but it is inevitable. She doesn't know if she has any fans in France, but the local people will be able to see her run if she registers for races locally. Fall Triple Crown is suggested by the trainer but winning those are just the side goal. Other 2 outcomes probably Dia and Cheval XD. As for the race itself, they just followed what happened in real life. Explanation given was also very bogus for why Kitasan wasn't performing. There is no doubt Crown was the better horse for that race where she won but Crown lost to Kitasan a number of times too. |

@tiXhl I can't see the numbers in the screenshot, can you post it again with the numbers too? And yeah, it's addictive indeed, here are my numbers (started 2 months ago right when episode 2 of season 2 aired, this might not seem like too much, but I read through all the stories and events and training one character can take me days):

@Embient updated the picture in the original post. Here's my current team: Struggling to improve my sprint and dirt sections at the moment. Haru Urara is causing me nightmares all the time XD. Pulling for new Uma Musume is tempting, but as soon as you have 3 for every type of race pulling and levelling support cards is crucial. @all sorry for derailing a bit |

I feel like there's been a lot of foreshadowing of what's to come in the next episode. Early in the season, when Gold Ship announced her "last run", Kitasan wondered out loud what a last run would feel like, but Dia reassured her that they didn't have to think about that "yet". Later, Kita asked Dia about a girl who appeared to be quitting the school, and Dia speculated that the girl had done all she could and was calling it quits. And in the OP of each episode, we briefly see Nice Nature glancing sadly at the hollow stump where she reassured Kitasan time and again, but this time, Kitasan is not there. All this makes me think that Kita will grapple with giving up racing altogether in the next episode, which will undoubtedly set the stage for whatever happens in the finale. Maybe her idol, Tokai Teio, will convince her to keep trying. Maybe she'll decide to keep racing for the sake of her fans. Maybe she'll try to cap her racing career by winning the fall triple crown (I think that was the race series they mentioned in this episode) and have a final showdown with Duramente. I'm excited to find out. I suppose I could look up Kitasan Black's real-world racing career if I wanted to guess what happens, but I'd rather see it play out in the anime. I liked this episode and I've enjoyed this season so far, even if it's not as well executed as the prior two, imo. |

Well fuck, is this it for Kitasan? Please tell me she's gonna get back up on her feat. It's hard seeing her like this. |

I was already surprised when they dealt with retirement for Golshi, but still didn't expect it would also be breached for Kita. Definitely not spoil yourself if you haven't yet! I will say they crammed a lot of history into this season, like almost an entire CinGray. I saw most execution issues in the first half accordingly. |

LOL @ Nature-san's expression. She's like, "FK... our difference is WAY too far..." (0 G1 vs 6 G1, LOL) . RIP Kitasan tho... she realized this is probably her last run. Since she won't be giving any sort of "Idol performance" (off-screen) after those races cause she's literally out of Stamina. |

What an episode. Honestly, I'm often happy with Uma Musume because the drama isn't always just light stuff that's just a field of personal obstacles, but even if they are they make them interesting enough. Often times they're actual physical limitations though that they might actually have to make a decision about or struggle through. |
